Sen. Hawley says FBI interfered in 2 US elections: ‘Somebody should go to jail’

In a comment to reporters on Tuesday, Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) accused the FBI of interfering in two consecutive U.S. presidential elections and said “somebody should go to jail for all of this.”

Hawley’s press secretary Abigail Marone tweeted a clip of Hawley’s comments to the press.

Hawley offered his comments after recent rounds of the “Twitter Files” detailed the extensive ties between the FBI and Twitter and showed the FBI’s efforts to forewarn Twitter about a Russian “hack and leak operation” involving then-candidate Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden. The FBI’s warnings about such a “hack and leak operation” came ahead of the New York Post publishing a series of articles based on the laptop. Twitter acted quickly to censor those New York Post articles based on the belief that the materials violated their “hacked materials policy.”

In Part 7 of the “Twitter Files” series, journalist Michael Shellenberger noted that the FBI had collected evidence in December of 2019 from a Delaware computer repair shop that possessed Hunter Biden’s alleged laptop. Nine months later, in August of 2020, the computer repair shop owner still hadn’t heard back from the FBI about the materials they had taken from his possession.

The files also included a portion of a legal statement by Twitter’s then-Head of Site Integrity Yoel Roth, who described multiple in-person meetings with FBI officials who warned him about potential 2020 election “hack-and-leak operations” including rumors that one of the operations “would involve Hunter Biden.”

On Oct. 13, 2020, Hunter Biden and his lawyer became aware that the New York Post would publish a story based on the laptop. That same day, an FBI agent contacted Roth notifying Roth that he would send along some documents and asking Roth to confirm receiving them once they arrived.

When the New York Post did publish its article on the alleged laptop materials on Oct. 14, 2020, Roth said the article “isn’t clearly violative of our Hacked Materials Policy, nor is it clearly in violation of anything else” to which former FBI employee turned Twitter legal counsel James Baker said “it is reasonable for us to assume that [laptop materials in the New York Post article] may have been [hacked] and that caution is warranted” adding “there are some facts that indicate that the materials may have been hacked.”

Twitter eventually locked the newspaper’s account and blocked users from sharing links to the Biden laptop articles in a move Roth recently admitted was a mistake.

New government to invest 1.4 billion shekel in olim from France and the US

Sofer insisted on this budget since his party, the Religious Zionist Party (RZP) seeks to promote more aliyah from Western countries.

According to coalition agreement details obtained by The Jerusalem Post, incoming Aliyah and Absorption Minister Ofir Sofer will have a budget of up to NIS 350 million per year that “will be allocated for the purpose of programs to encourage the aliyah of young Jews from the US and France.”

This adds up to NIS 1.4 billion during the assumed four-year term of prime minister-designate Benjamin Netanyahu’s government.

Sofer insisted on this budget since his party, the Religious Zionist Party (RZP), is focused on promoting more aliyah from Western countries. A majority of the olim coming from these countries are Jewish and trained in professions that are useful for the Israeli economy. The RZP sees olim from these communities in Israel as natural constituents for their party: A large percentage of olim from France and the US are orthodox and politically conservative.

Differences between olim from different countries

According to the agreement, the government will also try to equalize the conditions of the olim of Bnei Menashe in India with those of olim from Ethiopia and other third-world countries.

Descendants of Bnei Menashe tribes are required to convert after they arrive in Israel, as are Ethiopian olim, but are not entitled to budgets and conditions like they are.

Ethiopian olim also receive financial support and extra funding for a variety of activities. Bnei Menashe immigrants, most of whom have a difficult time integrating into Israeli society, currently have a high unemployment rate.

The government is also expected to “promote the vision of Ethiopian Jews in Israel,” and will seek to “empower rabbis and leaders who grew up in religious Zionist circles within the Beta Israel community throughout the country and will assist in the continued absorptions of [Ethiopian] immigrants in Israel.” The agreement doesn’t specify the funds that will be invested.

The agreement also states that the government will “adjust the budget of the various relevant programs in the ‘flexible budget’ to the scope of the immigrants in 2022.”

