Haribo has urgently recalled sweets after they were allegedly found to contain cannabis, and made several people including children to fall ill.

The people affected contacted the police, who launched an investigation into the case, which is centred around sweets sold in the Netherlands.

The Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) said it was conducting an investigation, and that "samples were taken and cannabis was found in them."

"We immediately contacted Haribo and they issued a safety warning," a spokesperson for the NVWA told the Dutch news outlet Hart van Nederland.

"How the cannabis ended up in the sweets is still unknown. The police are investigating this further," the NVWA added.

Haribo has previously said that there were certain products in circulation that were causing health problems, after people reported feeling dizzy.

It is yet unclear how widespread the potential contamination is, but Haribo has issued a safety warning while investigations are ongoing.

A Haribo spokesperson said: "The incident is contained to the Netherlands, to a specific product and batch. HARIBO products in the UK and other markets are not affected.

"The safety of our consumers is our highest priority and HARIBO takes this incident very seriously, which is why a recall has been issued in the Netherlands.

"HARIBO is working closely with the authorities to support their investigation and establish the facts around the contamination."

The contamination was first discovered when a number of members of a family reported feeling sick after eating the sweets.

The investigation initially concerned three bags, but Haribo has launched a recall as a precaution.

The company is specifically telling customers not to eat the kilogram bags of Happy Cola F!ZZ, with the specific product code L341-4002307906.

Other production codes, as well as all other Haribo products, are safe to eat according to the company.

Customers who bought the affected kilo bags have been asked to send the sweets back to the company for a full refund.

Stephen Miller is turning up the heat on federal immigration authorities, instructing officers to “supercharge” deportations beyond their already record-breaking purge of illegal immigrants.

In a tense meeting last week, Miller and U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem laid down the law, ordering deputies present to arrest at least 3,000 illegal immigrants per day going forward, according to two sources familiar with the meeting.

How the two Trump advisors arrived at the figure is unclear. Still, it is three times the number of arrests that the Trump administration was making during the earlier days of its mass deportation implementation.

The increased pressure comes amid plummeting numbers at the U.S. borders, where illegal crossings have fallen to anemic or nonexistent levels unseen since the 1960s. It also signals an increasingly aggressive approach that has materialized in places like Nantucket, Massachusetts, where on Tuesday, federal authorities arrested dozens of suspected illegal immigrant criminals.

The May 21 meeting was the fiercest attendees had seen Miller, President Trump’s architect of his deportation strategy, four individuals told Axios.

There, he demanded that field office directors and special agents in charge increase arrest and deportation daily metrics to his new goal as soon as possible, pointing to historic surges in illegal immigration that took place under the Biden administration.

Noem, in contrast, took a milder approach, asking ICE officials for their opinions as well as Corey Lewandowski, a former Trump campaign aide and current Special Government Employee advising DHS.

The tone of Miller’s remarks left those present feeling that their jobs are in jeopardy if they do not fulfill his mandate, two sources said, while a third characterized the speech as an attempt to motivate the ICE workforce.

It was not the first time Miller had yelled at immigration officials about failing to meet expectations, they recalled.

Immigration officers hold about 49,000 people in ICE custody, according to the latest data available for May. That figure represents a significantly larger population than what Congress had appropriated funds for since Trump took office.

Key to the approach will be unprecedented access immigration authorities have used to discover the whereabouts of illegal immigrants, even as they attend court hearings in a bid to remain in the United States. Federal officials last week began to arrive at hearings for illegal immigrants, detaining them after they had met with a judge, according to Reuters.

A strategy of controversial deportations has been snarled in court disputes following the March deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an illegal immigrant living in Maryland who was deported to El Salvador despite a court order. Trump officials contend that they honored the judge’s ruling and that the plane had already left U.S. airspace by the time they received notice.

House Republicans, responding to the flurry of arrests, appropriated an additional $147 billion in immigration funds over the next 10 years as part of the “big, beautiful” bill passed last week.

In the meantime, ICE and DHS are posting requests for additional staff, bed space, and resources from organizations willing to partner with both agencies.

“Keeping President Trump’s promise to deport illegal aliens is something the administration takes seriously,” White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson said in a statement. “We are committed to aggressively and efficiently removing illegal aliens from the United States, and ensuring our law enforcement officers have the resources necessary to do so. The safety of the American people depends upon it.”

Ukraine must have relied on assistance from the West if it did in fact target a helicopter carrying Russian President Vladimir Putin last week, former US Marine Corps intelligence officer and UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter has told RT.

Russian air defense division commander Yury Dashkin told the Russia 1 channel last week that Putin’s helicopter had been caught in the “epicenter” of a massive Ukrainian drone attack during a visit to Kursk Region on May 20.The intensity of aerial incursions “increased significantly” when the president was in the air, with 46 incoming fixed-wing UAVs being shot down in the area, he said.

In an interview with RT on Wednesday, Ritter stressed that “if the Ukrainians drones actually targeted the Russian president,they did not do so in a vacuum... there would have been assistance provided by the West, which means that the West is targeting the Russian president.”

“If you read the Russian nuclear doctrine, this is a trigger for Russian nuclear retaliation or preemptive strikes. So, who is playing with fire here? It is not Vladimir Putin who is playing with fire. It is Ukraine and the West that are playing with fire,” he added.

The former US Marine Corps major was referring to a comment by US President Donald Trump, who claimed earlier this week that Putin was “playing with fire.”

The statement by Trump followed large-scale Russian strikes against Ukrainian military infrastructure, which Moscow said were retaliation for the intensification of drone attacks by Kiev on civilian targets inside Russia. According to the Defense Ministry in Moscow, more than 2,300 Ukrainian UAVs have been intercepted over the past week above Russian territory, mostly away from the front line.

Ritter expressed concern that there is a split in the US administration between opponents of Russia and those who are in favor of improving ties with Moscow. But at the same time, representatives of both camps and Trump himself are no experts on Russia, he added.

The US president “is a victim of basically the last words whispered into his ear before he goes to bed at night or the first words whispered into his ear when he wakes up in the morning…Trump is not well briefed [on Russia]. Look, this is a very dangerous situation,” Ritter warned.

Spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said investigators are working to find out where the messages to Vladimir Medinsky are coming from

Alleged threats being made against Russia’s chief negotiator Vladimir Medinsky and his family are “outrageous,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday, noting that authorities are already working to determine their source.

His remarks come after TV presenter Vladimir Solovyov recently stated that Medinsky – who led Russia’s delegation at the peace talks with Ukraine in Istanbul earlier this month – was receiving death threats from the Ukrainian side. His family was also allegedly targeted.

Peskov called the situation “unprecedented” and said that if investigators find that threats are coming from Ukraine, it would be “utterly outrageous,” particularly as Moscow has offered to hold another round of negotiations next Monday.

According to Solovyov, the threats are coming from Ukrainian nationalists, who have even targeted Medinsky’s children. He claimed that the negotiator’s family has received messages such as “we know where your children are and we have a lot of explosive-packed scooters.”

Several terrorist attacks involving electric scooters have taken place in the past, including the December 2024 murder of Igor Kirillov, the head of Russia’s Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Defense Forces.

Solovyov also recalled that “there were cases when negotiators were threatened, and there were tragic cases, and they are well known.”One such case could involve Ukrainian banker Denys Kireyev, who was killed in March 2022 shortly after participating in early peace talks with Russia.

Solovyov said that Medinsky had personally discussed the issue with Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, who was the head of Kiev’s delegation in Istanbul.He reportedly insisted to Medinsky that the alleged threats were not coming from Ukrainian authorities.(so are the authorities looking for these criminals?)

