Vice President JD Vance has referred evidence gathered by Congress that Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison failed to act against mass welfare fraud in their state to the Justice Department for possible criminal investigate.

Vance announced the criminal referral in a social media post late Monday in which he raised concerns that Walz's administration also tried to retaliate against state workers who blew the whistle on the welfare fraud scams in Minnesota, estimated by the House Oversight Committee to have cost taxpayers more than $9 billion.

"I’ve referred these allegations to DOJ’s new Fraud Division for criminal investigation," Vance wrote on X. "Minnesota state officials are not above the law, and if they facilitated fraud, lied under oath about what they knew, or harassed and intimidated whistleblowers, they must face justice."

The vice president's action came hours after the Oversight Committee released a bombshell report concluding that Walz and Ellison knew about widespread taxpayer fraud in the state's welfare programs as early as spring 2019, but took no action and instead let the state retaliate against workers who tried to expose the abuses.

Committee Chairman James Comer told Just the News on Monday evening he believed lawmakers found evidence of criminality in the years-long cover-up of the fraud.

"I think that Governor Waltz and Attorney General Ellison should be held accountable. I think that they've violated the laws. I think they've, you know, violated the whistleblower protection laws," he said.

Walz and Ellison have denied wrongdoing even as the fraud allegations sunk Walz's re-election bid in 2026.

Comer said the DOJ could present the evidence his committee gathered to a grand jury. "I'm all for that," he said.

The House committee concluded that Democrats in the state turned a blind eye to the taxpayer losses because they feared "political retribution from the politically active Somali community," where much of the fraud was centered.

"Governor Walz and Attorney General Ellison knew about the fraud in federal programs administered by the State of Minnesota much earlier than they admitted," the committee wrote in its final report.

"Instead of trying to stop this widespread fraud, Governor Walz’s Administration retaliated against employees who tried to raise concerns, going to great lengths to keep them quiet, including intimidation through regular check-ins with high-level agency officials and threats of military surveillance," it added.

The report said the federal government has determined that at least $300 million was stolen by Feeding Our Future and its affiliated vendors and providers from the USDA's federal child nutrition programs and an estimated $9 billion has been lost to fraud from the high-risk Medicaid programs in Minnesota since 2018.

"The Committee has found that Minnesota lacked adequate oversight controls and procedures to verify that federal taxpayer dollars were being used appropriately and the Minnesota government could have stopped the flow of money to fraudsters at any time but chose not to for fear of political retribution from the politically active Somali community, which also wields power within social services provider networks," the committee wrote.

The report had several major conclusions, including that:

Minnesota state agencies had clear authority to suspend or stop payments to providers suspected of fraud without requiring independent direction from courts, law enforcement agencies, or the federal government but failed to act.

State officials continued directing taxpayer dollars to Feeding our Future and other high-risk entities despite identifying serious program deficiencies, enabling federal funds to flow to fraudsters.

Testimony and documents show that concerns about litigation and accusations of discrimination—not legal barriers or directives from law enforcement—were cited as reasons for continuing payments to suspected fraudsters.

The Walz administration retaliated against state employees who raised concerns about fraud, while senior state officials prioritized managing political and media fallout over addressing known fraud vulnerabilities.

Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., is reviving an idea to end the current Senate parliamentarian’s blockade on the Save America Act election integrity law: enact a term limit for the position.

Blackburn told Just the News on Tuesday her legislation from a year ago to set term limits for the parliamentarian was gaining renewed steam as the GOP voter base stews over the chamber’s inability to pass President Donald Trump’s signature election law, imposing voter ID in citizenship checks.

“Now, when it comes to the parliamentarian, last year you had Senators Tuberville, Marshall, and I who filed a bill that called for term limits on the parliamentarian. And this is a discussion that has popped back up because of some of the decisions of the parliamentarian,” Blackburn told the Just the News, No Noise television show.

“I think it's appropriate to term limit the parliamentarian,” she added. “You know, you have different positions, different assigned, and different offices that are term limited, whether it's serving as on the Fed, or whether it's serving on certain commissions, or in certain appointments, and we think it's appropriate that the parliamentarian be someone that is term limited also.”

As Trump has pressed Senate Majority Leader John Thune to fire Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough, Blackburn said more senators have rallied around the idea of her legislation.

“I can assure you in the last few days this is something that we have heard a lot about,” she said. “People are beginning to say, you know, that idea that you had about term limiting the parliamentarian, that is a pretty good idea. So, we'll see what happens.”

MacDonough has been in Trump’s crosshairs since she ruled that the Save America Act was not covered by the Byrd Rule, which allows legislation to be included in a budget reconciliation package that can pass with a simple-majority vote and avoid the 60-vote filibuster threshold.