This flexible budget is about NIS 500 million. Since the rates of aliyah have more than doubled in 2022, the new minister wishes to alter the budget in order to be able to offer these new olim the services they’re entitled to, but also have their needs fit into the regular budget that will need to be expanded because of the large wave of aliyah.

In addition, in the years 2023-2026, an amount of no less than NIS 350 million per year will be allocated, for the purpose of promoting programs to encourage young immigrants from the US and France.

The RZP has also demanded to have the government promote a religious Zionist candidate to be chief rabbi. They will also promote a new Kashrut Law, that will be different and more strict than the one of the outgoing government.

A description of Donald Trump's presidency in a University of Wisconsin-Madison professor's course syllabus has set off the latest debate over academic freedom and political bias on university campuses.

In his course description, political science professor Kenneth Mayer terms the Trump presidency the most “unconventional presidency in American history, with a president who gleefully flouts the norms of governing and presidential behavior that have structured the office since George Washington.”

He continues by saying that Trump supporters “rejoice in his contempt for what they insist is a corrupt D.C. establishment. If elites are against it, Trump’s supporters are for it.”

McKenna Collins, a senior studying communication arts who signed up for "The American Presidency" class, said the description left her feeling intimidated and excluded. She shared her discontent on Facebook, attracting national attention and more than 400 shares of her post.

“It really sets a tone for a negative, biased semester before we, as students, even set foot in the classroom,” Collins said.

The attention prompted Rep. Dave Murphy, R-Greenville, to write a letter to Mayer, copied to the UW System Board of Regents, System President Ray Cross, UW-Madison Chancellor Rebecca Blank and members of the Legislature's Joint Finance Committee and several other legislative committees.

Murphy, chairman of the Assembly Committee on Colleges and Universities, said that although he is an advocate for academic freedom, he was shocked by the “politically polarized characterization of the Trump presidency” used in the syllabus.

“Students who identify as Trump supporters will be encouraged to parrot liberal views that you clearly sympathize with or remain silent in an attempt to mask their conservative opinions,” Murphy wrote.

Murphy, who in 2016 criticized UW-Madison for adding a course called "The Problem of Whiteness," called for Mayer to invite a member of the Trump administration to speak with his students.

MADISON, Wis. — Unrest in Washington, D.C. Wednesday is unprecedented in U.S. history, but to one professor of political science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison it wasn’t surprising.

For months politicians made baseless claims against a democratic process, and Ken Mayer, a professor of American politics, said hearing that from President Donald Trump and other Republican politicians led to this result.

He said these actions are what you see in dictatorships, and there isn’t a precedent in the U.S. He’s not sure how to explain this to his students.

“I’ve never seen anything like it in my life,” Mayer said. “It’s disgusting. It’s despicable. It’s abhorrent. And anyone who does not condemn this in absolute and unqualified language has, in my view, has no place in public life, and it’s that simple.”

From here, members of Congress continued to count the electoral votes Wednesday night. After that, President-elect Joe Biden will be sworn into office on Jan. 20.

For other politicians that Mayer believes fed these flames, he said in a just world they won’t be able to wash this from their careers.

“The people who have been intentionally undermining the integrity of the election for their own political purposes have been lying, and it’s disgusting,” Mayer said. “And this is the result where you have violent armed protesters breaking into the Capitol.”

West Africa: 56 minors rescued from exploitation

15 suspects arrested in operation against human trafficking and child exploitation

ABIDJAN, Côte d’Ivoire – An INTERPOL-led operation targeting the criminal groups behind human trafficking and child exploitation across Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire and Togo has seen 90 victims rescued and 15 suspected traffickers arrested.

Of those rescued during Operation Priscas (5-12 December), 56 were underage victims of sexual exploitation and forced labour in gold mines, open-air markets and domestic settings.

To ensure appropriate follow-up, social services and non-governmental organizations were identified and integrated into each country’s operational plan. Victims were then taken into care for post-operation interviews and support.

Operational highlights

In Côte d’Ivoire, authorities carried out several raids and vehicle checks on major routes. In a significant bust, one of those checks led to the identification of a group of 35 victims, including eight minors, who were accompanied by a known human trafficking suspect and his accomplice.

