Colorado will lift its statewide mask mandate April 4 and ease coronavirus protocols even as experts say it's not yet safe to do so.

The state would make it easier to reach this lowest level by allowing a rate of 35 cases per 100,000 instead of the current 15 cases per 100,000.

In addition, the state is easing capacity limits at other levels to reopen bars and allow more indoor dining.

Most counties are at the higher levels. Denver is at Level Yellow.

QAnon Is Like a Game—a Most Dangerous Game

The conspiracy theory has the best attributes of a multiplatform game, except that it can cause harm in the real world.

WHEN QANON EMERGED in 2017, the game designer Adrian Hon felt a shock of recognition.

QAnon, as you very likely know, is the right-wing conspiracy theory that revolves around a figure named Q. This supposedly high-ranking insider claims that the deep state—an alleged cabal led by Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and George Soros and abetted by decadent celebrities—is running a global child-sex-trafficking ring and plotting a left-wing coup. Only Donald Trump heroically stands in the way.

It's nonsense, of course. But what intrigued Hon was the style of nonsense.

Qanon Deploys 'Information Warfare' to Influence the Election

It is addictively participatory. Whenever Q posts about the conspiracy, he (or she or they) leaves clues—“Q drops”—on image boards like 8kun that are cryptic and open-ended. One in 2019, for example, read: “[C] BEFORE [D]. [C]oats BEFORE [D]. The month of AUGUST is traditionally very HOT. You have more than you know.” Since the clues are oblique, it's up to the followers of QAnon to interpret them. They instantly begin Googling the phrases, then energetically share their own exegeses online about What It All Means. (August is when Trump will finally imprison Clinton!) To belong to the QAnon pack is to be part of a massive crowdsourcing project that sees itself cracking a mystery.

Which is what gave Hon the shock of recognition: QAnon was behaving precisely like an alternate-reality game, or ARG.

ARGs are designed to be clue-cracking, multiplatform scavenger hunts. They're often used as a promotion, like for a movie. A studio plants a cryptic clue in the world around us. If you notice it and Google it, it leads to hundreds more clues that the gamemaker has craftily embedded in various websites, online videos, maps, and even voice message boxes. The first big ARG—called The Beast—was created in 2001 to promote the Steven Spielberg movie A.I. Artificial Intelligence and began with a reference to a “sentient machine therapist” in the credits listed on the movie poster.

Hon was a student when The Beast was released, and he became obsessed. He even moderated a discussion forum where players shared clues. They solved the puzzle in about five months, and Hon was so inspired that he created his own firm to make ARGs, launching Perplex City (his most well-known game) in 2005. He's run several others since.

The web has always been about making willy-nilly connections: This links to that which links to this.

This is why he's convinced that game dynamics help explain why QAnon is such a seductive conspiracy. It plugs into the psychological lures that make ARGs so fun.

First off, QAnon poses a mystery that feels so big it can only be solved by crowdsourcing. It's thrilling to be involved with other people in something bigger than yourself. Plus, it turns one's armchair-warrior Googling into a heroic quest for truth.

“They're all saying, ‘I've done my research,’” Hon told me of Q followers. “They're looking for signals in the noise.”

There's also the thrill of creativity, of adding to a canon. QAnon followers “don't just passively receive Q drops. They create new videos and texts,” notes Marc-André Argentino, a public scholar at Concordia University who researches QAnon. Q's followers behave like religious devotees who pore over their faith's central texts, crafting interpretations that become part of the official creed.

And, like an ARG, QAnon brings social rewards. If you're the first to post a new discovery, “other people can see it, and they instantly recognize it,” notes Dan Hon, Adrian's brother, who helped create the Perplex City ARG.

In a way, ARGs and QAnon are the quintessence of internet culture. The web has always been about making willy-nilly connections: This links to that which links to this. And cyberspace facilitates the obsessive joint scrutiny of everything, from TV shows to knitting patterns to the belief that reptilians walk among us.

Once you chew on it that way, you start thinking, jeez, maybe QAnon was almost inevitable. [1]

Chrissy Teigen’s Twitter account has gone dark.

In a several-tweet thread to her 14 million followers Wednesday night, the model said goodby to the social network, writing that her time spent on the site, “no longer serves me as positively as it serves me negatively, and I think that’s the right time to call something.”

She began the missive by thanking her fans and praising what they had “created” on the website.

“Hey. For over 10 years, you guys have been my world,” she wrote.

“I honestly owe so much to this world we have created here. I truly consider so many of you my actual friends. But it’s time for me to say goodbye.”

As the thread continued, Teigen said she was “deeply bruised” from her time online and hadn’t learned how to “block out the negativity.”