Trump on Monday called on Thune to fire MacDonough.

“Senate Majority Leader John Thune should immediately fire the parliamentarian, who treats Republicans and everything they stand for horribly!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

MacDonough is no stranger to political controversy, since becoming the parliamentarian in 2012, against both Republican and Democrat efforts to avoid the filibuster rule. She fell out of favor, for instance, with President Joe Biden by refusing to allow the Byrd Rule when Democrats tried to provide mass amnesty to illegal aliens.

Federal case against suspect in killing of Zarutska delayed

The man accused of killing Iryna Zarutska on a Charlotte light rail train was ruled incompetent to stand trial by a federal judge on Tuesday.

The judge said Decarlos Brown was incompetent to stand trial. Brown will go to a 4-month treatment program to restore his mental capacity to stand trial, according to the court order.

Brown had several outbursts during the hearing, including telling the judge he had a letter for him from his mom.

Prosecutors said they were confident they could restore his mental capacity in a few months with forced medication.

“This was not unexpected. We have confidence that his capacity will be restored so he can stand trial for what he did to Iryna," Zarutska’s family lawyer said.

Lawyers for Brown said in April that he was incompetent and could not go to trial.

A report from Brown’s time in Central Regional Hospital said the suspect was “incapable of proceeding” in his criminal trial, according to a motion filed by Brown’s lawyer in Mecklenburg County Court in April.

The charges in Mecklenburg County are separate from the federal case that the judge ruled on Tuesday.

The defense for Brown argues that a hearing on whether he is competent cannot go forward while Brown is still in federal custody. Any hope the court would have to “restore capacity” and make Brown fit to stand trial could not move forward while Brown is still in federal custody, lawyers said.

Brown is charged with murder in state court and faces a federal charge of causing death on a mass transportation system. The state and federal cases are running in parallel.

Zarutska was fatally stabbed on Aug. 22 on the CATS light rail. The stabbing of the 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee was caught on video. The case attracted national and international attention.

President Donald Trump even brought up the case in his State of the Union address earlier this year, pointing to Zarutska’s mother sitting in the audience.

Lauren Newton, attorney for the Zarutska family, says there are questions as to whether anything will be done to restore his capacity so the case can move forward.

In April, Spectrum News 1 spoke with Decarlos Brown’s sister, Tracey Brown, who said she was not surprised by the motion.

She said she had known about his struggles for years, and that she was sad and wished the loss of life didn’t have to happen for his condition to be taken seriously.

“I just hope both families get justice,” Brown said. “I hope that this situation opened up a lot of people’s eyes on mental health. I hope the state will start taking mental health seriously, so this won’t happen again.”

Head of Russian missile forces killed by BMW car bomb

A car bomb killed a senior Russian defense official outside Moscow early Tuesday, June 9. Around 5:30 a.m., a BMW X3 exploded near Koldunova Street in Balashikha’s Aviatorov neighborhood as the driver pulled out of a parking space. Bystanders reached the driver while he was still alive, but he died at the scene.

The Russian federal Investigative Committee and the prosecutor’s office for the Moscow region confirmed an explosion had taken place in Balashikha but did not name the victim. The Investigative Committee said a criminal case had been opened but did not disclose the charge.

Several Telegram channels reported that the victim was Damir Davydov, head of the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate (GRAU) of Russia’s Defense Ministry. The Russian Telegram channel VChK-OGPU, Ukrainian Defense Ministry adviser Serhiy Sternenko, and the Ukrainian outlet Insider UA all reported the same name. A source cited by the independent Russian outlet Astra also confirmed Davydov’s death, saying an improvised explosive device had been placed under the vehicle. The Russian business daily Kommersant reported that the device had the explosive force of up to 500 grams of TNT.

Davydov was listed in the Myrotvorets database. According to Ukrainian sources, Davydov was 57 and grew up in the closed city of Penza-19, also known as Zarechny. His father, Rafail Davydov, worked at the Start production association, which manufactured nuclear missiles. Shot, a Russian Telegram channel with ties to law enforcement, put his age at 62.

A December 2009 article in the Defense Ministry newspaper Krasnaya Zvezda identified Davydov as commander of the Central Test Technical Bureau attached to the 51st Arsenal of the Defense Ministry’s Main Missile and Artillery Directorate, with the rank of colonel. He appeared again in a 2019 article, which placed him in a Russian Defense Ministry delegation to Kazakhstan — by then serving as head of a GRAU directorate.

By the evening of June 9, neither Russian law enforcement nor state media had officially named the victim. The independent Russian investigative outlet Agentstvo noted that in earlier cases involving senior military figures, the victims had been publicly named the same day.