Long suspected of running a business-like sexual exploitation ring, the pair had been wanted at national level for two years. Hoping to blend among the victims, they were caught when officers cross-checked their identity documents against INTERPOL’s West African Police Information System (WAPIS).

In Burkina Faso, thanks to vehicle profiling, 10 minors were identified as they travelled to an illegal gold mine, where they had been promised work. The children, who did not have any identity documents on them, were taken into care and their ‘employer’ arrested. Investigations are ongoing.

In Benin, authorities concentrated their efforts on the Dantokpa market in Cotonou, the largest open-air market in West Africa, where four children were rescued from situations of forced labour.

In Togo, a Nigerian national was intercepted en route to Mali in the company of five women, including three minors. Her phone revealed that although they had officially been recruited to work in a hair salon, they were going to work in clubs for the purpose of sexual exploitation. The case has been referred to the Central Directorate of Judicial Police (DCPJ) for investigation.

UW student alleging bias in political science prof's syllabus now expects class to be objective

A University of Wisconsin-Madison student whose Facebook post alleging liberal bias by a political science professor went viral this week said that after attending two lectures, she doesn’t think the class will be slanted.

“I’m not concerned with the course itself being biased,” McKenna Collins told the Daily Cardinal on Thursday. "(Professor Ken Mayer) reassured me that my viewpoints, regardless of what they are, will be welcomed in the class.”

Collins' Facebook post Monday unleashed a national backlash against Mayer and landed her a spot on Fox News on Wednesday to air her complaint.

Collins posted the first page of the syllabus for "The American Presidency," a class taught by Mayer, a well-respected instructor. In the syllabus, Mayer states that the presidency of Donald Trump offers a good opportunity to study the office “with a president who gleefully flouts the norm of governing and presidential behavior that have structured the office since George Washington.”

He adds: “To his supporters, this is not a bug, but a feature, and they rejoice in his contempt for what they insist is a corrupt D.C. establishment. If elites are against it, Trump’s supporters are for it.”

He devotes more words to Trump’s critics and the controversies clouding the presidency.

“To others, he is a spectacularly unqualified and catastrophically unfit egomaniac who poses an overt threat to the Republic,” Mayor writes, going on to describe Russian operatives working to help Trump’s campaign, several Trump campaign officials pleading guilty to “lying to the FBI or to other crimes,” Trump allegedly directing his attorney, Michael Cohen, to buy silence from women who said they had affairs with Trump, and Cohen’s lies over efforts during the campaign to build a Trump Tower in Moscow.

“Other shoes are almost certain to drop, and evidence continues to emerge of ongoing contacts and engagement between Trump Campaign officials and Russian intelligence assets and government officials,” he writes.

He says he plans to teach the class, in part, in real time, leaving space in the schedule in case the report on Russian campaign interference from special counsel Robert Mueller is released during the semester.

In her Facebook post, Collins, a conservative student and former Miss Wisconsin, complained: “He didn’t even try to offer an opposing argument in favor of the President or explain why the President’s supporters actually support him.”

On Wednesday, Collins appeared on Fox News’ Tucker Carlson Tonight, telling a national audience that she felt she would suffer repercussions for taking Mayer to task for what she perceived as his liberal bias.

“I’m sure that I would be penalized for that,” she said.

She also contended that a liberal bias permeates the university, forcing her and other students to compromise their views to achieve good grades.

“Students have messaged me and said that they have had to change their opinions just to get an A in a class,” she said, “so I’m certainly not the first person that this has happened to.”

The post also prompted a letter to Mayer Wednesday from state Rep. Dave Murphy, R-Greenville, chairman of the Assembly Committee on Colleges and Universities, in which Murphy said he was “appalled by your politically polarized characterization of the Trump presidency.”

“Placing hyper-partisan value judgments on contemporary actions of the president, as an introduction to a course in a syllabus, has a chilling effect on any future class discourse,” he wrote.

He called the course description a “slap in the face to the sort of academic rigor that should be a central focus at an institution such as UW-Madison.”

Murphy has previously taken the university to task for what he and other Republicans say is a liberal bias, blasting a course entitled “The Problem of Whiteness” and vowing to hunt for other course offerings that might be inappropriate, and pushing legislation to punish students who disrupt campus speakers, a response to disruptive protests of controversial conservative speakers.

