AMY GOODMAN: Georgia’s Republican Governor Brian Kemp has signed a sweeping elections bill that civil rights groups are blasting as the worst voter suppression legislation since the Jim Crow era. This comes just months after Democrats won two Senate seats in Georgia and Joe Biden became the first Democratic presidential candidate to win the state in 28 years.
The bill grants broad power to state officials to take control of election management from local and county election boards. It also adds new voter ID requirements, severely limits mail ballot drop boxes and rejects ballots cast in the wrong precinct. One provision would even make it a crime to hand out food or water to voters waiting in line at polling places. Voting rights experts say the bill is specifically designed to make it harder for African Americans to vote. Governor Kemp signed the bill in private, surrounded by six white men.
This comes amidst a nationwide push by Republicans to restrict the vote after Donald Trump lost in November. Since the election, Republican state lawmakers have introduced over 250 bills in 43 states to limit voter access.
On Thursday, President Biden criticized the Republican efforts during his first news conference.

Oakland to Test Universal Basic Income Program – Exclude White Families From Taking Part
The city of Oakland, California is launching a pilot universal basic income program for 600 low-income families this summer but is excluding poor White families from taking part.
The program is only for “Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC)” who have “low incomes and at least 1 child under 18, regardless of documentation status,” East County Today reports.
“The term ‘family’ is defined broadly to recognize that families come in all shapes and sizes,” ECT noted.
From East County Today, “Mayor Schaaf Announces $500 a Month “Guaranteed Income” Pilot for Oakland Resilient Families”:
Oakland will host one of the largest guaranteed income pilot projects in the country to give 600 BIPOC families with low-incomes an unconditional $500 per month for at least 18 months.
Oakland Resilient Families is a collaboration between the Oakland-based community organization Family Independence Initiative and the national Mayors for a Guaranteed Income. The project will support 600 Oakland families while building momentum for strategies to eliminate racial disparities in economic stability, mobility, and assets through a guaranteed income.
“The poverty we all witness today is not a personal failure, it is a systems failure,” said Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf. “Guaranteed income is one of the most promising tools for systems change, racial equity, and economic mobility we’ve seen in decades. I’m proud to work with such committed local partners to build a new system that can help undo centuries of economic and racial injustice, and point us all toward a more just society.”

“Oakland Resilient Families is 100% funded through philanthropic donations anchored by an investment from Blue Meridian Partners’ Place Matters portfolio,” ECT reports.
The Democrats’ recently-passed COVID relief bill also proactively discriminates against Whites by including a $5 billion giveaway exclusively for non-White farmers.

On Tuesday March 22nd at around 7:45 am local time the Ever Given, become grounded in the Suez Canal. The ship had two pilots from Egypt’s canal authority aboard the vessel to guide it when the grounding happened.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — A British royal navy vessel seized 450 kilograms (990 pounds) of methamphetamine in the northern Arabian Sea in the largest-ever bust by a joint maritime operation in the region, officials said Wednesday.
The HMS Montrose seized the drugs hidden aboard a stateless dhow, a traditional cargo ship that plies the Persian Gulf and surrounding waters, the joint task force said in a statement. The seizure took place last Wednesday.
The task force said it was unable to say where the drugs came from, who manufactured them or their ultimate destination.
However, Iran over the last decade has seen an explosion in the use of methamphetamine, known locally as “shisheh” or “glass” in Farsi. That’s bled into neighboring Iraq as well.
While drug lab busts have dropped in recent years in Iran, there appears to be an uptick in meth drug labs in Afghanistan, from where it is smuggled through Pakistan, the United Nations said in its 2020 World Drug Report. Both Pakistan and Iran sit on the northern Arabian Sea.

The California Board of Education has unanimously approved a new ethnic studies school curriculum that has students "chant to the Aztec god of human sacrifice" and encourages a "countergenocide" against White Christians.
Christopher Rufo exposed the radical curriculum earlier this month before the vote but the Board of Education apparently couldn't care less:
Rufo noted that once the curriculum passes "it will install the principles of critical race theory and its related ideologies into the state's 10,000 public schools, serving 6 million children."

