Trump-Backed Candidates Sweep Board Day After FBI Raids Mar-A-Lago

Candidates endorsed by former President Donald J. Trump had another immaculate night in statewide and federal races Tuesday, just a day after the Federal Bureau of Investigation raided Mar-a-Lago. Hisendorsement record now stands at 192-11.

Businessman Tim Michels, who served as a U.S. Army ranger for 12 years, beat out his opponent, Rebecca Kleefisch, for the Republican gubernatorial nomination in Wisconsin, Dave Wasserman of the Cook Report declared.

As the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel notes, Trump endorsed Michels back in June.

“Wisconsin needs a Governor who will Stop Inflation, Uphold the Rule of Law, strengthen our Borders (we had the strongest borders in history just two years ago, now we have the weakest!) and End the well-documented Fraud in our Elections,” Trump wrote.

“Tim Michels is the best candidate to deliver meaningful solutions to these problems, and he will produce jobs like no one else can even imagine,” he added.

Five other candidates backed by the 45th president in the Cheese State advanced to the general election Tuesday at the federal level, according to the Associated Press election results compiled by the New York Times. At least one candidate in the state legislature earned her nomination:

Rep. Bryan Steil (R-WI) – GOP nominee for the First Congressional District

Derrick Van Orden – GOP nominee for the Third Congressional District

Rep. Scott Fitzgerald (R-WI) – GOP nominee for the Fifth Congressional District

Rep. Tom Tiffany (R-WI) – GOP nominee for the Seventh Congressional District

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) – GOP nominee for U.S. Senate

State Assemblywoman Janel Brandtjen (R-22) – GOP nominee for District 22

In Connecticut, Leora Levy won the GOP U.S. Senate primary over Themis Klarides and Peter Lumaj. Levy, the national Republican committeewoman for Connecticut, received Trump’s endorsement on Thursday, when Trump slammed her general election opponent, Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT).

“Leora Levy is running to represent the Great State of Connecticut in the United States Senate,” Trump said. “The current Senator is a mocked and laughed at fool, who said for many years that he was a brave war hero in Vietnam, when the facts later revealed that he had never even been to Vietnam.”

Trump praised Levy, who is a Cuban-born American:

In the Senate, she will work hard to Grow the Economy, Secure the Border, Fight for Energy Independence, Support our Military and our Vets, champion Election Integrity, Protect the Second Amendment, and Fight Violent and Vicious Crime, which is at the highest level in Connecticut history.

Levy appeared on Breitbart News Saturdayover the weekend and called the 45th president’s backing an “honor” Her victory puts his endorsement record among U.S. Senate candidates a a perfect 17-0.

Additionally, all three Trump-backed candidates clinched nominations in Minnesota Tuesday:

Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN) – GOP nominee for the Sixth Congressional District

Rep. Michelle Fischbach (R-MN) – GOP nominee for the Seventh Congressional District

Rep. Pete Stauber (R-MN): GOP nominee for the Eighth Congressional District

The sweeping victories make Trump’s endorsement record immaculate in 31 states.

Liz Cheney’s Husband’s Law Firm Advises CCP-Linked Technology Firm

Rep. Liz Cheney’s (R-WY) husband’s law firm, Latham & Watkins, has advised a Chinese Communist Party-linked technology company named Tencent Music Entertainment or “TME.” Liz Cheney is up for reelection in Wyoming’s August 16 primary against Trump-endorsed Harriet Hageman, who has been outspoken against the CCP.

While Cheney campaigns for another two years in office, her husband, Philip Perry, has connections to one of the United States’ greatest adversaries. Perry’s law firm has a close working relationship with TME, which the State Department in 2019 dubbed a tool of the Chinese government.

Christopher Ashley Ford, assistant secretary of the U.S. State Department’s bureau of international security and nonproliferation, told Quartz about the dangers of TME’s relationship with CCP. “Whether de facto or de jure, such giants can in some important respects or for some purposes act as arms of the state—or, more precisely, the Chinese Communist Party, to which the Chinese state apparatus is itself subordinate,” he said about Latham & Watkins’s client and the CCP.

According to Latham & Watkins’s press release, the firm has advised TME on acquisitions and has celebrated its client as the “market leader in interactive virtual entertainment experiences” in Communist China. TME has positioned itself as the “leading online music and audio entertainment platform in China,” Yahoo Finance reported.

TME is not just a music company, it is “a foundation of technology-facilitated surveillance and social control” for Communist China, which is built upon the “China Dream” or “China Model,” Ford further explained. Along with Chinese companies like Alibaba, Ford said, “these companies export their products and services to the rest of the world, the security and human rights problems associated with this ‘China Model’ are progressively exported with them.”

Cheney’s husband’s law firm has not only advised TME, a CCP-linked company, but has lobbied on behalf of companies with ties to the CCP...

In 2011, Exelon Corporation agreed to provide consulting and training services to an arm of the state-owned China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), according to the Wall Street Journal. The state-owned CNNC’s president and vice president are appointed by the highest administrative position in the Government of China, the Premier of the People’s Republic of China. The CNNC supervises all facets of China’s nuclear programs.

“Exelon Corp. will provide consulting and training services to an arm of state-owned China National Nuclear Corp., in a signal that China’s secretive state-owned nuclear companies are determined to learn Western safety practices and other expertise in the aftermath of Japan’s nuclear incident in March,” the Journal reported in 2011. “As part of the deal disclosed on Friday, instructors from Chicago-based Exelon will be stationed at Qinshan Nuclear Power Station in China’s eastern Zhejiang province.”...

Liz Cheney’s opponent, Hageman, has slammed Cheney and her husband for his connections to the CCP-liked companies. Hageman believes the Perry family is “personally” and “financially benefiting from working for China,” Hageman told Just the News.

“He has a choice, he can either work with his firm and take the stand that his wife is apparently advocating publicly, and say, ‘We’re not going to represent countries or companies that, number one have problems with human rights abuses, and number two, who are really kind of in a soft war with the United States.’ Or you can go to another law firm,” Hageman added. “Have some integrity.”...

Cheney’s alliance with Democrats also extends to the partisan January 6 Committee, which has sought to investigate the January 6 incident without focusing on the alleged FBI informants at the Capitol. Cheney is one of ten Republicans who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump. If she loses the August 16 primary, only two pro-impeachment Republicans will remain in office.

Cheney’s alliance with Democrats and fixation on Trump caused the Wyoming Republican Party in 2021 to excommunicate their representative from the state in which she is no longer recognized as a Republican. Since then, Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), and former Wyoming Rep. Barbara Cubin have all endorsed Hageman.