Mayer didn’t respond to messages seeking comment.

On Friday, contact information for Mayer was removed from his profile on the political science department's website and he was removed from the UW Experts Database, which is often used by reporters seeking comment on specific subjects.

The bill was approved 188 votes to 150, and now moves on to the Senate. Should it be passed, applicants will no longer be required to obtain a medical diagnosis of gender dysphoria prior to legally changing their sex, nor will they be required to provide proof of two years of hormonal treatments as was the case in the past, the BBC reports.

Trans activists have been pushing to depathologize gender dysphoria for over a decade in a move that mirrors the gay rights movement. Homosexuality was considered a mental illness until the 1970s before it was removed from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). Trans activists argue that the same should be done for gender dysphoria, overlooking the obvious difference that being gay does not require medical intervention or body part amputation.

Many Spanish feminists have voiced concerns that the self-ID bill will put women and girls at risk, and the issue has caused a rift in the coalition government with some members of the Socialist party expressing criticism.

"When gender is asserted over biological sex, it does not seem to me to be a step forward in a progressive direction; it seems to be a step backwards," Carmen Calvo, former deputy prime minister to Mr. Sanchez told the BBC. "The state has to provide answers for transgender people, but gender is neither voluntary nor optional."

If enacted, Spain would join nine other European countries in having self-identification legislation, including Ireland, Norway, and Portugal.

The vote occurred just as Scotland passed its hotly contested Gender Recognition Reform Bill which also implements a system of self-identification for anyone aged 16 and over and reduces the amount of time living in the acquired gender to just three months. The bill was also met with strong opposition from Scottish feminists.

Sean Hannity Testifies He ‘Did Not Believe For One Second’ That the 2020 Election Was Stolen

Fox News host Sean Hannity has testified under oath that he did not believe “for one second” that the 2020 election was fraudulent.

Hannity reportedly testified in a deposition on Wednesday concerning Dominion Voting Systems’ $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit against Fox News.

“I did not believe it for one second,” Hannity said of claims that the election was rigged or stolen.

Stephen Shackelford, Jr., an attorney for Dominion, told the New York Times that many Fox News stars have said that they do not believe that the election was stolen.

“Many of the highest-ranking Fox people have admitted under oath that they never believed the Dominion lies,” Shackelford said, according to the Times report.

Shackelford said that even Tucker Carlson has said that he didn’t believe the election was stolen.

“Mr. Shackelford described how Mr. Carlson had ‘tried to squirm out of it at his deposition’ when asked about what he really believed,” the Times report says. “Mr. Shackelford started to elaborate about what Mr. Carlson had said privately, telling the judge about the existence of text messages the host had sent in November and December of 2020. But the judge, Eric M. Davis, cut him off, leaving the specific contents of those texts unknown.”

The case will be going to trial in April.

To win, Dominion must prove that Fox hosts were saying one thing privately and another thing publicly.

According to the Times report, Dominion’s lawyers argued in court on Wednesday that “they had obtained ample evidence to make that case.”

Admiral Kuznetsov, the flagship of the Russian Navy and the country's only aircraft carrier, caught on fire Thursday, according to Russian state-media.

Why it matters: Accidents have marred the ship since it went under its ongoing overhaul in 2017. It had originally been due to return to service in 2022.

Flashback: In 2018, a floating dock used in the overhaul abruptly sank, causing a crane to punch a massive hole through the ship's flight deck.

A separate fire broke out on the ship in 2019 from spilled fuel, killing two and injuring more than a dozen.

What they're saying: Alexei Rakhmanov, head of the United Shipbuilding Corporation — which is overseeing the ship's refit — told Russian state-media Thursday the fire was "small" and was extinguished.

"All the relevant fire systems worked normally. There was no damage and no casualties,” Rakhmanov said.

The big picture: The ship, located in the 35th shipyard in Murmansk, Russia, is set to return to the fleet in the first quarter of 2024, barring any future delays.

In a myriad of demands that have emerged during the coalition negotiations, as Benjamin Netanyahu attempts to form a new government, one has been especially jarring. The demand to integrate the Talmud, a record of the rabbinic debates in the 2nd-5th century on the teachings of the Torah, into the curriculum at state schools.