The Aviatorov neighborhood, where the explosion occurred, was originally built as a residential district for military retirees, Agentstvo reported. In April 2025, Lieutenant General Yaroslav Moskalik, deputy head of the Main Operations Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces General Staff, was killed when a bomb destroyed his car in the same neighborhood. The Investigative Committee opened a terrorism case, alleging that the attack was carried out on the orders of Ukraine’s Security Service, and arrested the alleged perpetrator, Ignat Kuzin. In November 2025, Kuzin was sentenced to life in prison.

What looks as if it is going to swallow the great Pillars of Creation? The Eagle Nebula (M16) is not a bird, a plane, or Superman. M16 is actually a combination of several celestial objects. NGC 6611 is the young star cluster that appears to peak out beneath the Eagle’s “wings”. The ultraviolet light from these stars ionizes the surrounding gas, creating the emission nebula IC 4703. The Stellar Spire is seen reaching towards the Pillars of Creation from the left. Both are structures of cold gas and dust that are optimal for star formation. Some astronomers previously thought the Pillars of Creation had been evaporated away by a supernova. Because M16 is 6,000 light years away, we would not be able to see the Pillars’ destruction for thousands more years. However, there is no conclusive evidence of the theorized supernova, so the Pillars of Creation will likely continue to create stars for millions of years.

A meteorite impact may have once rained gold on Western Australia – new study

We’re used to a lot of different natural things falling out of the sky. These can include snow, rain, and sometimes even frogs (yes, really). All of these relate to weather phenomena.

Far more exotic things fall from the sky that are not related to weather. Earth is pelted by about 14 tons of micrometeorites each day. And larger meteorite falls also happen daily, which are visible as fireballs that streak across the night sky.

When an asteroid collides with Earth, it can trigger even stranger debris. Tektites are glassy droplets that form by melting during a meteorite impact, and are then ejected hundreds to thousands of kilometres away from the impact site.

The Australasian tektite field that formed some 790,000 years ago from an unknown impact and might cover 10–30% of Earth’s surface is the most famous example.

In a new study published in the journal Meteoritics and Planetary Science, we describe the discovery of a previously unknown 4km-diameter meteorite impact crater in the Eastern Goldfields of Western Australia.

A gold band points the way

The impact site is near the town of Ora Banda (Spanish for “gold band”), a historic gold mining district about 50km north of Kalgoorlie.

For now we’ve named the site the “Ora Banda impact structure”, given its proximity to the historic mining district.

However, the region has a much longer history of First Nations culture, and we’re currently working with collaborators at the Goldfields Aboriginal Language Centre on establishing an Indigenous name for the site.

The impact site is interesting for a number of reasons. Ora Banda is one of the few impact craters on Earth whose target rocks – meaning, all rocks in the area affected by the impact – are ancient greenstones, which are metamorphosed volcanic rocks like basalt.

Greenstones are valuable to the economy of Australia because in some places they contain gold. The Ora Banda impact was accidentally discovered during exploration drilling for gold.

The ‘smoking gun’ evidence for impact

If you find a site you suspect might be an impact crater, the scientific process to confirm that’s indeed the case involves documenting what’s known as diagnostic evidence.

Diagnostic impact evidence – the “smoking gun” of an impact – is that which is found nowhere else. It can include either evidence of the space rock itself, or unique high-pressure shock wave damage in the target rocks.

The first evidence for impact we found at Ora Banda was shatter cones – distinctive conical features in rocks that record the passage of the shock wave. We found a few shatter cones in rubbly outcrops at the surface, and we also found some in the drill cores.

The indictment alleges that after the October 7, 2023 Hamas terrorist attack on Israel, these individuals - a group of college-aged adults - engaged in a coordinated campaign of violent, criminal acts seeking to pressure University of Michigan leaders and other businesses in the Eastern District of Michigan to cut off all ties with Israel.

The subjects allegedly vandalized the victims’ property, spray painted their homes with messages like “Intifada” and “Free Palestine,” left threatening notes on their doors, and even broke windows of the victims’ homes - throwing glass jars filled with chemicals while children slept inside.

They deliberately chose the one-year anniversary of Hamas’s attack to engage in some of their most visible criminal acts - including one subject who specifically targeted the Bloomfield Township Jewish Federation on October 7, 2024. On the same day, another subject - employed by the University - vandalized the University President’s home.

The alleged criminal targeting occurred for over a year - beginning approximately March 2024 and continuing until April 2025.

NASA Marches Toward Artemis III Mission in 2027, Names Crew Members

Taking another step toward one of the most complex human spaceflight missions in recent history, NASA on Tuesday provided new Artemis III details and announced the four prime crew members and a backup for the test flight.

