Today Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth ordered a department-wide review of existing standards set by U.S. military branches pertaining to physical fitness, body composition, and grooming, which includes but is not limited to beards.

"We must remain vigilant in maintaining the standards that enable the men and women of our military to protect the American people and our homeland as the world's most lethal and effective fighting force," Hegseth said.

"Our adversaries are not growing weaker, and our tasks are not growing less challenging. This review will illuminate how the Department has maintained the level of standards required over the recent past and the trajectory of any change in those standards," he added.

Bosnian authorities seek to jail the president, PM and parliament speaker of Republika Srpska

Bosnian prosecutors have issued arrest warrants for the president, prime minister, and parliament speaker of Republika Srpska, the predominantly-Serb region within Bosnia and Herzegovina. They are accused of having launched an “attack on the constitutional order” by enacting laws that restrict the operations of Bosnia’s state-level judiciary and law enforcement agencies.

Following a brutal civil war that pitted the former Yugoslav region’s ethno-religious groups against one another, Bosnia and Herzegovina was divided into two self-governing entities, the ethnically Serbian Republika Srpska and a federation run by Bosniaks (Bosnian Muslims) and Croats, under the US-brokered 1995 Dayton Agreement.

As part of this arrangement, the country is ruled by a three-member presidency – a Bosniak, a Serb, and a Croat – and includes an autonomous district at a key crossroads.

The warrants were issued despite Banja Luka, the administrative center of Serb-majority Republika Srpska, not recognizing the authority of the Sarajevo-based Prosecutor’s Office.

The country’s Prosecutor’s Office issued the order after Bosnian Serb President Milorad Dodik, Prime Minister Radovan Viskovic and Parliament Speaker Nenad Stevandic failed to respond to two summonses for questioning, Serb Republic television reported, citing the regional government.

A Sarajevo-based court last month sentenced Dodik to one year in prison and barred him from holding presidential office for six years for obstructing decisions made by Bosnia’s constitutional court and defying the authority of international envoy Christian Schmidt. A German national, Schmidt was formally tasked with overseeing the implementation of the 1995 Dayton Peace Agreement.

Dodik himself did not attend his sentencing and announced plans for the Republika Srpska National Assembly to reject the court’s decision and prohibit the enforcement of any rulings made by Bosnia’s state judiciary within its territory.

Bosnian Serb lawmakers passed legislation that bans the central judiciary and police from operating within Republika Srpska. Bosnia’s Constitutional Court temporarily suspended the laws on March 6, pending a final ruling, but Dodik insisted that the new laws must be implemented.

Radovan Kovacevic, the spokesman for Dodik’s party, the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats, denied that President Dodik or Republika Srpska had “attacked” Bosnia’s constitutional order.

“No one will arrest or can arrest the state leadership of Republika Srpska. Republika Srpska is not attacking the constitutional order; on the contrary, it is making decisions that it has the right to make, based on the constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska,” Kovacevic said.

Commenting on the move, Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vulin has asserted that Serbia will prevent the detention of Republika Srpska’s top officials and described the order by the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina as a continuous attempt at revenge against Dodik.

“This is revenge against Milorad Dodik and revenge against the Serbs,” Vulin claimed.

The Prosecutor’s Office has the authority to summon individuals for questioning up to two times. If they fail to comply, a detention order may be issued. If Dodik, Stevandic, and Vickovic resist detention, a national arrest warrant could follow

Top DHS border official charged with fraud against FEMA

DETROIT – A federal criminal complaint was unsealed today charging the Director of United States Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) Center for Excellence and Expertise over Automotive and Aerospace Engineering with engaging in a scheme to defraud the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and lying to federal agents, Acting United States Attorney Julie A. Beck announced.

Beck was joined in the announcement by Cheyvoryea Gibson, Special Agent in Charge of the Detroit Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and Daniel Altman, Executive Director of CBP’s Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR).

