Pentagon watchdog flags potentially illegal blanket denials of COVID vax religious exemptionsJust The News

Secretary of Defense sat on explosive inspector general memo for months before forwarding to service secretaries, department general counsel.

By Natalia Mittelstadt

Updated: September 17, 2022 - 11:19pm

The Defense Department's inspector general has alerted the secretary of defense to apparent blanket denials of religious accommodation requests (RAR) for exemptions from the military COVID-19 vaccine mandate, which would be a violation of federal law.

The memo details "potential noncompliance with standards for reviewing and documenting the denial of religious accommodation requests of Service members." The acting inspector general noted that "dozens of complaints" had been received regarding denied RARs.

"We have found a trend of generalized assessments rather than the individualized assessment that is required by Federal law and DoD and Military Service policies," wrote acting Inspector General Sean O'Donnell.

The inspector general originally sent the memorandum to the defense secretary in June, but it was not forwarded to the secretaries of each military service and the DOD general counsel until three months later, on Sept. 2.

"Additionally, the volume and rate at which decisions were made to deny requests is concerning," the Office of the Inspector General added. "The appeal authorities of the Services we reviewed indicated that an average of 50 denials per day were processed over a 90-day period. Assuming a 10-hour work day with no breaks or attention to other matters, the average review period was about 12 minutes for each package. Such a review period seems insufficient to process each request in an individualized manner and still perform the duties required of their position."

Amid the many lawsuits against the Defense Department regarding denied RARs, one of the key arguments made by service members' legal counsel is that the denials were predetermined and nearly identical, contrary to the individualized assessment that they are supposed to receive.

Just two people were waiting to greet POTUS.

One of them, as we can confirm from the embassy’s site, is the U.S. ambassador in the UK:

President Joe Biden will be one of the only world leaders allowed to use his helicopter in London when he arrives for the Queen’s funeral, The Post has confirmed. The president and first lady Jill Biden arrived in the UK last night. They were expected to join King Charles, Queen Consort Camilla, alongside other members of the royal family and world leaders at a reception at Buckingham Palace. Joe and Jill arrived at Stansted Airport on Air Force One.

Voter challenges, records requests swamp election offices

>swamp

https://apnews.com/article/2022-midterm-elections-voting-georgia-presidential-florida-dfbe7f00418a35c70c9d53fa3a260111

Spurred by conspiracy theories about the 2020 presidential election, activists around the country are using laws that allow people to challenge a voter’s right to cast a ballot to contest the registrations of thousands of voters at a time.

In Iowa, Linn County Auditor Joel Miller had handled three voter challenges over the previous 15 years. He received 119 over just two days after Doug Frank, an Ohio educator who is touring the country spreading doubts about the 2020 election, swung through the state.

In Nassau County in northern Florida, two residents challenged the registrations of nearly 2,000 voters just six days before last month’s primary. In Georgia, activists are dropping off boxloads of challenges in the diverse and Democratic-leaning counties comprising the Atlanta metro area, including more than 35,000 in one county late last month.

Election officials say the vast majority of the challenges will be irrelevant because they contest the presence on voting rolls of people who already are in the process of being removed after they moved out of the region. Still, they create potentially hundreds of hours of extra work as the offices scramble to prepare for November’s election.

“They at best overburden election officials in the run-up to an election, and at worse they lead to people being removed from the rolls when they shouldn’t be,” said Sean Morales-Doyle of The Brennan Center for Justice, which has tracked an upswing in voter challenges.

The voter challenges come as activists who believe in the election lies of former President Donald Trump also have flooded election offices across the country with public records requests and threats of litigation, piling even more work on them as they ready for November.

“It’s time-consuming for us, because we have to consult with our county attorneys about what the proper response is going to be,” said Rachel Rodriguez, an elections supervisor in Dane County, Wisconsin, which includes Madison, the state capital.

She received duplicate emails demanding records about two weeks ago: “It’s taking up valuable time that we don’t necessarily have as election officials when we’re trying to prepare for a November election.”