According to PredictIt odds,Cheney has only a four-cent chance on the dollar of winning. Trump-endorsed Harriet Hageman is favored by 97 cents on the dollar.

As Bill Shakespeare once wrote, "the past is prologue." This week, as the FBI raided Donald Trump's Mar-A-Lago retreat, it's worth looking at the past and how the DOJ got to this place under the leadership of Merrick Garland, Obama's failed Supreme Court nominee-turned Biden's Attorney General.

Even before President Joe Biden took office, he announced his intention to nominate Garland to be his Attorney General. The Senate Judiciary Committee, in charge of evaluating such presidential nominees, then conducted its confirmation hearings for Garland in February 2021. At the conclusion of those hearings, Garland received a favorable recommendation from the committee, thanks to support for Republicans.

In addition to all the Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee, Senators Chuck Grassley of Iowa, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, John Cornyn of Texas, and Thom Tillis of North Carolina supported Garland's nomination.

Then, on March 10, 2021, when Garland's nomination came before the full Senate for a vote, he was confirmed in a 70-30 vote. Again, in addition to every Democrat senator, a number of Republicans voted to make Merrick Garland the Attorney General of the United States.

The 20 GOP senators joining Democrats to confirm Garland were:

Roy Blunt of Missouri, Richard Burr of North Carolina, Shelley Moore Capitol of West Virginia, Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, Susan Collins of Maine, John Cornyn of Texas, Joni Ernst of Iowa, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Chuck Grassley of Iowa, Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma, Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, James Lankford of Oklahoma, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, Jerry Moran of Kansas, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Rob Portman of Ohio, Mitt Romney of Utah, Mike Rounds of South Dakota, John Thune of South Dakota, and Thom Tillis of North Carolina.

Where are these Republicans now that the FBI has raided Mar-A-Lago on Garland's watch? Seemingly missing in action and conspicuously quiet about the search of Trump's "Southern White House."

In the wake of the DOJ's escalating offensive against Donald Trump, a question is begged: Do these Republicans who supported Garland's nomination and voted to make him Biden's attorney general still support him and what his department is doing?

It's hardly worth pestering their offices for questions. That's because last October, as the Garland DOJ was busting norms and politicizing his department to go after any number of Republicans and conservative causes our friend Amber Athey asked that same question. In a piece for The Spectator on her quest to find out whether those 20 Republicans had confirmer's remorse, she revealed that not a single Senator agreed to comment.

Showing an example of what Republicans ought to be doing in the wake of the FBI's unprecedented raid on a political opponent of the current administration is Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO), who quickly called for Garland's resignation or impeachment — plus more information from the DOJ and FBI about the search that was conducted on Monday.

We’ve reached the stage of American history where everything we see on the news must first be understood as political theater. In other words, the messaging layer of news now almost always dominates the factual narrative, with the latter often reported so unreliably as to be meaningless anyway. Yesterday’s sensational tale of the FBI raiding the Mar-a-Lago home of former president Donald Trump is no different.

As of now, it’s impossible to say if Trump’s alleged offense was great, small, or in between. But this for sure is a huge story, and its hugeness extends in multiple directions, including the extraordinary political risk inherent in the decision to execute the raid. If it backfires, if underlying this action there isn’t a very substantial there there, the Biden administration just took the world’s most reputable police force and turned it into the American version of the Tonton Macoute on national television. We may be looking at simultaneously the dumbest and most inadvertently destructive political gambit in the recent history of this country.

The top story today in the New York Times, bylined by its top White House reporter, speculates this is about “delayed returning” of “15 boxes of material requested by officials with the National Archives.” If that’s true, and it’s not tied to January 6th or some other far more serious offense, then the Justice Department just committed institutional suicide and moved the country many steps closer to once far-out eventualities like national revolt or martial law. This is true no matter what you think of Trump. Despite the early reports of “cheers” in the West Wing, the mood in center-left media has already drifted markedly from the overnight celebration. The Times story today added a line missing from most early reports: “The search, however, does not mean prosecutors have determined that Mr. Trump committed a crime.” There are whispers throughout the business that editors are striking down certain jubilant language, and we can even see this playing out on cable, where the most craven of the networks’ on-air ex-spooks are crab-crawling backward from last night’s buzz-words:

Former President Donald Trump invoked his Fifth Amendment rights and declined to answer questions from the New York attorney general at a scheduled deposition Wednesday.

Trump was to be deposed by lawyers from New York Attorney General Letitia James' office as part of a more than three-year civil investigation into the Trump Organization's finances.

Polish newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza reported on Tuesday that up to 100,000 tons of chemical weapons of Nazi Germany left after World War II could be resting at the bottom of the Baltic Sea ready to trigger an environmental disaster as they corrode over time.

Gazeta Wyborcza wrote that between 40,000 to 100,000 tons of war-era weaponry lie at the bottom of various parts of the Baltic Sea.

"The exact quantity is difficult to estimate today," the paper wrote. "It is similarly difficult to precisely define all the dumping sites. After the Potsdam conference, soldiers of the Soviet Union who disarmed ammunition depots in Poland and Germany were responsible for 'neutralising' German chemical weapons."

According to the newspaper, the chemical weapons in question are mainly barrels of mustard gas, aviation bombs, and mines containing chemical warfare agents, mainly mustard and arsenic.

The article reported that research by the Polish Academy of Sciences between 2011 and 2019 showed that mustard gas bombs pollute the sea to a radius of up to 70 meters, killing subaquatic flora and fauna.

Nazi chemical weapons were buried in the Baltic Sea in the first years after World War II by the decision of a specially created Trilateral Commission, comprising the US, the UK, and the Soviet Union.

The Gotland Basin in the sea's center between Sweden and the Baltic states was initially selected as the main dumping site.

"However the route turned out to be too far for the Russians," the paper wrote. "Tonnes of barrels were thrown from vessels at random places on the convoy routes. Crates of chemical weapons drifted until the wood decayed. Later they were carried by the currents to sit on the sea bed."

A second selected dumping site was the Bornholm Basin to the east of the Danish island of Bornholm, where according to official Soviet records, around 40,000 tons of weapons were dumped at a depth of about 100 meters.

Dozens of tons were also dumped in the Gdansk Basin near northern Poland's Hel Peninsula.

Last week, it was reported that a series of explosions took place in a police depot that contained Nazi-era explosives. This incident sparked a massive fire in the Grunewald forest, which took many hours to contain.

Munitions dating back to World War II are not uncommon finds in Germany and other EU countries.