Former Melbourne mayor Robert Doyle committed ‘serious misconduct of a sexual nature,’ report concludes
Melbourne’s former lord mayor Robert Doyle committed “serious misconduct of a sexual nature” against a woman at a 2016 awards ceremony, according to an investigation by a Victorian Department of Health-appointed QC.

A summary of the investigation's findings said Mr Doyle's conduct at the 2016 dinner ranged from "sleazy" to "serious misconduct of a sexual nature".
The summary found this included touching the woman's inner thigh, close to her groin and her lower back.
Charles Scerri QC was appointed by the Department of Health and Human Services to carry out an investigation into sexual misconduct allegations made against the former lord mayor who was also the chairperson of Melbourne Health at the time of the dinner.
The summary of Mr Scerri's findings was published on Victoria's Health Department's website late on Friday.
The summary said the woman "appeared to be an honest and sincere witness and had no reason to lie about these matters".
"Indeed, the whole experience, including Mr Scerri's investigation, has caused her enormous distress," the summary stated.
Doyle's conduct caused 'serious distress'
It said Mr Scerri had found that the conduct described by the woman did take place, with a varying degree of seriousness.
"Some of the conduct could be described as over-familiar, rude, obnoxious or sleazy. In that category were inappropriate comments that Mr Doyle made about the complainant's appearance," the summary stated.
"However, some of the conduct was 'serious misconduct of a sexual nature' within the scope of Mr Scerri's investigation. This included touching the complainant's inner thigh, close to her groin and the complainant's lower back."
Mr Scerri also found that the conduct was unwelcome and caused the complainant serious distress.
It was noted that Mr Doyle continued to claim that due to his ill health he was unable to respond to the allegations.
The summary also reported that there had been extensive correspondence between Mr Scerri's solicitors and Mr Doyle's solicitors since February 2018 "about Mr Doyle's inability for medical reasons to take part in the investigation or to respond to the allegations".
"Mr Scerri does not accept that Mr Doyle's solicitors are unable to discuss the allegations with Mr Doyle and obtain any instructions from him," the summary said.
"Accordingly, Mr Scerri considers that he is now able to finalise the investigation and make his findings."
Mr Doyle did not respond when asked for comment by the ABC on Friday night.

Background
The Strategic Air Command (SAC) was both a Major Command (MAJCOM) of the United States Air Force and a “specified command” of the United States Department of Defense. SAC was the operational establishment in charge of America’s land-based strategic bomber aircraft and land-based intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) strategic nuclear arsenal from 1946 to 1992. SAC also controlled the infrastructure necessary to support the strategic bomber and ICBM operations, such as aerial refueling tanker aircraft to refuel the bombers in flight, strategic reconnaissance aircraft, command post aircraft, and, until 1957, fighter escorts.

Taiwan Reports Largest Ever Incursion by Chinese Air Force
TAIPEI—Twenty Chinese military aircraft entered Taiwan’s air defence identification zone on Friday, in the largest incursion yet reported by the island’s defence ministry and marking a dramatic escalation of tension across the Taiwan Strait.
The island’s defence ministry said the air force deployed missiles to “monitor” the incursion into the southwestern part of its air defense identification zone. It also said its planes warned the Chinese aircraft, including by radio.
It marked the largest incursion to date by the Chinese air force since Taiwan’s defense ministry began disclosing almost daily Chinese military flights over the waters between the southern part of Taiwan and the Taiwan-controlled Pratas Islands in the South China Sea last year.
Some of the Chinese aircraft flew in the airspace to the south of Taiwan and passed through the Bashi Channel which separates the island from the Philippines, Taiwan’s defense ministry said in a statement.
A person familiar with Taiwan’s security planning told Reuters the Chinese military was conducting exercises that would simulate an operation against U.S. warships that sail through the Bashi Channel.
China, which claims Taiwan as its own territory, has stepped up military activities near the democratic island in recent months, a move Taiwan says jeopardizes regional stability.
The presence of so many Chinese combat aircraft on Friday’s mission—Taiwan said it was made up of four nuclear-capable H-6K bombers and 10 J-16 fighter jets, among others—was unusual and came as the island’s air force suspended all training missions after two fighter jet crashes this week.
There was no immediate comment from China’s defense ministry. Beijing routinely says such exercises are nothing unusual and are designed to show the country’s determination to defend its sovereignty.
Earlier on Friday, Taiwan and the United States signed their first agreement under the administration of new president Joe Biden, establishing a Coast Guard Working Group to coordinate policy, after China’s passing of a law that allows its coast guard to fire on foreign vessels.
While the United States, like most countries, has no formal diplomatic ties with Taiwan, it is bound by law to help Taiwan defend itself and is the island’s main arms supplier.