Michael Henrici, the Democratic commissioner of elections in New York’s Otsego County, received a single-line email last week warning of unspecified “election integrity” litigation, then a follow-up complaining he hadn’t responded.

“These aren’t people with specific grievances,” Henrici said. “They’re getting a form letter from someone’s podcast and sometimes filling in the blanks.”

Multiple investigations and reviews, including one by Trump’s own Department of Justice, found no significant fraud in the 2020 presidential election, and courts rejected dozens of lawsuits brought by Trump and his allies. But Trump has continued to insist that widespread fraud cost him re-election. That has inspired legions of activists to become do-it-yourself election sleuths around the country, challenging local voting officials at every turn.

National debt nears $31 trillion as Congress considers new spending bill

The Congressional Budget Office has estimated that the debt will reach 110% of GDP in 2032 — higher than it has ever been — and 185% of GDP in 2052.

By Nicholas Ballasy

Updated: September 17, 2022 - 11:33pm

The national debt is nearing $31 trillion with the Democrat-led Congress newly back in session to debate a spending bill to keep the federal government funded past Sept. 30.

The Congressional Budget Office has estimated that the debt will reach 110% of GDP in 2032 — higher than it has ever been — and 185% of GDP in 2052.

"Moreover, if lawmakers amended current laws to maintain certain policies now in place, even larger increases in debt would ensue," read the Budget and Economic Outlook: 2022 to 2032.

"Debt is projected to rise in relation to GDP mainly because of increasing interest costs and growth in spending for Medicare and Social Security," the CBO explained.

The deficit hit a record $3.1 trillion in FY2020, driven by COVID-19 stimulus spending. It dropped slightly to $2.8 trillion in FY2021 as the pandemic continued. The deficit is projected to be $1 trillion for FY2022, according to the CBO.

When President Biden took office in January 2021, the national debt was $27.7 trillion. The national debt is currently $30.9 trillion, according to the latest Treasury Department data.

Under Biden, the Democrat-led Congress passed the $2 trillion American Rescue Plan, a coronavirus stimulus bill, on a party-line vote using budget reconciliation to avoid a Senate filibuster.

Congress also passed a $2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill that will increase deficits by about $400 billion, according to CBO figures. Biden also signed the CHIPS bill, which the CBO estimates will raise deficits about $80 billion.

Congress later passed the PACT Act on a bipartisan vote. The measure expands health care coverage for war veterans who were exposed to burn pits in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget (CRFB) has estimated that the legislation will raise deficits by at least $277 billion over 10 years.

Biden recently signed the $740 billion Inflation Reduction Act, which includes about $380 billion for climate-related initiatives as well as an expansion of Obamacare subsidies and a program designed to lower prescription drug costs for seniors.

The Tax Foundation and CRFB have projected the legislation will reduce the deficit between $174 billion and $300 billion over 10 years due to the tax increases in the bill and additional tax collection as a result of the $80 billion in new federal funding for the IRS.

In late August, Biden announced that his administration was unilaterally implementing a student debt forgiveness program of up to $20,000 per eligible borrower. Budget watchdogs estimate that the White House student debt forgiveness program will raise the national debt by up to $600 billion.

Rachel Levine's father Melvin Levine was a serial pedophile who blew his brains out after getting caught.

Decades of Abuse and Cover-Ups

In 2011, Levine died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head just a day after he was hit with a class action child sex abuse lawsuit, as reported by The New York Times.

The class action suit alleged that, between 1966 and 1985, Levine had abused 40 boys under his care at Children’s Hospital Boston. Each plaintiff claimed Levine had performed unnecessary genital exams, groped, fondled, and/or performed oral sex on them as kids.

Although the suit was filed in 2011, Levine had moved to North Carolina in 1985. Per the Times, some in Boston believed Levine had moved states to escape allegations of child sex abuse. It wasn’t long until similar allegations were made against him in North Carolina.