Following Solovyov’s claims, the head of Russia’s Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin ordered the opening of a criminal case to identify the persons involved in threatening Medinsky’s family.

Moscow and Kiev have been working on their own draft memorandums outlining a path towards a peaceful settlement. Earlier this month, the two sides met for the first time since peace negotiations collapsed in 2022.

Russian official killed in suspected Ukrainian assassination

The governor of Russia’s Stavropol Region has said Kiev’s operatives were potentially behind the blast on Wednesday

A Russian government official who previously fought in the Ukraine conflicthas been killed in a suspected assassination by Ukrainian operatives in the southern city of Stavropol, local authorities have said.

Witnesses reported hearing a loud blast on Wednesday evening before discovering the bodies of two men in a residential neighborhood of the Russian city. On Thursday morning, Stavropol Governor Vladimir Vladimirov identified one of the deceased as Zaur Gurtsiev, a regional government employee. He said investigators were considering all possible scenarios, “including a terrorist attack organized by Nazis from Ukraine.”

Gurtsiev had entered public service through a special program aimed at training and employing veterans who served in Russia’s military campaign against Ukraine and had demonstrated leadership qualities. According to his government profile, he had served as deputy head of Stavropol, overseeing security and counterterrorism.

Investigators have told RT thatthe second victim was identified as a 29-year-old acquaintance of Gurtsievand that an improvised explosive device most likely caused the deadly blast.

Earlier media reports based on purported CCTV footage showing the incident had claimed that the second victim may have been a suicide bomber.

Kiev maintains a state-run program for targeted assassinations, reportedly operated by CIA-trained special services. Originally directed at people in Donbass suspected of treason, the program was evidently expanded in 2022 as the conflict between Ukraine and Russia escalated.

Apparent victims of Ukrainian agents have included civilians, such as journalist Darya Dugina, who was killed by a car bomb in August 2022, and former Ukrainian lawmaker Ilya Kiva, who was fatally shot in December 2023.

BROOK PARK, Ohio - Jim Soeder is greeted by pleasantly surprised faces as he walks through his former stomping grounds at NASA Glenn Research Center.

The retired Senior Power Technologist is recognized by coworkers who want to know what brings him back to campus.

Due to his work on a major project during the 1980s and ’90s that no current employee at NASA Glenn was part of, the media relations staff has invited him to take a look at NASA technical drawings a local man found in his garage.

30 years in a garage

I’ve found strange things left behind by previous residents at my 100-year-old house, but a poster tube in my garage held the most surprising one.

Inside, a big 2’x3′ sheet of paper shows detailed schematics of a truss structure with solar panels, laboratory modules and antennas. At the top of the paper is the name Space Station Freedom, dated March 1992.

Seeing NASA’s name at the top corner, I reach out to NASA Glenn, who brought in Soeder.

What was Space Station Freedom?

Soeder explains the story of Space Station Freedom like an engineer and a historian put together.

With direction from President Ronald Reagan in 1984, NASA embarked on building a permanently inhabited space station within a decade.

NASA Glenn was one of four research facilities chosen to work on the project. Its assignment was to design the end-to-end power system from the solar arrays down to the loads.

While Space Station Freedom underwent many redesigns and roadblocks, the power system designed here in Cleveland remained intact as the project evolved into what became the International Space Station, or ISS.

“The Space Station comes over Cleveland on a regular basis. It’s the brightest thing in the sky, next to the moon,” Soeder says as he references smartphone apps that track the International Space Station’s position.

If you watch the Space Station go over in the night sky, what you’re actually seeing is the sun’s light reflecting off the large solar arrays. As Soeder puts it, you are seeing the Space Station Freedom power system flying on the ISS.

“You’re also seeing, really, the masterwork of NASA Glenn in the area of space power,” Soeder says.

Are the plans worth any money?

Soeder speculates that the plans I found in my garage might have been left there by a contractor for Grumman, the company in charge of integrating the four work packages between Glenn Research Center and the Johnson, Marshall and Goddard Space Flight Centers.

As for whether the drawings might be worth anything to a collector, Soeder was straight to the point.

“It’s not like finding a Rembrandt in your garage, unfortunately. I don’t think Antiques Road Show is going to be out after me to appraise NASA memorabilia,” he chuckles.

I may not be cashing in on my find, but the opportunity to meet Jim Soeder and learn a new piece of Cleveland history, courtesy of NASA, is something I’ll be talking about for a long time.

Space Agency Promises Color HD Videos at 60 FPS During the Next Moon Landing

The images sent back from the Moon during the Apollo missions of the 1970s will forever be remembered by history books.

After all, they showed, for the first time, human beings toiling away on a world other than their native one.

Ok, 'showed' may be a bit of an overstatement, as all the Apollo vids are low-definition, black and white, and so grainy they're borderline annoying.

The reasons behind that had to do with the technologies available at the time.

Not only were most of the cameras sent to the Moon black and white, but the bandwidth available was so limited that even the color ones of later Apollo missions didn't send back crystal clear images.

That will change, of course, as soon as the crew of the Artemis III mission will set foot on the surface of the Moon in 2027.

As per the European Space Agency, one of the major NASA partners for Artemis, the videos we'll see two years from now will be color, digital, and running at 60 frames per second.

It's unclear at this time what such capabilities will mean in terms of actual hardware. That's because, as the European Space Agency (ESA) itself says, sending a video back from the Moon is not as easy as uploading a clip to YouTube.

Aside from the recording equipment itself, which has to survive extreme conditions, including temperature, dust, and light, the videos themselves will have to tackle the challenges of signal delay (there's a 1.3-second delay between the Moon and Earth) and bandwidth.

To get a sense of what 60 fps hd vids from the Moon will require, ESA is currently running a series of test in a special facility called LUNA.

Engineers there are using different technologies and approaches in a bid to determine what the best hardware for recording and transmitting would be.

The findings so far, gained during a simulated moonwalk at the German facility, point to HDR video being the most suitable to show detail in shadowed areas of the Moon.

During the actual missions, clips will be shot by astronauts' cameras, including the ones that will be built into their suits, and sent back to Earth through whatever means available.

For the Artemis III mission, it's likely astronauts will have to make do one way or another to send videos back to Earth, but subsequent missions will take advantage of a constellation of five lunar satellites that will be placed in lunar orbit by ESA before the end of the decade.

Later on, there is even talk of integrating laser-based optical communication systems into everyday lunar operations.

According to the space agency, the videos recorded during moonwalks will be sent directly to Houston, where they will be decoded and then shared with the public.

Robots are already transforming industries here on Earth. The next big challenge is to build massive structures in orbit, hundreds of thousands of miles above Earth.

A new partnership between the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAE) and space-tech innovator Space Solar is turning this vision into reality through their AlbaTRUSS project.

Recently, the team demonstrated that robotic technology can assemble enormous infrastructure in space, entirely without human intervention.

“The AlbaTRUSS project is a milestone not just for our satellite architecture, but for the future of large-scale structures in space, from data centres to energy infrastructure,” said Dr Sam Adlen, Co-CEO of Space Solar.

If all goes as planned, then the goal is to have the first 30MW demonstrator operational by 2029 — with plans to achieve full gigawatt-scale capacity in the early 2030s.

Dual-arm robotic testing

Space Solar is focused on developing gigawatt-scale solar power satellites.

These are not small, conventional satellites; rather, they are envisioned as colossal structures, several kilometers long and 20 meters wide, composed of hundreds of thousands of modular units.

These satellites will capture constant solar energy in space, where the sun truly never sets.

Moreover, space-based solar power offers a solution to the inconsistent nature of terrestrial wind and solar energy.

Therefore, the satellites can provide constant, clean energy 24/7, unaffected by weather conditions. In fact, a single solar panel in space can generate 13 times the energy of its Earth-bound counterpart.