“My desire to be liked and fear of pissing people off has made me somebody you didn’t sign up for, and a different human than I started out here as!,” the wife of John Legend continued.

Teigen announced no intentions to quit Instagram, where she has 34 million followers — and where she made waves last week by posting a topless pic featuring her toddler.

In February, she asked President Biden to unfollow her on Twitter so she could “flourish.”

Soon after bidding her followers farewell, her Twitter no longer appeared on the social media site.

Chatter about UFOs among current and former government officials appears to be ramping up ahead of the June 1 release of a UFO report by the Pentagon and spy agencies.

A TMZ reporter caught up with Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) at Reagan National Airport on Monday and questioned him about UFOs, according to Mediaite. Rubio, who is also a member of the Senate Committee on Intelligence, revealed he is concerned about UFOs buzzing over US military bases.

"There's stuff flying over military installations, and nobody knows what it is and it isn't ours," he said, adding that it's logical to want to identify these unidentified flying objects. "It's common sense, right?"

Rubio said objects are flying over military bases, "and we don't know what they are."

"I think the worry is that there's stuff flying over our facilities, and we don't know what they are," said the senator. "You know what I mean? So that's the concern. Maybe it's the other logical explanation to it."

The TMZ reporter asked Rubio if aliens from another galaxy or China possess a more significant threat to US military installations. The senator responded that he doesn't know the origins of the unidentified objects.

"There's stuff flying over the top of our military installations and they don't know who's flying it, they don't even know who it is," Rubio added. "So that's a problem. We need to find out if we can."

The senator added that aliens must be more technologically advanced than humans if they "made it all the way here" when "we can't get there."

"We don't know what that stuff is that's flying over the top of our installations, let's find out," he added. "Maybe it's another country, and that would be bad news too."

Mining consultancy AmaranthCX, using Google Earth and other sources, has put together a detailed map of South Africa’s chrome mining sector. It reveals at least 20 spiral or wash plants that are not located on any legitimate or regulated mine. The suspicions are that illicit ore is processed in some of these plants. The industry estimates that more than 10% of South Africa’s chrome exports are off the grid.

“It is incredibly concerning to the chrome industry – it is estimated that illegal mining could account for up to 50,000 tons in chrome ore exports per month,” ChromeSA, the main industry group, said in response to questions from DM168. After the shock of September 11, 2001 every state was asked to enact a law providing for unprecedented,

comprehensive health surveillance and medical martial law.

The Model State Emergency Health Powers Act, proposed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC),

would provide a state’s governor with sole discretion to declare a public-health emergency.

Once the emergency was declared, public-health officials would assume police powers, the militia would be mobilized,

and the legislature would be prohibited from intervening for 60 days.

Any new orders and rules issued by the governor would have the full force of law.

Existing laws and individual rights could be suspended.

This is what we’re seeing happen today!

And don’t forget, this was proposed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

To promote the legislation, state officials and legislators have related it almost exclusively to the threat of bioterrorism.

But broader authority was also proposed.

The new powers would be authorized during any declared public-health emergency.

An emergency could be declared with the occurrence or imminent threat of a health condition or illness that is believed

to be caused by bio-terrorism, or the appearance of a novel, previously controlled, or previously eradicated infectious agent

or biological toxin.

That belief is the only criterion.

And although there must be potential for a large number of people to be affected, there is no definition of “large number.”

The governor, in consultation with health officials, would decide.

This is exactly what’s happening now!

The Second Amendment of the US Constitution applies to “hearth and home” and not the public square, the Ninth US Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled, upholding a Hawaii practice of limiting open-carry licenses to security guards.

In a 7-4 ruling after the full bench review of the Young v Hawaii case, the majority argued that “there is no right to carry arms openly in public; nor is any such right within the scope of the Second Amendment.”

The famous gun rights provision of the US Constitution applies to “defense of hearth and home,” the majority argued, while the government has the power to “regulate carrying arms in the public square.”

Neal Katyal, who served in the Obama administration as the acting solicitor general and was one of the attorneys for Hawaii in the case, celebrated the ruling.

The National Rifle Association (NRA), which was not involved in the litigation, said the ruling amounted to banning both open and concealed carry of weapons in Alaska, Hawaii, California, Arizona, Oregon, Washington and Montana – states under the jurisdiction of the 9th Circuit – adding that it is “exploring all options to rectify this.”

Plaintiff George Young sued Hawaii in 2011, after he was denied a permit to carry a gun under state law and Hawaii County regulations. He argued that, as applied, the law effectively permitted only security guards to openly carry guns, which was violating the Second Amendment's prohibition on infringing “the right of the people to keep and bear arms.”

Four of the 11 judges sided with Young, saying that the Hawaii law and regulations “destroy the core right to carry a gun for self-defense outside the home and are unconstitutional under any level of scrutiny.”