However, every time Levine’s victims and their parents attempted to report an instance of abuse, medical staff ignored them. Levine was able to continue his alleged perverted practice for 22 years.

No sauce on this, so consider it an opine.

Stephen Miller - Biden’s “Liberal World Order” is a war on the working and middle class:

- Domestic drilling bans to explode energy costs

- Run printing presses to inflate dollar

- Open borders to drain and erode family income, resources, stability

- Open jails to release predators upon the community

- Destroy nuclear family, discourage childbirth, promote abortion as “family planning”

- Replace religion with regime ideology

- Put Government between parents & children

- Use schools & corporations to instill woke propaganda, sow gender confusion, teach hatred of self/family/faith/nation

- Erase distinctions of biological sex & force doctors to elevate ideology over science

- Police speech, punish dissent, jail dissenters

- Racial discrimination & stereotyping to divide populace

- Transfer wealth from workers to Wall Street via outsourcing

- Globalist wars

The Queen went along with the replacement of the native British people in the UK for 3rd worlders via endless legal and illegal migration watching the UK turn into a crime riden shithole where children get raped and trafficked while the people who complain about the foreigers doing it get arrested for "hate crimes", and had no problems with her royal family doing business and keeping close personal relations with notorious pedophiles and child traffickers like Epstein and Jimmy Savile, so she can burn in hell.

The Queen performed the same function our Constitution currently performs for us.

They both provided the illusion of continuity.

Their existence gave our enemies plausible deniability as our nations were fundamentally reshaped by outsiders, with outsiders, for outsiders.

Sure, looking around, Britain no longer resembles the nation it once did. But, the monarchy is in place. Constant, stoic, intractable. Perhaps not much has changed after all?

Sure, looking around, America has rapidly disintegrated into a third-world hellhole. But, the Constitution is still the law of the land! And politicians still pay lip service to it. We’ll be just fine!

The people who conquered our nations allowed us to keep just enough of our customs to stave off revolution.

Michael Anton speech: Deep State national security bureaucracy no longer “great patriots keeping us safe”…

September 16, 2022 ( ago)

A must-watch speech by former Trump administration insider Michael Anton.

Anton describes the difference between the Administrative State vs. the Deep State.

He also presents an interesting thesis in and of itself: that no one is in charge in the American system, rather, the “doctrine” (think: political correctness) has a tyrannical, self-perpetuating logic of its own.

Conservatives have a deep-seated suspicion of bureaucracy. We view it as cumbersome, expensive, intrusive, inefficient, sclerotic, often irrational, and not infrequently tyrannical. This distrust is mostly focused on domestic policy: for instance, Environmental Protection Agency rules that ban lightbulbs or stop building and development to protect some species. But the right has tended to play down the threat from the national-security bureaucracy.

That’s understandable in a way. There are many great patriots in our military and in the intelligence services. These organizations have done great things in the past.

Conservatives remember with fondness President Ronald Reagan’s military buildup that exorcized the ghost of Vietnam, and then won the Cold War and the first Gulf War. Many of us also remember 9/11—though it’s getting hard to recall just how insecure the nation felt in the immediate aftermath. When and where were the follow-on attacks that were sure to come? That question was on everyone’s lips. And when those attacks didn’t come, we were grateful to a security state that we were sure prevented them. And there were at least a few verifiable instances when it did.

Women seeking an abortion in Hungary must listen to a "foetal heartbeat" before they can undergo the procedure as the country tightens its abortion laws.

The Interior Ministry said "nearly two-thirds of Hungarians associate the beginning of a child's life with the first heartbeat" and added that modern equipment can detect heartbeats early in pregnancy to provide "more comprehensive information for pregnant women".

The decree states healthcare providers must provide pregnant women with "a clearly identifiable indication of foetal vital signs" before proceeding with an abortion.

In a statement, Hungary's Interior Ministry said "nearly two-thirds of Hungarians associate the beginning of a child's life with the first heartbeat".