“Once constructed, these satellites capture solar power and beam it back down to Earth in the form of microwaves, which can be received by antennas on the ground and converted into electricity for the grid,” stated Adlen.

The UK startup is actively working towards its goal of wirelessly beaming power from space.

In May, they conducted successful tests of their innovative power-beaming technology, featuring a system that can electronically steer its energy beam 360 degrees. And in the very same month, they hit yet another major milestone

They successfully demonstrated that remotely operated dual-arm robotic manipulators could assemble components for future gigawatt-scale solar power satellites.

Specifically, the proof-of-concept demonstrated that robots could put together a scaled-down structural truss bay – an important tubing element of a satellite’s framework.

This confirmed the robots’ capability to handle a core component of future space-based mega-structures.

The demonstration took place at the UKAEA’s advanced test facilities on Culham Campus, Oxfordshire.

Robots are ideal for space

While the International Space Station stands as humanity’s biggest in-space construction, most satellites are still pre-built.

And the truth is, in-space assembly, especially with risky human spacewalks, is incredibly expensive. This is where robots shine.

Robots are ideal for building, maintaining, and even decommissioning infrastructure in orbit. They don’t need oxygen, can withstand diverse radiation levels, and work tirelessly in the harsh vacuum of space.

“Building a machine as complicated as a fusion power plant on Earth, which will be entirely remotely operated, is similar to building structures in space.

It could be a lunar station or a facility on Mars, so we’re talking about the future of humanity as well as ensuring energy security,” said Professor Rob Buckingham, Executive Director of UKAEA.

If successful, these robotic advancements could enable massive infrastructure projects in Earth’s orbit, including data centers and colossal energy farms.

And the research is already underway, with institutions like the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) actively developing robotic technologies for both lunar surface infrastructure and in-space assembly and manufacturing.

Meanwhile, NASA’s ARMADAS program continues to develop robotic systems for the autonomous construction of large-scale structures using modular components.

Forward-looking: Recent tests have proven that beaming solar energy to Earth from low-orbiting satellites is theoretically possible with existing technology.

If implemented, the method could resolve several flaws of conventional solar panels, providing a continuous source of renewable energy while occupying minimal space.

Researchers from Japan Space Systems (JSS) recently beamed energy wirelessly from a speeding jet to antennae on the ground.

The successful experiment confirms the viability of numerous tools that might eventually transmit solar power from space to Earth.

Low-orbit solar panels that beam energy to the surface have multiple advantages over ground-based solar farms. Without interference from the Earth's atmosphere, they can collect several times more energy.

The arrays would send power to Earth in the form of microwaves, which lose only five percent of their energy when passing through the atmosphere.

Furthermore, maintaining proper orbit enables the transmission of solar energy at night, ensuring an uninterrupted, round-the-clock supply.

Scientists theorize that solar energy from space might supplement the energy needed to power various land and air vehicles, further reducing carbon emissions.

Ground-based receivers would also cover far smaller areas than typical solar or wind farms.

However, some obstacles remain. Significant amounts of energy are lost during conversion to and from microwave emission.

Furthermore, all artificial satellites must deal with micrometeorites and the prospect of creating space debris. Some also theorize that orbital microwave emitters could become weapons of mass destruction.

Early JSS experiments confirmed wireless power transmission at distances ranging from 30 to 100 meters, while the latest test achieved complete success from a fast-moving object at 5km (3.1 miles).

The scientists flew a small jet over an antenna array and measured energy reception from multiple angles, demonstrating the capability to quickly and accurately redirect microwave transmissions.

The microwave transmissions utilize quantum interference to bounce waves from multiple sources simultaneously, which cancels out all waves except those moving in a chosen direction.

The concept resembles the act of splashing waves at multiple points in a body of water, which creates pockets of intense waves that complement each other and calm areas where waves cancel each other out.

JSS ultimately plans to beam energy from satellites orbiting 36,000km (22,369 miles) above the Earth. Researchers from Caltech completed a similar experiment in 2023.

The university's Microwave Array for Power-transfer Low-orbit Experiment directed enough energy from low-Earth orbit to power two LED lights on the ground.

Last year, a California startup proposed selling solar power redirected from space using an array of satellites equipped with mirrors.

President Trump signs executive order boosting US nuclear energy

President Donald Trump signed several executive orders (EOs) on nuclear energy proliferation and an order removing political considerations from public-sector science, as conservatives claimed the latter was scandalized in its response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Trump also signed restoring "gold standard science" as the cornerstone of federal research.

At the White House, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum said America led the postwar world on "all things nuclear" until we "stagnated" and "choked it with overregulation."

"We're going to have the lights on and AI operating when others are not because of our nuclear capabilities," added Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

A senior White House official said on Friday there has been a decline in "disruptive research" and investments in biomedical research, along with "serious cases" of fraud and misconduct and the inability to reproduce scientific methods for the purpose of restoring public trust.

The official also blamed policy responses to the COVID-19 pandemic and "woke DEI initiatives" for endangering the public’s trust in government scientists.

Now-retired NIAID Director Dr. Anthony Fauci was repeatedly denounced for flip-flopping and obfuscating during his time engineering the federal response to COVID-19, leading many particularly on the right to disregard and dismiss the legitimacy of federal health authorities outright.

That order cites the fact the Biden administration included political edits from teachers unions in school-reopening guidance, instead of leading with any scientific evidence.

The order will enforce "gold standard science," defined as reproducible, transparent and falsifiable – as well as being subject to peer review and making sure that scientists are not discouraged from discovering outcomes that run counter to a narrative.

In terms of nuclear energy, one order will reform nuclear R&D at the Energy Department, accelerate reactor testing at national labs and establish a pilot program for new construction.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright previously told Fox News Digital that revitalizing and highlighting the work of U.S. national labs is paramount to his agenda.

In a move that appears to support Wright’s push for nuclear power, Trump will sign an order aimed at advancing new reactor construction on public lands.

A senior White House official cited the importance of that type of reliable power-source for critical defense facilities and AI data centers.

Another order being signed Friday will overhaul the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to require it to rule on reactor license applications within 18 months.

Only two new nuclear reactors have begun construction and entered into commercial operation since the Carter administration.

A typically risk-averse culture that requires, for example, nuclear facilities to emit as little radiation as possible, including below naturally-occurring levels, which critics said has hindered the NRC from licensing new reactors as technology begets safer and cheaper means of production.

The orders will also seek to raise nuclear energy capacity from 100 gigawatts (GW) to 400 GW within 25 years.

Another order will establish a vision to mine and enrich uranium within the U.S., decreasing another avenue of foreign reliance – and "reinvigorate" the nuclear fuel cycle.

"That means America will start mining and enriching uranium and expanding domestic uranium conversion and enrichment capacity," a senior White House official said.

Trump is expected to leverage the Defense Production Act – which last helped secure COVID-19 paraphernalia like masks and ventilators – to seek agreements with domestic nuclear energy companies for the procurement of enriched uranium, as well as finding ways to manage spent nuke fuel.

Nuclear energy, the White House said in the order, "is necessary to power the next generation technologies that secure our global industrial, digital, and economic dominance, achieve energy independence, and protect our national security."

Joe Dominguez, of Constellation Energy; one of the stakeholders in the orders, said nuclear energy is a "24/7 resource."

"These data centers run 24/7 00 some of them will cost $200-300 billion, …[so] we can't use intermittent resources," Dominguez said. "If you can't get the plant on, you can't get revenue."

One of the orders also creates a special U.S. envoy for nuclear experts.

In the midst of applying his signature, Trump quipped, "could I use an auto-pen… what did Biden do?"