The mission will undertake a series of challenging tests in Earth orbit in 2027, essential for Artemis IV, the first planned crewed mission to the lunar South Pole in 2028.

During Artemis III, the agency’s SLS (Space Launch System) rocket will launch the Orion spacecraft and its crew from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida to low Earth orbit.

After Orion systems checkouts, the spacecraft will, for the first time, demonstrate rendezvous and docking capabilities with test versions from one, or both, American commercial human landing systems in development by Blue Origin and SpaceX.

This highly choreographed mission includes a dramatic multi-launch campaign of the world’s most powerful rockets, testing integrated hardware between Orion and the landers, including system interfaces, software, propulsion, and communications.

Crew assignments are as follows:

NASA astronaut Randy Bresnik, commander

ESA (European Space Agency) astronaut Luca Parmitano, pilot

NASA astronaut Andre Douglas, mission specialist

NASA astronaut Frank Rubio, mission specialist

As part of Tuesday’s event, NASA astronaut Bob Hines was named as a backup crew member. The crew will begin training immediately on Orion spacecraft systems, as well as assist in the development and operations of the test versions of Blue Origin and SpaceX landers.

“Today we take another bold step in humanity’s return to the Moon, building on the extraordinary foundation laid by the Artemis II astronauts,” said NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman.

“Their achievements reignited global excitement for exploration, and now they pass the torch to the Artemis III team, Randy, Luca, Frank, and Andre. NASA has announced the crew for the Artemis III mission, which includes ESA astronaut Luca Parmitano as pilot.

ESA is also providing its third European Service Module for this crewed test flight in Earth orbit, which will be key for the mission’s objective to test rendezvous and docking capabilities ahead of future lunar landing missions.

NASA announced the crew of Artemis III mission which will include, NASA astronaut and commander Randy Bresnik, pilot Luca Parmitano of ESA, and NASA astronauts Frank Rubio and Andre Douglas as lander specialists.

NASA astronaut Bob Hines was also assigned as a backup crew member. The crew will now begin a rigorous training schedule to learn the Orion spacecraft systems, as well as the operations of the human landing systems, to prepare for an ambitious series of demonstrations ahead of a Moon landing mission.

Luca Parmitano is an ESA astronaut from Italy who has spent 366 days in space across two long-duration missions to the International Space Station, Volare and Beyond.

During these missions, he supported hundreds of experiments, performed six spacewalks totalling more than 30 hours and became commander of the Station.

Since returning to Earth, he has served as ESA’s liaison at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, acting as CAPCOM and training ESA astronauts for spacewalks and robotic operations.

Last year, Luca participated in NASA’s Underway Recovery Test 12 off the coast of California to simulate the splashdown and recovery of Artemis astronauts from a full-scale mock-up of the Orion spacecraft.

Before joining the European astronaut corps, Luca was selected in 2007 by the Italian Air Force to become a test pilot. He trained as an Experimental Test Pilot at EPNER, the French test pilot school in Istres.

Luca was promoted to the role of Colonel in the Italian Air Force ahead of his Beyond mission in 2019. He has logged more than 2000 hours flying time, is qualified on more than 20 types of military airplanes and helicopters and has flown over 40 types of aircraft.

His technical skills as test pilot will be put to the test once again during the Artemis III mission.

“Artemis III will push the boundaries of spacecraft operations in orbit.

ESA astronaut Luca Parmitano’s assignment as pilot reflects the depth of European expertise in human spaceflight and draws on his extensive operational experience in high-pressure situations,” said Josef Aschbacher, ESA’s Director General.

“At the same time, ESA’s European Service Module (ESM) will once again provide the critical capabilities that power Orion, demonstrating Europe’s enduring role at the very heart of the Artemis programme.

Crew Works Microbiology, Advanced Tech and Congratulates New Artemis III Crew

Microbiology and human research were the main scientific focus aboard the International Space Station on Tuesday to protect health on and off the Earth.

The Expedition 74 crew members also worked on advanced research hardware and sent down a congratulatory message to the Artemis III crew, who were named during an announcement from the Johnson Space Center in Houston.

Some common bacteria have shown an increased resistance to antibiotics in the space environment potentially affecting an astronaut’s ability to fight an infection.

Flight engineers Jack Hathway of NASA and Sophie Adenot of ESA (European Space Agency) explored the antibiotic-resistant organisms inside the Kibo laboratory module’s Life Science Glovebox and the Harmony module’s maintenance work area by processing the microbial samples and preparing them for DNA extraction and analysis.

Doctors will use the data to understand how microbes adapt to microgravity possibly informing countermeasures to reduce the risk to astronaut health and protect patients on Earth.