Serina Baker-Hill, 55, of Detroit, is a career employee of CBP. Following a series of floods in the Detroit area in August of 2023, Michigan’s request for a federal disaster declaration was approved, which allowed residents to apply for FEMA assistance. Baker-Hill applied for FEMA assistance for flood damage and a FEMA inspector determined there was damage to the basement in Baker-Hill’s home. During the inspection, Baker-Hill informed the inspector she was not able to live safely in the home while the repairs were being made. Consequently, FEMA approved benefits for Baker Hill to assist with home repairs and for two months of rental assistance. The approval letter from FEMA indicated that the rental assistance money was to be used solely to help Baker-Hill pay rent and essential utility costs while she was in temporary housing.

According to Baker-Hill’s bank records, none of the FEMA money was used for rental, hotel, or utility expenses. Video surveillance at the home showed that Baker-Hill and her husband continued to live in the home after receiving the rental assistance funds from FEMA. Additionally, records for the home do not show a significant drop in utilities consistent with the property being unoccupied during this time.

Baker-Hill was later interviewed by FBI and CBP-OPR agents and informed them that she has never committed illegal activity of any kind and had never defrauded the U.S. government.

A complaint is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. Trial cannot be held on felony charges in a complaint. When the investigation is completed, a determination will be made whether to seek a felony indictment.

The investigation of this case was conducted by the FBI’s Detroit Border Corruption Task Force and CBP-OPR. Investigative assistance was also provided by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security – Office of Inspector General. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Eaton P. Brown.

Russian forces strike Ukrainian troops from the rear in Kursk by moving through gas pipeline

Russian special forces walked inside a gas pipeline to strike Ukrainian units from the rear in the Kursk region, Ukraine’s military and Russian war bloggers reported, as Moscow claimed fresh gains in its push to recapture parts of the border province that Kyiv seized in a shock offensive.

Ukraine launched a daring cross-border incursion into Kursk in August, marking the largest attack on Russian territory since World War II. Within days, Ukrainian units had captured 1,000 square kilometers (386 square miles) of territory, including the strategic border town of Sudzha, and taken hundreds of Russian prisoners of war.

According to Kyiv, the operation aimed to gain a bargaining chip in future peace talks and to force Russia to divert troops away from its grinding offensive in eastern Ukraine.

But months after Ukraine’s thunder run, its soldiers in Kursk are weary and bloodied by relentless assaults of more than 50,000 troops, including some from Russian ally North Korea. Tens of thousands of Ukrainian soldiers are at risk of being encircled, open-source maps of the battlefield show.

According to Telegram posts late Saturday by a Ukrainian-born, pro-Kremlin blogger, Russian operatives walked about 15 kilometers (9 miles) inside the pipeline, which Moscow had until recently used to send gas to Europe. Some Russian troops spent several days in the pipe before striking Ukrainian units from the rear near Sudzha, blogger Yuri Podolyaka claimed.

The town had some 5,000 residents before the full-scale February 2022 invasion of Ukraine, and it houses major gas transfer and measuring stations along the pipeline, which was once a major outlet for Russian natural gas exports through Ukrainian territory.

Another war blogger, who uses the alias Two Majors, said fierce fighting was underway for Sudzha, and that Russian forces managed to enter the town through a gas pipeline. Russian Telegram channels showed photos of what they said were special forces operatives, wearing gas masks and moving along what looked like the inside of a large pipe.

Ukraine’s General Staff confirmed Saturday evening that Russian “sabotage and assault groups” used the pipeline in a bid to gain a foothold outside Sudzha. In a Telegram post, it said Russian troops were “detected in a timely manner” and that Ukraine responded with rockets and artillery.

“At present, Russian special forces are being detected, blocked and destroyed. The enemy’s losses in Sudzha are very high,” the General Staff reported.

A third Russian war blogger argued that the attacking force lacked the logistical backup to succeed.

“Food, water, ammunition, communications, charging electrical devices, power banks, the approach of the main forces, evacuating the wounded … Two or three groups in the rear without all this — that’s a disaster,” the blogger, who describes himself as a soldier with the call sign Thirteenth, wrote on Telegram.

The Associated Press could not independently verify the accounts.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported Sunday that its troops had taken four villages north and northwest of Sudzha, with the closest lying some 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) from the center of the town. The claim came a day after the ministry reported the capture of three more villages near Sudzha.