Paul Desmond Sanders Doyle, from the West Derby area of Liverpool, the alleged driver of the car that collided with pedestrians on Monday, is charged with:

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said the charges would be kept "under review as the investigation progresses".

In a statement issued to reporters on Thursday, chief crown prosecutor for CPS Mersey-Cheshire, Sarah Hammond, said: "The investigation is at an early stage.

"Prosecutors and police are continuing to work at pace to review a huge volume of evidence.

"This includes multiple pieces of video footage and numerous witness statements.

"It is important to ensure every victim gets the justice they deserve."

At the press conference, Assistant Chief Constable of Merseyside Police, Jenny Sims, added: "I fully understand how this incident has left us all shocked and saddened, and I know many will continue to have concerns and questions.

"Our detectives are working tirelessly, with diligence and professionalism, to seek the answer to all of those questions. When we are able to, we will provide further information."

There were a total of 79 confirmed casualties following the incident on Water Street in the city centre on Monday. More than 50 people were treated in different hospitals and seven people remained there on Wednesday in a stable condition.

Maxar Intelligence has appointed longtime technology executive Todd Surdey to lead its commercial operations as the company seeks to expand the market reach of its AI-powered geospatial technologies.

Surdey takes on the role of senior vice president and general manager of Maxar’s enterprise business segment, which supplies geospatial data and analytics to sectors including consumer mapping, energy, automotive and telecommunications.

Based in Westminster, Colorado, Maxar Intelligence operates a constellation of high-resolution Earth observation satellites and uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to extract insights from vast troves of geospatial data.

The company’s commercial offering includes products used for intelligent mapping, infrastructure monitoring, and autonomous navigation.

Surdey replaces Paul Granito, who left earlier this month after leading the enterprise business since 2023.

Maxar CEO Dan Smoot said in a statement May 29 that the company selected Surdey for his experience scaling go-to-market teams and ntroducing innovative software technologies to new markets.

Surdey’s appointment comes as Maxar seeks to expand beyond its core base of government and defense clients into commercial markets.

The company has increasingly leaned on artificial intelligence to enhance the utility of its satellite imagery and differentiate itself in a competitive geospatial intelligence market.

Surdey’s resume includes leadership roles at enterprise software and cybersecurity giants including Salesforce, VMware, Palo Alto Networks, Google, CrowdStrike, and Zoom.

U.S. Space Forces Europe – Space Forces Africa is advancing multinational collaboration and readiness by bringing cutting-edge space-based capabilities and electromagnetic warfare expertise to exercise African Lion 2025.

AL25, U.S. Africa Command’s largest annual joint exercise, brings together 41 nations and about 10,000 U.S. service members from April 14 to May 23.

Taking place across Ghana, Morocco, Senegal and Tunisia, the exercise features integrated training in airdrop, airlift, close air support, aeromedical evacuation and advanced space and electronic warfare operations.

SPACEFOREUR-AF greatly expanded its support this year, going from one day of space academics for AL24 to nine days of academics in AL25.

This year, SPACEFOREUR-AF personnel completed six days of Space-EW academics lessons covering more than 30 hours of instruction for 30 Moroccan royal armed forces students, including 10 officers and 20 enlisted members from the Moroccan Army and Navy.

The sessions in Agadir, Morocco, included contributions from a Moroccan Royal Armed Forces EW officer who delivered six hours of lessons, further enhancing bilateral collaboration.

Following the classroom instruction, the Hawaii Air National Guard’s 109th Electromagnetic Warfare Squadron led a two-day live demonstration of the Night Owl Electromagnetic Support System.

Monestime also delivered the TacSRT presentation to students in the Geospatial Intelligence Course, broadening its reach and showcasing the program’s versatility.

“Our goal here is to show how commercial space-derived and fused information can directly support operations, especially disaster response operations,” Monestime said.

Chief of Space Operations Gen. B Chance Saltzman visited Space Systems Command at Los Angeles Air Force Base May 22, engaging more than 500 Guardian acquirers to discuss their outsized impact on missions across the Space Force and Department of Defense.

Foregoing the formalities of a lectern or podium, Saltzman opted for a conversational approach, sitting opposite SSC Commander Lt. Gen. Philip Garrant as he spoke in candid detail about the instrumental nature of the acquisition workforce and its contributions to the lethality and success of the Joint Force.

“Space acquisition is a complex endeavor. It requires a service-level attention across processes, procedures, expertise and different competencies,” Saltzman explained.

“What makes space acquisition work is everybody coming together, collaborating, bringing their expertise, so that we can meet the sense of urgency that's required, deliver the capabilities that our warfighters need and address the threats that are only growing as we continue to move forward with the Space Force.”

Saltzman shared that, more than any other service, the Space Force mission requires a uniquely close coupling of acquisition and operations expertise to conduct activities in an agile, complex and hostile environment.

To most effectively combat emerging threats, he noted how critical it is for all Guardians to share a comprehensive understanding of Space Force competencies, encompassing acquisition, satellite operations, intelligence, cyberspace operations and more.

"What we're expecting officers to be are the leaders and planners of the Space Force," Saltzman said during a session with a senior crowd, underscoring that this requires a "broad understanding of our capabilities, of our missions, of the key activities that we perform."

He stressed that the Space Force, with fewer than 5,000 officers, cannot afford the deep specialization enabled by the significantly larger end strengths of other services.

For that reason, Saltzman explained, the Space Force is developing its Guardians differently. For example, new officers will begin their careers with foundational experience at the Space Force’s Officer Training Course.

After an initial assignment on crew, officers will have the flexibility either to specialize in an operational discipline or to apply for entry into the acquisition workforce.

He likened the new approach to a “career superhighway with multiple lanes," instead of a "worn-out path winding through a forest."

He emphasized that Guardian development should not be defined by an early commitment to a single functional area but rather by gaining skills with increasing scope of responsibility.

This requires members to grow as Guardians and not just “climbing the ladder within a single specialty.”

“We are too small a branch and require too much diversification of the senior level of our workforce to be strictly adhering to tribal precepts,” he said.

Saltzman acknowledged this marks a “fundamental shift” in talent development and committed to refining the approach based on real-time feedback.

He reassured Guardians who did not attend the new OTC as well as those in more senior grades that they would be evaluated against their peers based on the opportunities they were previously presented.

Following each session, Saltzman engaged directly with Guardians, answering questions and listening to feedback.

His visit highlighted the Space Force’s ongoing commitment to building versatile Guardians who are ready to conduct decisive warfighting operations.

Saltzman and his wife, Jennifer Saltzman, were welcomed to the base by Garrant and other senior leaders.

Before dedicating the bulk of his visit to speaking with Guardians, Saltzman also received key briefings from SSC Program Executive Officers including those leading the Assured Access to Space, Combat Power, Operational Test and Training Infrastructure and Space Sensing portfolios.

A Ukrainian drone struck an apartment block in southwestern Moscow early Thursday morning, as Kiev ramps up attacks on the Russian capital following the first direct talks between the two countries in three years.

The UAV hit the Mirax Park residential complex on Vernadsky Avenue, damaging the building’s facade and shattering windows. Many residents fled into the street after the blast.

Mayor Sergey Sobyanin stated that there were no casualties or “serious damage.” He added that three drones had been shot down over Moscow.

Residents reported hearing loud explosions in several neighborhoods. Another kamikaze drone struck the roof of a residential complex in Odintsovo, a town just outside Moscow.

On May 16, Russian and Ukrainian negotiators met in Istanbul for the first time since 2022, agreeing to carry out a large prisoner exchange and for each to submit detailed ceasefire proposals.

Kiev has since intensified its drone strikes deep inside Russia. On Wednesday, at least 12 UAVs were intercepted over the city, according to Russian officials.

