The “marriage” between the US and EU will likely end in divorce, following the obvious “economic cheating” by the American “alpha-male,” former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has said. The remarks were made on Monday amid media reports that EU nations are becoming increasingly angry over what they see as American opportunism amid the Ukraine crisis.

The US “has no intention to share his income. On the contrary, he steals the last savings of his aging partner and pockets the money without any qualms,” Medvedev, the deputy head of Russia’s Security Council, wrote on his Telegram channel.

Washington increasingly makes the business conditions at home attractive to European companies and encourages other nations to buy its products, he noted. Meanwhile, the market for European goods is shrinking, in part because of its decision to decouple from Russia, he added.

“You can’t really trust those rich patrons. Just like that – Europe is off the allowance!” he said. The EU could “break up with its cheating … partner and start a new life of freedom,” but most likely they do not have enough resolve and “testosterone” for it, he added. In a nod to “political correctness,” Medvedev said he declined to define the genders of the characters in his metaphor.

The growing rift between EU leaders and their American counterparts has been reflected in public statements within the bloc and in Western media reports.

Last week, Politico described a growing anger in the EU due to the perception that Washington is profiting from the crisis among the member states. Some of the bloc’s senior officials are irritated by the fact that US energy suppliers are selling liquified natural gas to EU nations at a price four times higher than at home, while military contractors are benefitting by “selling more weapons” to Ukraine, the article said.

EU officials also point to the US Inflation Reduction Act and the impact that the financial incentives for eco-friendly businesses that it provides will have on European companies trying to compete, and which are finding it difficult to cope with the record-high energy prices at home, Politico added.

The flooring of the ancient Westminster Hall was damaged by the “high-level of continuous footfall” when over a quarter of a million people bid their final farewell to Queen Elizabeth II, a House of Lords spokesperson revealed on Monday.

“As a consequence of the high-level continuous footfall through Westminster Hall during the lying-in-state some delamination to the Yorkstone floor has occurred,” the spokesperson told British media, adding that the damage did “not present a structural risk.”

The excessive flow of people even “exposed some areas of bare stone,” the spokesperson explained. The worn-out patches of the stone flooring are expected to “blend in with the surrounding areas over time,” he added.

Elizabeth II, who died on September 8, was the longest-ruling British monarch, having occupied the throne for more than 70 years. The Queen’s coffin was put on display at Westminster Hall for some five days, with over 250,000 people visiting the ancient building to pay their final respects to the late monarch.

Constructed in the late 11th century, the hall has been renovated multiple times by different British rulers over its history. The current floor is made of Yorkstone, a variety of sandstone mined in Yorkshire, and is relatively ‘new’, having been installed only in the 1830s.

The publisher of the English-language dictionary says searches for ‘gaslighting’ spiked more than 1,000%

Gaslighting, a term used to describe a form of psychological manipulation, is Merriam-Webster's word of the year for 2022.

The oldest dictionary publisher in the US defines gaslighting as causing the victim “to question the validity of their own thoughts, perception of reality, or memories,” among other things. A second definition is that gaslighting is “the act or practice of grossly misleading someone, especially for one’s own advantage.”

Merriam-Webster Editor-at-Large Peter Sokolowski told AP on Monday that searches for the word rose by 1,740% this year. He added that there was no single event that prompted the sudden curiosity and interest in ‘gaslighting.’

“It’s a word that has risen so quickly in the English language, and especially in the last four years, that it actually came as a surprise to me and to many of us,” Sokolowski said.

It is believed that the word was first popularized by the 1938 play ‘Gas Light’ and two of its film adaptations made in the 1940s. In the 1944 film, a man lies to a woman, convincing her that the dimming of the gaslights at their home was a figment of her imagination. According to Sokolowski, the death of actress Angela Lansbury in October, who starred in the film, contributed to the interest in the term.

The dictionary publisher chose ‘pandemic’ as the word of the year 2020, and ‘vaccine’ the following year.