Taken at face value, it could just be instance of a society being mindful of its cultural origins. But, the far-right lawmakers appear to want our children to internalize the depths of Jewish culture to the point where it might not be healthy.

The Talmud is a document that raises many pivotal and fundamental questions upon which there's little agreement. Moreover, the Talmud is not a call for direct action. It is about a sacred sense of being that touches of the complexity of life.

And therein lies the question: How does the Talmud's spirit of deep consciousness sit with the incoming government's very specific, pointed demands about integrating religion into state schools?

The two loudest far-right elements of the emerging coalition, Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich, represent a foreign mindset to the very same Talmud they wish to see in every school.

Their demands to dismantle ministries into several smaller entities, their insatiable appetite for power and their dogmatic view of the Israeli society, which they claim to want to serve, all indicate they see liberalism as a thing of the past.

I’m watching the first session of Kari Lake trial and questions of Richer, the most evasive, dishonest creature I’ve ever seen.

My understanding of past elections and the audit of 2020, along with statements of poll workers in 2020, there is always a Chain of Custody document is completed at the voting center with the exact number of ballots transferred to MCTEC and in each blue bin, inside is that document has the number of ballots sent. Richer is saying, “no the voting center does not include the numbrr if ballots sent and Mctech then counts them”.

This is ludicrous as chain of custody documentation from voting center is specifically to prevent anyone involved in the transfer, for any bad actor to add or subtract votes in route. In essence Richer is saying there is NO chain of custody between locations, which defeats the whole purpose of chain of custody.

He goes on to say, they are only counted when delivered to MCTech and then sent to Runbeck with the accurate count, only for Runbeck to recount them. We all remember the chain of custody papers in the audit, which the auditors found they were totally fucked up, duplicate forms and add ballots.

There is an AZ state law that explicitly states the process of chain of custody which starts at the voting center counting the voted with a form with the contents of the box.(Truthfully these assholes educated all anons on voting procedures for 3 years)

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a Marine who was supporting Operation Inherent Resolve.

Staff Sgt. Samuel D. Lecce, 32, of Jefferson, Tenn., died Dec. 19, 2022, as the result of a ‘non-combat related incident’ in Iraq. This incident is under investigation.

“Our highest priority remains our people, as we focus on providing the necessary services and resources to support his family and friends during this difficult time,” the DOD said.

Lecce was assigned to the 3rd Marine Raider Battalion, Marine Forces Special Operations Command, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

No other information was immediately available.

Two young sisters in North Carolina suffocated to death inside a weighted blanket in April, months later - with just days left before Christmas - the US Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued 240,000 of the children's blanket recalled.  

The sisters, ages 4 and 6, died of asphyxia after they became entrapped in the The Pillowfort Weighted Blanket, which includes a zipper, and suffocated in April 2022, officials said. 

The youngsters were playing and sealed themselves inside the blanket cover which caused them to suffocate. The deaths happened at Camp Lejeune, a Marine Corps base camp in North Carolina.

Meta-optics: The disruptive technology you didn't see coming

Meta-optics is advancing science and technology far beyond the 3,000-year-old optical paradigm that we rely on for the visual human-machine interface, such as through cameras in our mobile phones, the lenses in microscopes, drones, and telescopes. Optical components are the technology bottleneck that meta-optics aims to transform, bringing the stuff of science-fiction stories into everyday devices.

The field, which blossomed after the early 2000s thanks to the conceptualization of a material with negative refractive index that could form a perfect lens, has grown rapidly in the last five years and now sees around 3000 publications a year.

This accelerating volume of research is impossible for scientists and technologists to navigate, which prompted Nature Photonics to commission a review from leaders in meta-optics research, Professor Dragomir Neshev, Centre Director of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Transformative Meta-Optical Systems, and Professor of Physics at the Australian National University, and Professor Andrey Miroshnichenko from UNSW Canberra.

They found the field was on the verge of industrial disruption.

"The biggest driver for the meta-optics field comes from integrating meta-optical elements and devices into optical systems, offering consumer optoelectronics applications," the authors wrote.

