Sen. Lindsey Graham will support President-elect Joe Biden’s nominee to lead the CIA, he announced in the hours after the pick was revealed.

In a series of tweets Monday, shortly after Biden announced William Burns as his choice for CIA director, Graham (R-SC) lavished praise on the veteran diplomat and early architect of the Iran deal.

“Bill Burns is an outstanding choice to be the next Director of the CIA,” the South Carolina senator tweeted. “I have known him for years. He has a deep understanding of the threats our nation faces throughout the world.”

Calling him a “well-known, seasoned diplomat and respected figure in the intelligence community,” Graham said Burns would “be a steady hand at the helm of the CIA” and compared him to outgoing CIA Director Gina Haspel.

“I look forward to supporting his nomination,” his second tweet closed.

Burns, a former ambassador to Russia and Jordan and a deputy secretary of state, was most recently known for the critical role he played in brokering the Iran nuclear deal for the Obama administration.

It is my view that the U.S. government should immediately take necessary, and long-overdue, steps to do the right and obvious thing, that is to offer the Republic of China (Taiwan) America’s diplomatic recognition as a free and sovereign country.

This isn't about Taiwan’s future independence, it's about recognizing an unmistakable already existent reality. That reality is, as many of your past & present leaders have made clear, there's no need for Taiwan to declare independence because it’s already an independent country.

Its name is the Republic of China (Taiwan). The people and government of the United States should simply recognize this political, diplomatic and sovereignty reality. The Taiwanese people deserve the world’s respect for a free, democratic and sovereign country.

Ukraine never existed as a Nation: it has always been part of the Russian Empire, since the 1700’s, with Empress Catherine II.

Ukraine as a nation came into existence only in December 1991, when the Russian President Boris Yeltsin ended Communism in Russia, dissolved the Soviet Union, and granted independence to Ukraine and to other former Soviet Union states.

We must add that Crimea has always been part of Russia too, since 1783, when the Russian Empress Catherine II conquered it, in a war against the Turkish Ottoman Empire.

Therefore, the claim of “Russian aggression” regarding Crimea is totally false and hypocritical: with the 2014 referendum in Crimea, Russia simply took back what was theirs for 240 years.

By the way: 97% of the Crimea population is ethnically Russian, and voted to rejoin Russia in that referendum.

But it was not just John Kerry, Obama, Joe Biden, John Brennan and the CIA behind the Coup in Ukraine.

Germany Sends 2,700 Anti-Aircraft Missiles To Ukraine Despite Moscow's Warning

Germany on Thursday confirmed that it's ramping up military aid to beleaguered Ukraine, after days ago reversing its long-standing policy of neutrality which banned any country from shipping German arms into conflict zones. Now after one week of Russia's brutal invasion of Ukraine, Berlin is sending an additional 2,700 anti-aircraft missiles to Kiev.

It comes after an initial arms shipment already arrived, upon the request of the Ukrainian government. Given that also on Thursday the White House confirmed that it's sharing "real-time intelligence" with Ukraine's military - all of this suggests the NATO allies are slowly getting sucked in more directly amid Ukraine's efforts to defend its territory.

It should be noted of course that obviously NATO has been supporting Ukraine on a military and intelligence level for a long, long time at this point, which the Kremlin has cited as one of the reasons for the extreme action now being taken.

The Wall Street Journal details in a fresh report that what's essentially Germany's version of the more well-known US Stinger system is called the Strela:

The shoulder-fired weapons, known as Strela, can be used against helicopters and airplanes and will be transported to Ukraine within days. The Soviet-made rockets belonged to the armed forces of the former East Germany and are among the most widespread weapons of that type in the world. They were mothballed years ago and are now stored by the environment ministry.

The initial German weapons shipment earlier this week included 1,000 anti-tank missiles, and additionally 500 American Stingers. Berlin's complete 180-turn on the issue also allowed Baltic states like Estonia to begin shipping in German-made weapons.

This poses a huge problem for those in the West not wishing for direct Russia-NATO confrontation. Moscow this week warned that if its forces come under fire by foreign-supplied weapons, then those external countries behind the shipments will "bear the responsibility."

But many reports suggest this is already happening, particularly given Ukraine has long had an abundance of US Javelin anti-tank missiles. By some estimates, Ukraine's military has already used literally hundreds of Javelins against the invading Russian army.

The irony of the neocons, who couldn’t hold onto Iraq or Afghanistan over the course of two decades, babbling about how Russia has failed after a single week of military operations on a grand scale, should not escape you:

Putin rolled the dice of war and didn’t beat Ukraine. This, in strategic terms, probably means he lost the campaign. In retrospect, the Kremlin’s plan consisted of an airborne/airmobile/Spetsnaz descent on Kyiv, the mission of which was to establish an airhead in the capital and capture the Ukrainian government until relieved by mechanized forces racing in from the north. An airmobile assault was attempted at Gostomel to Kyiv’s immediate north.