Former Twitter employee convicted for spying for Saudi Arabia

A former Twitter employee was convicted Tuesday of charges related to spying on behalf of Saudi Arabia. Ahmad Abouammo, a 44-year-old dual US-Lebanese citizen, obtained information on dissidents who used the platform.

Abouammo was found guilty on 6 of 11 counts by a San Fransico federal jury, after a trial that lasted three weeks. One of the counts was acting as an agent for a foreign government without notifying US officials.

This would mark the first reported time Riyadh is connected to a spying case in the US, according to AP.

In 2019, Abouammo and two others, Ali Alzabarah and Ahmed Almutairi, were charged with an indictment for acting as agents for Riyadh without notification to the attorney general as required by law, according to the US Attorney Office.

According to Reuters, Abouammo helped oversee relationships on Twitter with journalists and celebrities in the Middle East and North Africa.

Abouammo was convicted on two counts of wire fraud or conspiracy to commit wire fraud, two counts of money laundering, one count of falsifying records, and one count of acting as an agent for a foreign country with no disclosure. However, the jury found him not guilty on 5 counts of wire fraud or conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

In addition, he was also charged with obstruction of justice for providing false documents to the FBI about his payments from a Riyadh official.

Prosecutors divulge that Mohammed bin Salman's advisor handed Abouammo a minimum amount of $300,000 along with a $20,000 luxury watch, according to Reuters. Abouammo has been hiding the spy money by depositing it in a relative's account in Lebanon, and having it wired to his own account in the US.

"The government demonstrated, and the jury found, that Abouammo violated a sacred trust to keep private personal information from Twitter's customers and sold private customer information to a foreign government," US Attorney Stephanie Hinds said in a statement, per Reuters.

US-KSA diplomatic struggle

The allegations resurfaced in light of US President Joe Biden's first visit to the country, which he had previously sworn to make a "pariah", last week, in the hopes of establishing better Saudi-Israeli relations and relief from high gas prices.

Biden met with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) and other Saudi officials. Human rights campaigners, meanwhile, slammed the visit, accusing the President of ignoring the death of Jamal Khashoggi, a Washington Post journalist killed by Saudi operatives in 2018.

Abouammo and another former Twitter employee, Ali Alzabarah, were charged in 2019. According to the Justice Department, the individuals exploited their Twitter accounts to gather information about thousands of people, which they then provided to Ahmed Almutairi, who the department claims served as their go-between with Saudi officials.

It is worth mentioning that Almutairi previously owned a social media marketing firm that provided services to the Saudi royal family.

According to the Justice Department, the men obtained "private user data, such as device identifiers, phone numbers, and IP addresses, all of which may have been utilized by the Saudi government to identify and locate the individuals behind the accounts, including political dissidents."

Bank experts argued that the energy crisis and rising prices are ruining the British economy.

A research note published on Monday by Christopher Dembik, head of macro analysis at Saxo Bank, showed that the UK is "more and more looking like an emerging market country," according to a CNBC report. The expert cited a number of key signs as causes for this decline in the economy, including political unrest, trade interruptions, an energy crisis, and sharply rising inflation.

Dembik said that “What Brexit has not done by itself, Brexit coupled with Covid and high inflation have succeeded in doing,” adding that “The UK economy is crushed.”

The macro analyst said that what is holding the UK economy back from becoming officially characterized as an emerging market country is the lack of a currency crisis. The British pound sterling holding firm in spite of all circumstances.

Bemdik said that the British pound “only dropped 0.70% against the euro and 1.50% against the US dollar over the past week,” adding that “Our bet: After surviving Brexit uncertainty, we don’t see what could push the sterling pound into a free fall.”

The Saxo expert said, however, that all indications point to further economic hardship in the future for the nation. He noted a decline of 14% year-on-year in new vehicle registrations in July 2021. The decrease was from 1.835 million to 1.528 million, which is sometimes seen as a leading predictor of the health of the British economy.

“This is the lowest level since the end of the 1970s,” Denbik noted, adding, “The recession will be long and deep. There won’t be an easy escape. This is most worrying, in our view. The Bank of England assesses the slump will last with GDP still 1.75% below today’s levels in mid-2025.”

Last week, the Bank of England cautioned that the country's economy, later this year, will mark its longest recession since the Great Financial Crisis in 2008 as the economic output continues to decline from the fourth quarter of 2022 and is predicted to go through to the fourth quarter of 2023. Inflation is expected, according to bank analysts, to increase to 13.3% in October. A 3.9% increase from June of this year which marked inflation of 9.4%.

The Bank of England warned last week that the UK economy will enter its longest recession since the Great Financial Crisis later this year, with economic output declining each quarter from the fourth quarter of 2022 through the fourth quarter of 2023. Soaring natural gas prices are likely to drive consumer price inflation to 13.3% in October, from 9.4% in June, the bank projected.

DC Bar Restores Convicted FBI Russiagate Forger While He’s Still Serving Probation

A former senior FBI lawyer who falsified a surveillance document in the Trump-Russia investigation has been restored as a member in “good standing” by the District of Columbia Bar Association even though he has yet to finish serving out his probation as a convicted felon, according to disciplinary records obtained by RealClearInvestigations.

The move is the latest in a series of exceptions the bar has made for Kevin Clinesmith, who pleaded guilty in August 2020 to doctoring an email used to justify a surveillance warrant targeting former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.

Clinesmith was sentenced to 12 months probation last January. But the D.C. Bar did not seek his disbarment, as is customary after lawyers are convicted of serious crimes involving the administration of justice. In this case, it did not even initiate disciplinary proceedings against him until February of this year — five months after he pleaded guilty and four days after RealClearInvestigations first reported he had not been disciplined.

After the negative publicity, the bar temporarily suspended Clinesmith pending a review and hearing. Then in September, the court that oversees the bar and imposes sanctions agreed with its recommendation to let Clinesmith off suspension with time served; the bar, in turn, restored his status to “active member” in “good standing.”

Before quietly making that decision, however, records indicate the bar did not check with his probation officer to see if he had violated the terms of his sentence or if he had completed the community service requirement of volunteering 400 hours.

To fulfill the terms of his probation, Clinesmith volunteered at Street Sense Media in Washington but stopped working at the nonprofit group last summer, which has not been previously reported. “I can confirm he was a volunteer here,” Street Sense editorial director Eric Falquero told RCI, without elaborating about how many hours he worked. Clinesmith had helped edit and research articles for the weekly newspaper, which coaches the homeless on how to “sleep on the streets” and calls for a “universal living wage” and prison reform.