NASA flight engineers Jessica Meir and Chris Williams partnered together loading a CubeSat-packed small satellite orbital deployer into Kibo’s airlock that will soon be placed into the vacuum of space.

The Japanese robotic arm will grapple the deployer and point it away from the orbital outpost where it will safely deploy the shoebox-sized satellites into Earth orbit.

A series of tiny satellites will be released for public and private research, including the Hokushin-1 CubeSat that will test space technologies such as radio frequency, propulsion, and solar arrays.

Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergey Kud-Sverchkov and Andrey Fedyaev worked on a pair of different investigations on Tuesday to continuously monitor how weightlessness affects the human body.

Kud-Sverchkov, the orbital outpost’s commander, strapped an acoustic sensor around his neck that recorded his rapid exhalation to learn how living in space affects the respiratory system.

Fedyaev wore a set of cuffs attached to his arms, wrist, and fingers measuring his blood pressure for a microgravity cardiac experiment. Roscosmos flight engineer Sergei Mikaev was back on artificial intelligence research studying new tools to boost crew efficiency and communications aboard a spacecraft.

Four of the station’s astronauts also sent down a message congratulating the four new Artemis III crew members commander Randy Bresnik of NASA, pilot Luca Parmitano of ESA, and NASA mission specialists Frank Rubio and Andre Douglas.

The four flight engineers each spoke a few inspiring words with Meir stating, “Congratulations, Artemis III and godspeed on the journey ahead.” Watch the crew message on @Space_Station X.

The new movie Pressure, about the June 6, 1944 D-Day invasion, has a powerful relevance to the Space Coast that moviegoers here in Brevard County may not realize.

The film focuses on the 72 hours before that climactic event, when Supreme Allied Commander Dwight Eisenhower, played by Brendon Fraser, had to decide on what day to start the invasion.

The problem was precisely when to begin it. The American meteorologist, Irving Crick (played by Chris Messina), used historic models to develop his weather forecasts and recommended June 5.

His British counterpart, James Staag (Andrew Scott), disagreed, predicting fierce storms on that day, which would swamp Allied landing craft. Eisenhower had to reconcile the conflicting forecasts and perhaps postpone D-Day — which he did.

The meteorologists' role in planning this momentous military operation points to a larger issue that has profound impact today. World War II established a solid nexus between science and the military, and by extension, the government.

This link was further exemplified by the Manhattan Project, the government's top-secret operation employing thousands of scientists to build the ultimate weapon of destruction, the atom bomb.

Science helped to provide countless other innovations and improvements that the Allies exploited, giving them an edge in the conflict—proximity fuses, synthetic rubber, cryptology breakthroughs, and more.

After the war, the ligament joining science and government grew stronger. In particular, one event fortified this relationship. On October 4, 1957, the Soviet Union launched Sputnik, the world's first artificial satellite, inaugurating the Space Age.

The achievement caught many Americans off-guard and whipped the media and politicians into a frenzy, as they bemoaned the country's alleged inferiority to its Cold War rival in science and technology.

The instant laments were unfounded, and one person who knew U.S. strengths in these areas was the president at the time — Dwight Eisenhower.

DAF senior leaders explain, justify sizable budget boost in Senate hearing

Presenting a unified front, the highest-ranking civilian and military leaders of the Air Force and Space Force told a Senate subcommittee June 9 that the historic boost in spending for the department is necessary to defend the nation and that mechanisms are already in place to spend the funds wisely and to maximum effect.

“For the past 25 years, the Department of the Air Force's budget has been the smallest relative to GDP in its history,” the department’s secretary, Troy Meink, told the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense.

“At the same time, the nation has asked more of it. To meet its mission needs, the DAF was forced to shortchange both foundational readiness and much-needed modernization.

The fiscal 2027 President’s Budget breaks that pattern with a $338.8 billion request for the DAF, a 34% increase from last year,” Meink said.

Meink was joined at the hearing by Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Ken Wilsbach and Chief of Space Operations Gen. Chance Saltzman. The hearing was one of the first steps in the process of approving the department’s spending plan before the new fiscal year begins Oct. 1.

Broken apart, the proposal Congress is now considering stipulates $267.7 billion for the Air Force and $71.1 billion for the Space Force. Meink, Wilsbach and Saltzman said the funding is focused in broad strokes on sharpening readiness, continuing to modernize weapon systems, upgrading living conditions for personnel, and underwriting deterrence.

The budget request for the Air Force, Wilsbach said, “prioritizes restoring depth to our force by increasing funding for flying hours, munitions, maintenance, and advanced training that reflects the realities of today and tomorrow’s fight.”