Judge Diarmuid O’Scannlain called the ruling “unprecedented as it is extreme” and said that the majority “undermines not only the Constitution’s text, but also half a millennium of Anglo-American legal history,” two major US Supreme Court decisions, and “the foundational principles of American popular sovereignty itself.”

The majority argued that early American colonists brought with them “English sensibilities over the carrying of arms in public” and that technology has not changed that. Then as now, the “mere presence” of guns “presents a terror to the public” and the “widespread carrying of handguns would strongly suggest that state and local governments have lost control of our public areas,” they wrote.

The ruling comes amid a renewed push by the Democrat-majority Congress and the White House administration to enact stricter gun control measures, whether by law or executive fiat. On Tuesday, President Joe Biden pointed to the shooting attack at a Boulder, Colorado grocery store that left 10 people dead to argue for bringing back the 1994 federal “assault weapons” ban.

The week before, Democrats and the media called for stricter gun laws after a 21-year-old in Atlanta, Georgia targeted massage parlors in a shooting spree. The media and Democrats portrayed the attack as driven by hate against Asian Americans, but the suspect said his motivation was sexual in nature.

Even before the two incidents, Biden had called for more gun control in a speech on the anniversary of the February 14, 2018 shooting at a Parkland, Florida high school.

ITTLE ROCK, Ark. — An Arizona adoption attorney is facing several federal charges in Arkansas after being arrested in California Tuesday evening.

Paul Petersen, who is an assessor in Maricopa County and an attorney that practices law in Arizona, Utah and Arkansas, reportedly “devised a scheme to defraud and obtain money and property from unknowing adoptive parents and others.”

According to the Department of Justice, Petersen would pay pregnant Marsallese women to travel to Arkansas and put their babies up for adoption. He allegedly bought airline tickets and had them hide the motive to travel from Republic of Marshall Islands and United States authorities.

“In furtherance of this scheme, Petersen caused adoption case files to be opened that were supported by documents containing fraudulent material false statements,” the DOJ press release stated.

The documents in these images were found in trash receptacles outside of Dekalb County election facilities after the inauguration of Joe Biden on Jan 20th of this year.

Dekalb County, GA is breaking the law as the possibility of audits and inspection of ballots from the Nov 3rd U.S. general election and the Jan 5th Senate runoff in Georgia become more likely. Multiple legal challenges are working their way through the courts to the massive election fraud executed in the Peach State last election cycle.

Today a Gwinnett County court looks to be forcing ballot images to be presented in a non-partisan election suit. A court in Henry County is accepting a plan tomorrow by VoterGA.org for an audit of the ballots in Fulton County from the general election.

Federal election law states: Every officer of election shall retain and preserve, for a period of twenty-two months from the date of any general, special, or primary election of which candidates for the office of President, Vice President, presidential elector, Member of the Senate, Member of the House of Representatives, or Resident Commissioner from the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico are voted for, all records and papers which come into his possession relating to any application, registration, payment of poll tax, or other act requisite to voting in such election, except that, when required by law, such records and papers may be delivered to another officer of election and except that, if a State or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico designates a custodian to retain and preserve these records and papers at a specified place, then such records and papers may be deposited with such custodian, and the duty to retain and preserve any record or paper so deposited shall devolve upon such custodian. Any officer of election or custodian who willfully fails to comply with this section shall be fined not more than $1,000 or imprisoned not more than one year, or both.

Ballot envelopes can be inspected to determine if they were sealed in bulk or sealed individually by different people. This is why they must be maintained.

In addition, it looks as if Dekalb County may have counted ballots not placed in official ballot envelopes, but in crude counterfeit envelopes.

GA Secretary of State Raffensperger is not interested in stopping this destruction of evidence. He is not interested in investigating election fraud.

There must be a Federal grand jury convened to hear all of the evidence of election fraud in Atlanta, GA. The November 3rd, 2020 election, and the Senate runoff on Jan 5th are a travesty of justice foisted on the American people. It cannot be allowed to stand. Further investigation is required.

5th Circuit sanctions Marc Elias and other Perkins Coie lawyers for 'redundant and misleading' motion

A federal appeals court has sanctioned Perkins Coie attorneys who represent Democratic groups for a “redundant and misleading” motion in election litigation.

The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals at New Orleans imposed the sanctions on lawyer Marc Elias and his legal team in a March 11 order, report Law360, Bloomberg Law and Law.com. A March 12 press release is here.

The court imposed the sanctions in a case in which Perkins Coie lawyers argued that the elimination of straight-ticket voting in Texas disproportionately affected minorities.