Ukraine did not immediately comment on the Russian claims.

In the ongoing general offensive of the Russian forces to dislodge the Ukrainians from their bridgehead at the Kursk region, crazy information has surfaced online saying that a hundred Red Army soldiers have passed through a gas pipeline to the rear of Kiev’s Forces positions in the Sudzha area.

The below is sourced from the Telegram channels Sputnik, Intel Slava Z, Lord Bebo, and Slavyangrad.

The Russian troops had been preparing for this operation for days, clearing the area where the troops would emerge with aerial bombs (FABs).

The troops crossed the underground pipes of the Urengoy-Pomary-Uzhgorod gas pipeline, through which the Russian Federation supplied gas to Europe through the territory of Ukraine until January 1, 2025. The diameter of one pipe is 1.4 meters.

The Russians had already performed a similar maneuver during the storming of Avdeevka.

Ukrainian Butusov’s channel: “Today, a breakthrough of enemy infantry was discovered in the area of the city of Sudzha – the Russians used a gas pipeline to transfer an assault company unnoticed by drones, and wedged themselves into our battle formations.”

This was only possible because Ukraine canceled gas transit to Europe through the Uzbgorod pipeline, which became empty and was used by the Russians to sneak up on the Ukrainian army’s rear.

Experts say new tranche of emails released by National Archives show U.S. information put at security risk.

Briefing materials for President Barack Obama, subjects and times for White House Situation Room meetings and discussions about sensitive conversations with foreign leaders and even fallout from leaked National Security Agency intercepts were forwarded to Joe Biden's private pseudonymous email accounts when he was vice president, according to a new tranche of documents turned over to Just the News by the National Archives.

Security experts and lawmakers, who reviewed the records, said they were disturbed by the nonchalant transmission of sensitive government information to Biden's insecure private email accounts and believed it put national security at risk.

“The new set of emails from Joe Biden's time as Vice President are very troubling and are more evidence that Biden believed he did not have to abide by classification and document handling regulations,” former CIA analyst and former Trump National Security Council chief of staff Fred Fleitz told Just the News.

Several hundred pages of emails from 2011 to 2015 were released to Just the News and its public interest law firm partner the Southeastern Legal Foundation as part on an ongoing Freedom of Information Act litigation.

They build on prior evidence that then-Vice President Biden was using the pseudonymous accounts for sensitive discussions with close advisors about official business ranging from domestic politics to sensitive foreign policy matters.

Just the News has not been able yet to determine if any of them were "classified," in part because many documents were redacted or withheld in their entirety except for subject line. For instance, one fully withheld email from January 19, 2015, includes the subject "The President's Briefing Materials."

Applicable federal regulations aren't limited to classified material, and instead strictly limit federal employees' use of commercial email to conduct government business.

As for the contents, each federal agency has its own definition of "sensitive." The U.S. Air Force, for example calls it "controlled unclassified information" in a memo about email, while the U.S. Department of Labor is even more restrictive, directing federal employees to "NOT use your personal email or social media accounts for official matters. This raises record-keeping issues and potentially puts confidential information at risk."

"He didn't care about document security"

Security experts say the use of a private email for government business, which is restricted by federal regulations, opens the door for adversaries to gather intelligence on the key decision makers and represents an entirely preventable breach. That, coupled with Biden's admitted storage of classified documents at his home, raises concerns.

“Just like the classified documents Biden stored in his garage and home office, he again proved he didn't care about document security," Fleitz said. "Biden's use of a gmail alias email address for work-related emails (robinware45@gmail.com) put sensitive government emails on gmail servers where they could easily have been hacked.”

Fleitz reviewed about two dozen emails pulled from the collection by Just the News and said, “I am concerned that the text of at least eight of the emails was withheld, probably due to classified content.”

Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wisc., the chairman of the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, said the Archives stonewalled his earlier effort to probe Biden's private emails and vowed to get to the bottom of whether any laws were broken.

“Over the last several years, Senator Grassley and I pressed the Biden White House and the National Archives for information and records on Joe Biden’s use of pseudonyms and personal email addresses for official government business,” Johnson told Just the News. “The Biden administration failed to respond to those requests.