According to Beijing’s ambassador in Moscow, in this way Washington is seeking to “exhaust and crush Russia”

Washington is seeking to prolong the conflict in Ukraine as much as possible in order to weaken Moscow, China’s ambassador to Russia has suggested.

In an interview with Russia’s TASS news agency published on Wednesday, Zhang Hanhui said, among other things, that it was the US that had initiated “five rounds of NATO’s eastward expansion, directed the ‘color revolution’ in Ukraine’ and ‘driven Russia into a corner’ in terms of security.” According to the diplomat, all these factors combined led to the current conflict in Ukraine.

He went on to describe the US as the “initiator and chief arsonist of the Ukraine crisis.”

Zhang claimed that by slapping Moscow with “unprecedented” sanctions and providing Kiev with yet more weapons, Washington is seeking to prolong the armed conflict for as long as possible. This strategy is aimed at “exhausting and crushing Russia” eventually.

The Chinese ambassador noted that he saw parallels between the conflict in Ukraine and the latest escalation around Taiwan. He alleged that the White House is deploying the kind of tools it previously used in the Eastern European country.

According to the diplomat, the fact that the US is “flexing its muscles” on China’s doorstep, arranging “various anti-China groups, and has now openly crossed all borders on the issue of Taiwan” just goes to prove his assessment. He dubbed this as nothing short of an “Asian-Pacific version of ‘NATO’s eastward expansion’.”

The envoy pointed out that the US is pursuing effectively the same goals with respect to China as it is vis-à-vis Russia – to “hinder the development and rise of China, interfere in its internal affairs” as well as to “exhaust and contain it with the help of war and sanctions.”

The official went on to argue that both the crisis in Ukraine and Nancy Pelosi’s latest visit to Taiwan indicate that Washington is intent on reviving the Cold War mentality.

Moreover, this new Cold War is already underway, the Chinese ambassador claimed.

Zhang described the US as a force which is destroying international rules and causing instability and uncertainty the world over. Washington’s hegemony and reliance on force are the “greatest challenge to progress and the peaceful development of human civilization,” he added.

The ambassador reminded the US that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China and has been since time immemorial, meaning that any issues surrounding the island are solely China’s own internal affairs. He also stressed that “today’s China is not the China of one hundred years ago, which was poor and weak, and let others decide its fate.”

The diplomat noted that Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan will not change the “historic and legal reality” of the island being part of China, nor will it stop the “historic tendency of China’s complete reunification.”

Weather Modification in North Vietnam and Laos (Project Popeye)

Proposal

1. The Department of Defense has requested our approval to initiate the operational phase of Project Popeye in selected areas (map at clip)2 along the infiltration routes in North Vietnam and southern Laos. The objective of the program is to produce sufficient rainfall along these lines of communication to interdict or at least interfere with truck traffic between North and South Vietnam. Recently improved cloud seeding techniques would be applied on a sustained basis, in a non-publicized effort to induce continued rainfall through the months of the normal dry season.

Background

2. A test phase of Project Popeye was approved by State and Defense and conducted during October 1966 in a strip of the Lao Panhandle generally east of the Bolovens Plateau in the valley of the Se Kong River. The test was conducted without consultation with Lao authorities (but with Ambassador Sullivan’s knowledge and concurrence) and, to the best of our knowledge, remains unknown to other than a severely limited number of U.S. officials.

3. During the test phase, more than 50 cloud seeding experiments were conducted. The results are viewed by DOD as outstandingly successful.

(a)

82% of the clouds seeded produced rain within a brief period after seeding—a percentage appreciably higher than normal expectation in the absence of seeding.

(b)

The amount of rainfall induced by seeding is believed to have been sufficient to have contributed substantially to rendering vehicular routes in this area inoperable. Since the end of the rainy season, the communists have failed to undertake route repairs and there has been no vehicular traffic.

(c)

In one instance, the rainfall continued as the cloud moved eastward across the Vietnam border and inundated a U.S. Special Forces camp with nine inches of rain in four hours.

(d)

DOD scientists consider that the experiment demonstrated a capacity to raise and maintain rainfall under controlled conditions to the level at which the land is saturated over a sustained period, slowing movement on foot and rendering the operation of vehicles impracticable.

A special meeting of the cabinet started at 11.30 am local time (02:30 am GMT). The new Japanese government led by Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is expected to be announced soon.

Twitter Suspends Russian Foreign Ministry Account For COVID Origins Theory

Twitter has temporarily frozen the official English-language account of the Russian Foreign Ministry for a period seven days, reportedly for an August 4th tweet blaming the United States for the coronavirus pandemic.

The offending tweet stated that "the U.S. and its allies in Ukraine and elsewhere" might be "involved" in the "emergence of COVID-19." A Tuesday statement from the Kremlin condemned the Twitter crackdown as but another attempt to censor the Russian government perspective.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova slammed the move as "another clumsy attempt to shut us up" while saying Russia's assertion was made based on "documents and fresh data" - but that the US social media company doesn't have the competence to review and judge it.

The initial accusation particularly focused on the alleged actions of the US Agency for International Development, or USAID, under director Samantha Power.

While the tweet is still visible online, a warning label has been added by Twitter stating that it violated its rules on "sharing false or misleading info that might bring harm to crisis-affected populations."

The last tweet that the verified Russian MFA account sent was Aug. 4 - thus the account has likely been blocked and unable to tweet since then.

More broadly this follows the US and European Union banning Russian state TV networks, particularly the international news channels RT and Sputnik - actions taken by YouTube as well.

An online job posting for special agents within the law enforcement branch of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is causing a stir on social media, as Congress prepares to pass a spending bill that would greatly expand the federal agency.

A link to a job posting for "Criminal Investigation Special Agents" appeared to have been briefly deleted on Wednesday, following online criticism of the posting's language, though it reappeared back online after a FOX Business inquiry to the agency.

A "key requirement" for applicants is that they have to be "legally allowed to carry a firearm," and "major duties" include, "Carry a firearm and be willing to use deadly force, if necessary," and, "Be willing and able to participate in arrests, execution of search warrants, and other dangerous assignments," according to the job posting.

The requirement that agents be willing to use "deadly force, if necessary" drew heated criticism online, although the same language appears in job postings for other law enforcement agencies, such as the FBI.

Geneva, Switzerland, 18 January 2022 – Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio called for a new form of liberal democratic capitalism, balancing economic growth and distribution, in a special address to business, government and civil society leaders taking part in the World Economic Forum’s virtual event, the Davos Agenda 2022.