Anthony Fauci’s Daughter Works for Leftist Organization Helping Groups Push Vaccines

One of Dr. Anthony Fauci’s daughters, Alison Fauci, is listed as a software engineer for a leftist organization that, in part, helps groups push coronavirus jabs on the American public.

It has been publicly known that the outgoing White House chief medical advisor’s daughter Alison or “Ali,” works as a software engineer, but her current line of work appears to align with the objectives touted by her father, who is among federal health officials who has been pushing vaccines for the Chinese coronavirus on the American public.

This coercive effort reached a breaking point in late 2021, after President Biden attempted to force millions of Americans to get the jab by enforcing it through an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rule on employers, which the Supreme Court struck down in January. Biden’s attempt served as another broken promise, as he previously said as president-elect that he “wouldn’t demand” mandatory coronavirus vaccines on Americans.

While the major employer mandate has been struck down and individual states, such as Florida, have taken action to protect people from losing their jobs due to the jab, there is still a massive vaccine campaign being pushed by federal health officials and organizations, and Fauci’s daughter works for an organization that assists in that effort.

Ali Fauci, a graduate of Stanford, is listed as a senior software engineer Empower Project, which “helps communities, progressive organizations, and non-profits leverage their personal relationships to build power and dramatically expand the electorate.” She is described as someone who “is passionate about the intersection of tech and social good.”

Her bio reads:

Ali is a software engineer based in San Francisco. Previously, she worked on Twitter’s Android application for several years, as well as helping with applications for eye research at UCSF, scavenger hunt events, and access to social services in San Francisco. She is passionate about the intersection of tech and social good and excited to be a part of Empower Project’s work in this area. Outside of software, Ali works as an EMT in San Francisco, and previously led a morning workout group called November Project.

According to LinkedIn, she has been involved with the company since May 2022 and is focused on “building a React app and website with a small engineering team to help progressive groups in their organizing and outreach efforts, and supporting in house organizers and trainers who work with these organizations so they can use the tool effectively.”

The company itself lists several left-wing partners, including the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC), the Sunrise Movement, Black Votes Matter, and various state chapters of the pro-abortion NARAL.

Connected to the Empower Project is the a 501(c)(3) non-profit, the Empower Fund, which is focused on “promoting vaccine education, access and equity.” The Empower Fund actually teamed up with DHS Wisconsin to promote what it describes as “vaccine acceptance” via “Get Well Wisconsin,” with focuses on providing “coaching, software, and grants” specific “to COVID-19” to their partnerships.

“This approach would allow groups to utilize infrastructure that is already in place, particularly in Communities of Color, and ‘hit the ground running’ with relational vaccine messaging,” the website reads.

The US Covid-19 czar claims that Beijing has no clear strategy

The outgoing White House chief medical adviser, Dr. Anthony Fauci, has criticized China for rejecting Western vaccines while continuing to impose lockdowns on its citizens. Beijing argues that its strategy has led to a lower death count.

“Their approach has been very, very severe and rather draconian in the kinds of shutdowns without a seeming purpose,” Fauci said on Sunday in an NBC News interview.

The 81-year-old Fauci, who plans to retire by the end of next month, led a disjointed US Covid-19 response marked by his flip-flopping on issues such as the efficacy of masks and herd immunity targets. He criticized China’s ‘Zero Covid’ policies, despite previously praising similar zero-tolerance mitigation approaches in Australia and New Zealand.

Mass anti-lockdown protests rocked several Chinese cities including Shanghai, Wuhan, and Beijing over the weekend, allegedly triggered by a deadly apartment block fire in Urumqi, with protesters blaming Covid restrictions for hampering rescue efforts.

“It seems that in China, it was just a very, very strict, extraordinary lockdown, where you lock people in the house, but without any seemingly endgame to it,” Fauci said. “They went into a prolonged lockdown without any seeming purpose or endgame to it, which really doesn’t make public health sense.”