Biden Administration Converting Third Convention Center to Illegal Immigrant Holding Facility
President Joe Biden’s administration is going to use a third convention center to house illegal immigrant youth.
The Freeman Expo Center in San Antonio is being converted to an Emergency Intake Center for children who cross the southern border without their parents.
Up to 2,400 kids can be housed at the facility, according to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and its Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR).
“The Emergency Intake Site will provide ORR with needed capacity to accept children from Customs and Border Protection (CBP) into its care where they can be safely processed, cared for and either released to a sponsor or transferred to an appropriate ORR shelter for longer-term care. The Emergency Intake Site is intended for use as a temporary measure,” the agency said in a statement obtained by The Epoch Times.
The administration has already reached deals to house up to 1,400 immigrant youth in the San Diego Convention Center and up to 2,300 youth in the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center in Dallas.
Additionally, officials have opened at least five other locations to hold the children, and the Pentagon accepted requests to keep thousands of youth at Fort Bliss and another several hundred at Joint Base San Antonio Lackland. In total, ORR operates over 200 facilities and programs in 22 states. There’s also a plan to send illegal immigrant families to hotels, with taxpayers footing the bill.
Bexar County’s manager didn’t immediately return an inquiry. Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff, asked about facilities possibly being used to house immigrants, told reporters on Tuesday that no agreement had been reached yet.
“We do have facilities there. They’re climate control. They’re large. But we are talking about, how will we handle security? Who would be the food provider, who will actually be managing the place? It’d be pretty much our job to, if we do it, to coordinate with them and to make the space available, but no agreements been reached yet. We’re just now talking about a possible contract,” he said.
The United States saw a jump in illegal border crossings in February, including an increase of over 3,600 unaccompanied minors from the month before. Officials have struggled to deal with the increase, with overcrowded conditions in Border Patrol facilities exposed through leaked photographs.

State Rep. Steve Toth (R-Spring) publicly presented for the first time yesterday his bill to ban sex-change procedures for children.
House Bill (HB) 68, which Toth has dubbed “The Innocence Protection Act,” has sat in the Texas House Public Health Committee for a month. It would classify medical procedures to change a child’s sex, such as puberty blockers or genital surgeries, as child abuse.
A number of activists and medical professionals appeared at the presser to speak alongside Toth and Jeff Younger, the father of James Younger. James is a young Texas boy whose mother claims against the father’s opposition that he is a transgender girl named Luna. Mr. Younger and the boy’s mother engaged in a fraught and publicized tug-of-war over custody rights with treatment for the boy’s alleged gender dysphoria at stake.
Mr. Younger claims that James’ mother Anne Georgulas was close to getting the boy puberty blockers and other physical sex change treatments before the court granted him joint conservatorship over his son.
“It’s very clear that schools, government agencies, courts, and psychological boards of examiners are not going to do the right thing,” Younger said.