“A key focus of my administration will be the revitalization of Japan through a new form a capitalism,” he said. Unfettered state capitalism without adequate checks and balances produces problems such as widening income gaps, rural-urban disparities and social tensions, he added.

Kishida emphasized that the time has come for “historic economic and social transformations”. He said Japan will pioneer a new form of public-private partnership, with leaders of government, industry and labour all working together to develop paradigm-shifting policies. “There has been an overreliance on competition and self-regulation to constrain the excesses of market forces,” he added. “This must change.”

These reforms will build on emerging strength shown by Japan’s economy. However, he reiterated that current policies are not sufficient to ensure that growth is sustainable and inclusive.

The prime minister called for Japan to lead the world in green transformation. He said investment in green technology “will be more than doubled” and become an engine of growth. He also announced that a carbon pricing system will be introduced as soon as possible and Japan will continue to support the Asian emissions trading market.

“Japan remains committed to the Paris Agreement and will achieve carbon neutrality by 2050,” he said. Private and public sector leadership will work tightly together on the demand and the supply side to support the transformation. One focus for Japan’s clean energy strategy is to reform the energy sector, which accounts for more than 80% of greenhouse gas emissions. Smart grids, upgraded power and distribution networks as well as low-carbon energy sources like solar and wind energy are all part of the solution, he said.

Another important pillar for Japan’s transformation is digitization. “While Japan has traditionally lagged in digital uptake, COVID-19 has given Japan a chance to leap-frog its digitization efforts,” Kishida said. To support this, the government will invest heavily in next-generation networks, optical fibre and 5G-related infrastructure – extending it to 90% of the population over two years.

Kishida also laid out plans for increased corporate disclosure to encourage investment in human capital. “Investment in people is often regarded as a cost, but it is a source of medium to long-term corporate value,” he said.

NASA will hold a trio of media teleconferences the week of Aug. 14 to preview the science and technology payloads that will fly as part of the agency’s Artemis I flight test. NASA also will provide livestream coverage of Artemis I’s move to the launch pad ahead of its targeted no earlier than Monday Aug. 29 liftoff.

Artemis I is an uncrewed flight test, the first in a series of increasingly complex missions to the Moon. Through Artemis, NASA will land the first woman and the first person of color on the Moon, paving the way for a long-term lunar presence and serving as a steppingstone to send astronauts to Mars.

Ten shoebox-size secondary payloads, called CubeSats, are hitching a ride to space on Artemis I’s Space Launch System (SLS) rocket, and several other investigations are flying inside the Orion spacecraft during the flight test. Each of the payloads will perform science and technology experiments in deep space, expanding understanding of lunar science, technology developments, and deep space radiation.

The officials told Newsweek that the agency was hoping to avoid a politicized media blitz when they arrived to the Palm Beach residence so chose to do it while he was away in New Jersey. Presidential records belong to the National Archives, according to the 1978 Presidential Records Act. But a 2018 law Trump signed, which made the act of removing or retaining classified documents a felony, may have come back to bite him.

From pundits to lawyers to lawmakers, the nation's most prominent political voices have been fiercely debating the motivations behind the FBI raid of Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida on Monday night as the bureau and the Justice Department remain tight-lipped about the unprecedented action.

Two sources briefed on the raid told Just the News that federal agents were looking for evidence concerning whether Trump took documents containing classified information from the White House to his compound at Mar-a-Lago after he left office last January.

Eric Trump, the 45th president's son, confirmed the FBI told Trump's staff that the bureau was searching for documents the National Archives believed were classified and missing, adding his father had been cooperating with the investigation for months. The National Archives had referred the case to the Justice Department, which launched a probe into whether the former president's handling of documents violated federal law.

Despite Trump's apparent cooperation with the investigation, the FBI executed a search warrant for Mar-a-Lago. The warrant hasn't been made publicly available, although Judicial Watch announced Tuesday it has filed a motion to unseal the warrant.

Meanwhile, both the FBI and the Justice Department have declined to comment on the raid. The FBI didn't respond to a request for comment for this story.

The White House has been similarly tight-lipped, denying any foreknowledge of the raid.

The DCNF spoke with the illegal migrants, who arrived in Washington on Friday on Republican Arizona Gov. Ducey’s buses, as they were waiting for a bus leaving Union Station for New York early Tuesday morning.

“They helped me and collaborated so that I could get from all the way to Washington. They took me to a shelter in which they treated me very well and they offered me the ticket from here to New York,” a migrant man from Venezuela told the DCNF. His wife, who was traveling with him and their three children, also said the travel option was voluntary.

“No. They offer it to us. They offer it to us for free to help those of us who don’t have [money] for free,” she said. “There are people who cross and they do have the money and they pay for the flight. But then the bus is voluntary. If you want, what they do is they forward us all the way to Washington, and, from here, we look for the organizations that help us so that we can get to our destination. Because at least for us that foundation gave us the tickets.”

A migrant from the Dominican Republic, who was traveling with her 12-year-old son, told the DCNF that she knew the bus was going to Washington and that they volunteered to come.

“[We’re going] to New York, where they will give us housing,” she said.

Ducey’s effort intends to send a message to the federal government about the influx of migrants crossing the border, Ducey spokesman C.J. Karamargin told the DCNF at the beginning of the busing.

“This is a problem caused by Washington. So we are bringing it to Washington,” Karamargin said.

“This is the flow of asylum seekers, migrants entering into the United States or coming into our or entering through Arizona because it’s easy and bearing the burden for this is our communities. Like folks in Yuma, where hospitals, community organizations, nongovernmental organizations are being strained tremendously. So, the goal here is to alleviate the burden for Arizonans,” he added.

The number of migrants that have crossed the southern border since October has surpassed 1,800,000, a new record, according to internal U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data exclusively obtained by the DCNF.

Bowser’s office didn’t respond to the DCNF’s request for comment. Adams’ office didn’t immediately respond.

From pundits to lawyers to lawmakers, the nation's most prominent political voices have been fiercely debating the motivations behind the FBI raid of Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida on Monday night as the bureau and the Justice Department remain tight-lipped about the unprecedented action.

Two sources briefed on the raid told Just the News that federal agents were looking for evidence concerning whether Trump took documents containing classified information from the White House to his compound at Mar-a-Lago after he left office last January.

Eric Trump, the 45th president's son, confirmed the FBI told Trump's staff that the bureau was searching for documents the National Archives believed were classified and missing, adding his father had been cooperating with the investigation for months. The National Archives had referred the case to the Justice Department, which launched a probe into whether the former president's handling of documents violated federal law.