The drones damaged three buildings and an industrial facility.

Ukraine must have relied on assistance from the West if it did in fact target a helicopter carrying Russian President Vladimir Putin last week, former US Marine Corps intelligence officer and UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter has told RT.

Russian air defense division commander Yury Dashkin told the Russia 1 channel last week that Putin’s helicopter had been caught in the “epicenter” of a massive Ukrainian drone attack during a visit to Kursk Region on May 20.

The intensity of aerial incursions “increased significantly” when the president was in the air, with 46 incoming fixed-wing UAVs being shot down in the area, he said.

In an interview with RT on Wednesday, Ritter stressed that “if the Ukrainians drones actually targeted the Russian president, they did not do so in a vacuum... there would have been assistance provided by the West, which means that the West is targeting the Russian president.”

“If you read the Russian nuclear doctrine, this is a trigger for Russian nuclear retaliation or preemptive strikes. So, who is playing with fire here? It is not Vladimir Putin who is playing with fire.

It is Ukraine and the West that are playing with fire,” he added.

The former US Marine Corps major was referring to a comment by US President Donald Trump, who claimed earlier this week that Putin was “playing with fire.”

The statement by Trump followed large-scale Russian strikes against Ukrainian military infrastructure, which Moscow said were retaliation for the intensification of drone attacks by Kiev on civilian targets inside Russia.

According to the Defense Ministry in Moscow, more than 2,300 Ukrainian UAVs have been intercepted over the past week above Russian territory, mostly away from the front line.

Ritter expressed concern that there is a split in the US administration between opponents of Russia and those who are in favor of improving ties with Moscow.

But at the same time, representatives of both camps and Trump himself are no experts on Russia, he added.

The US president “is a victim of basically the last words whispered into his ear before he goes to bed at night or the first words whispered into his ear when he wakes up in the morning… Trump is not well briefed [on Russia].

Look, this is a very dangerous situation,” Ritter warned.

A Russian government official who previously fought in the Ukraine conflict has been killed in a suspected assassination by Ukrainian operatives in the southern city of Stavropol, local authorities have said.

Witnesses reported hearing a loud blast on Wednesday evening before discovering the bodies of two men in a residential neighborhood of the Russian city.

On Thursday morning, Stavropol Governor Vladimir Vladimirov identified one of the deceased as Zaur Gurtsiev, a regional government employee.

He said investigators were considering all possible scenarios, “including a terrorist attack organized by Nazis from Ukraine.”

Gurtsiev had entered public service through a special program aimed at training and employing veterans who served in Russia’s military campaign against Ukraine and had demonstrated leadership qualities.

According to his government profile, he had served as deputy head of Stavropol, overseeing security and counterterrorism.

Investigators have told RT that the second victim was identified as a 29-year-old acquaintance of Gurtsiev and that an improvised explosive device most likely caused the deadly blast.

Earlier media reports based on purported CCTV footage showing the incident had claimed that the second victim may have been a suicide bomber.

Kiev maintains a state-run program for targeted assassinations, reportedly operated by CIA-trained special services.

Originally directed at people in Donbass suspected of treason, the program was evidently expanded in 2022 as the conflict between Ukraine and Russia escalated.

Apparent victims of Ukrainian agents have included civilians, such as journalist Darya Dugina, who was killed by a car bomb in August 2022, and former Ukrainian lawmaker Ilya Kiva, who was fatally shot in December 2023.

Russian forces have carried out precision strikes on a facility used by Ukrainian special operations forces, the Defense Ministry in Moscow announced Thursday.

The targeted site, located in Ukraine’s Nikolaev Region, reportedly included a munitions depot, a vehicle hangar, a command post, and a dormitory for commandos.

The strike was carried out using Geran-2 long-range drones and Iskander-M missiles, according to the ministry. Officials suggested that foreign nationals fighting for Kiev may have been killed in the attack.

Footage released by the ministry and mapping details of the strike point to the location as Ochakov, a key port city near the junction of the Black Sea and the Dnieper–Bug estuary.

The Dnieper River forms a natural dividing line between Russian and Ukrainian forces in the south.

Ochakov is reported to serve as a base for British-assisted naval drone operations, from which Ukraine has launched attacks using unmanned surface vessels against Russian targets in Crimea.

Just south of the city lies the Kinburn Spit, a narrow strip of land connected to Russia’s Kherson Region.

Ukrainian forces have attempted to seize the position several times, while Russian troops have used it to launch strikes on Ukrainian military infrastructure.

In recent weeks, Ukrainian forces have ramped up long-range drone attacks inside Russian territory, amid pressure from Washington for Kiev to engage in direct peace negotiations with Moscow.

The Russian military has responded by targeting suspected drone assembly sites and other strategic installations. The strike on Ochakov appeared to be part of such nighttime operations.

Russia could authorize strikes inside Germany if Ukraine receives and attacks it with German Taurus cruise missiles, a senior Russian lawmaker has warned.

State Duma Defense Committee chairman Andrey Kartapolov insists that the weapon requires German military assistance to operate.

Speculation that Germany could supply Ukraine with Taurus missiles, which can potentially reach Moscow, reemerged earlier this week after Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that Berlin and its partners had allowed Kiev to use Western weapons without any range restrictions.

When asked by journalists on Wednesday about possible deliveries of the weapon, Merz replied that they are “possible,” adding that Ukrainian troops would require “several months of training” to be able to launch them.

Kartapolov told the Life.ru outlet on Wednesday that Russia is “ready for everything” and will respond to the possible shipments of Taurus missiles to Kiev.

“We are ready to shoot down the Taurus’, and to strike the places from where they would be launched and those who would launch them, and, if necessary, the places from where they would have been delivered,” he warned.

The senior lawmaker, who is a former Russian deputy defense minister and holds the rank of colonel-general, stressed that the long-range missiles that had been earlier supplied to Ukraine by the US, UK and France – ATACMS, Storm Shadow and SCALP, respectively – can only be launched by their own specialists.

This is because “the Ukrainian military lacks experts capable of operating such equipment.

That is, the Ukrainians can press the ‘start’ button - it is not a problem, but they cannot input the data,” which comes from American and Western European satellites, he explained.

“If Germany transfers these missiles. Then, naturally, there will be German specialists on the ground” making sure that they can be launched, Kartapolov said.

The German Defense Ministry announced on Wednesday that Berlin will give another $5.6 billion in military aid to Kiev, most of which will be used to “finance the production of long-range weapon systems in Ukraine.”

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reacted to the development by saying that Berlin’s “direct involvement in the war is now obvious.”

According to Lavrov, Germany “is sliding down the same slippery slope it already followed a couple of times in the last century – down toward its own collapse.”

Another viral video, another news story, another scene straight out of a sitcom, except it’s not scripted and nobody’s laughing for the right reasons. It’s just more proof of a fact many people refuse to admit: most women simply aren’t cut out for the brutal demands of frontline police work. And that’s not a dig; it’s biology.

Men and women are different. That used to be a common sense statement before it became a hate crime. The average woman isn’t wired for violent confrontation, tactical raids, or the split-second decision-making that life-or-death situations demand. And that’s perfectly fine, just like most men aren’t built for deeply nurturing, emotionally intensive caregiving roles.

But instead of embracing those differences and building a stronger society around complementary roles, we’re watching the system collapse under the weight of forced equity… and nobody suffers more than the women being shoved into roles they’re not equipped to handle. The 25-year-old attacker, identified by local media as Sulaiman A., went on a stabbing spree yesterday morning and knifed well-known Islam critic Michael Stuerzenberger, a police officer and several bystanders in the city centre.