It said modern equipment can detect heartbeats early in pregnancy to provide "more comprehensive information for pregnant women".

Aron Demeter, from Amnesty International Hungary, said the decree was a "very alarming step back" which "basically puts women already in a difficult position into a more difficult position".

He told Sky News: "The only 'achievement' of this amendment will be that people trying to access abortion will be more traumatised and more stressed."

Mr Demeter said the organisation was calling for the repeal of the amendment, adding: "It is not about giving information to women to make informed decisions, but rather to put pressure on them not to access abortion, which is definitely a violation of their human rights." Bullshit

President: Kazakhstan’s capital will again be called Astana

MOSCOW (AP) — Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has agreed to restore the former name of the country’s capital just three years after he renamed it in honor of his predecessor, his spokesperson said Tuesday.

One of Tokayev’s first moves upon taking office in 2019 after President Nursultan Nazarbayev stepped down was to call for Kazakhstan’s capital, Astana, to be dubbed Nur-Sultan instead.

Nazarbayev, who led the country for three decades under the Soviet Union and after it gained independence in 1991, relocated the capital from Almaty to Astana in 1997. The move was widely questioned because of the city’s relative isolation in the northern steppes and notoriously frigid winters in which temperatures plunge as low as 51 degrees Celsius below zero (minus-60 F).

He made the city into a showplace of gaudy architecture, including an observation tower where visitors can place their hands in a print of Nazarbayev’s.

After he stepped down, Nazarbayev retained enormous influence as head of the county’s ruling party and security council. But Tokayev removed him from those posts after deadly unrest in January that hinged partly on dissatisfaction with the power that Nazarbayev still wielded.

Tokayev’s spokesman, Ruslan Zheliban, said the president agreed to the name change after an initiative by a group of parliament members.

Meet the Brooklyn judge now at the epicenter of the Mar-a-Lago records case

Raymond Dearie will be the special master tasked with sorting through the files seized from Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home. Good luck, judge.

Dearie is a former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, a job he held from 1982 to 1986. He was chief judge of the Eastern District from 2007 to 2011. He remains an active judge on senior status, meaning he has a reduced caseload.

He also served on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court for seven years — where he was one of the judges who signed off warrants the FBI used to surveil 2016 Trump campaign aide Carter Page in an investigation into Russian election interference.

Federal investigators later determined an FBI lawyer altered an email used to support the surveillance application — something Trump has used to discredit the entire investigation — though a judge on the FBI attorney’s subsequent criminal case acknowledged the application might have been granted anyhow.

Some documents seized at Mar-a-Lago were marked “FISA,” indicating they relate to intelligence derived from foreign sources, according to an affidavit in the case.

“He works incredibly well with parties, but doesn’t tolerate nonsense,” said Richard Garbarini of Garbarini Fitzgerald P.C. “=•He will not allow parties, or attorneys, to play games, or play fast-and-loose with the rules==.”

Though few, if any, cases will match the stakes and intrigue of the Mar-a-Lago investigation, Dearie does have some high-profile cases under his belt. Those include the corruption trials of several officials at FIFA, the global soccer governing body.

He also oversaw a court battle in the 2017 New York City mayoral race. Former New York City Councilmember Sal Albanese didn’t meet polling and fundraising thresholds to gain admittance into televised debates, and he sued the city’s Campaign Finance Board seeking an injunction so he could take the stage. But Dearie ruled the finance board’s criteria were not partisan, subjective or discriminatory.

https://www.politico.com/news/2022/09/15/brooklyn-judge-raymond-dearie-mar-a-lago-00057085

Some observers believe that the judges on the FISA court that were deceived by FBI, are pissed they were lied to and were dragged into illegal FISA warrants. I think the only reason Weissmann and others approved of him, was to freak out the Trump side and than not want him. I believe Trump’s attorneys did a deep dive into the history of the two judges they proposed.

