Clinton and Kissinger's ties extend beyond politics.
The two former secretaries of state have been close for years, with Clinton calling him "a friend" and noting that she "relied on his counsel" when she was secretary of state from 2009 to 2013.
"He checked in with me regularly, sharing astute observations about foreign leaders and sending me written reports on his travels. Though we have often seen the world and some of our challenges quite differently, and advocated different responses now and in the past...." she wrote in a review of his book "World Order" that was published in the Washington Post in 2014.
She also included mentions of Kissinger in her own book "Hard Choices," which detailed her time as secretary of state, referencing him during portions about China.
Clinton and Kissinger's ties extend beyond politics: The two are so friendly that when Clinton was set to present a fashion industry award to designer Oscar de la Renta, the event was re-arranged so that both Clinton and de la Renta were able to attend Kissinger's 90th birthday party in New York.
Though she has not spoken at length about her relationship with Kissinger during her ongoing presidential campaign, Clinton hasn't shied away from her connection to the controversial Republican either.
During a debate in New Hampshire in February, Clinton brought him up as a positive.
"I was very flattered when Henry Kissinger said I ran the State Department better than anybody had run in a long time," she said.
Sen. Bernie Sanders has criticized her ties to Kissinger, saying during a subsequent debate that he found it "rather amazing" that she is proud of the connection "because I happen to believe that Henry Kissinger was one of the most destructive secretaries of state in the modern history of this country."
"I'm proud to say that Henry Kissinger is not my friend. I will not take advice from Henry Kissinger," Sanders said before noting Kissinger's involvement in the bombing of Cambodia, which some critics have likened to genocide.

The panel reviewed cases of 45 individuals seeking compensation because of side effects from a COVID-19 vaccine, and decided that the claims in seven of the cases were valid
Two Moderna vaccine takers received NT$5,000 and NT$500,000 in compensation, while the four individuals who received the AstraZeneca vaccine were awarded between NT$30,000 and NT$150,000 in compensation.

"High-ranking agents in the Secret Service allegedly drove drunk through a crime scene at the White House on March 4, hitting a temporary barricade before speeding off. The agents, who were believed to be drunk, apparently drove directly next to a suspicious package dropped by a woman who had announced "I'm holding an [unspecified expletive] bomb." It turned out to be a book, according to a report by the Washington Post's Carol Leonnig and Peter Hermann.
The incident follows several others uncovered by Leonnig and her colleagues in recent months involving security failures by the Secret Service, including Secret Service agents and a White House volunteer allegedly hiring prostitutes in Colombia, a White House fence-jumper who made it fairly far into the building, sniper shots that the Service didn't know hit the White House until four days later, and an incident where a man carrying a gun was let into an elevator with President Obama.
Here are the basics of the Secret Service scandals as they stand today.
What was the Secret Service/White House prostitution scandal?
The story here begins in April 2012, when President Obama traveled to Cartagena, Colombia, for the Summit of the Americas. Ghislaine Maxwell’s Sentence Reduced, Judge Points to ‘Repetitive’ Nature of Guilty Counts
After losing her fight to have her convictions overturned for her role in Jeffrey Epstein’s sex trafficking operation, but at least getting 10 years knocked off her potential maximum sentence, Ghislaine Maxwell was moved out of solitary confinement last week.
Now, she can receive visits from family and friends while awaiting a sentence that could put her behind bars for the rest of her life.
Maxwell has been in solitary since her arrest in July 2020, according to the New York Post.
“She finally has access to things she has not had for almost two years, starting with human company,” her brother, Ian Maxwell, told the U.K. Telegraph. “The prison guards were told not to talk to her.
“She has had no human interaction. She has had no human company.”
As the Post reported, Maxwell was kept in high security because of the fate of Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted sex offender Maxwell aided in sexually abusing underage girls. Epstein died in what was officially ruled a suicide in a federal jail cell in 2019.
The human interaction could be small comfort for Maxwell as she awaits a June 28 sentencing for her convictions on sex trafficking and other charges.
Maxwell, 60, faces prison time of up to 55 years, the Post reported.
Bad as that is for Maxwell, she could have faced even more time. However, on April 29, the federal judge who turned down Maxwell’s bid to have her convictions overturned also tossed two of three conspiracy convictions against her, ruling they were “repetitive.”
That reduced her potential prison time by 10 years, according to ABC News.
In that ruling, however, U.S. District Court Judge Alison Nathan made it clear that Maxwell’s attempt to have all the guilty verdicts against her overturned did not have a legal leg to stand on.
“[T]he jury’s guilty verdicts were readily supported by the extensive witness testimony and documentary evidence admitted at trial,” the ruling stated.
“Further, those counts of conviction matched the core of criminality charged in the Indictment, presented by the Government at trial, and on which the jury was accurately instructed.
“[T]he Defendant simply asserts that the Court should ‘enter a judgment of acquittal as to all counts under Rule 29 . . . because the government failed to prove each element of the charges beyond a reasonable doubt,’” the ruling stated, adding, “The Court disagrees.”
In the ruling, Nathan said that Maxwell’s attorney had a point that some counts overlapped and said that despite involving different victims, they were part of the same overall conspiracy.
“The overarching conspiracy—which, as the Government argued and proved at trial, employed a single ‘playbook’ to groom and sexually abuse underage girls—constitutes a single conspiracy offense with multiple victims,” the ruling stated.
Maxwell was convicted of helping Epstein, a convicted sex offender, sexually exploit and abuse girls.
Maxwell’s lawyers argued that the prosecution was simply using Maxwell as a scapegoat for Epstein, since he died in jail in 2019 before he went to trial on sex trafficking charges.
Maxwell’s defense also said the accusers’ memories had been corrupted over the decades and that the women only testified against Maxwell because they thought cooperating with prosecutors would help the claims they made to a victims’ compensation fund that is run by Epstein’s estate, U.S. News reported.

Taiwanese Foreign Minister Joseph Wu hopes the world will impose sanctions on Beijing if it attacks Taipei, similar to those faced by Moscow over its offensive in Ukraine. China stated that it would not be intimidated by talks about sanctions and isolation, warning against ‘copy-pasting’ the Ukraine crisis onto the Asia Pacific.
On Friday, the Taiwanese Foreign Ministry, which had previously joined Western countries in sanctioning Russia, announced restrictive measures against Belarus. Speaking to reporters the following day, Wu admitted that there are almost no trade ties between Taiwan and these countries, so the move is purely symbolic.
“If we are threatened or invaded by force from China in the future, we also hope that the international community will understand Taiwan, support Taiwan, and sanction this kind of aggressive behavior. Therefore, Taiwan stands with the international community and takes these actions,” the minister explained.
The Taiwanese minister’s remarks came the day after Beijing warned the US and its partners that it would not be intimidated by threats.
Chinese Foreign Vice-Minister Le Yucheng included a “word of caution” for Taiwan in his speech at the ‘Seeking Peace and Promoting Development’ forum, saying that “reunification is the right way forward, and seeking foreign support to pursue independence will lead nowhere.”
“With regard to all the talk of sanctions and isolation on China, I can say for sure that China will not be intimidated,” Le said.

Edward L. Bernays was an American business consultant who is widely recognized as the father of public relations. Bernays was one of the men responsible for “selling” World War 1 to the American public by branding it as a war that was necessary to “make the world safe for democracy”.