But things went badly wrong. The Russian battalion-sized airmobile force met stiff air defense and was immediately counterattacked by the Ukrainian mobile reserve. Unable to land follow-on forces, the paratroopers could not withstand heavy weapons and were scattered or wiped out. Equally serious for the Russians was the failure of their northern pincer to advance on schedule.

Desperate to “bag” the Ukrainian government, the Russians attempted a large-scale airborne assault for Vasylkiv Airfield to the south of Kyiv to establish a blocking position to catch withdrawing units. But this failed, with two C-17 counterpart IL-76s loaded with paratroops destroyed, and with them, two infantry companies of the Kremlin’s finest. Crucially the Russian mechanized elements trickling into Kyiv proved too weak to break through the city defense.

When it was clear Zelensky, and hence the Ukrainian government, could not be bagged and was quite capable of retreating in good order to fallback positions in the West, it was obvious that Putin could not conclude the campaign with the political time and the military forces at hand. At this, the diplomatic floodgates opened, with even China urging a diplomatic solution, and much of the world, scared to death of a third world war, timidly then more forcefully chiming in.

Ukraine has not won, not in the military sense. It has lost territory, suffered significant losses to soldiers and civilians, and endured massive property damage. But crucially, it has not lost — and that may be enough.

Playing for an immediate checkmate doesn’t come off doesn’t mean you lose the game. It certainly doesn’t mean that your plan failed either. It’s just an aggressive opening gambit from which you proceed with your primary plan if, as you must always anticipate, you fail to get lucky and score an easy win. The strike battalion’s failed attempt to decapitate Ukraine’s foreign leadership on the first day of the operation was no different than the US Air Force’s attempt to bomb Saddam Hussein at the beginning of the 2003 Iraq campaign.

After all, it’s not as if the defeat at Arnhem, the famous “bridge too far” which caused the failure of Operation Market Garden, prevented the Allies from defeating Germany. It just meant that the war ended in May 1945 instead of before Christmas 1944, and that the Soviets took Berlin instead of the Americans.

Those with even a modicum of familiarity with military history are aware that the Russian operation is a model of near-textbook efficiency, bypassing the cities and enveloping enemy units by striking on multiple fronts.

Russia has already won the first battle of the Global Crusade, as the outcome of the Ukro-Russian war is no longer in any doubt, but the war between The Empire That Never Ended and the free nations of the world is very, very far from over.

Kiev calls for UN peacekeeping mission

Ukraine’s lawmakers also urged the UN and other international bodies to establish a no-fly zone over their country

On Thursday, amid the ongoing Russian offensive, Ukraine’s parliament called on the United Nations and other international organizations to send a peacekeeping mission to their country.

Addressing the UN, the International Red Cross, the European Parliament and “parliaments and cabinets” of all nations, they adopted a resolution urging foreign involvement to “protect civilian population from armed attacks by Russian invaders.” The lawmakers called for the deployment of a UN peacekeeping force, the establishment of a no-fly zone over Ukrainian territory, and the opening of “green corridors” for the passage of humanitarian aid and refugees.

Any UN peacekeeping mission would have to be authorized by the UN Security Council (UNSC), where Russia holds veto power. However, should the UNSC be unable to issue authorization, under UN General Assembly (UNGA) resolution 377(V), passed in 1950, UNGA can take such matters into its own hands. Nonetheless, the supreme UN body must recommend that the assembly do so, and at least seven UNSC members must favor the move.

Earlier, Kiev had repeatedly floated the idea of deploying UN peacekeepers into the country’s east, where the Ukrainian forces have been facing off with rebels in the breakaway republics of Donetsk and Lugansk since 2014. A mission to the region has never materialized, however.

Russia launched a large-scale military offensive in Ukraine last week, claiming it was the only option to protect the two republics from what it alleged was Kiev’s plan to retake them by force. Moscow also stated that its goals were to “denazify” and “demilitarize” its neighbor. Ukraine has denied any plan to attack the republics, and insists Russia’s offensive was unprovoked. Donetsk and Lugansk split from Ukraine in 2014, following the Maidan events in Kiev that led to the downfall of the country’s democratically elected government.

The propaganda push from the U.S. government is actually quite remarkable to watch unfold. I mean seriously, there’s a point when you don’t go all-in because there has to be an exit option. We are in very tenuous place, because no one is thinking about an off ramp…. it’s full speed ahead.

