Grassley, Johnson Release Records Showing FBI Obtained Trump, Pence Cell Phones, Conducted Sweeping Interviews to Advance Anti-Trump Arctic FrostInvestigation

WASHINGTON – In a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations Chairman Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) made public legally protected whistleblower disclosures showing the FBI, as part of its Arctic Frost investigation, acquired the government cell phones of President Donald Trump and former Vice President Mike Pence, among other government officials. FBI agents used taxpayer dollars to crisscross the country and conduct dozens of interviews in support of the political probe.

The unclassified FBI records convey the alarming scope and speed of the FBI’s 2022 investigation of President Trump, which they dubbed “Operation Arctic Frost.” The investigation – launched by anti-Trump FBI agent Timothy Thibault in a breach of FBI protocol – formed the basis of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s elector case against Trump. Upon opening the investigation, Thibault vowed it would be “prioritized over all others in the Branch” and commented that “it frankly took too long for us to open this [investigation].”

“Sunshine is the best disinfectant,” the chairmen wrote to Bondi and Patel. “The American people deserve to know the complete extent of the corruption within the DOJ and FBI that led to the investigation into President Trump. We are making this information public for purposes of public accountability and to provide specific examples of past behavior at your institutions that must not be repeated. Quite simply, the public has a right to know what happened in Arctic Frost and, based on what we’ve exposed to date, the American public deserves better from its law enforcement agencies. It is important that every individual at your agencies maintains the highest level of professionalism, and does not allow political bias to motivate or guide their investigative work.”

Within weeks of opening Arctic Frost on April 13, 2022, FBI agents began taking aggressive action to build out their case. The following is a summary of some Arctic Frost investigatory updates, based on unclassified internal FBI records:

Update 1 (April 22-25, 2022):

FBI begins scheduling over a dozen interviews in coordination with 13 FBI field offices.

DOJ and FBI begin the process of acquiring Trump and Pence’s government phones, which were in the Biden White House’s possession.

Update 2 (May 2-3, 2022):

FBI begins analyzing communications between Trump team members and Republican electors.

FBI meets with Justice Department (DOJ) officials to discuss possible search warrants for the Trump and Pence cell phones.

Update 3 (May 10, 2022):

FBI attempts to contact individuals in states throughout the country to schedule interviews.

Update 4 (May 13-17, 2022):

FBI obtains Trump and Pence’s government phones and enters them into evidence for the case.

FBI interviews the first Trump administration’s Deputy White House Counsel.

Additional interviews are planned with Trump administration officials, including employees from the Offices of the President and Vice President, DOJ and former Director of National Intelligence Director John Ratcliffe.

DOJ and FBI begin discussing the possibility of merging the DOJ Office of Inspector General (OIG) investigation, which included former Acting Assistant Attorney General (AAG) for the Civil Division, Jeffrey Clark, with the FBI’s Arctic Frost investigation.

DOJ OIG makes plans to seek search warrants for phones associated with former AAG Jeffrey Clark, John Eastman, Mark Meadows and Ken Klukowski.

Update 5 (May 21-24, 2022):

FBI makes the decision to add former AAG Jeffrey Clark to the Arctic Frost investigation.

FBI drafts a search warrant for the Trump and Pence cell phones in its possession.

Plans continue for additional interviews with former Trump administration officials.

Update 6 (May 27, 2022):

FBI plans to conduct approximately 50 interviews, coupled with subpoenas, across at least seven states during the week of June 20, 2022. Interviews are set to take place with those who “signed and/or mailed the certificates in each state, as well as the Trump Campaign’s Directors of Election Day Operations for the relevant states, and certain GOP officials who are believed to have facilitated the scheme by communicating with individuals associated with the Trump campaign and the ‘fraudulent’ or ‘alternate’ electors.”

The DOJ OIG investigation that includes Jeffrey Clark is formally merged with the FBI Arctic Frost investigation, providing FBI access to phones and email accounts from a variety of DOJ officials, including former Attorney General Bill Barr.

Resources and Staffing

Over the course of just four days in June 2022, the FBI Arctic Frost team spent approximately $16,000 in taxpayer-funded travel to “conduct more than 40 interviews, serve subpoenas and execute several cellular device search warrants.”

The Nevada man accused of plotting a third assassination attempt on President Donald Trump has filed a $100 million defamation lawsuit against Riverside County, several outlets reported on Thursday.

Vem Miller was arrested while heading to a Trump rally in California’s Coachella Valley on Oct.12, 2024. He faced charges of possession of an unregistered shotgun, a loaded handgun and a high-capacity magazine.

Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco prematurely claimed that his deputies had “probably” foiled a third plot to kill Trump. The former president—who went on to win the presidential election—narrowly escaped two assassination attempts in July and September.

Miller, who suggested Bianco’s comments were based on a fallacy, described himself as a Trump supporter and said he wanted to see the former president at his rally.

Miller claimed he voluntarily told deputies he had the guns in his car—but said he was ignorant of California’s gun laws as the reason for transporting them. He subsequently pleaded guilty to misdemeanor weapons charges.