The appeals court said the lawyers filed a Feb. 10 motion to supplement the record that was nearly identical to a Sept. 29, 2020, motion that they previously filed. The earlier motion was denied.

“This inexplicable failure to disclose the earlier denial of their motion violated their duty of candor to the court,” the court said.

The lawyers had argued that they thought the denied motion applied only to emergency stay proceedings. But there was no such limit, the appeals court said. And if the lawyers “had any confusion about the application of the order, they could have and should have disclosed the previously denied motion in their new motion,” the appeals court said.

The appeals court ordered the lawyers to pay attorney fees incurred by their opponents in connection with the duplicative motion and to also pay “double costs.” The lawyers “are also encouraged albeit not required” to review the ABA model ethics rule on candor toward courts and to complete one hour of continuing legal education on the topic.

Perkins Coie’s first supplemental motion had sought to establish that the lawyers’ clients had standing to seek an injunction blocking enforcement of the ban on straight-ticket voting, Law360 explains. The Texas secretary of state had raised the standing argument for the first time during the injunction appeal. After the injunction expired, the Perkins Coie lawyers again sought to file declarations showing standing when the secretary of state claimed protection by sovereign immunity.

The plaintiffs challenging the ban on straight-ticket voting are the Texas Alliance for Retired Americans, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

Perkins Coie released this statement to publications covering the sanctions: “We do not normally respond to requests for comment on pending litigation, but the firm and the attorneys involved in this matter strongly disagree with the appellate court’s ruling and its order of sanctions in this case. The firm fully and completely supports our attorneys in this case.”

The case is Texas Alliance for Retired Americans v. Hughs.

Human remains suddenly being found at an alarming pace

In the past few months, there has been a sudden uptick in human remains being found all over the nation. Many are from people who have been missing a good length of time. In March alone, there have been 21 sets of remains found, as listed on the fakebook page, Never Forget Me. No telling how many have been found that were not listed on that page.

Protection agency denies any involvement in a 2018 firearms incident involving the president’s son and daughter-in-law.

On Oct. 23, 2018, President Joe Biden’s son Hunter and daughter in law Hallie were involved in a bizarre incident in which Hallie took Hunter’s gun and threw it in a trash can behind a grocery store, only to return later to find it gone.

Delaware police began investigating, concerned that the trash can was across from a high school and that the missing gun could be used in a crime, according to law enforcement officials and a copy of the police report obtained by POLITICO.

But a curious thing happened at the time: Secret Service agents approached the owner of the store where Hunter bought the gun and asked to take the paperwork involving the sale, according to two people, one of whom has firsthand knowledge of the episode and the other was briefed by a Secret Service agent after the fact.

The gun store owner refused to supply the paperwork, suspecting that the Secret Service officers wanted to hide Hunter’s ownership of the missing gun in case it were to be involved in a crime, the two people said. The owner, Ron Palmieri, later turned over the papers to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, which oversees federal gun laws.

The Secret Service says it has no record of its agents investigating the incident, and Joe Biden, who was not under protection at the time, said through a spokesperson he has no knowledge of any Secret Service involvement.

Days later, the gun was returned by an older man who regularly rummages through the grocery’s store’s trash to collect recyclable items, according to people familiar with the situation.

The incident did not result in charges or arrests.

But the alleged involvement of the Secret Service remains a mystery. One law enforcement official said that at the time of the incident, individual Secret Service agents at the agency’s offices in Wilmington, Del., and Philadelphia kept an informal hand in maintaining the former vice president’s security. The person cited an instance in 2019 when the Wilmington office of the Secret Service called the Delaware State Police to arrange security for a public appearance by Biden.

White House to spend $10 billion to bolster vaccine effort

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House announced Thursday that it is dedicating another $10 billion to try to drive up vaccination rates in low-income, minority and rural enclaves throughout the country.

The effort, which is funded through the $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package passed earlier this month, will include $6 billion in funding for community health centers to expand COVID-19 vaccinations, testing and other preventive health care for populations at higher risk for the virus.

President Joe Biden's administration, which will start distributing the money in April to nearly 1,400 centers across the country, said health centers can also use the funding to modify and improve infrastructure and add mobile units.

In addition, the Biden administration said it is allotting $3 billion to bolster “vaccine confidence.” The money, which will be parceled out to 64 jurisdictions, can be used by rural, faith-based organizations and by food assistance and housing nonprofits in high-poverty communities to conduct door-to-door outreach and education efforts to urge eligible people to schedule vaccination appointments.

Some of the funding will also be spent to help dialysis clinics provide COVID-19 vaccinations to people receiving dialysis and health care personnel in the clinics.

About $300 million is earmarked for community health worker services to support COVID-19 prevention and control, and an additional $32 million is for training, technical assistance and evaluation, the White House said.