China’s Foreign Ministry stated this summer that the “dynamic zero-Covid policy” is “not aimed at zero infection.” Rather, “it aims to control the spread of the virus at the lowest possible cost in the shortest possible time.”According to official figures, China has recorded 9.5 million infections and 30,000 fatalities, while the US has counted more than 97 million cases and nearly 1.1 million deaths.

While President Joe Biden declared two months ago that the pandemic is “over,” Fauci contradicted this statement, saying on Sunday that the US is still seeing 300-400 deaths from Covid-19 daily and lamenting that less than 15% of Americans have been inoculated with the most up-to-date booster shot.

Fauci said Beijing made a mistake by refusing to bring in “highly effective, 94-95% effective”Western vaccines and relying on domestically developed shots, which he claimed were inferior to the inoculations used elsewhere around the world. Yet despite being fully vaccinated and double-boosted with an American vaccine, Fauci himself caught the virus twice.

The controversial US health official also accused the Chinese authorities of acting in a “suspicious, non-transparent way” during disease outbreaks, “even when there’s nothing to hide.” However, Fauci himself previously admitted to lying to the US public in order to “nudge” up vaccination rates.

Disney Plus’s first original scripted Spanish series will be a fashion biopic of celebrated designer Balenciaga, the company unveiled today.

The drama, created by Lourdes Iglesias and 12-time Goya Award-winners Jose Mari Goenaga, Jon Garaño and Aitor Arregi (“The Endless Trench”), tells the story of how Balenciaga, the son of a seamstress and a fisherman, defied societal expectations to become one of the most coveted designers in the world.

Disney Plus said “Balenciaga” will be the start of an original commissioning pipeline in the territory as it aims to reach a slate of 60 original series by 2024. Facebook recently confirmed its ties to the US military and military-linked pro-war propaganda pages on its platform.

Meta announced the finding in their Adversarial Threat Report, 3rd Quarter, 2022.

United States: We removed 39 Facebook accounts, 16 Pages, two Groups and 26 accounts on Instagram for violating our policy against coordinated inauthentic behavior. This network originated in the United States and focused on a number of countries including Afghanistan, Algeria, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Somalia, Syria, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Yemen. The operation ran across many internet services, including Twitter, YouTube, Telegram, VKontakte and Odnoklassniki. It included several clusters of fake accounts on our platforms, some of which were detected and disabled by our automated systems prior to our investigation. The majority of this operation’s posts had little to no engagement from authentic communities.

We found this activity as part of our internal investigation into suspected coordinated inauthentic behavior in the region. We’ve shared information about this network with independent researchers at Graphika and the Stanford Internet Observatory, who have published their findings about this network’s activity across the internet on August 24, 2022. Although the people behind this operation attempted to conceal their identities and coordination, our investigation found links to individuals associated with the US military.

The US military accounts were also found on Twitter, YouTube, Telegram and others.

Facebook’s parent company Meta has acknowledged the discovery of several clusters of fake accounts and pages believed to be linked to individuals “associated with the US military,” according to the company’s latest adversarial threat report published this week.

“Although the people behind this operation attempted to conceal their identities and coordination, our investigation found links to individuals associated with the US military,” the company said in a blog post on Tuesday.

The influence campaign was discovered earlier this year and in total Meta removed 39 Facebook and 26 Instagram accounts, as well as 16 pages and two groups, all for violating the company’s policy against “coordinated inauthentic behavior.”

The social media giant admitted that the large-scale operation ran beyond those several dozen accounts and across many other internet platforms, including Twitter, YouTube and Telegram – as well as major Russian social networks VKontakte and Odnoklassniki. It seemingly attempted to downplay the discovery by insisting that the “majority of this operation’s posts had little to no engagement from authentic communities” and highlighting similar “deceptive campaigns” by China and Russia.

Meta’s acknowledgement substantiates a bombshell investigation by the Washington Post that revealed the Pentagon was forced to launch a “sweeping audit of how it conducts clandestine information warfare,” after a variety of social media accounts, which its operatives used to target foreign audiences in elaborate psychological warfare efforts, were exposed.