"Importantly, meta-optical systems enable novel applications not conceivable before, adding to so-called Industry 4.0. Such applications include the Internet of Things, autonomous cars, wearable devices, augmented reality and remote sensing."

The importance of the technology is shown by the large-scale investment from big industry players such as Apple, Google, and Samsung, who have been hiring graduates and investing in the field, especially to develop vision applications.

But the authors note that beyond vision, the non-traditional characteristics of meta-optics could also be used for light sails, LiFi and thermal management.

These characteristics come from meta-optics' use of surfaces patterned with regular nanoscale structures, in contrast with the traditional optics of mirrors and lenses. The result is miniature components that scatter and manipulate light in ways that would have astounded Isaac Newton.

The first commercial components using these properties are already on the market, with companies such as Metalenz, NILT technologies and Meta Materials Inc delivering flat metalenses, polarization imaging, microscopy and biosensing.

These devices also enable access to properties of light that the human eye cannot detect—polarization and phase, for example, and even can be used to engineer, manipulate and quantum states of light, that could be employed for quantum imaging, sensing and communications.

But the authors also found challenges for the field. The first of these is the ability to scale up to industrial processes that are compatible with the current industry standard CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) manufacturing techniques—especially because most meta-optical components rely on a transparent substrate, which CMOS is not.

Secondly, they found the ability to make tunable or reconfigurable metamaterials to enable dynamic components—just as the pixels on a TV screen can change color many times per second—was elusive.

"This is an unsolved problem that we put forward as the main challenge for the field. It's the key element for the field, everybody needs it now," Professor Neshev said.

"There is a misconception that it has been done—people do a small step and in their papers project to a faraway future. But no one can actually modulate the phase at a pixel level for a large array."

If these challenges can be solved then meta-optics technology has enormous potential, Professor Neshev said.

"As a platform meta-optics is so flexible it can go into any product—for example, phones, computers, cars, satellites."

"It offers the ultimate in miniaturization of optical components, for size weight and power; it enables a human device interface that not possible with conventional optics—such as 3D vision and augmented reality, that is really hard with conventional optics," Professor Neshev said.

"And lastly, if we can modify the phase of light that passes through a component, then we will be able to do just about any image processing. That will be the big game changer."

The FBI took possession of the Hunter Biden laptop from computer repair shop owner Jahn Paul Mac Isaac in December 2019.

John Paul Mac Isaac then never heard another word from the FBI. The elite investigative agency killed the story and refused to investigate the contents of the laptop. This was a conscious decision by the FBI to help their candidate Joe Biden in his race against President Donald Trump.

The FBI never disclosed ANYTHING to Congressional lawmakers or the Trump administration during the bogus impeachment trial. They had all the evidence to debunk the impeachment. They kept quiet instead.

John Paul Mac Isaac later gave a copy of the computer hard drive to Rudy Giuliani. The FBI was illegally tapping into Rudy’s calls and tracking his communications online. They knew Rudy had a copy of the laptop. They devised a plan and warned Big Tech about the story encouraging Twitter, Facebook, Google, etc. to kill the story.

The FBI later said they lost the laptop.

An FBI whistleblower claims FBI brass told employees NOT to look at Hunter Biden’s laptop from hell.

Chris Wray and the FBI later raided President Trump’s home while ignoring the reams of evidence of criminal conduct on the Hunter Biden laptop.

And now the FBI says they did not push Big Tech to kill the Hunter Biden story despite evidence produced to the contrary.

On Wednesday, in response to the publication of Elon Musk’s Twitter files, the FBI issued a statement in which it accused the journalists behind the Twitter files of being “conspiracy theorists” in order to ‘discredit the agency.’

The FBI has been making a concerted effort to exert control over Twitter, its users, and their information.

The FBI paid Twitter $3.4 million in tax dollars to censor, suspend and harass Twitter users who only wanted to share the truth.

On Wednesday’s episode of America Reports on Fox News, Sandra Smith read the statement from the FBI:

“The correspondence between the FBI and Twitter show nothing more than examples of our traditional, longstanding and ongoing federal government and private sector engagements, which involve numerous companies over multiple sectors and industries.