“There was an assassination that happened on that day,” Miller said. “And it really was my character.”

In an interview with Fox 11, Miller added, “It’s a necessary step because you have a sheriff here that thought via character assassination that he could build a reputation for himself for his governor run. And this is something that should simply not occur, that somebody in a powerful position like that gets to destroy somebody’s life and reputation for his own personal gain.”

Miller defended his lawsuit, claiming Bianco’s false statements have destroyed his life and prompted death threats.

“My parents are deeply traumatized by this,” he continued. “I’ve had just consistent threats, innuendos via social media, via text message, sometimes on a daily level. And I’ve just had to alter how I do things. Like even at the press conference today, it was just unnerving to be back in Riverside and just having to watch my back consistently all the time.”

I was going to wait until Monday for this but things are developing rapidly so I must inform the public now in a series of tweets. Here is what’s happening:

On Tuesday (SOTU) a House staffer gained entry into one of the House office buildings that leads to the U.S. Capitol. That staffer was in possession of a gun. He was eventually caught and arrested. What makes the problem even worse I’m told the staffer asked (after his arrest) what the problem was with this as no one said anything to him about him bringing the gun in the previous day.

This is the fourth instance of a gun being brought in a building policed by USCP Chief J Thomas Manger since Trump was elected President. What is frightening to me is that both dates that President Trump attended events at the Capitol it was on a date where a gun made it in one of the buildings and

I’m told one of the guns made it in a room where President Trump was actually in and only feet away from him.

This can’t happen!!! I’m still getting more information on this and I’ll have another tweet tomorrow.

WASHINGTON – In a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations Chairman Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) made public legally protected whistleblower disclosures showing the FBI, as part of its Arctic Frost investigation, acquired the government cell phones of President Donald Trump and former Vice President Mike Pence, among other government officials. FBI agents used taxpayer dollars to crisscross the country and conduct dozens of interviews in support of the political probe.

The unclassified FBI records convey the alarming scope and speed of the FBI’s 2022 investigation of President Trump, which they dubbed “Operation Arctic Frost.” The investigation – launched by anti-Trump FBI agent Timothy Thibault in a breach of FBI protocol – formed the basis of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s elector case against Trump. Upon opening the investigation, Thibault vowed it would be “prioritized over all others in the Branch” and commented that “it frankly took too long for us to open this [investigation].”

“Sunshine is the best disinfectant,” the chairmen wrote to Bondi and Patel. “The American people deserve to know the complete extent of the corruption within the DOJ and FBI that led to the investigation into President Trump. We are making this information public for purposes of public accountability and to provide specific examples of past behavior at your institutions that must not be repeated. Quite simply, the public has a right to know what happened in Arctic Frost and, based on what we’ve exposed to date, the American public deserves better from its law enforcement agencies. The Senate passed a six-month spending bill on Friday hours before a government shutdown, overcoming sharp Democratic opposition to the measure and sending it to President Donald Trump to be signed into law.

The vote was 54-46. Democrats voiced frustration that Republicans went ahead with a measure they said included little input from them, and one they viewed as shortchanging key priorities such as health care and housing assistance. But in the end, some of them viewed a shutdown as a worse outcome and supported Democratic leader Chuck Schumer's effort to allow the bill to come to a final vote.

Democrats were confronted with two painful options: allowing passage of a bill they believe gives President Donald Trump vast discretion on spending decisions or voting no and letting a funding lapse ensue.

Schumer gave members of his caucus days to vent their frustration about the options before them, but abruptly switched course and made clear on the eve of voting that he will not allow a government shutdown. His move outraged many in the party who want to fight the Trump agenda, but gave senators room to side with Republicans and allow the continuing resolution, often described as a CR, to advance.

Democrats from all corners looked to pressure senators to kill the bill. House members wrote letters, posted on social media and held press conferences in the hours before the vote.

“The American people sent Democrats to Congress to fight against Republican dysfunction and chaos,” said a letter from 66 House Democrats to Schumer.

House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries and his team dashed back to the Capitol urging senators to block the bill and negotiate a true compromise with Republicans.

Some Democrats also argued that Republicans would take the blame for a shutdown, given they controlled all the levers of power in Congress and the White House.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem issued a firm statement on the case, reinforcing that America is under no obligation to host individuals who engage in radical, anti-American protests.

“It is a privilege to be granted a visa to live & study in the United States of America. And the cleanup doesn’t stop there. Griff Jenkins also reported that DHS sources confirmed another Columbia protester, Legaa Kordia, a student from the West Bank, was arrested by ICE agents on March 13th for immigration violations related to his student visa.

Notably, Kordia was previously arrested in April 2024 for participating in pro-Hamas protests at Columbia University. HSI Newark officers took him into custody.

In January 2025, President Donald Trump signed an executive order aimed at combating antisemitism, which includes provisions to deport non-citizen students participating in pro-Palestinian protests on university campuses.

This order directs federal agencies to utilize legal tools to prosecute, remove, or hold accountable individuals engaging in antisemitic harassment and violence.