“The public deserves to know what Joe Biden received and sent in his official capacity on his non-government email accounts, whether his actions jeopardized national security, and if he violated any federal record-keeping and archival requirements,” he said

Nearly all federal agencies prohibit or restrict government employees from using private emails to ensure compliance with the Federal Records Act, the law that requires federal records to be preserved and available for public inspection. If officials do use private email for their work, they are obligated to forward the information to their work accounts to ensure their preservation.

Hidden graves of at least 200 people found at 'extermination site'

The Mexican government announced Tuesday it will conduct an extensive investigation after a civilian activist group unearthed a criminal organization's clandestine grave site.

Video footage filmed by March 5 showed searchers digging through the grounds of the property in Teuchitlán, a municipality in the western state of Jalisco.

The discovery was made after the Guerreros Buscadores collective of Jalisco – volunteers searching for their missing family members – received an anonymous call.

The haunting video showed at least 400 pairs of footwear strewn across a room.

Clothing items, luggage bags and backpacks were also visible that would have belonged to the victims, who at one point were kidnapped and massacred at the death camp known as Izaguirre Ranch, which was allegedly run by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

Among the findings was a notebook with one page that featured the nicknames of 54 victims – the criminals apparently listed the names in groups of 10.

The searchers also located a bible that contained three photos of a child.

'These photos found at the Teuchitlán ranch may be a sign of hope for some family,' the collective said. 'Mom or dad was carrying them, and they were found nestled in the middle of a Bible.

'It's a photo that moves us and fills us with sadness to think that the last thing that person probably saw was a photo of their son, praying to God for his life so they could return to see and hold this little one.'

They also discovered a letter written by one of the victims, who was later identified as Eduardo Lerma.

'My love, if one day I never return, I only ask that you remember how much I love you and say, 'My anger, tantrum, and jealousy are gone.' JGL,' wrote Lerma, who would have turned 23 on May 2.

He had been missing since February 26, 2024, after he was kidnapped in San Juan de los Lagos, Guanajuato, according to online news outlet Infobae.

The discovery once again raised concerns in a country were more than 120,000 have been reported missing.

Authorities raided the property in September 2024 and found one dead body. The site was raided again in January. In all around thirty people ,who were allegedly victims of forced recruitment, were arrested and later released.

Mexican Attorney General Alejandro Gertz took the podium during President Claudia Sheinbaum's daily press conference and said that his office will investigate the site.

'This is a very critical and serious issue,' Gertz said.

'It is unbelievable that a situation of this nature would not have been known to the local authorities of that municipality and the state.'

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Wednesday ordered a department-wide review of existing standards for each military branch on physical fitness, body composition, and grooming — including on beards, Breitbart News has exclusively learned.

“We must remain vigilant in maintaining the standards that enable the men and women of our military to protect the American people and our homeland as the world’s most lethal and effective fighting force,” Hegseth said in a March 12, 2025, memorandum ordering the review.

“Our adversaries are not growing weaker, and our tasks are not growing less challenging. This review will illuminate how the Department has maintained the level of standards required over the recent past and the trajectory of any change in those standards,” he added.

Pentagon Press Secretary John Ullyot added in a statement to Breitbart News:

Unfortunately, the U.S. military’s high standards on body composition and other metrics eroded in recent years, particularly during the tenure of former Joint Chiefs Chairman Mark Milley, who set a bad example from the top through his own personal corpulence. Secretary Hegseth is committed to restoring high standards, and this review is the first step in doing so.

Hegseth directed the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness (USD(P&R)) to gather the existing aforementioned standards set by each military branch, review them and how they have changed over the last decade, since January 1, 2015.

The review will also look at why those standards changed and the impact of those changes.

Hegseth has made returning the military to its core mission of warfighting his top priority, which includes having forces ready and fit to fight.

Hegseth spoke about the importance of standards at his confirmation hearing in January, telling Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) that “ensuring that standards are equal and high is of importance to [the president] and great importance to me.”

“Because in those ground combat roles, what is true is that the weight of the ruck on your back does not change. The weight of the 155 round that you have to carry does not change. The weight of the 240-Bravo machine gun you might have to carry does not change,” he said.