Despite Trump's apparent cooperation with the investigation, the FBI executed a search warrant for Mar-a-Lago. The warrant hasn't been made publicly available, although Judicial Watch announced Tuesday it has filed a motion to unseal the warrant.

Meanwhile, both the FBI and the Justice Department have declined to comment on the raid. The FBI didn't respond to a request for comment for this story.

The White House has been similarly tight-lipped, denying any foreknowledge of the raid.

A burning body was discovered hanging from a tree near a merry-go-round in Los Angeles’ sprawling Griffith Park on Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

A park visitor was walking northeast of Griffith Observatory, not far from the Los Angeles Zoo, at around 12:30 p.m. when they noticed a tree on fire with a human body at the center of it, according to police.

The passerby alerted park rangers to the gruesome discovery, and they summoned the police.

By the time police officers and firefighters arrived at the scene, the person hanging from a tree was already dead, reported NBC Los Angeles.

As of Wednesday morning, the victim has not been identified, but Margaret Stewart, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department, told Los Angeles Daily News the body belonged to a woman.

A BURNING body has been found hanging from a tree in Los Angeles' famous Griffith Park.

Emergency services rushed to the scene shortly after 1pm on Tuesday when horrified passersby noticed a blaze.

The fire was engulfing a tree near a merry-go-round and the Los Angeles Zoo in the popular park, police said.

*Firefighters doused the flames before noticing a human body was horrifically hanging in the center.*

They said the person was already dead when they arrived, but the body was still burning, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

Authorities have yet to identify the victim in wake of the gruesome discovery.

The host of the interview said that the two men are at the epicenter of the U.S. outbreak, where WA1 was first found. Before he could ask Fauci his question, the infectious disease doctor interjected to seemingly mock critics who accuse him of playing a role in the creation of COVID-19.

“No, I developed the ancestral model strain,” Fauci joked. “I created it. I was in my kitchen…” he trailed off.

“Gain-of-function here we come,” the interviewer replied, as the two men laughed along with the audience.

Fauci has repeatedly denied accusationsthat he played a role in the outbreak of COVID-19. Experts and lawmakers have taken increasing interest in the “lab-leak” theory, which posits that the COVID outbreak started when the virus was accidentally released from the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) in Wuhan, China.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded gain-of-function research at the WIV for years leading up to the start of the pandemic. Gain-of-function researchinvolves genetically modifying pathogens to make them more dangerous to humans for research purposes. Some critics, such as Republican Kentucky Sen. n the outside, Judith Barsi seemed to have it all. At just 10 years old, she had snagged a number of film and TV roles, appearing in Cheers and Jaws: The Revenge and lending her voice to animated movies like The Land Before Time. But her rising star dovetailed with her father’s abuse.

Behind the scenes, József Barsi terrorized his family. He abused both Judith and her mother, Maria Virovacz Barsi, and even told friends about his murderous urges toward them. In 1988, József gruesomely followed through with his threats.

This is the tragic tale of the death of Judith Barsi, the talented child actor murdered by her own father.

From The Child Of Immigrants To A Hollywood Actor

From the beginning, Judith Eva Barsi seemed destined to have a different life from her parents. She was born on June 6, 1978, in sunny Los Angeles, California. József Barsi and Maria Virovacz Barsi, on the other hand, had separately fled the 1956 Soviet occupation of their native Hungary.

Maria, dazzled by the stars in nearby Hollywood, was determined to guide her daughter toward a career in acting. She taught Judith about posture, poise, and how to speak.

“I said I wouldn’t waste my time,” Maria Barsi’s brother, Joseph Weldon, recalled. “I told her the chances are one in 10,000 that she would succeed.”

But in a spurt of Hollywood magic, Maria did succeed. As it often happens in Los Angeles, where something is always filming, Judith Barsi was spotted by a crew at an ice rink. Enchanted by the petite blonde girl effortlessly gliding on the ice, they invited her to join their commercial.

From there, Judith’s career as an actress grew. She starred in dozens of commercials, made appearances on TV shows like Cheers, and won roles in films like Jaws: The Revenge. Hauntingly, Judith played a daughter murdered by her father in the 1984 miniseries Fatal Vision.

Casting directors were enchanted by her small size, since it let her play younger characters. Judith was so small, in fact, that she received hormone injections to help her grow.

“When she was 10, she was still playing 7, 8,” explained her agent, Ruth Hansen. Judith Barsi, she said, was a “happy, bubbly little girl.”

Judith’s success helped her family thrive. She made about $100,000 a year, which her parents used to buy a three-bedroom house at 22100 Michale Street in the Canoga Park neighborhood at the western edge of the San Fernando Valley. Maria’s greatest dreams seemed to be coming true, and Judith seemed destined for success. But Judith’s father, József Barsi, cast a dark shadow on her childhood.

As Judith Barsi’s star burned brighter, her home life grew darker. Outside the glare of the spotlight, Judith and Maria Virovacz Barsi suffered abuse at József’s hands.

A heavy drinker and quick to anger, József focused his wrath on his wife and daughter. He threatened to kill Maria or even kill Judith so that Maria would suffer. A friend of his named Peter Kivlen recalled that József told him hundreds of times that he wanted to kill his wife.

CNN’s Senior Legal Analyst Elie Honig said Wednesday that Democratic New York Attorney General Letitia James “politicized” the investigation into former President Donald Trump.

Trump announced Wednesday he plead the Fifth Amendment and did not answer any of New York Attorney General Letitia James’ questions during a deposition. The announcement came two days after his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida was raided by Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents.

Honig first said that Trump pleading the Fifth in a civil case could have could lead to “adverse inference” in which the jury who “can assume the worst” and cannot be used in a criminal investigation.

“I think it’s worth noting here, John, Letitia James has politicized this investigation. She campaigned on ‘vote for me and I’ll nail Donald Trump.’ She had fundraised on it so that is not a ridiculous fear for him to have,” Honig said.

“It’s not ridiculous because of that, you’re right,” King said. “And prosecutors should know when they take the job, they need to be more careful about talking about politics.”

The pair then continued talking about Trump’s legal issues, including the Monday raid at Mar-a-Lago, the Jan. 6 committeeand the ongoing investigation into the business practices of the Trump Organization.

Trump declared his innocence in a statement shared on social media and called the deposition “part of an unfounded politically motivated Witch Hunt.”

“Accordingly, under the advice of my counsel and for all the above reasons, I declined to answer the questions under the right and privileges afforded to every citizen under the United States Constitution,” the statement read in part.