He said the funding will also be used to continue developing the newest fighter, the F-47, and a collection of semiautonomous aircraft known as Collaborative Combat Aircraft, “while also investing in long-range strike, advanced munitions, and resilient command and control.”

Wilsbach also highlighted the continuing effort to modernize the nuclear deterrent through the B-21 Raider bomber program, upgrading the ageless B-52 Stratofortress, and the Sentinel land-based nuclear missile.

“Weapons system sustainment funding increased to over $22 billion and flying hours to nearly $10 billion. We are focused on readiness that continues to remain credible and can deliver effects,” Wilsbach told senators, while adding a caveat.

“Modernization is not only about replacing old platforms with new ones but evolving how we fight. Speed, survivability, and decision advantage will define future conflict. It requires a force that is more connected and adaptable.”

In his remarks to the Senate panel, Saltzman re-emphasized a common refrain: that space has become a central and indispensable part of commerce, everyday life and, most critically, the nation’s defense.

The European Space Agency (ESA) and the European Commission signed a joint declaration on In-Space Operations and Services (ISOS), signalling a shared ambition to build European leadership in in-orbit servicing.

The agreement, signed on 10 June at the Berlin Air Show’s Space Pavilion by ESA Operations Director Rolf Densing and Director for Secure and Connected Space within the Directorate-General for Defence Industry and Space Catherine Kavvada, formalises the intent of ESA and the European Commission to cooperate closely on the development and maturation of key technologies and mission concepts.

The joint ISOS activities will ensure the future competitiveness and resilience of the European space sector, providing Europe with strategic autonomy.

In-space operations and services: a new approach to space

In-space operations and services will extend the entire space sector beyond the present frontiers.

Rather than relying on ‘disposable’ satellites, the future is also introducing orbital infrastructure elements that can achieve refilling, assembly, manufacturing, removal, repositioning, inspection, refurbishment and recycling in space.

This approach supports the transition towards a circular economy in space, allowing new operations and transportation paradigms. The improved sustainability and efficiency will go hand in hand with new commercial opportunities for Europe.

At the core of the new agreement lies a common objective: to ensure that Europe can operate independently in space, strengthening its technological leadership, competitiveness and long-term sustainability.

A central element of the cooperation between ESA and EC is the development of the EU’s In-Space Operations and Services for Infrastructure (ISOS4I) pilot mission.

The mission, aiming for launch by 2030, will be an important milestone towards establishing a European in-space service infrastructure. Together, the way will be paved for routine servicing, maintenance and upgrade of satellites in orbit.

ESA’s technological track record, from concept to commercial promise

ESA brings decades of expertise with mission design, technology development and operations to the collaboration.

Through its In-Space Servicing Assembly and Manufacturing (ISAM) activities, the agency has been driving the development of critical technical building blocks for in-orbit transportation and services, including robotics, close-proximity operations, servicing interfaces and modular spacecraft design.

By promoting interoperability and modularity from the outset, ESA aims to reduce the costs and resources needed, to improve safety and accelerate the emergence of a competitive European market for in-space services.

According to data from the Central Statistics Office,the average age of men who marry in Ireland is nearly 38, while the average age of women is nearly 36.

According to a2022 poll, 85 percent of Irish people said they wanted at least two children, while only 2 percent said they wanted none.

Despite the desire to have children persisting in Irish society, birth rates have fallen almost 18 percent in the last decade.

OʼBrien noted thatdelaying childbearing into one’s thirtiesmakes it far less likely that person will have any children at all.

Ukraine launched a missile and drone attack targeting the Russian city of Cheboksary early Wednesday morning, resulting in three injuries, local governor Oleg Nikolaev has said.

Two of the wounded were hospitalized with moderate injuries, while a third person with minor wounds was treated and sent home, the governor of Chuvashia Region wrote on Telegram.

Cheboksary is a city of almost 500,000 people on the Volga River, located some 900 km from Russia’s border with Ukraine.

Ukrainian media claimed that Kiev deployed locally made long-range Flamingo missiles in the attack, which reportedly targeted an electronics plant in the city.

Ukraine also attacked Russia's Samara Region overnight. Three people were wounded in a drone raid, according to local governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev.

Several industrial facilities suffered damage in the attack, which involved dozens of UAVs, the governor said.

In total, 326 Ukrainian drones were shot down across Russia overnight as the country came under another large-scale Ukrainian aerial raid, the Defense Ministry reported.

The interceptions took place over Moscow, Belgorod, Bryansk, Volgograd, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Lipetsk, Novgorod, Ryazan, Rostov, Ryazan, Samara, Saratov, Smolensk, Orel, Tver, Tula, Ulyanovsk and Krasnodar regions, as well as over Crimea and the Black Sea, the ministry said.