Under the leadership of World Health Organization COVID-19 investigator Peter Daszak, his EcoHealth Alliance group organized a China-based conference that counted various Chinese Communist Party-controlled entities as sponsors.
The news of the CCP-backed conference follows National Pulse reporting highlighting Daszak’s involvement with other Chinese government-sponsored conferences and promotion of Chinese state-run media outlets on his social media.
The October 2012 event – “Sustaining Ecosystems, Supporting Health” – was held in the Chinese city of Kunming, in the Yunnan province, about 2 hours flight from Wuhan.
Daszak is listed as a member of the conference’s Steering Committee and an ex-officio board member of the organizer: the International Association for Ecology & Health. Daszak also served as Editor-in-Chief of EcoHealth, a publication associated with the conference’s sponsor. The journal’s website now displays “OOPS! THAT PAGE CAN’T BE FOUND” on pages relating to the 2012 conference, including the event’s schedule, presenter abstracts, and concluding statements.
Archived versions of the site, however, reveal Daszak chaired two sessions at the conference on “USAID-PREDICT: Developing a global early warning system for emerging pandemics” and “OneHealth, and Emerging, Re-emerging and Resurging Infectious Diseases.” He also delivered a presentation on “mapping global vulnerability to pandemics and an economic approach to their prevention.”
“In this symposium, the participants will discuss the investments and issues involved with moving towards a global surveillance and response system for emerging zoonotic diseases, and lessons learned the past 3 years of the Emerging Pandemic Threats program. This will include an EcoHealth or ‘One Health’ strategy for wildlife pathogen discovery, risk determination through the use of geo-temporal models, and strengthening local laboratory and field capacities for investigating and responding to disease outbreaks,” an archived summary of Daszak’s panel reads.
Also speaking at the conference were several academic from Chinese state-run universities and think-tanks, including a former Deputy Director-General of China’s Centre for Disease Control and Prevention.
One of the conference organizers – the Kunming Institute of Botany (KIB) – counts researchers who admit to editing scientific encyclopedias to better the “construction of socialist culture with Chinese characteristics” and operate “under the direct leadership of Communist Party of China.” KIB researchers have also included honors such as “Excellent Communist Party Member” on their resumes.

A Victorian man has admitted to five sick acts after he was caught with disgusting videos of himself with a female child in the Philippines.
A Victorian man has pleaded guilty to five charges related to the sexual abuse of children in the Philippines.
Phillip John Cooper pleaded guilty to in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday to soliciting child porn, engaging in sexual activity with a child under 16 in the Philippines, causing child abuse material to be sent to him, possessing child abuse material, and intent to engage in sexual intercourse with a child under 16.
Cooper was arrested on November 7, 2019, after being stopped by authorities at Melbourne Airport.
A subsequent search of his home turned up videos of Cooper engaging in sexual activity with female Filipino children, police say.
Nine children, including some as young as two years old, were rescued in the Philippines in February after a tip-off from Australian Federal Police.
Philippine National Police launched an operation on February 3, 2021, in Angeles City, north of the capital Manila, that also led to the arrest of a 42-year-old woman for her alleged role as the facilitator.
The children, aged between two and 16 years old, were removed from harm after the AFP alerted the Philippine Internet Crimes Against Children Centre.
Members of the public who have any information about people involved in child abuse and exploitation are urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Cooper will next appear in the County Court on August 25.

n the wake of two mass shootings in the U.S. in a single week, the White House said Friday that President Biden is prepared to issue executive orders to enact gun reform, circumventing the need for a divided Congress to pass legislation.
White House press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters at a briefing that she couldn’t offer an “exact time frame” on when those orders would move off Biden’s desk, but said they were “one of the levers that we can use … to help address the prevalence of gun violence and address community safety around the country.”
Biden, however, made clear during his Thursday afternoon press conference that infrastructure rather than gun reform would be his next legislative priority, which led to complaints from gun control activists and progressive Democrats.
Psaki said Biden understands their frustration and suggested that their ire be directed toward those members of Congress who are voting to block gun control legislation.