Sweden not well prepared for power shortages – Official

Heading into a winter of crisis in terms of energy rationing, Sweden lacks preparedness for possible power cuts, Jan-Olof Olsson, the head of supply preparedness at the Swedish civil contingencies agency MSB said.

"Unfortunately, preparedness is generally very poor. Back in 2011, we identified 50,000 socially important businesses in Sweden that depended on power supply," Olsson told public broadcaster SVT.

Power rationing could have an impact on traffic lights, trams, communications, and heating, in addition to properties' electronic locks, the broadcaster said.

The Swedish statistics agency revealed that power costs were up 29% in August. Energy prices have been driving other costs of living upwards, also leading food prices to rise for nine months in a row.

The EU has been preparing for a gas shortage this winter. On a proposal from the European Commission, European energy ministers had approved a 15% reduction in their gas consumption between August 1 and March 31, compared to their average consumption over the same period in the past five years.

Sweden, which has the highest gasoline prices in Europe, announced a temporary tax decrease in March as part of a $1.5 billion package of measures.

Sweden can provide 2,400 megawatts, but the country is also facing potential shortages and has already resorted to oil backup plants.

EU chief Ursula von der Leyen proposed on Wednesday that the bloc's 27 nations agree on placing a price cap on Russian gas imports.

Von der Leyen's decision comes as a means of imposing further sanctions on Russia as the West looks for more means of punishing the country over the Ukraine war.

Capping prices, as some Western countries are considering, "would be an absolutely stupid decision," Putin told the Eastern Economic Forum in the Pacific port city of Vladivostok.

The G7 industrialized nations pledged last week to work quickly to establish a price cap on Russian oil imports in order to cut off a key source of funding for Moscow's military activity in Ukraine.

Inflation sparks protests in Austria

Thousands of Austrians took to the streets on Saturday, enraged by the government's inaction in addressing rising living costs.

The Austrian trade union federation OeGB organized the nationwide protest to put pressure on the conservative-Green coalition, which it accused of "watching idly as our lives become unaffordable."

20,000 Austrians attended a "Prices Down" rally in downtown Vienna, as per OeGB. Meanwhile, the city police department refused to share their estimates.

In Linz, Bruck a der Mur, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Klagenfurt St. Polten, Eisenstadt, and Bregenz, another 10,000 people demonstrated.

Unionists accused the big businesses of taking advantage of private consumers who are struggling to pay skyrocketing energy, heating, as well as food bills.

Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen claimed that his position did not allow him to attend the rally, expressing solidarity with the protesters.

"This solidarity should not only be felt in the heart but, above all, in the wallet of those who are wondering how to pay for their shopping at the end of the month," he posted on social media.

In his account, Vienna Mayor Michael Ludwig stated that the skyrocketing rise in prices is a major challenge for a large portion of the population, voicing his support for the unionists' demand for pay raises.

Statistics Austria, an Austrian federal agency, said on Friday that inflation remained above the high level of 9% in August.

In August, inflation was 9.3 percent, 0.1 percentage points lower than the revised July rate of 9.4 percent. However, despite government anti-inflationary policies, energy and food prices have continued to rise, according to Statistics Austria.

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the US and the EU have multiplied punitive measures to isolate Russia by targeting its banking system and freezing the assets of its leaders and its industries.

Many of the consequences, such as higher gas, electricity, and food prices, have already occurred or will occur. Meanwhile, western citizens are bearing the brunt of the sanctions on Russia, as gas prices are rising in a suffocating manner.

US House Speaker Pelosi arrives in Armenia: Embassy

US House Speaker Pelosi arrived in Yerevan on Saturday for her first visit to the Caucasian country, as per the US embassy.

"U.S. Congressional Delegation led by Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi arrived in Yerevan for her first visit to Armenia. Welcome Madam Speaker!" the diplomatic mission said.

The embassy released photos of the senior Democrat getting out of a plane with House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone and Representatives Anna Eshoo and Jackie Speier.

