The Taiwanese-based company announced the move amid an expansion and modernization push across the industry.
TAIPEI — Evergreen Marine Corporation announced that it plans to order and finance the building of twenty new 15,000 TEU containerships in a bid to boost floating assets, modernization, and the expansion of operations.
Mike Schuler, a journalist for GCaptain, reported that the order was approved by the Board of Directors of Greencompass Marine SA. Greencompass is a Panamanian subsidiary for Evergreen, dealing primarily with Western Hemisphere transiting operations.
According to Evergreen, shipyards in China, Korea, and Japan have been shortlisted by the company to develop the vessels. These include Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Shanghai), Jiangnan Shipyard (Shanghai), Imabari Shipbuilding (Japan), Samsung Heavy Industries (South Korea), and Hyundai Heavy Industries (South Korea; the world’s largest shipbuilding company).
The proposed vessels are anticipated to cost between $115 million and $130 million each for a total value of up to $2.6 billion. Schuler notes that Evergreen Line is the world’s seventh-largest ocean carrier with about 1.3 million TEU capacity. This represents over 5 percent of the global share. Newbuild orders will add 300,000 TEU capacity to its fleet if all of the vessels are built.

It appears Gov. Kristi Noem is hoping to use the goodwill she earned through her COVID courage to hide her cowardly and deceptive choices about transgender politics.
South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem has rightly made a national name for herself courageously standing, almost alone, for science, sanity, and constitutional rights during the COVID panic. Yet it appears she’s hoping to use the goodwill she earned through this courage to hide her cowardly and deceptive choices about transgender politics.
Like the governors who should have learned from her example on lockdowns and have instead doubled down on their leadership failures, Noem could decide to come clean, change course, and pursue common-sense policies about sex. Or she could continue to eviscerate her credibility and earned goodwill by selling out her own constituents on behalf of sexually debauched corporatists, as Mike Pence did when governor of Indiana.
Rolling over to leftists in the culture war is certainly what voters have come to expect from politicians with an R after their names not named Donald Trump. But it also would be what Trump taught voters we don’t have to put up with anymore. Any standard-bearer of today’s right must fight the culture war, not hide from it. Unless reversed, her capitulation has disqualified Noem from national leadership.
Based on her tweets, a Monday press conference, and media appearances, Noem appears to be insisting people believe she’s acting to “protect girls’ sports” while actually abdicating her power to do so. She appears to be expecting that the people listening are so easily fooled that she can say what she knows they want to hear while doing what undermines what they want done. Let’s look at her arguments and the context to see this is clearly the case.
Expecting People to Believe Plainly False Assertions
As Margot Cleveland detailed in these pages Monday, the South Dakota legislature sent Noem a bill that would have forbidden males from playing in female sports from kindergarten through college in South Dakota, including mechanisms for verifying student-athletes’ biological sex and allowing for legal redress against anyone who broke this would-be law.
Noem sent the bill back to the legislature, demanding significant changes in a veto message. Her desired changes would allow men to compete in women’s sports at the college level — and potentially K-12, based on birth certificate rules — and eliminate penalties for violating it. Essentially, Noem’s changes would make the law toothless.
In attempting to defend her actions to Tucker Carlson, Noem made false and misleading claims. At least three times in the Carlson interview alone, Noem tried to blame the NCAA for her refusal to sign a bill to protect women’s sports. Here’s one:

When Donald Trump was US president, his tweets kept news outlets on constant edge. While he followed counsel not to shift operations to Parler after Twitter and Facebook locked his accounts in January, an adviser recently let slip that the real estate mogul wouldn’t be absent from social media forever.
Looking to found a new social media venue after being banned from nearly every mainstream platform, former US President Donald Trump has explored hosting it with several tech firms, including FreeSpace, according to a report by Axios.
Citing “sources familiar with the private discussions,” Axios reported Wednesday that Trump has “more meetings this week” with other tech companies, but was looking intently at FreeSpace, which his tech adviser, Dan Scavino, also reportedly likes.
FreeSpace is a newly formed social media company that bills itself as a networking platform for “free-thinkers, athletes and entrepreneurs.” Axios noted that its app was only launched on the Apple and Google stores last month ,and has just 20,000 downloads. It has many of the same features as most social media platforms, including interactable profiles and private groups and messaging functions.
Before Trump’s account was suspended by Twitter in January, he had some 88 million followers. The social media giant shut down his account in the aftermath of the January 6 insurrection at the US Capitol by his followers, which was widely accused of having egged on, although a Senate trial acquitted him of that charge. His accounts were similarly disabled on Facebook and Instagram. The app Parler, which some of the organized participants in the riot reportedly used to coordinate their actions, was disabled in its entirety for a time before eventually being restored.
On Sunday, chief Trump adviser and former spokesperson Jason Miller told Fox News that Trump would likely return to social media with his own platform “in probably about two or three months.”
“There have been a lot of high-powered meetings he’s been having at Mar-a-Lago with some teams of folks who’ve been coming in. It’s not just one company that’s approached the president. There have been numerous companies,” Miller added. “But I think the president does know what direction that he wants to head here. This platform is going to be big, and everyone wants him. He’s going to bring millions and millions – tens of millions of people to this new platform.”
Earlier on Wednesday, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), a democratic socialist who faced no shortage of vitriol from Trump, told New York Times columnist Ezra Klein that he didn’t “feel comfortable” at the time of Trump’s social media ban with such a powerful figure being muzzled by “a handful of high-tech people.”