Tennessee man faces child pornography charges
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A Clarksville, Tennessee man was arrested last week and charged with possession of child pornography.
Homeland Security Investigation (HSI) agents arrested Austin Kidd, 27, March 17, 2021, at his residence. After appearing before a U.S. Magistrate Judge, he was ordered held in custody pending trial.
“The predators who exploit children through the production and distribution of child pornography often cause the victims to suffer long-term effects,” said Jerry C. Templet, Jr., special agent in charge, HSI Nashville. “The perpetrator in this case was only steps away from being hired as a substitute teacher for middle school children, making his actions especially egregious. HSI Nashville agents will continue to investigate these perpetrators to ensure they are punished for their heinous actions.”
According to the criminal complaint on file with U.S. District Court, in March 2020, HSI Nashville received an investigative referral pertaining to Kidd and his internet activity in April 2019. Agents identified a Facebook account, “ShadowPhoenix24”, as belonging to Kidd and through further investigation, agents identified Internet Protocol addresses associated with Kidd’s home address in Clarksville. Agents were also aware that in August 2019, a foreign law enforcement agency notified the FBI of an IP address in San Antonio, Texas, that was used to access online child sexual abuse and exploitation material. This address was found to have been occupied by Kidd during the time the access occurred and before he relocated to Clarksville.
Through further investigation, HSI agents determined that the IP address associated with Kidd’s Clarksville residence had accessed The Onion Router network, which is a network that masks the IP address of users and is commonly used by persons when accessing child pornography.
Agents obtained a federal search warrant for Kidd’s residence based on the information obtained through the investigation, and subsequently seized his cell phone and other media storage devices. To date, approximately 260 suspected images and videos depicting child sexual abuse have been identified on the devices.
The complaint further alleges that Kidd is in the final hiring process to become a substitute teacher for middle school children.
If convicted, Kidd faces up to 20 years in prison.
A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Kidd is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
HSI is a directorate of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the principal investigative arm of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), responsible for investigating transnational crime and threats, specifically those criminal organizations that exploit the global infrastructure through which international trade, travel, and finance move. SEATTLE - U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers removed a Mexican national Tuesday, who is a dangerous public safety threat with convictions in both Washington and Oregon for egregious crimes including first degree child molestation, first degree attempt to commit sexual penetration, and first degree attempt to commit sexual abuse.
Juan Manuel Enriquez-Martinez, 40, was convicted June 23, 2015 in the Wasco County Circuit Court of Oregon of attempting to commit sexual penetration and for attempting to commit sexual abuse in the first degree for which respective sentences of 56 months and 14 months confinement were imposed.
On Jan. 19, 2016, Enriquez-Martinez was convicted in the Klickitat County Superior Court for the State of Washington of child molestation in the first degree for which a sentence of 68 months of confinement was imposed.
Enriquez-Martinez came to the attention of ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) officers as a result of his criminal convictions.
On March 1, 2016, ICE ERO’s Portland office lodged an immigration detainer on Enriquez-Martinez with the Federal Correction Institute in Sheridan, Oregon, where he was being detained. ICE lodges immigration detainers on individuals like Enriquez-Martinez who have been arrested on local criminal charges and who are suspected of being removable, so that ICE can take custody of that person when he or she is released from local custody.
On Feb. 22, 2021, the Washington Department of Corrections transferred custody of Enrique-Martinez to ICE.
On March 10, 2021, an immigration judge ordered Enriquez-Martinez removed to Mexico and Enriquez-Martinez waived his right to appeal the decision.
Enriquez-Martinez was removed from the United States via an ICE Air Operations charter flight and transferred to the custody of Mexican authorities.
ICE is now implementing the civil immigration enforcement priorities directed by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on Jan. 20, 2021, to focus its limited resources on threats to national security, border security and public safety. ICE will continue to carry out its duty to enforce the laws of the United States in accordance with the Department’s national security and public safety mission.

Sudan has begun clearing its $60 billion arrears and got access to the new grants from the World Bank after 30 years of blockade, the Sudanese Council of Ministers said in statement on Friday.
The statement further disclosed that Sudan would receive a $2 billion grant within the next two years.
According to the statement, the clearance would also enable Sudan to get $635 million in immediate support for its collapsing economy.
The arrear clearance immediately allows Sudan's access to concessional financing and other services from the World Bank, the statement added.