• In a chaotic new video from the incident, a scramble of people can be seen embroiled in a punch-up next to signs advertising an anti-Israel protest.

• The group can be seen tackling each other to the ground while one man in a blue coat takes multiple swings at another person on the floor.

• After throwing a series of overarm punches, at least two cops are spotted lunging towards the man donning the bright coat until he is knocked to the ground.

• Officers seemingly tackled the man believing he was the assailant after seeing him beating up the other individual who was already floored.

• Following the horror attack, locals in Mannheim have said that they now feel unsafe following the ‘nightmare’ knife attack which left a police officer in a coma and several others injured.

Revolver:We regret to inform you that yet another female cop DEI hire who accidentally shot someone has made the news. While this isn’t a new story, it’s getting fresh attention after an appeals court handed down a decision this former police officer won’t be happy about.

The DEI officer, a female who had no business wearing a badge, shot a man in the back during a traffic stop. Without a bodycam or dash cam in her cruiser, she did what any good little lady would do—she lied to cover up her mistake. After all, who’s the public more likely to believe? The female cop or the lowly peasant?

DEI cop Kasha Domingue shot Mr. Dilley in the back as he ran away during that routine traffic stop. Prosecutors revealed she never even attempted to render aid, leaving Dilley to wait nearly eight minutes until another officer finally arrived.

And speaking of that, take this latest embarrassment from the UK, where three female officers are caught on camera attempting to breach a door during a raid. The City of Flin Flon has stated that water bombers had to be grounded yesterday because of drone interference in the area, impacting efforts to fight a wildfire that jumped the Saskatchewan border.

Kristen Hayward, assistant deputy minister with Manitoba Wildfire Service, confirmed the incident during a press conference on Wednesday alongside Premier Wab Kinew.

“Unfortunately, aircraft had to be grounded off that fire yesterday as well due to a drone incursion in the airspace over the fire,” said Hayward.

“You got a community of thousands of people who’s on the verge of evacuation, and one of the reasons is because we couldn’t fly water bombers in the area,” said Kinew.

“Putting your drone up there and getting a video that you can share is simply not worth it.”

The Manitoba government told CTV News the drone issue was in Saskatchewan, which was confirmed by the City of Flin Flon — a border community that spans both provinces.

Hayward added that it is “disappointing” that people are not hearing the message that operating a drone near a wildfire can impede efforts to respond.

Fines up to $15,000 possible

According to Manitoba RCMP, drones must be operated away from a natural hazard or disaster area, away from areas where operation could interfere with emergency operations and “far away” from other aircraft.

The federal government states that those who break rules regarding drone operation could receive fines up to $3,000 for individuals or up to $15,000 for corporations, with multiple penalties and possible jail time.

Manitoba Wildfire Service had to ground planes around a wildfire in the Rural Municipality of Lac du Bonnet earlier this month, according to the province.

Manitoba RCMP stated that data is not yet available on the number of individuals that have been fined this year for flying a drone that interfered with water bombers.

AI CEO issues stark warning

Up to 50% of entry-level white-collar jobs may be lost in the next five years, according to Anthropic’s Dario Amodei

Artificial intelligence could eliminate half of all entry-level white-collar jobs within the next five years, the CEO of American AI research company Anthropic, Dario Amodei has warned.

In a statement to Axios published on Wednesday, Amodei, who co-founded Anthropic and is a former OpenAI executive, said he hopes to jolt the US government and fellow developers into preparing for the consequences of rapid automation. AI could spike unemployment in the US to 10-20% in the next one to five years, he warned.

AI development companies are already working on systems that could soon replace workers in technology, finance, law, consulting and other white-collar professions, particularly entry-level positions, Amodei claimed.

The public and politicians are still “unaware” that a major shift is about to happen and insisted that companies and officials needed to stop “sugar-coating” what lies ahead, particularly for younger workers.

Earlier this month, a report by the Linux Foundation, commissioned by Meta, found that open source AI is already transforming the economy by boosting efficiency, innovation, cost savings, and revenue gains.

However, Amodei has expressed concern that people could continue to stay ignorant of the threat of being replaced by AI, especially if the US government chooses to stay silent on the issue out of fear of spooking workers or falling behind China.

Soon, “almost overnight,” business leaders will see savings in replacing humans with AI and implement a change “en masse.” They will stop opening new jobs or backfilling existing ones, and replace human workers with automated alternatives, Amodei claimed.

He has proposed several mitigation strategies, including a special index to track AI’s impact across occupations, and briefings for lawmakers to raise awareness. He also suggested a “token tax” — a system where a percentage of AI-generated revenue would be redistributed by the government.

Amodei’s warning comes as a number of major companies have recently started laying off a considerable amount of workers, which some believe is being done in anticipation of major shifts due to AI.

Earlier this month, Microsoft fired some 6,000 workers, mostly engineers, despite reporting strong sales and profits. Walmart has cut 1,500 corporate jobs to “simplify operations” while Crowdstrike - a Texas based cybersecurity company - has slashed 500 positions citing “a market and technology inflection point, with AI reshaping every industry.”

Garber received a one-minute standing ovation at the start of his address, in large part due to his calling for universities to stand “firm” against the Trump administration, which has waged war against Ivy League schools including Harvard and Columbia in recent months.

Garber, who became president of the elite school last August, told graduates they should be willing to “expand our thinking and change our minds in the process.” And saidhis hope is that they “stay comfortable being uncomfortable.”

That same morning, in a Boston federal court just six miles from the commencement, District Court Judge Allison Burroughs dealt a blow to the Trump administration, slapping a temporary injunction on its plans to restrict the admittance of foreign students or those on a visa.

“I want to maintain the status quo,” Burroughs said from the bench.

“It doesn’t need to be draconian, but I want to make sure it’s worded in such a way that nothing changes,”she said, with Harvard’s lead attorney Ian Gershengorn telling the judge he doesn’t want any “shenanigans” to take place once the order is set.

The Trump administration filed a legal notice before the hearing commenced giving Harvard 30 days to make its case to remain a part of the Student and Exchange Visitor Program.

There's A New Legal Tender In FL As Law Is Signed

Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill into law this week recognizing gold and silver as legal tender in Florida. Under House Bill 999, gold and silver coins that meet specific purity standards can be used for transactions, although using it or accepting it is voluntary.

Gold coins must have 99.5 percent purity and silver coins must have 99.9 percent purity to be recognized as legal tender, according to the new law.

Purchases of gold and silver would also be exempt from sales tax.

Trump filed a $10 billion lawsuit against CBS News late last year after the disgraced 60 Minutes blatantly interfered in the 2024 presidential election with a malicious edit. In order to make Trump’s opponent, then Vice President Kamala Harris, appear smart, 60 Minutes removed a word salad answer she gave about Israel and replaced it with an answer that sounded somewhat coherent and even decisive.

Keep in mind that CBS benefits greatly from its free use of air waves owned by the public. Therefore, CBS is required to serve the public, not deceive the public, which is exactly what happened here.

Trump laterboosted his suit to $20 billion.

The fake media continue to claim that legal “experts”say the suit is frivolous, but the judge who refused to toss the suit out disagreed. Remember, an “expert” is whoever tells the regime media what they want to hear.

The drama is three-fold…

The third part of the drama is the best part: turmoil, tears, and uncertainty at CBS News and 60 Minutes. The disgraced show’s executive editor has already resigned. The president of CBS News has resigned. Skydance is threatening major changes to CBS News, which has become a major liability when it comes to credibility and ratings.

The news that CBS has offered to settle for $15 million will only increase the turmoil and unhappiness at CBS News, and those serial liars deserve all the turmoil and tears Trump can rain down on them.