Truth Social Initially Slaps Warning Label on Post from Stew Peters

A Truth Social post from conservative commentator and Died Suddenly creator Stew Peters initially received a “sensitive content” label before it later disappeared. The post drew attention to a number of public health officials who have reportedly suffered adverse effects from the COVID-19 vaccination campaign. Peters has tested the platform’s commitment to free speech absolutism in the past.

The post was not deleted, though it was slapped with a “sensitive content” warning that viewers had to acknowledge before viewing the post and linked article. “‘Truth’ Social has more censorship than Elon Musk’s Twitter,” Peters wrote in a Gab post referencing the warning label.

Former President Trump launched Truth Social in the name of free speech absolutism after his Twitter account was unjustly shut down. However, the company does adhere to a number of “anti-hate” standards laid out by Google and Apple in order for its app to be available in their respective marketplaces.

Stew Peters has questioned the platform’s commitment to free speech absolutism in the past. Not long after the platform was launched, Peters was slapped with a similar label after testing the platform’s boundaries compared with other Twitter alternatives.

“I’m ALREADY being censored on Truth Social. Want to know what I said?” Peters wrote in a Gab post. “I said, ‘The people in our government responsible for allowing our kids to be killed with these dangerous Covid shots, should be put on trial and executed.’ Free Speech isn’t free.” The post was slapped with a warning label from Truth Social but left undisturbed by Gab and Telegram.

It is unclear whether former President Trump will remain committed to Truth Social for the long-term, though he has indicated as such to this point. Trump’s famous Twitter account was recently unbanned by Elon Musk, though the former president has indicated that he intends to stay on Truth Social.

No Joke: Supreme Court Case Could Take A Big Bite Out Of The First Amendment

Below is my column in The Hill on what is shaping up to be a major Supreme Court term on the issues of parody and satire under the First Amendment. The Court could reframe the constitutional limits for criminal and civil liability in two cases currently on the docket, including one recently granted review.

Here is the column:

The court system often is where humor goes to die. For those seeking to use satire or parody of corporations, jokes often run into trademark or other lawsuits and result in a little more than “ha, ha, thump.”

The same bad audience could await the defendant in Jack Daniel’s Properties Inc. v. VIP Products LLC. The Supreme Court just accepted a case involving a tongue-in-cheek dog chew toy made to resemble a Jack Daniel’s whiskey bottle. VIP prevailed in defending the toy as protected speech, but the distiller wants the Supreme Court to declare such parodies to be trademark violations.

The docket this term is actually a hoot of parody cases.

Another pending case is Novak v. City of Parma, in which Anthony Novak was prosecuted for posting a parody of the website of his local police department. He was charged with (and later acquitted of) a felony under an Ohio law prohibiting the use of a computer to “disrupt” or “interrupt” police functions.

The satirical site, The Onion, has filed a brilliant parody brief to support the right to parody. The Onion regularly publishes funny fake news stories and, true to form, filed a brief as the self-described “world’s leading news publication” offering “universally revered coverage,” and noting it is the “single most powerful and influential organization in human history.” It told the court that its “more than 350,000 full- and part-time” staff members are renowned for “maintaining a towering standard of excellence” in journalism. (It added that it “owns and operates the majority of the world’s transoceanic shipping lanes, stands on the nation’s leading edge on matters of deforestation and strip mining, and proudly conducts tests on millions of animals daily.”) It was a tour-de-force on the value of satire to make profound legal and political points.

The court has yet to decide whether to take the Novak case, but it has accepted the Jack Daniel’s case. The distiller sued VIP over its introduction of the Silly Squeakers “Bad Spaniels” rubber squeaky toy. The toy is shaped like a whiskey bottle with a cartoon spaniel on the front and the caption: “Bad Spaniels, the Old No. 2, on your Tennessee Carpet.” On the back is a small disclaimer reading: “This product is not affiliated with Jack Daniel’s Distillery.”