It is reported that Pelosi will meet with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan, and other senior officials to discuss bilateral relations as well as the region's current security situation, which has seen a spike in violence this week.

This comes just a few days after a ceasefire was reached between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijani Haqqn news portal, which cited sources, revealed that Yerevan and Baku agreed to a truce at 05:00 GMT.

Armenia and Azerbaijan fought a 22-day war over the mountainous region in the fall of 2020. It ended in a Russia-brokered peace deal that saw the Armenian-dominated self-proclaimed Republic of Artsakh cede parts of Nagorno-Karabakh under its control to Azerbaijan.

The two countries agreed to a complete ceasefire and exchange of prisoners, while Russia deployed peacekeepers to the region.

However, clashes erupt every now and then between both sides despite the Russian-backed ceasefire agreement. Last month, tensions erupted over Nagorno-Karabakh as three soldiers were killed and Azerbaijan said it had taken control of several strategic heights in the disputed region.

The US will seek an immediate end to fighting between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Secretary of State Antony Blinken claimed in calls with leaders of the two countries amid renewed shelling on the border.

According to Secretary of State Antony Blinken, it would be a "good thing" if Russia could utilize its clout in the area to end hostilities between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

In the same context, Iran has expressed its readiness to help settle the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. It is calling for restraint and resolution of disagreements through peaceful means and based on international law, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said.

New UK PM’s meeting with Biden canceled

Liz Truss will not meet the US president this weekend despite keeping other heads of state on her calendar. A planned meeting between the new UK Prime Minister and US President Joe Biden in London has been called off, even as Liz Truss keeps Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and other world leaders on her calendar for talks this weekend prior to Queen Elizabeth’s funeral on Monday.

The queen died last week, just two days after directing Truss to form a government, and the flock of world leaders traveling to her funeral has created an opportunity for the new prime minister to score diplomatic points with the visiting heads of state.

However, the PM’s office announced on Saturday that Sunday’s planned face-to-face talks with Biden had been called off.

Downing Street offered no explanation for the scheduling change. Truss and Biden plan to hold a “full bilateral meeting” on Wednesday, when both leaders will be in New York City for the UN General Assembly. The queen’s funeral is scheduled for Monday.

Biden, who was one of the first world leaders to confirm his attendance at the funeral, left the White House on Saturday afternoon for his flight to London. It was unclear who called off the talks, but Biden was reportedly already aboard Air Force One when the meeting cancellation was announced.

The Royal African Company (RAC) was an English mercantile (trading) company set up in 1660 by the royal Stuart family and City of London merchants to trade along the west coast of Africa.[1] It was led by the Duke of York, who was the brother of King Charles II and in 1685, York took the throne as James II. The RAC shipped more African slaves to the Americas than any other company in the history of the Atlantic slave trade, and was owned entirely by the British Crown.[2][3]

It was established after Charles II gained the English throne in the Restoration of 1660.[4] While its original purpose was to exploit the gold fields up the Gambia River, which were identified by Prince Rupert during the Interregnum, it soon developed and led a brutal and sustained slave trade.[3] It also extracted other commodities, mainly from the Gold Coast. After becoming insolvent in 1708, it survived in a state of much reduced activity until 1752 when its assets were transferred to the new African Company of Merchants, which lasted until 1821.

Between 1672 and 1731, the Royal African Company transported 187,697 enslaved people on company-owned ships (653 voyages) to English colonies in the Americas. Of those transported, 38,497 enslaved people died en route.[17] The predecessor "Company of Royal Adventurers" (1662 - 1672) transported 26,925 enslaved people on company-owned ships (104 voyages), of whom 6,620 died during the passage.[17]

The company continued purchasing and transporting slaves until 1731, when it abandoned slaving in favour of ivory and gold dust.[24]

From 1668 to 1722, the Royal African Company provided gold to the English Mint. Coins made with such gold are designed with an elephant below the bust of the king and/or queen. This gold also gave the coinage its name, the guinea.