“And so whether it is a man or a woman, they have to meet the same high standards. And Senator, in any place where those things have been eroded or in courses criteria have been changed in order to meet quotas — racial quotas or gender quotas — that is putting a focus on something other than readiness, standards, meritocracy, and lethality.”

He also expressed support for gender-neutral physical fitness standards according to the job, and not by any other determinant.

“The standards need to be the same, and they need to be high. And they need to be set by the people closest to the problem set, closest to the understanding of what is required by that job. Commanders, 10 commanding officers, and co-COMs and elsewhere who understand the reality of what face, that is the feedback we should get. That is what should be enshrined and enforced,” he said.

“And no other set of political prerogatives — when I talk about removing politics, ideological or political prerogatives — should contribute to those determinations. Nothing other than the execution of the mission.”

Since becoming defense secretary, Hegseth has highlighted the importance of physical fitness by carving time out during trips to conduct physical training with troops.

In Germany last month, he conducted PT with the 10th Special Forces Group. The photos from the session went viral.

Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George has ordered the Army to review all general officer memorandums of reprimand, or GOMORs, that were issued to soldiers related to the Biden administration’s coronavirus vaccine mandate, his spokesman Army Col. Dave Butler told Breitbart News.

George has personally reached out to some affected soldiers who were issued GOMORs, which is a career-damaging administrative punishment for serious misconduct, to inform them the Army was looking into their cases.

The Biden administration kicked out over 8,000 U.S. troops from the military over their refusal to take the emergency use authorized vaccine. Tens of thousands more are estimated to have left the military over the mandate.

Republicans in Congress eventually overturned the mandate in December 2022, which kicked out healthy troops during a historic recruitment crisis. The Pentagon officially ended the mandate in January 2023.

President Donald Trump issued an executive order directing that those troops who were kicked out over the mandate and wish to return to service be able to return to their previous ranks, with backpay and benefits.

However, there are some soldiers who are still serving who were punished with GOMORs over their resistance to the vaccine, including with GOMORs, and whose careers were harmed.

George’s order takes a step towards undoing the vast damage that was done by the mandate and repairing those careers.

Approximately 1,900 soldiers were forced out over the mandate. Butler told the Associated Press that more than half have been contacted by phone or email, and about 200 so far have expressed interest in returning to the service.

Under the Trump administration, recruitment numbers in the Army, Air Force and Navy have been going up, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has made recruitment one of his top priorities.

DOGE Cancels NIH Grants to Prevent Pregnancy in ‘Transgender Boys

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) cancelled several grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) on Tuesday, including over half a million dollars going to a “pregnancy prevention program for transgender boys.”

DOGE, led by tech mogul Elon Musk, revealed in a late night X post that NIH had just ended the following grants:

Among the most outlandish was a $620,000 grant for “an LGB+ inclusive teen pregnancy prevention program for transgender boys,” referring to biological girls who claim to be boys.

The health institute, which is part of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), was also spending about $700,000 to study cannabis use in “sexual minority gender diverse individuals,” $740,000 on examining “social networks” among “black and Latino sexual minority men in New Jersey,” $50,000 on assessing “sexual health” among “LGTBQ+ Latinx youth in an agricultural community,” and $75,000 on researching “structural racism,” DOGE stated.

The latest NIH grant cancellations come just a week after DOGE announced the cancellation of grants from the agency that were geared toward transgender experiments on animals, Breitbart News reported.

During President Donald Trump’s recent joint address before Congress, he went over a wide array of DOGE discoveries, including “…$8 million for making mice transgender.”

DOGE followed up the day after Trump’s speech, reporting that funding for such experiments had been cancelled.

European Union to Target Republican States With Tariffs in Trump Trade War

The European Union is reportedly seeking to put pressure specifically on Republican-controlled states as it enacts so-called retaliatory tariff measures on American businesses amid the trade war with the Trump administration.

As an order from U.S. President Donald Trump to impose global 25 per cent tariffs on aluminium and steel products, which are expected to impact an estimated €26 ($28) billion worth of EU exports to America, Brussels announced on Wednesday a package of countermeasures covering about the same in American exports to the bloc.