If Lindsey Graham, Joe Biden, NATO, the EU, World Bank, International Monetary Fund, Word Economic Forum and the multinational corporations in this alliance of Public/Private geopolitical partnerships, succeed in the fight against Vladimir Putin – I promise you, we are not going to like the world on the other side of their victory.

Reality Check: A "No-Fly-Zone" Over Ukraine Means WW3

A no-fly zone is not a magic dome of cosy protection put in place with a snap of the fingers and enforced without a shot being fired.

A no-fly zone is a declaration of war. It does NOT save lives. That’s a lie to trick stupid people into calling for escalation.

A no-fly zone will require NATO to shoot down any Russian aircraft that enter the airspace.

Attempts to kill foreign leaders are not unheard of in US foreign policy. Cuba’s revolutionary leader Fidel Castro was arguably the most famous example. He was targeted by multiple plots hatched by the CIA, as revealed by the Church Committee in the 1970s.

A more recent example was Libya’s Muammar Gaddafi. He was personally targeted by NATOairstrikes during the bloc’s 2011 air campaign to destroy the country’s military and secure a victory for anti-government forces. He was ultimately captured by the rebels after his fleeing motorcade was hit by an airstrike, and was summarily executed.

On Thursday and Friday, hours after a series of negotiations over Ukraine between Russia and NATO failed, the US intelligence apparatus and media have launched a massive campaign aimed at preparing public opinion for a military escalation of the conflict.

The talks had been set to fail from the beginning since both NATO and the United States made clear that Russian proposals on NATO expansion were “non-starters” after Russian President Vladimir Putin publicly begged NATO to give Russia “something, at least something.”

On Friday, CNN carried a report, based on an unnamed United States intelligence official, claiming that the US had uncovered a covert group of Russian operatives preparing to carry out a “false flag” operation in eastern Ukraine in order to justify a supposedly pending invasion.

As with all war propaganda pieces that rely on leaks from the US intelligence, the sources remained anonymous, no other evidence for the claims made was provided, and little was revealed about the exact nature of the allegedly impending attack. This allows the US to pin the blame on Russia for any escalation that may occur in eastern Ukraine in the coming weeks and months.

The New York Times followed up the initial CNN story with a piece by David Sanger, a longtime “insider” of the US intelligence and military apparatus and author of countless pieces of war propaganda. Sanger quoted several Biden administration officials who fully endorsed the intelligence leaks.

“Russia is laying the groundwork to have the option of fabricating a pretext for invasion,” White House Press Secretary Jan Psaki said, “including through sabotage activities and information operations, by accusing Ukraine of preparing an imminent attack against Russian forces in eastern Ukraine.”

The Kremlin has rejected the veracity of the reports with Press Secretary Dmitri Peskov stating, “So far all these statements have been unfounded and have not been confirmed by anything.”

Over the past months, NATO, with the US taking the lead, has pushed for an escalation of tensions with Russia, including through the deployment of military ships to the Black Sea and announcements that it would provide further military assistance to Ukraine.

Posted on YouTube and screened by nationwide Russian TV channel REN TV on Nov. 21, the film, titled Ukraine on Fire, features Ukraine’s ousted former president Viktor Yanukovych, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Vitaly Zakharchenko, who served as Ukrainian interior minister under Yanukovych, discussing the events leading up to and following the “Maidan” revolution of 2014.

Stone, an award-winning director who is a staunch critic of Washington’s foreign policy, is no stranger to controversy and has a long history of making political films. He also directed 2015’s Snowden, a biopic of the fugitive former NSA agent turned whistleblower.

Directed by Ukrainian American Igor Lopatenyuk, the film has been criticized for its one-sided portrayal of events in Kiev, with a Ukrainian citizen named Andrei Nezvany posting an online petition two days before the film's online premiere asking for the picture to be banned because it "falsifies facts" and could "provoke mass protests in Ukraine."

Ukraine on Fire was made by the Los Angeles company Another Way Productions though the source of the project’s financing is not clear.

CIA protected Ukrainian nationalists in the USSR

The film reports that the CIA closely collaborated with Ukrainian nationalistic organizations against the USSR as far back as 1946, using them as counterintelligence sources. Recently declassified CIA documents apparently bear witness to this.

According to the film, "by the end of 1941 alone the nationalists killed between 150,000 and 200,000 Jews on German-occupied territory in Ukraine," and the following "strong alliance" allowed them to escape after WWII to Europe, where the CIA helped them hide.

For example, the film points out that Mykola Lebed, a Ukrainian nationalist and activist who was responsible for mass killings of Poles in Ukraine’s Volyn region under Nazi occupation in WWII, was later transferred to the U.S., where he died in 1998 without ever facing trial for his war crimes.

But American collaboration with the Ukrainian nationalists did not end there, claims the film.