A notable case under this directive is that of Mahmoud Khalil, a Palestinian activist and legal permanent resident involved in pro-Palestinian protests at Columbia University. Khalil was arrested by federal immigration authorities, due to his association with Hamas, a designated terrorist organization.

In December, reports emerged that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Archewell Foundation donated $250,000 to Women’s Wellness (Spa)ce, a women’s wellness center in Philadelphia founded by Ashley Biden, daughter of President Joe Biden.

Now, a government watchdog has filed a complaint with the IRS over the foundation’s failure to disclose the 2023 donation. At the time of the contribution, Joe Biden was still serving as president.

The National Legal and Policy Center (NLPC), a conservative watchdog group, accused the Philadelphia-based organization, which describes itself as a “trauma-informed wellness center,” of violating financial reporting regulations.

Ashley Biden’s nonprofit failed to report the $250,000 donation from Archewell in its 2023 tax filings, prompting the NLPC to file an IRS complaint.

NLPC legal counsel Paul Kamenar called the omission a “clear violation” and questioned whether Ashley Biden’s reported 40-hour workweek at $12.75 per hour was exaggerated. He urged the IRS to investigate potential penalties.

The wellness center, which Ashley founded in 2023, reported $170,296 in revenue that year—making the Archewell donation a significant portion of its funding. Kamenar also raised concerns about “the political implications” of Harry and Meghan’s financial support.

IRS filings are submitted under penalty of perjury, and neither Archewell nor Women’s Wellness (Spa)ce has responded to requests for comment.

Kamenar stated that “the large contribution raised eyebrows because of the political implications of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s attempts to ingratiate themselves with President Biden and his family.”

In the complaint, the NLPC argues that “a full audit of Ashley Biden’s group is warranted to determine where the $250,000 cash grant was deposited and its disposition.”

Kamenar told the DailyMail that he had “no idea” why the donation was missing from public records. While acknowledging the possibility of an “innocent” accounting mistake, he insisted the situation was a “red flag” requiring further scrutiny.

The IRS complaint also highlights inconsistencies in Women’s Wellness (Spa)ce’s filings, pointing out that the organization reported having eight board members but listed only seven.

Financial records show Ashley Biden was reported as working 40 hours per week but earned just $11,250 from July through the end of the year. That amounts to approximately $511 per week, or $12.75 per hour—comparable to entry-level fast food wages in Philadelphia.

The complaint questions the accuracy of her reported workload, stating: “While Ms. Biden’s pay is low for her educational and work experience (we) believe that her reported 40-hour work week may have been exaggerated since she was engaged in politically related and other activities, including foreign travel with her mother (Jill Biden).”

Ashley Biden, born in 1981, is the daughter of President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. A social worker, activist, and fashion designer, she previously worked in Delaware’s child services system for 15 years and later served as executive director of the Delaware Center for Justice, where she focused on criminal justice reform.

An Impact Report obtained by PEOPLE described her initiative: “Drawing from her experience with the criminal justice system, Biden’s initiative is inspired by her work with Mural Arts’ Women’s Reentry Program, providing support and opportunities for formerly incarcerated women. The center aims to offer a safe haven and community for women impacted by trauma, providing resources such as nutritious food, exercise, meditation, and therapeutic interventions.”

Ukrainian troops forced out of Kursk fear Vladimir Putin knew the US would cut military aid and intelligence sharing, a top commander has said.

Lieutenant Colonel Vano Nadiradze cannot ‘shake off the feeling’ as Moscow appeared primed and captured key villages in the territory within hours of the decision.

But despite the setback, Volodymyr Zelensky’s popularity has ‘sky rocketed’ on the front since his showdown with Donald Trump in the Oval Office.

The special forces officer also vowed that Ukraine will fight on with or without US aid as he slammed Elon Musk as ‘not stable’ and ‘widely hated’.

Lt Col Nadiradze and his men were among 1,000 soldiers who took swathes of the Russian region in a daring counter-offensive last August.

They forced Russia to divert its best fighters and employ North Korean troops to try and eject them from the 390 square miles they seized for over seven months.

It relieved pressure from the rest of the front and it was hoped the land would be a key bargaining chip in the peace negotiations.

But after President Trump paused military aid and intelligence sharing two weeks ago, Russia has now forced them to retreat from most of the territory.

Acne creams from retailers including Walgreens, La Roche-Posay and Proactiv have been voluntarily recalled due to elevated levels of a potentially cancer-causing agent.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a recall notice Tuesday for several lots of six products,including Walgreens Acne Control Cleanser, Proactiv Skin Smoothing Exfoliator, SLMD Benzoyl Peroxide Acne Lotion and La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo Dual Action Acne Treatment.

The FDA said the products are being recalled for"possible benzene contamination."

Benzene is a chemical used often to make a range of products in the U.S. including detergents, dyes and drugs, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Long-term exposure to high levels of benzene in the air can cause leukemia, or cancer of the blood-forming organs, according to the CDC.

In its recall notice, the FDA stressed that the skin care products being voluntarily recalled carry a "very low" risk of causing cancer.