Trump and the Trump Organization have been under investigation by James for bank, tax and insurance fraud since 2019. Trump was held in contempt in April after failing to comply with a subpoena for business documents related to the investigation.

James campaigned on investigating Trump, saying on the night of her victory that she “will be shining a bright light into every dark corner of his real estate dealings, and every dealing, demanding truthfulness at every turn.”

At the time, Clinton warned that the gain-of-function research being conducted at the lab could lead to “biological weapons proliferation concern.”

Over a decade later, when COVID-19 broke out of Wuhan and swept across the globe, Hillary Clinton attacked those sounding the alarm over its origins as racists.

In Pasadena, California, Black Lives Matter organizer Jasmine Richards is facing four years in state prison after she was convicted of a rarely used statute in California law originally known as “felony lynching.”

Under California’s penal code, “felony lynching” was defined as attempting to take a person out of police custody.

Jasmine was arrested and charged with felony lynching last September, after police accused her of trying to de-arrest someone during a peace march at La Pintoresca Park in Pasadena on August 29, 2015.

The arrest and jailing of a young black female activist on charges of felony lynching sparked a firestorm of controversy. Historically, the crime of lynching refers to when a white lynch mob takes a black person out of the custody of the police for the purpose of extrajudicially hanging them.

The Grand Jury for Colorado’s Fourth Judicial District indicted a high-ranking Democratic state senator for the alleged Class 5 felony of “providing false information as to his residence.”

The District Attorney’s Office announcedthe charge against State Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Pete Lee Tuesday, adding he will first appear in court on Sept. 8. Convicted Class 5 felons can be fined up to $100,000 in Colorado.

Colorado state legislators are legally bound to reside in their districts for at least a year before being elected, according to Colorado Politics. The indictment accuses Lee of providing the allegedly false information around March 3, 2020, The Denver Post reported.

Lee claimed to be living with his stepdaughter in a two-bedroom, one-bathroom house within his 11th District as his wife lived in a much larger one beyond it, Colorado Springs Indy reported later that year. He admitted to going “back and forth quite a bit,” according to the outlet.

Lee was taped the same year conceding thathe’d never spent nights at the in-district house and saying he was “really stressed” about “that Goddamn residency thing,” 9 News reported.

The Colorado Sun published a partially-redacted version of the indictment documents. Lee issued a statement through his lawyer pledging to challenge the charge without explicitly denying it and pointed out the 4th Judicial District Attorney Republican status, according to Colorado NBC affiliate 9 News.

Democratic State Senate President Steve Fenberg announced Lee’s removal from interim committee assignment until the matter’s resolution, claiming the accused had requested this, according to ABC 7 Denver.

Lee did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

Oversight GOP figures are requesting the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) provide information on the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) raid of former president Donald Trump’s resort in Mar-a-Lago.

“NARA’s singling out of President Trump’s handling of official records stands starkly in contrast to the way NARA has treated far clearer violations committed by politicians and officials who are not Republicans,” 20 Republicans, including numerous Committee ranking members, wrote in an Aug. 10 letter addressed to U.S. Acting Archivist Debra Wall, first published by Politico.

“To better understand the circumstances and NARA’s role, if any, in the FBI raid, Oversight Republicans request an immediate briefing on this matter,” the lawmakers wrote.

The lawmakers’ move marks the first of the GOP’s promised effort in investigating the FBI’s Aug. 8 raid of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago property for any underlying political motivation.

It follows shortly after the GOP in unison cast doubt over the nature of the raid—House Republicans first, and Senate ones followed—with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) promising to “leave no stone unturned” in an investigation of the Department of Justice that he says has “reached an intolerable state of weaponized politicization.”

The Republican lawmakers who wrote the letter allege that “political motivation” underlies the actions of the FBI and the National Archives, as the agencies’ treatment of Trump was “so contrary” to that of other former government officials—such as former president Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton—whom the Republicans say also had “some Presidential Records Act violations.”

The director of the FBI had strong words Wednesday for supporters of former President Donald Trump who have been using violent rhetoric in the wake of his agency's search of Trump's Mar-a-Lago home.

Christopher Wray, who was appointed as the agency’s director in 2017 by Trump, called threats circulating online against federal agents and the Justice Department “deplorable and dangerous.”

“I’m always concerned about threats to law enforcement,” Wray said. “Violence against law enforcement is not the answer, no matter who you’re upset with.”

Wray made the remarks following a news conference during a long-planned visit to the agency’s field office in Omaha, Nebraska, where he discussed the FBI's focus on cybersecurity. He declined to answer questions about the hours-long search Monday by FBI agents of Trump's Palm Beach, Florida resort.

It has been easy to find the threats and a call to arms in those corners of the internet favored by right-wing extremists since Trump himself announced the search of his Florida home. Reactions included the ubiquitous “Lock and load” and calls for federal agents and even U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland to be assassinated.

On Gab — a social media site popular with white supremacists and antisemites — one poster going by the name of Stephen said he was awaiting “the call” to mount an armed revolution.

“All it takes is one call. And millions will arm up and take back this country. It will be over in less than 2 weeks,” the post said.

Another Gab poster implored others: “Lets get this started! This unelected, illegitimate regime crossed the line with their GESTAPO raid! It is long past time the lib socialist filth were cleansed from American society!"

The search of Trump's residence Monday is part of an investigation into whether Trump took classified records from the White House to his Florida residence, according to people familiar with the matter. The Justice Department has been investigating the potential mishandling of classified information since the National Archives and Records Administration said it had received from Mar-a-Lago 15 boxes of White House records, including documents containing classified information, earlier this year.

Judge Orders DOJ To Respond To Requests To Unseal FBI’s Trump Warrant

The Justice Department has to respond to motions to unseal a warrant that triggered the FBI raid on former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home, according to a magistrate judge who reportedly approved the search.

Judicial Watch and the Albany Times Union newspaper filed a motion to unseal the document earlier this week, which was granted by a judge in the case.

“On or before 5:00 p.m. Eastern time on August 15, 2022, the Government shall file a Response to the Motion to Unseal,” wrote Judge Bruce Reinhart on Wednesday afternoon, referring to the Department of Justice.

“The response may be filed ex parte and under seal as necessary to avoid disclosing matters already under seal. In that event, the Government shall file a redacted Response in the public record. If it chooses, the Government may file a consolidated Response to all Motions to Seal,” he wrote.

Neither the FBI nor Justice Department has issued public comments about the raid, which was first confirmed by Trump on Monday evening.