The U.S. Court of International Trade incredibly ruled against the United States of America on desperately needed Tariffs but, fortunately, the full 11 Judge Panel on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit Court has just stayed the order by the Manhattan-based Court of International Trade. Where do these initial three Judges come from? How is it possible for them to have potentially done such damage to the United States of America? Is it purely a hatred of “TRUMP?” What other reason could it be? I was new to Washington, and it was suggested that I use The Federalist Society as a recommending source on Judges. I did so, openly and freely, but then realized that they were under the thumb of a real “sleazebag” named Leonard Leo, a bad person who, in his own way, probably hates America, and obviously has his own separate ambitions. He openly brags how he controls Judges, and even Justices of the United States Supreme Court — I hope that is not so, and don’t believe it is! In any event, Leo left The Federalist Society to do his own “thing.” I am so disappointed in The Federalist Society because of the bad advice they gave me on numerous Judicial Nominations. This is something that cannot be forgotten! With all of that being said, I am very proud of many of our picks, but very disappointed in others. They always must do what’s right for the Country! In this case, it is only because of my successful use of Tariffs that many Trillions of Dollars have already begun pouring into the U.S.A. from other Countries, money that, without these Tariffs, we would not be able to get. It is the difference between having a rich, prosperous, and successful United States of America, and quite the opposite. Surveillance video from disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein's first suspected suicide attempt was destroyed by accident, prosecutors say.

US prosecutors say the jail mistakenly saved footage from the wrong cell.

Epstein, a convicted sex offender, first tried to kill himself in July last year, then hanged himself in jail in August while awaiting trial on federal sex-trafficking charges.

He had pleaded not guilty to abusing dozens of girls, some as young as 14.

Soon after Epstein's death, in August, two of the CCTV cameras outside his cell had malfunctioned and were being examined by the FBI, US media reported.

Epstein was found semi-conscious in his prison cell with injuries to his neck on 25 July. After this incident, he was placed on suicide watch.

Eventually, Epstein was moved to a different cell, where he died on 10 August. Two prison guards have since been accused of failing to check on him during this time and falsifying records to say that they had.

There have been ongoing questions over the July recording, which was initially deemed missing and then was said to have been located by jail staff.

A letter filed by Assistant US Attorneys Jason Swergold and Maurene Comey said "the footage contained on the preserved video was for the correct date and time, but captured a different tier than the one where Cell-1 was located", New York City media report.

Prince Andrew spoke to the BBC in November about his links to Epstein

"The requested video no longer exists on the backup system and has not since at least August 2019 as a result of technical errors."

The request for the video was made by a lawyer for Nicholas Tartaglione, a former New York police officer who shared a cell with Epstein in July and is charged with homicide in an unrelated case.

The attorney argued the video could show his client had acted "admirably", possibly helping Epstein.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the BBC.

New York-born Epstein worked as a teacher before moving into finance. Prior to the criminal cases against him, he was best known for his wealth and high-profile connections.

He was often seen socialising with the rich and powerful, including US President Donald Trump, former President Bill Clinton and the UK's Prince Andrew.

Epstein was accused of paying girls under the age of 18 to perform sex acts at his Manhattan and Florida mansions between 2002-05. He was arrested on 6 July.

He avoided similar charges in a controversial deal in 2008, pleading guilty to a lesser charge of soliciting and procuring a minor for prostitution.

Israeli Foreign Minister Says Arms Embargoes Will Lead To 'Second Holocaust' & End Of Israel

Israel’s foreign minister has said that an arms embargo on his country would lead to the elimination of the Israeli state and "a second Holocaust".

Gideon Saar was speaking on Tuesday at an international conference on antisemitism in Jerusalem. "If, God forbid, the calls and actions of countries and politicians for an arms embargo on Israel succeed, the result will be the destruction of Israel and a second Holocaust," he said.

The comments came as Spain this week called on European countries to suspend arms shipments amid Israel’s ongoing siege on Gaza.

At a meeting of the “Madrid Group”, Spain’s foreign minister called for an immediate suspension of Europe’s cooperation deal with Israel and an embargo on arms shipments.

Germany, France, the UK, Italy, Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Morocco and Brazil were among those present at the meeting.

"What is the meaning of actions or statements - by politicians or countries - to impose an arms embargo on Israel?" said Saar, in response. "If such moves succeed, Israel will simply be destroyed. There will be another Holocaust - on the soil of the land of Israel."

"This is essentially a way to deprive the Jewish people of the means to defend themselves. Means that they so lacked during the long years of exile and during the Holocaust."

The largest suppliers of weapons to Israel are the United States, Germany and Italy. Several nations, including France, Spain and the UK, have either paused the supply of some weapons, or have suspended export licenses.

A report earlier this month found that the UK continued to send a wide range of arms to Israel even after the government suspended 30 arms export licenses in September.

The UK, France and Canada have threatened Israel with sanctions if it fails to stop its military operations in Gaza and immediately allow humanitarian aid to enter.

"We will not stand by while the Netanyahu government pursues these egregious actions," the countries said jointly on 20 May. "If Israel does not cease the renewed military offensive and lift its restrictions on humanitarian aid, we will take further concrete actions in response."

The close relationship between the United States and Europe transcends geographic proximity and transactional politics. It represents a unique bond forged in common culture, faith, familial ties, mutual assistance in times of strife, and above all, a shared Western civilizational heritage.

Our transatlantic partnership is underpinned by a rich Western tradition of natural law, virtue ethics, and national sovereignty. This tradition flows from Athens and Rome, through medieval Christianity, to English common law, and ultimately into America's founding documents. The Declaration's revolutionary assertion that men “are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights” echoes the thought of Aristotle, Thomas Aquinas, and other European heavyweights who recognized that all men possess natural rights that no government can arbitrate or deny. America remains indebted to Europe for this intellectual and cultural legacy.

This connection between Europe and the United States is also the reason we speak honestly when we disagree or have concerns—and is why the Trump Administration is sounding the alarm in Europe. When Vice President Vance addressed this year’s Munich Security Conference, he made the reason clear, stating: “What I worry about is the threat from within, the retreat of Europe from some of its most fundamental values—values shared with the United States of America.”

In the aftermath of two devastating world wars, European nations sought to prevent future catastrophes by creating supranational structures that would bind nations closer together and allow for more substantial diplomatic and economic engagements. Proponents of this new order, including well-meaning Christian and pro-democracy parties, sought a grand transformation—a world that would transcend the divisiveness of nationality and creed to usher in an era of unprecedented peace. By overcoming the anchors of nationhood, culture, and tradition, global liberalism promised what Francis Fukuyama famously called the “end of history,” the ultimate innovation of political life.

Today, this promise lies in tatters. What endures instead is an aggressive campaign against Western civilization itself. Across Europe, governments have weaponized political institutions against their own citizens and against our shared heritage. Far from strengthening democratic principles, Europe has devolved into a hotbed of digital censorship, mass migration, restrictions on religious freedom, and numerous other assaults on democratic self-governance.

These concerning trends have only increased in recent years. In the United Kingdom, police are arresting Christians—such as Adam Smith-Connor and Livia Tossici-Bolt—for silently praying outside of abortion clinics. In 2023, over 12,000 British citizens were arrested for online posts, including comments critical of Europe’s migration crisis, that authorities deemed to be “grossly offensive.”

In Germany, the government has established elaborate systems to monitor and censor online speech under the guise of combating disinformation and preventing offense. When German citizens express legitimate concerns about the economic and social impacts of globalization or criticize politicians, they risk being fined, labeled as radicals, or even having their homes raided by law enforcement. The European Union’s Digital Services Act, billed to protect children from harmful online content, is instead used to silence dissident voices through Orwellian content moderation. Independent regulators now police social media companies, including prominent American platforms like X, and threaten immense fines for non-compliance with their strict speech regulations.