Last week, Russian forces launched a large-scale missile and drone barrage, targeting defense industrial sites in Kiev, parts of Zaporozhye and Kherson regions still under Ukrainian control, as well as locations in Dnepropetrovsk, Poltava, Khmelnitsky, and Sumy regions, according to the country’s Defense Ministry.

Another major raid by Moscow on May 24 saw two state-of-the-art intermediate-range hypersonic Oreshnik systems being deployed.

Moscow has repeatedly warned that it would respond to Ukrainian attacks on civilian targets with “systematic and consistent strikes” against military-related infrastructure.

Russian officials have said potential targets include drone manufacturing sites, command centers, and other “decision-making centers.”

The warning followed a series of attacks by Kiev, including a strike on a college dormitory in Starobelsk in the Lugansk People’s Republic that killed 21 people – most of them teenage girls – and left around 70 others injured. Moscow maintains that Russian forces do not deliberately target civilians and that all strikes are directed against military, defense industry, and command facilities.

New Delhi has condemned the strike on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz which left three Indian sailors missing

The Indian Foreign Ministry has condemned an attack on an oil tanker off the coast of Oman and called for an “immediate de-escalation of tensions” in the Strait of Hormuz.

New Delhi also summoned US Chargé d’Affaires Jason Meeks to protest the assault on the ship.

Three Indian crew members are missing following the attack on the vessel, which had 24 on board, New Delhi said.

The Palau-flagged products tanker MT Settebello issued a distress call on Wednesday, reporting a missile attack on its engine room, 20 nautical miles northeast of Sohar in the Gulf of Oman.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a post on X that "U.S. aircraft fired precision munitions into the ship’s engine room after the crew repeatedly failed to comply with directions from American forces."

“We condemn the attack on the commercial vessel Settebello off the coast of Oman, earlier today,” the Indian Foreign Ministry said. “Of the 24 Indian crew onboard, 21 Indians have been rescued thus far and three Indians are reportedly missing.”

“The continuing incidents of attacks on shipping in the region are deeply worrisome and a direct result of the ongoing conflict in the region,” the ministry said.

The Indian Embassy in Oman said it is monitoring the situation and “proactively coordinating with the Omani authorities in the ongoing search and rescue operation.” The ship tracking website Marine Traffic has listed the ship’s destination as Fujairah, UAE.

Belfast blazed with arson attacks last night as masked menexpressed their anger over mass migration to the United Kingdomand recent crimes against native Britons.

Protests also erupted in Scottish cities like Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Ayr.

On Tuesday, June 9, violence broke out in Belfast, Northern Ireland, as large groups of masked men dressed in black set fire to garbage cans, vehicles, and even shops sand homesas they allegedly sought to intimidate and drive out residents of foreign extraction.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the violence this morning over X. (He allowed it he flooded the country with Muslims, he has no right to speak)

“The scenes in Belfast last night were shocking and completely unacceptable. There is no justification for the violence and disorder that we saw threatening our communities, nor for those who encouraged it, online or elsewhere,” he wrote.

“It is clear that people were targeted last night because of their background and I will not tolerate it. Those responsible will feel the full force of the law,” he wrote. In Glasgow, Scotland, hundreds of people, among them young men wearing masks, processed to the Royal Concert Hall. There are reports that some of the protestors harassed immigrant bicycle couriers.Some carried signs reading, “Scotland for the Scottish.”At the same time, at least one of the demonstrators carried a Polish flag.

In Edinburgh, the Scottish capital, asmall group of menmarched up the city center’s Princes Streetsinging, “We want our country back.”

In Ayr, on the west coast, a hundred people gathered in the town center with ahome made flag reading, “Stop the Boatspp,” in reference to unregulated dinghies transporting immigrantsfrom northern France to the British south coast.

The Nationalnewspaper reported that the protest appeared “to be peaceful.”Scotland’s First Minister John Swinney condemned the demonstrations! (Of Course)

“The scenes we saw in Glasgow, Edinburgh andAyr last night are unacceptable,” he wrote on X.

“Scotland is a welcoming nation and those who choose to make their lives hereare valued members of our communities. (Is he addressing to illegals only, sounds like it.) Racism, hatred and intimidation have no place in Scotland. We must stand against it.”

His remarks received a torrent of abuse in response.

The protests were sparked by theattempted murder of a Scottish man resident in Belfast, Stephen Ogilvie, by Hadi Alodid, a Sudanese national, on Monday night. A viral video ofOgilvie lying in the street and bleeding profusely from his face and neck while his attacker straddled him has gone viral.