The FBI declined to comment when contacted by The Epoch Times, and the Justice Department has not responded to several requests for comment.

As for the White House, press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said President Joe Biden was not aware of the raid before Trump’s announcement. Her claim was refuted by Trump on his social media platform, Truth Social.

“What I can tell you definitively and for sure, he was not aware of this,” Jean-Pierre said of Biden. “Nobody at the White House was. Nobody was given a heads up and we did not know about what happened yesterday.”

Requests

On Wednesday, the Times Union’s managing editor, Brendan J. Lyons, wrote to Reinhart to ask for the warrant to be unsealed.

“Given that the search warrant(s) have been executed, and the target of that search has full knowledge of what occurred, there is no impediment to any ongoing investigation from the disclosure of the search warrant order or the returns. As such, these records should be unsealed,” the letter to the Florida judge reads.

Federal investigators delivered subpoenas or paid visits to several House and Senate Republican offices in the Pennsylvania Capitol on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to multiple sources.

At least some of the individuals receiving subpoenas were told they were not targets of an investigation, according to at least six sources reached by PennLive, but that they may have information of interest to the FBI. All of the sources had been briefed on the investigative moves in some way, but demanded anonymity in order to discuss them.

The information being requested centered around U.S. Rep. Scott Perry, R-Pa., and the effort to seek alternate electors as part of former President Donald Trump’s efforts to remain in office after the 2020 election, several sources said.

The Washington Post on Wednesday, citing a source familiar with the probe, also reported that Perry’s cellphone was seized Tuesday as part of the Justice Department’s criminal investigation into the use of fake electors to try to overturn President Biden’s victory. The Post’s source also spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Spokepersons for the Pennsylvania’s House and Senate Republican leaders did not confirm whether any of their caucus members received a subpoena.

Bruce Reinhart, the magistrate judge who signed off on the FBI’s raid on Donald Trump’s Florida home at Mar-a-Lago, has a history of endorsing woke and anti-Trump viewpoints on his Facebook page, according to reports.

Images that appear to be of Reinhart’s Facebook page seen by Breitbart News show Reinhart praising leftist Robert Reich for his criticism of Donald Trump, accusing the former President of lacking “moral stature,” and sharing a woke video about “white privilege.”

In a Facebook post dated 14 January 2017, Reinhart attacked President Trump for his comments about former congressman and woke hero John Lewis.

“I generally ignore the President-elect’s tweets, but not this one,” said Reinhart. “John Lewis arguably has done more to “make America great” than any living citizen. Last August, I took my son to the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma so he could understand the kind of courage and sacrifice required to live in a democratic society. John Lewis embodies that spirit. Although I’ve never met him, he is one of my heroes.”

“Thank you, Robert Reich, for saying what many of us feel, “John Lewis is the conscience of America. Donald Trump doesn’t have the moral stature to kiss John Lewis’s feet.”

“Or, as Joseph Welch said to Joseph McCarthy, “At long last, have you left no sense of decency?”

Reinhart, who donated to the campaigns of Barack Obama and Jeb Bush, also shared a video from a page called “WokeFolks,” showing an instructor teaching teenagers about “racial privilege” by making them line up for a race in different starting positions based on the conditions of their birth and upbringing.

Senior U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) officials are blaming FBI Director Christopher Wray for the recent raid of former President Donald Trump’s home in an apparent attempt to take pressure off U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland.

After Trump confirmed the FBI raided Mar-a-Lago on Monday, many Republican politicians called on both Wray and Garland to explain the justification for the raid.

For example, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), the top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee, said, “Merrick Garland, Chris Wray, come to the House Judiciary Committee this Friday and answer our questions about this action today, which has never happened in American history.”

Similarly, House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) called out the DOJ’s “intolerable state of weaponized politicization” and told Garland to “preserve your documents and clear your calendar” as he pledged an investigation into the FBI raid if the Republicans take control of the House after November’s midterms.

Even Rep. Peter Meijer (R-MI), who voted to impeach Trump after the January 6 Capitol Riots, said Wray and Garland “owe transparency on the justification for setting such a striking precedent.”

However, one senior DOJ official told Newsweek that the final decision to green-light the raid on Mar-a-Lago rested with FBI Director Wray.

“I know it’s hard for people to believe, but this was a matter for the U.S. Attorney and the FBI,” the source told Newsweek.

“It really is a case of the Bureau misreading the impact,” the source added.

Although the DOJ source claimed Wray gave the final go-ahead, Newsweek also reported that Attorney General Garland “was regularly briefed” on the investigation into Trump and “he knew about the grand jury and what material federal prosecutors were seeking.”

However, the source insisted “that Garland had no prior knowledge of the date and time of the specific raid, nor was he asked to approve it,” according to Newsweek.

The grand jury investigation over a potential violation of the Presidential Records Act that led to the raid on Mar-a-Lago reportedly began in April.

Another senior DOJ official told Newsweek that the Mar-a-Lago raid was a “spectacular backfire” because the FBI reportedly planned the raid while Trump was not in Florida in an effort to avoid any media circus.

As Newsweek detailed:

The officials, who have direct knowledge of the FBI’s deliberations and were granted anonymity in order to discuss sensitive matters, said the raid of Donald Trump’s Florida residence was deliberately timed to occur when the former president was away.

FBI decision-makers in Washington and Miami thought that denying the former president a photo opportunity or a platform from which to grandstand (or to attempt to thwart the raid) would lower the profile of the event, says one of the sources, a senior Justice Department official who is a 30-year veteran of the FBI.

The first DOJ source told Newsweek:

I know that there is much speculation out there that this is political persecution, but it is really the best and the worst of the bureaucracy in action. They wanted to punctuate the fact that this was a routine law enforcement action, stripped of any political overtones, and yet [they] got exactly the opposite.

“They were seeking to avoid any media circus. So even though everything made sense bureaucratically and the FBI feared that the documents might be destroyed, they also created the very firestorm they sought to avoid, in ignoring the fallout,” the second source said.

With Republicans rallying around the former president after news of the raid broke, it appears the FBI got the exact opposite of what they wanted.

“After working and cooperating with the relevant Government agencies, this unannounced raid on my home was not necessary or appropriate,” Trump said in a statement on Monday.

“It is prosecutorial misconduct, the weaponization of the Justice System, and an attack by Radical Left Democrats who desperately don’t want me to run for President in 2024, especially based on recent polls, and who will likewise do anything to stop Republicans and Conservatives in the upcoming Midterm Elections,” said Trump.