Thousands of French protestors demand withdrawal from NATO and EU

Several thousand protestors gathered on Paris' Palais-Royal Square on Saturday after the right-wing Patriots party called for the resignation of French President Emmanuel Macron, according to a Sputnik correspondent.

The Patriots once again called for protests after the initial demonstrations that took place on September 3rd. The protesters want Macron to leave office and withdraw from both NATO and the EU.

With only 40% of the French population in favor of the anti-Russian sanctions, the most recent Elabe poll revealed that support for anti-Russian sanctions is on the decline across France. The poll showed that 32% of French people believed that anti-Russia sanctions must be restricted to diminish their effect on the livelihoods of the French people. However, a staggering 27%, more than half of those who support sanctions against Russia, have stated that they are against economic sanctions altogether.

Since 2021, energy costs, across the EU, have been rising as part of a global trend. Fuel costs have skyrocketed since the start of the war in Ukraine and the adoption of various multiple sanction packages against Moscow by the West, prompting several European countries to take emergency measures.

Divided opinions

With the increase in demand for power, a number of nations have declared a desire to build nuclear infrastructure, including China, which already possesses the most reactors, the Czech Republic, India, and Poland since nuclear energy provides an alternative to coal.

Similar goals are shared by the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, and even the United States, where President Joe Biden's investment plan promotes the growth of the sector.

Due to the possibility of catastrophic accidents and the ongoing debate over how to adequately dispose of radioactive waste, IPCC experts acknowledge that the use of nuclear energy "can be constrained by societal preferences."

Some countries, like New Zealand, oppose nuclear, and the issue has also been hotly debated in the European Union over whether it should be listed as "green" energy.

NATO planned bloc’s expansion near Russia's borders years ago

The head of NATO's Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer, stated on Saturday that NATO began planning its expansion near Russia's borders several years ago.

Earlier on Saturday, the NATO Military Committee met in Estonia, where Supreme Allied Commander Europe General Christopher Cavoli outlined to NATO member countries his strategic considerations for NATO's efforts on the eastern flank, among other things.

"We’re talking about the biggest overhaul of our military structures since 1949. The planning for that started several years ago, but now we’re implementing it," Bauer said at a press conference.

NATO leaders agreed on a plan for a significant build-up of the alliance's forces at the end of June, on the eastern flank by 2023, amid Russia's military operation in Ukraine.

The alliance revealed plans to increase the number of prepared forces on the eastern flank to more than 300,000 soldiers in the near future. In addition, it intends to increase the composition of combat groups to the brigade level.

Moreover, NATO countries pledged to increase defense spending.

NATO is closely collaborating with the defense sector to restock its arsenal, which has been depleted as a result of the supply of armaments to Ukraine by the bloc, according to the NATO Secretary-General.

"NATO is working closely with defense industry in order to replenish stocks for the military equipment the allies have sent to Ukraine," Stoltenberg said on the sidelines of a forum organized by US magazine Foreign Policy, adding that NATO countries were also asking defense companies to ramp up their production.

The Secretary-General added that the need for additional help for Ukraine was still urgent, and it was crucial to make sure that the bloc had adequate weapons and other equipment to stockpile and support Kiev militarily.

Germany, one of the NATO countries actively selling weapons to Ukraine, hit its cap on arms supplies to Kiev last week, according to German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht.

Macron's party officially changes name to Renaissance

On the evening of the first round of the presidential election, French President Emmanuel Macron decided to change the name of his party to Renaissance, according to french media.

On September 16 and 17, Macron called on his supporters to get down to practical work and "refound" La République en Marche (LRM).

It is unclear how many of his supporters voted, but the President thanked "all those who, for six years and until this evening, committed themselves to work alongside me to transcend their differences, to come together in a great political movement."

After two days of voting by members on the new statutes and the new leadership, the leading political party will officially be renamed Renaissance on Sunday evening.

The results will be unveiled at a founding party congress, where Renaissance's leader, Stéphane Séjourné, will deliver a speech.

Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne wants a party that is “open, transgressive, innovative."

Stanislas Guerini, the outgoing Secretary-General, defines Renaissance as “the party that defends freedoms, all freedoms."

Stéphane Séjourné speaks of “radical reformism” in what may sound like an oxymoron.

The four pillars are ecology, where the Secretary-General said, "We are the only green party in government," work, with Elisabeth Borne saying, "We are proud to make it a cardinal value," equal opportunities, and the fight against discrimination and finally sovereignty “which goes through Europe," added the Prime Minister.

However, within a short time span, the President had to lower his ambitions.

The desire to found a single unifying party has been reduced to a merger between LRM and only two small satellite parties: the center-left Territoires de Progrès led by Labor Minister Olivier Dussopt and center-right Agir led by Franck Riester, the minister of relations with Parliament.

La République en Marche's two allies, François Bayrou's centrist MoDem and Edouard Philippe's center-right Horizons, are reluctant to lose their autonomy.

En Commun, the majority's environmentalists branch led by the former environment minister Barbara Pompili and former MP Hugues Renson, does not intend to merge either.

Renaissance is a political project put together by Séjourné, in conjunction with the Elysée, and is intended to prepare the best process for designating a successor to Emmanuel Macron in 2027, when he reaches the end of his second term.

Some important political figures who have long been disinterested in LRM have decided to step in.

While Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin will be responsible for training party members, Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire will be in charge of ideas.

Pelosi offers US security assistance to Russian ally

The sovereignty of Armenia is of value to America, the House speaker claims

US House Speaker Nanacy Pelosi blamed Azerbaijan for the current flareup with Armenia and offered security assistance to Yerevan, as she arrived to the Armenian capital on Sunday.

Pelosi said her trip was of prime importance in view of the “illegal and deadly attacks by Azerbaijan on Armenian territory.”

“We strongly condemn those attacks. This was initiated by the Azeris and there has to be recognition of that,” she insisted.

Border clashes erupted between Armenia and Azerbaijan on Tuesday, with both sides accusing each other of initiating the violence. Yerevan has said it lost 135 troops in the fighting, with Baku putting its death toll at 79 soldiers.

The two former Soviet republics remain at odds over the Nagorno-Karabakh region, which has been controlled by ethnic Armenian forces, supported by Yerevan, since the 1990s, but is claimed by Azerbaijan as part of its territory.

The neighboring countries fought a 44-day war over Nagorno-Karabakh in 2020, which ended with a Russia-brokered truce and the ceding of some territories to Baku.

“The territorial security and sovereignty of Armenia, the democracy of Armenia is of value to us in America. In our relationships with other countries we should be using our influence, our leverage, showing that Armenian democracy and sovereignty are a priority,” Pelosi insisted.

The resolution condemning Azerbaijan’s aggressive action Armenia will be taken up in Congress soon, the third-highest-ranking US official promised.

Also on Sunday, dozens of people staged a rally in Yerevan demanding that Armenia quit the Russia-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). The demonstrators chanted slogans, while carrying Armenian and US national flags.

Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan earlier addressed CSTO for help amid the current crisis, with Baku offering Yerevan a truce shortly after that. The bloc sent a joint mission to Armenia, but refrained from sending military forces, prompting dissatisfaction from Armenian officials.

Pelosi’s previous visit to another global hotspot – Taiwan – provoked a major spike in tensions between the US and China last month.

American military leaders may have violated federal law in apparent rapid-fire denials of religious exemptions to the Defense Department’s COVID-19 vaccination mandate, a national religious civil liberties law firm said late Friday. Memos obtained by Liberty Counsel written by acting DOD Inspector General Sean O’Donnell said the official warned Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin of “deliberate violation[s] of federal law” within the agency over the way denial requests were processed and turndowns were issued, the group said.(Snip)Assuming a 10-hour work day with no breaks or attention to other matters, the average review period was about 12 minutes for each package.