Female reproductive development and estrogen levels also have been altered. “In some parts of the world, the average twenty-something today is less fertile than her grandmother was at 35,” Swan said.
Reproductive havoc is affecting animals, too, the scientist said, pointing to such findings as unusually small penises in alligators, panthers and mink, as well as more fish, frogs, birds and snapping turtles having “ambiguous genitalia.”

Falling fertility rates are predicted to halve the populations of 23 countries, including Spain, Japan and Italy, by 2100, according to a University of Washington study. The founder of bottled-water maker Real Water has publicly apologized after five kids who drank its product came down with liver failure.
Real Water president Brent Jones issued the mea culpa amid a Food and Drug Administration probe of the alkaline water, which has been linked to several cases of hepatitis.
The feds say five infants and children in southern Nevada who consumed the brand’s water came down with non-viral hepatitis that resulted in acute liver failure and put them in the hospital.
While those patients have recovered, five other people from two of their households also suffered symptoms such as fever, vomiting and nausea, according to the FDA.

Swan alleges that phthalates, which are used in plastics manufacturing, and other chemicals have led to such alarming effects as: an increasing number of babies being born with small penises; sharply lower testosterone levels in men; sperm counts in Western countries plunging 59% from 1973 to 2011; and a fertility decline of more than 50% over the past half century.
Female reproductive development and estrogen levels also have been altered. “In some parts of the world, the average twenty-something today is less fertile than her grandmother was at 35,” Swan said.
Reproductive havoc is affecting animals, too, the scientist said, pointing to such findings as unusually small penises in alligators, panthers and mink, as well as more fish, frogs, birds and snapping turtles having “ambiguous genitalia.”
“Unless we take steps to reverse these harmful influences, the planet’s species are in grave danger,” Swan said. She wrote that humans meet three of the five criteria that define whether a species is endangered. Only one of the five has to be met for a species to be endangered.
Falling fertility rates are predicted to halve the populations of 23 countries, including Spain, Japan and Italy, by 2100, according to a University of Washington study. The global fertility rate (the number of children that an average woman gives birth to in her lifetime) is forecast to drop from 2.4 in 2017 – just above the 2.1 level pegged by the UN as necessary to maintain current population levels – to 1.7 in 2100.
Some people are in denial about the alarming fertility trends, Swan said, while others brush it off because they consider the planet to be overpopulated. It may take decades to get the public to take the issue seriously.
“Sweeping modifications” to the kinds and volumes of chemicals that are pumped into the environment are needed to restore reproductivity, she added.

Before getting itself into a pickle by running aground in the Suez Canal, this unfortunate vessel drew one.
According to nautical tracking service VesselFinder, the massive Ever Given charted a route resemblant of a penis, testicles and an enormous butt in the Red Sea before it became stuck, causing an intercontinental traffic jam in the maritime artery.
As for the possibility that the vessel tracking site somehow conjured the data as a juvenile genital joke, “There is no room for some kind of conspiracies or false data,” a spokesperson for the site told Vice.
“Innocent, but terrible luck,” disinformation researcher John Scott-Railton captioned a tweet of the Ever Given’s watery, x-rated route.
The gigantic ship — which measures in at more than four football fields long and over 440 million pounds — became lodged in the Suez Canal when high winds and a dust storm turned it sideways on Tuesday. Previous to that, it was en route to the Netherlands from China. The way in which the ship became stuck was “the most awkward way possible,” Scott-Railton tweeted.