According to the Associated Press, EU officials admitted that their tariffs would be “aimed at products made in Republican-held states,” including meat produced in Kansas and Nebraska and lumber products from Alabama and Georgia. The bloc will also impose levies against American bourbon whiskey and Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

While President Trump is not up for re-election and, therefore, does not need to worry about personal political ramifications, Brussels appears to be banking that impacted local Republican politicians and lawmakers in Washington, many of whom will face re-election next year, will put pressure on the White House to back down.

Announcing the measures, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said: “We deeply regret this measure. Tariffs are taxes. They are bad for business, and even worse for consumers. These tariffs are disrupting supply chains. They bring uncertainty for the economy.”

“Jobs are at stake. Prices will go up. In Europe and in the United States.”

It comes as Eurostat revealed that under the final year of the Biden presidency, America’s trade imbalance with the EU rose to €198.2 ($216.2) billion, up from €155.8 ($170) billion in 2023.

President Trump has argued that tariffs, in conjunction with tax cuts and deregulation, will play a critical role in reshoring industries back to the United States after previous decades of globalisation have seen communities across America devastated as corporations fled to cheap labour regions in Asia, South America, and elsewhere with little to no financial repercussions from Washington.

In the first month of his second term in the White House, Trump has pointed to companies such as Apple, Honda, Oracle, and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) investing hundreds of billions of dollars into increasing production in the United States to avoid tariffs as evidence of the effectiveness of his strategy.

While the Europeans have attempted to cast their measures as “retaliatory” to Trump’s tariffs, it would be more accurate to describe Trump’s tariffs as being retaliatory to longstanding tariffs and other trade barriers imposed on American goods by Brussels to protect its internal single market from competition from U.S. companies.

“We have massive deficits with the EU… They don’t take our farm product, they don’t take our cars… How many Chevrolets or Fords do you see in the middle of Munich? The answer is none. The EU has abused the United States for years, and they can’t do that,” Trump remarked last month.

In addition to incentivising companies to bring production to America, the Trump administration’s tariff strategy also appears to have geopolitical aims, namely to see supposed allies such as the European Union decrease their dependencies on antagonistic states such as Communist China—Europe’s top importer—and Putin’s Russia, long one of the bloc’s top energy suppliers.

Following Trump’s election victory in November, EU Chief von der Leyen suggested that the bloc could replace Russian gas imports — which outweighed the money the EU spent on funding Ukraine last year — with American Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) to redress the large trade imbalance with the United States.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei responded Wednesday to remarks made by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Iran, including a threat Trump issued last week against Tehran.

Trump said he had sent a letter to Khamenei offering negotiations on a nuclear deal but warned that there were "two ways" to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons—"a military option or reaching an agreement." On Wednesday afternoon, Tehran confirmed it had received the letter via the United Arab Emirates.

"When the U.S. president says he is ready to negotiate with us, it is a deception of public opinion," Khamenei said. "There is no point in negotiating when we know the other side does not uphold its commitments. Trump's call for talks is an attempt to appear as if he seeks dialogue and peace while portraying Iran as the one rejecting it."

Khamenei also issued a warning to Trump, saying, "The U.S. threatens military action, but that would not be a wise move because Iran would respond with a counterattack. They say they will not allow Iran to possess nuclear weapons," he said, adding, "If we wanted to obtain nuclear weapons, the U.S. would not be able to stop us. But we do not seek nuclear weapons, and we have explained our reasons for this before."

However, Khamenei’s assertion that Iran does not want nuclear weapons contradicts findings in reports by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) regarding the Islamic Republic’s nuclear activities.

"Iran does not seek war," Khamenei said, "but if the Americans or their agents make a mistake, Iran's response will be decisive, and the U.S. will be the main loser."

Over the weekend, Trump told reporters at the White House: "The next thing you'll be talking about is Iran—what's going to happen with Iran—that’s all I can say. We are in the final stages with Iran. It's going to be interesting."

He added, "Soon you’ll be discussing it, and I hope we can reach a peace agreement. I'm not speaking from a position of strength or weakness—I’m just saying I would prefer a peace deal over the alternative. But the alternative would solve the problem."