Post-vaccination “breakthrough” COVID-19 infections are being taken “seriously,” Dr. Anthony Fauci said Friday as federal officials expressed concern about rising coronavirus cases in the US.
“With regard to the breakthrough cases of people who have been vaccinated and ultimately have gotten infection, obviously this is something that we take seriously and follow closely,” the nation’s top infectious disease expert said during virtual White House coronavirus briefing.
Fauci explained that some breakthrough infections in fully vaccinated individuals is not entirely uncommon with any vaccination effort.
“You will see breakthrough infections in any vaccination when you’re vaccinating literally tens and tens and tens of millions of people, so in some respects that’s not surprising,” said Fauci.
Fauci said that “one of the important things that will be done, and must be done, is to sequence the genome of the virus that’s the breakthrough virus” in order to find out whether infection was from the original virus strain or one of the COVID-19 variants.
“It would be very important to see if they broke through with the wild-type virus, which would indicate a real diminution of immunity or whether it broke through with one of the variants, which would be much more explainable if you don’t have enough cross-reactivity,” he said.
Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, added, “So all of that information will be collected and will be very informative to us about the type and the frequency of breakthrough that we’ll be seeing.”
Fauci’s comments come after Minnesota reported this week 89 breakthrough infections among people who have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus.
None of them were among Minnesota’s 6,798 COVID-19 fatalities, including the nine deaths reported Wednesday, and doctors noted that even those who were hospitalized after being vaccinated had milder illness, the Star Tribune reported.
Idaho health officials also said this week there have been fewer than 100 reported breakthrough COVID-19 cases, according to KTVB.
Meanwhile, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said during the briefing that the US is averaging about 57,000 COVID-19 cases per day and that the seven-day average of cases has ticked up by 7 percent.

There’s no doubt that if you spend much time on the internet, you’re going to be buried in an avalanche of false claims, exaggerations, conspiracy theories with no basis in fact, and outright, bald-faced lies from politicians of the right, left, and center.
The “Information Age” has become a nightmare from which we are unable to awaken. As it turns out, there is, indeed, such a thing as too much information. We are all forced to selectively filter what information we process, resulting in our natural biases playing a large role in what information we actually absorb.
Take the border crisis. Whom do you believe? Whose opinion do you trust? Whose facts can you rely on?

Yet yesterday, President Joe Biden stood before the American public and insisted that “nothing has changed,” and that everything we were seeing — to the extent the Biden administration is allowing the public to see it — was normal: “Truth of the matter is nothing has changed. As many people came, 28 percent increase in children to the border in my administration. 31 percent in the last year of — in 2019, before the pandemic, in the Trump administration. It happens every single solitary year. There is a significant increase in the number of people coming to the border in the winter months of January, February, March.”
That’s a lie. Not a misstatement of fact. We have a record number of people coming to the border — 45 percent above the highest year on record. That makes it a crisis to all but the hackiest partisan out there.
Our large and respected institutions — the mainstream media, big tech companies, the heights of academia, think tanks such as the Aspen Institute — are well-practiced and on guard to spot and dispel any misinformation that comes from the right side of the political spectrum. But they either don’t see, don’t care, fear confronting, or support misinformation that comes from the left side of the political spectrum.
When one side claims ownership of the truth and then deliberately — or unconsciously — subverts it by being guilty of the same sins they accuse the other side of committing, society is in deep trouble.
But we also have to deal with much bigger, much more prestigious voices who tell us Andrew Cuomo’s “competent and, at times, charismatic handling of the coronavirus crisis in his state has made him one of the most popular politicians in America today.” And the credulous coverage of that Florida Grim Reaper guy, who argued that people were taking reckless risks with others’ lives by going to the beach. And the nonsensical claims of the so-called “top scientist” leading Florida’s pandemic response, who has held three jobs in her field, with all three ending in her being terminated and criminally charged. And that Georgia’s decision to allow gyms, churches, and hair and nail salons to reopen represented an “experiment in human sacrifice.”
Information is more than facts and opinions. It is words and ideas. And in the hands of a clever wordsmith, up can appear to be down, black can look like white, and ideas can be twisted and manipulated to serve whatever master is paying for it.