It was reported Tuesday that theSudanese migranthad traveled from Sudan to France and then to Dublin beforearriving in Belfast by bus and immediately applying for refugee status. This was granted, and he was given leave toremain in the United Kingdom for five years. Ogilvie, who is now in hospital, was saved from death by members of the public. The man who rushed forward with a hurling stick has been identified as Maitiu Mág Tighearnán (Matt Tierney).

According to Belfast Live,Ogilvie’s family issued a public statement thanking his rescuers but appealing for peace:

“We are aware of the tensions and talk of protests following this incident. We want to make it absolutely clear that overnight unrest is not welcome,and peaceful protest is the only way forward,” they wrote. “We have many migrants who make a deeply valuable contribution to our country, including in our healthcare system and hospitality sector, and we depend on them to make our country work. Tensions in the U.K. have been rising since last month’s revelations about the December 2025 murder of Henry Nowak,an English teenager of partly Polish descent. Nowak had been stabbed multiple times by his attacker, Vickrum Digwa, and instead of summoning medical help, Digwa and his family both concealed his crime and told police Nowak had subjected Digwa to racist abuse. The police are currently facing global scrutiny for uncritically trusting the testimony of the attacker while Nowak lay dying.

aiwan has launched approximately 36 US-supplied missiles into the water off the coast of mainland China, in a first-of-its-kind live-fire drill on the self-governing island’s west coast.

The exercise comes amid mounting tensions between Taipei and Beijing, which considers Taiwan sovereign Chinese territory.

The drills took place on Wednesday and involved the firing of reduced-range training rockets from US-made High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) into the Taiwan Strait.

According to Taipei, the exercise was meant to simulate an attack on an invading Chinese force and demonstrate HIMARS’ ability to “shoot-and-scoot” by avoiding counter strikes.

HIMARS has a range of up to around 300 km, meaning it could potentially hit targets in China’s southeastern Fujian Province across the strait.

Taiwan has ordered 29 HIMARS launchers from the US and has also been building up anti-ship and air defense systems.

Chinese officials have repeatedly condemned US arms sales to Taipei as interference in China’s internal affairs and a violation of the decades-old One-China policy.

While Washington does not officially recognize Taiwan as an independent state, it has maintained close unofficial ties with Taipei and remains its main arms supplier.

During his meeting with US President Donald Trump in Beijing last month, Chinese President Xi Jinping described Taiwan as the most important issue in China-US relations and warned that mishandling it could push the two countries into “a very dangerous situation.”

Beijing considers Taiwan part of China and has consistently warned against separatism on the island. Xi has repeatedly said Beijing seeks peaceful reunification, but has refused to rule out the use of force if provoked.

An Arizona jury convicted a Marine combat veteran who threatened to blow away President Donald Trump with an M16 rifle, saying he would do it with "rounds targeting the head, not the ear."

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Arizona tells Law&Crime that Rene Ortiz, of Casa Grande, was found guilty on Monday of threats against the president following a four-day trial in Phoenix. His sentencing has not been scheduled yet.

Ortiz went on trial this week after being arrested in early 2025 for allegedly hurling assassination threats against Trump in November and December 2024 when he was the president-elect.

Ortiz threatened Trump in documents left at federal courthouses in Phoenix and Tucson, first asking the courts to "execute the newly elected POTUS by firing an M-16A2 Service Rifle with a magazine of 6 rounds" before threatening to do it himself if his demands weren't met, according to a federal complaint.

"The execution shall commence 3 days upon notice to the Defendants to this action," Ortiz said, noting how the "6 rounds to be shot will be from 300 or 500 yards away from the target," per the complaint.

"ANY REFUSAL OF ANY RIGHT, MR. ORTIZ WILL BE ENTITLED TO SHOT THE INCOMING FRAUDULENT ELECTED POTUS FROM 300 OR 666 YARDS AWAY WITH 666 ROUNDS FOR AN M-16A2 SERVICE RIFLE AT THE INAGURATION [sic]," Ortiz threatened, adding that he had an "Expert Badge" in marksmanship.

Federal agents questioned Ortiz about the threats on Dec. 5, 2024, at the Secret Service Phoenix field office. During the interview, Ortiz admitted to making them.

"When asked if Ortiz plans to shoot [Trump], Ortiz responded, 'If my demands are not met,'" according to the complaint. "Ortiz explained his grievance is with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Ortiz explained while employed at the VA they promised to pay for his schooling if he quit working for them. Ortiz quit working at the VA and began school but has not been reimbursed for his education."

During his trial, Ortiz's family said he was upset after being fired from the Department of Veterans Affairs, according to the Tucson Sentinel. He began drafting lawsuits to challenge his termination and hand-delivered documents to the courthouses with help from family members, who drove him and said they had no idea what he was actually saying in the documents.