This environment also restricts Europe’s elections. As recently highlighted by Secretary Rubio, the popular Alternative für Deutschland party was just labeled an “extremist” organization by German intelligence, which could lead to the party’s exclusion from the electoral process. Leading French presidential candidate Marine LePen was charged with embezzlement and, departing from standard procedure, immediately banned from running. Restrictions have likewise occurred in Poland and Romania against select political parties or politicians. Simultaneously, Christian nations like Hungary are unjustly labeled as authoritarians and human rights abusers.

Americans are familiar with these tactics. Indeed, a similar strategy of censorship, demonization, and bureaucratic weaponization was utilized against President Trump and his supporters. What this reveals is that the global liberal project is not enabling the flourishing of democracy. Rather, it is trampling democracy, and Western heritage along with it, in the name of a decadent governing class afraid of its own people.

Our concerns are not partisan but principled. There is only one solution, and it is not pretty.

The FBI does nothing these days for the ordinary American.

They have gigantic field offices which in some cases resemble a National Guard Armory. Look at the Sacramento Field office as an example.

You must close the FBI down. Move it from Washington DC, and I don't mean to Virginia or Maryland. Move it to North Dakota, or Nebraska. Some place where there is still a patriotic and law abiding citizenry,

Reopen and only accept new hires. Only recruit from sheriff departments, and perhaps, let the US Marshals help with the transition.

American academic returning to U.S. after Thai charges dropped

May 30 (UPI) - An American academic facing up to 15 years in a Thai prison on allegations of insulting the monarchy has been permitted to leave the country, according to a nonprofit that advocates for Americans imprisoned abroad.

Global Reach told UPI in an emailed statement that Paul Chambers was permitted to leave Thailand on Thursday after resolving what it called "false" lese-majeste charges.

"I am relieved that this situation has been resolved," Chambers said in a statement.

"I have always had great respect for the Thai royal family, and anyone who knows me understands that these charges were always based on false allegations by unnamed parties in the military."

Chambers, a Thai studies scholar and lecturer at Thailand's Naresuan University, was arrested and charged by Thai authorities in April following a complaint filed against him by the military over an October online post promoting a webinar that he was to participate in.

The English-language post was published on the website of Singapore's ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute. The academic webinar was on Thai studies, and Chambers, a leading expert on the Thai military and Southeast Asian politics, gave a talk about the Thai military.

India says over 1,000 nationals deported by US since January

"We have close cooperation between India and the United States on migration issues," Mr Jaiswal said during the ministry's weekly briefing, adding that India verifies nationalities before "we take them back".

In total, the US is said to have identified about 18,000 Indian nationals it believes entered the country illegally.

Earlier this month, the US Embassy in India issued a warning that overstaying in the US could lead to deportation or a permanent ban on entry in the country, even for those who entered legally.

"While we note that issuance of a visa is a sovereign function, we hope that the application of Indian students will be considered on merit, and they will be able to join their academic programs on time," Mr Jaiswal said.

Mr Jaiswal also said that 330,000 Indians students had gone to the US for studies in 2023-24 - which makes India the largest source of international students in the country.

President Trump and his team continue to fight a flood of lawsuits against the administration, which has consumed time and resources at every major federal agency as well as at the White House.

Since January, judges have entered a record 40 preliminary injunctions to halt executive orders and other policies central to Trump’s agenda. Democratic judges unsurprisingly appear to be the most brazenly anti-Trump – which is why the country dodged a bullet last year when Joe Biden abandoned his nomination of Adeel Mangi, a Muslim activist from New Jersey, to a post on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.

The seat, which once belonged to Justice Samuel Alito, remains open; the court handles federal appeals in Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and the Virgin Islands.

On Wednesday, the president announced his selection of Emil Bove, the current principal deputy attorney general, to fill the vacancy. “Emil is SMART, TOUGH, and respected by everyone,” Trump said in a Truth Social post on May 28. “He will end the Weaponization of Justice, restore the Rule of Law, and do everything else that is necessary to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. Emil Bove will never let you down!”

Bove, 44, represented the president in the state financial records case in New York City and the federal documents case in southern Florida where he successfully argued for the dismissal of the case, brought by Special Counsel Jack Smith, based on Smith’s unconstitutional appointment. In July 2024, Judge Aileen Cannon dropped the 40-count indictment against the president after concluding Smith’s position violated the Appointments Clause.

Bove recently made headlines when he stepped into the temporary role of running the Department of Justice awaiting the Senate confirmation of Attorney General Pam Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, his one-time law partner.

The New York native and Georgetown Law School graduate wasted no time starting to clean house; high-level prosecutors involved in the DOJ’s lawfare against Trump immediately were reassigned to a newly-formed “sanctuary cities” enforcement unit, prompting several to retire or resign.

Multiple senior FBI officials including the heads of the Miami and Washington field offices, which were involved in the August 2022 raid of Mar-a-Lago, also got the ax.

Bove then turned to the Biden DOJ’s sprawling Jan. 6 prosecution. He fired dozens of temporary assistant U.S. attorneys who had been hired to handle Jan. 6 prosecutions; the so-called “Capitol Siege” unit of the DOJ was shuttered following the president’s blanket pardon of nearly 1,600 J6 defendants on his first day in office.

Bove also launched an inquiry to gather information about FBI employees involved in the politically-motivated Jan. 6 investigation, the largest in the bureau’s history, but his efforts were met with internal resistance from high-level FBI officials. The interim FBI director, a placeholder prior to the confirmation of Kash Patel to head the agency, at first refused to cooperate in the inquiry, a move Bove described as “insubordination.” (A group representing FBI employees also filed a lawsuit in D.C. district court seeking to keep the information and identities of the respondents under seal.)

Devex’s Newswire reported today that with the Trump administration dead set on yanking most US funding to the United Nations, the world body is being forced to adapt to a constrained new fiscal reality – and the workforce is about to feel the squeeze.

In today’s global development newsletter presented by the International Monetary Fund (“IMF”), Devex’s Newswire highlighted the UN’s high cost of reform. Its newsletter states the following.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres recentlylaunched a new reform initiative, dubbed UN80. According to an internal memo, sent by the UN comptroller, it’s “an ambitious effort to ensure that the United Nations is fit for purpose to support twenty-first century multilateralism, reduce human suffering and build better lives and futures for all.”

That’s all well and good, but being “fit for purpose” actually translates into some serious downsizing for the UN in the face of potentially steep US cuts.

Specifically, Guterres is seeking to eliminate 20% of jobs across the UN Secretariat, which employs some 35,000 people, and to make a 20% reduction to the UN’s regular budget, which covers essential programmes and administration costs, and is currently set at just under $3.7 billion for 2026.

The internal memo instructed that by 13 June, dozens of senior UN officials need to report on how they can achieve the proposed cuts in their departments. It acknowledged the “aggressive timelines” of this “collective effort.”

But critics say that downsizing is being done too hastily.

The current quest for savings is just “about cuts,” Martin Griffiths, the former UN emergency relief coordinator, told Devex last week. “That’s not about reform. I think that’s wrong.”

“The letter asks for massive structural changes, with far-reaching consequences, to be decided within two weeks,” Ian Richards, head of the UN staff union in Geneva, tells my colleague Colum Lynch. “While providing some guidance, managers still have no idea how to implement this.”

“It’s not clear whether the SG [secretary-general] has really thought things through,” he adds.

The Australian government has announced that it wants to import 13.5 million migrants by 2065, averaging 235,000 additional migrants each year. That’s enough immigrants per year to keep the housing crisis scam going for the next 40 years.