That clearly was not enough for the distillery, which argued that people would be confused by the parody. While the district court originally ruled with Jack Daniel’s, it was reversed by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. The chew toy was ruled (correctly, in my mind) to involve “new expressive content” and to be protected under the First Amendment.

1 dead after Amtrak train, FedEx truck crash in west Georgia, authorities say

HARALSON COUNTY, Ga. — An Amtrak train crashed into a FedEx box truck Monday morning in Haralson County, killing the driver of the truck, authorities said.

Amtrak said it was traveling from New York to New Orleans around 11 a.m. when a "vehicle that was obstructing the track came into contact with the train."

The rail line said 55 people plus crew members were on board and no one was injured.

11Alive SkyTracker showed packages and other debris along the tracks. The Amtrak train did not derail.

Georgia State Patrol said the truck was traveling south on J David Road approaching a stop sign for the railroad tracks. A witness told them that the box truck "failed to stop at the stop sign and traveled onto the railroad tracks into the path of the train."

The train struck the vehicle's driver's side and the train pushed it about 1/2 mile before coming to a stop.

The name of the truck driver has not been released.

Leon Black accused in lawsuit of raping woman in Jeffrey Epstein's mansion

A struggling single mom filed suit against Leon Black Monday, alleging the billionaire raped her in Jeffrey Epstein’s Manhattan townhouse two decades ago, new court papers show.

Cheri Pierson claims the dead pedophile arranged for her and Black, 71, to meet at his Upper East Side mansion, where the legendary investor and former head of Apollo Global Management assaulted her, according to her Manhattan Supreme Court lawsuit.

“She recalls desperately yelling and screaming” and she “tried to kick” but “he was too strong,” the suit states, describing the alleged 2002 incident.

Black’s lawyer Susan Estrich said in a statement that Pierson’s claims are “categorically false” and part of her efforts to “extort money from Mr. Black by threatening to destroy his reputation.”

Pierson — who says she was introduced to Epstein in 2000 by his ex-girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell and an unnamed Ukrainian woman — came forward publicly for the first time in the suit, filed under New York’s Adult Survivors Act.

When she was roped into Epstein’s orbit, Pierson was a single mom trying to start a skincare line and struggling to make ends meet. She was paid around $300 for each of roughly five massages she gave to Epstein at the East 71st Street townhouse — where he would masturbate and ask her to perform oral sex on him, which she always refused, the suit claims.

Pierson then stopped seeing Epstein as he “was not happy” that she wouldn’t go further with him. But then in 2002, she called him “in desperate need for money,” the filing states.

The well-connected financier had a messenger bring her a card with $300 and the message “compliments of Jeffrey Epstein.” Shortly after, Epstein called Pierson saying he wanted to introduce someone who could help her — and set up a meeting with Black, the suit claims.

Black showed up in a business suit and seemed very familiar with Epstein’s home, taking Pierson up to the massage room and having $300 ready for her, the lawsuit alleges.

The hulking 6-foot-four, 300-pound Black allegedly undressed and insisted on giving her oral sex, which he did violently while holding her upside down with her legs over his shoulders, according to the suit, which notes Pierson was much slighter, weighing 125 pounds and being 5 feet 8 inches tall.

During the alleged rape, Black bit her causing “excruciating pain,” the court papers claim.

After, when they both were outside, the former MOMA chairman told her, “Black, my name is Leo Black,” before hopping in a town car and leaving, the lawsuit alleges.

Pierson says she had horrible vaginal swelling, tearing and bleeding that she had to recover from over the next several weeks. She was in pain and had difficulty urinating because of it, the suit claims.

Black reached out to her several times after, and she met up with him on two occasions – the first time she left soon after out of fear and devastation and on the second, he gave her $5,000 cash when they met at the bar of the St. Regis Hotel, the suit alleges.

Black called her soon after, saying he wanted to see her again and when Pierson asked why, he responded, “I just gave you $5,000!” according to the lawsuit.