EcoHealth Alliance has for years been linked with Chinese infectious disease laboratory suspected as possible source of the novel coronavirus.
A watchdog group is claiming that a U.S. bio-research nonprofit failed to follow U.S. law and publicly disclose its taxpayer-funded grants to a Chinese coronavirus laboratory under scrutiny for its immediate proximity to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The White Coat Waste Project, a group dedicated to stopping taxpayer funding of what it claims is "wasteful and cruel animal experimentation," claimed last week in a filing to the National Institutes of Health's Division of Program Integrity that EcoHealth Alliance has engaged in "widespread violations of federal spending transparency law" by way of numerous press releases over the past several years.
Federal tax records show that EcoHealth Alliance funneled federal NIH grants to the Wuhan Institute of Virology for several years leading up to the start of the pandemic, ultimately handing the lab hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxpayer money to conduct experiments into potentially pandemic coronaviruses. The Wuhan lab is located just a few miles from where Chinese officials claimed the pandemic began at a local wet market.
In its letter to the NIH, White Coat claims that EcoHealth has "failed to publicly disclose taxpayer funding for its work with WIV, in violation of federal law."
The group says EcoHealth violated the Stevens Amendment, a federal provision that directs recipients of some federal grants to "make certain funding disclosures when issuing statements, press releases, bid solicitations, and other documents describing their grant project or program," according to the Government Accountability Office.
Recipients of grants from the Department of Health and Human Services — of which the NIH is a sub-agency — are enjoined to make such disclosures. White Coat claims that "virtually all of EHA's press releases reporting its taxpayer-funded experiments over the last three years violate the Stevens Amendment."
The group cites multiple press releases as examples, including ones from 2018 and 2020, both of which reference work done in partnership with the Wuhan Institute of Virology and neither of which disclose its links to federal funding.
Peter Daszak, the president of EcoHealth Alliance, did not respond to queries seeking comment on the allegations. Nor did Deborah Kearse, the director of the NIH's Division of Program Integrity, to whom the letter was addressed.
Justin Goodman, the vice president of advocacy and public policy at White Coat, told Just the News that the NIH had confirmed receipt of the complaint following its submission.
"Taxpayers have a right to know — and federal law requires that we're told — exactly how much of our money EcoHealth has shipped to the notorious CCP-run Wuhan animal lab for reckless coronavirus experiments that may have caused the pandemic," Goodman said.
"EcoHealth's rampant violations of federal transparency law are yet another example of the group and its President Peter Daszak obscuring their close ties to — and financial support for — the Wuhan animal lab."

US President Joe Biden earlier claimed that it would be difficult to withdraw all American forces from Afghanistan by 1 May, thus suggesting that Washington might violate obligations made under a peace agreement with the Taliban (considered a terrorist organisation in Russia).
The Taliban has issued a statement warning that the group will resume hostilities against foreign troops in Afghanistan if they do not withdraw by 1 May.
"[We will be] compelled to defend its religion and homeland and continue its Jihad and armed struggle against foreign forces to liberate its country", the statement from the terrorist organisation said.
The statement by the militant group comes in the wake of US President Joe Biden's first press conference during which he claimed that withdrawing American troops from Afghanistan by 1 May might prove "hard" to pull off. However, The Taliban regards a scenario in which Washington fails to complete its withdrawal in time as "a violation of the accord" that the US struck a year ago with the organisation.
The agreement, signed under the Donald Trump administration, suggested a full and gradual withdrawal of American forces from the country by a deadline of 1 May if the Taliban refrain from attacking them – a provision the militant group has largely abided by. Under the deal, the Taliban also vowed to prevent Al Qaeda* from getting a foothold on its territory and to start peace talks with Kabul. The latter have already started, but have as yet to yield any significant results.
Biden did not clarify the exact reasons why the US might not be able to complete the troops' withdrawal before the deadline. At the same time, the Democrat claimed he does not expect the American troops to be in Afghanistan in 2022.
2021 marks the 20th anniversary of the War in Afghanistan, which was started by the US in the wake of the 11 September terrorist attacks. The declared goal was to overthrow the Taliban's control of the country and drive the Al Qaeda terrorist group - which was being harboured by the Taliban - from the territory. Despite two decades of fighting, Washington, in cooperation with NATO allies, has failed to drive the Taliban completely out of Afghanistan or train Kabul security forces to withstand the Taliban's attacks without external help.