On Saturday, in his first response to Trump’s remarks, Khamenei said, "There are bully states that insist on negotiations not to resolve problems but to impose their demands. For them, negotiations are just a way to extract further concessions, and this goes beyond Iran’s nuclear program. Tehran will categorically reject their demands."

A New York City hotel has received a federal grand jury subpoena requesting the identities of migrants and testimony connected to alleged violations of federal immigration law after the Trump administration said this week it is launching a review of organizations that provide temporary housing and aid to migrants.

The Department of Justice subpoena, issued by the office of the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, was sent to the Hotel Chandler on Wednesday, reports The New York Times on Thursday.

It seeks information about the shelter program, a "list of full names of aliens currently residing at Hotel Chandler," and their nationalities, identification numbers, and birth dates, as well as the identifications of those who are responsible "for the funding and management of the illegal immigrant/migrant shelter program."

It also demanded grand jury testimony and evidence connected to an "alleged violation" of federal immigration law.

The Trump administration said in a letter dated Tuesday that it is launching a review of organizations providing temporary housing and aid to migrants, citing a law used to prosecute smugglers, reports The Associated Press.

Acting FEMA Administrator Cameron Hamilton wrote in the letter that the Department of Homeland Security has "significant concerns" that federal money used to address migration under former President Joe Biden had been used for illegal activities.

Hamilton's letter asks those receiving money from FEMA's Shelter and Services Program to provide the names and contact information of the migrants who were served.

It also seeks a "detailed and descriptive list of specific services provided" within 30 days and said funding will be withheld while the review goes on.

The Chandler, located on East 31st Street, however, was converted into a homeless shelter years ago and not as a shelter for immigrants, reports The Times.

It was not clear Wednesday if other hotels received subpoenas.

Nicholas Biase, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's office issuing the subpoena, referred any questions to the DOJ in Washington. A spokesman there would not comment on what he called an "ongoing criminal investigation."

New York City itself had not received a subpoena as of Wednesday, according to a city official speaking on the condition of anonymity. The city houses about 43,000 migrants in shelters and converted hotels.

The mayor's office would not comment on the matter, noting it does not comment on federal investigations.

The city has multimillion-dollar contracts with more than 100 hotels in its efforts to house nearly a quarter-million migrants who have come to the city since early 2022.

President Donald Trump's administration has often criticized New York City's migrant shelter system, with the sanctuary city becoming a target for immigration crackdowns.

The administration last month clawed back $80.5 million in Federal Emergency Management Funds from city bank accounts that had been meant to cover some of the expenses of paying hotels for sheltering minors.

A federal judge in Manhattan earlier this month denied a motion from the city for a temporary restraining order that would have required the Trump administration to return the money, which had been abruptly seized.

The federal government had singled out the Midtown Roosevelt Hotel, calling it a safe haven for gangs. New York City officials said shortly after that the hotel would be shut down by June and that there was a sharp decline in migrants coming to the city.

Poland's President Andrzej Duda again called on the United States to deploy nuclear weapons to Poland as a deterrent to Russia, the latest indication that the frontline NATO nation is increasingly considering nuclear protection as fears of Russia grow.

Duda made his appeal in an interview with the Financial Times published on Thursday, repeating an appeal he made to the Biden administration in 2022.

Duda's adviser for international affairs, Wojciech Kolarski, followed up on Duda's appeal with an interview on Poland's RMF FM radio Thursday morning in which he argued that nuclear protection would improve security for Poland, a NATO member along the alliance's eastern flank that shares borders with Ukraine, Belarus and the Russian territory of Kaliningrad.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk, a political opponent of Duda's, said last week that Poland was in talks with France concerning President’s Emmanuel Macron’s proposal to use France’s nuclear deterrent to protect the continent from Russian threats. Moscow called that idea “extremely confrontational.”

Tusk made his comment to parliament after Macron said he has decided to open a “strategic debate” on using France’s nuclear deterrent to protect European allies amid concerns over potential U.S. disengagement. The French president described Moscow as a “threat to France and Europe” in a televised address to the nation.

France is the only nuclear power in the European Union.
