There’s two cases pending before the SC: Trump v Biden, 20-882, was filed December 29 and appeals a decision of the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Trump v Wisconsin Election Commission, 20-883, was filed December 30 and appeals a decision of the Seventh Circuit.

-Community detection analysis on the dataset reveals five main sub-communities involved in the discussion: four communities that appear to promote claims of voter fraud ("promoters") and one community of "detractors" (colored blue in Figure 1 on this page).

The 26,000 National Guard troops stationed in Washington, D.C., were ready for anything, but Inauguration Day passed without them facing a single security problem.

"There were no security incidents reported involving the National Guard," according to a National Guard Bureau news release.

He said the next step will be to ensure that federal law enforcement's security needs are satisfied before troops begin to redeploy.

"We will continue to support federal law enforcement as requested," Hokanson said in the release. "Our Guard members will return home as soon as conditions permit."

The force could shrink rapidly, but at a minimum, the 6,200 Guard members mobilized Jan. 7 following the Capitol breach will remain in Washington through Feb. 7–, he told reporters Tuesday. The rest were requested by federal law enforcement to support the inauguration.

Rand Paul Challenges New Secretary Of State Over Regime-Change In Syria

Senator Rand Paul recently challenged the new Secretary of State nominee Anthony Blinken on his history of pushing regime change in the Middle East and North Africa:

"Regime change in the Middle East has led to chaos, instability and more terrorism," Sen. Paul argued.

"Like Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton you've been a supporter of military intervention in the Middle East from the Iraq war to the Libyan war to the Syrian civil war…" he introduced in his Tuesday questoning of Blinken.

Sen. Paul began his argument by questioning Blinken’s role in the NATO intervention of Libya in 2001 and his support for the US military invasion of Iraq in 2003, which the Kentucky congressman said was a major disaster that paved the way for a stronger Iran.

The congressman argued that Blinken continued to push regime change in Syria, which he said was a significant blunder, especially with the amount of money spent training "moderate rebel forces".

Sen. Paul said the administration of former President Barack Obama spent $250 million (USD) on training 60 rebels [as part of the DoD side; the CIA program was much more expansive], which he said was a waste of money.

He would go on to question why Blinken would support the Syrian opposition groups on the ground, as he pointed out the most powerful fighters are those from the jihadist groups like the Al-Nusra Front.

"Even after Libya you guys went on to Syria wanting to do the same thing again… it's a disaster. The lesson of these wars is that regime change doesn't work!" Paul said.

"You got rid of one 'bad guy' and another 'bad guy' got stronger," Paul added while lambasting the US strategy of going after Iran while Iraq is still weakened by Bush's regime change war there.

"Maybe we shouldn't be 'choosing' governments in the Middle East," Paul continued.

Democratic House Oversight Committee chair asks FBI to investigate Parler for role in Capitol riot and ties to Russia

A letter to the FBI director requests a 'comprehensive investigation' of the 'assault on the Capitol' and specifically the 'role the social media site Parler played in the assault'

The top Democrat on the House Committee on Oversight and Reform has asked the FBI to investigate social media company Parler for its purported role in the Jan. 6 riot at the United States Capitol and alleged ties to Russia.

Committee Chairwoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-N.Y.) on Thursday sent a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray requesting a "comprehensive investigation" of the "assault on the Capitol" and specifically the "role the social media site Parler played in the assault."

"I am writing to request that as part of its comprehensive investigation of the January 6 assault on the Capitol, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conduct a robust examination of the role that the social media site Parler played in the assault, including as a potential facilitator of planning and incitement related to the violence, as a repository of key evidence posted by users on its site, and as a potential conduit for foreign governments who may be financing civil unrest in the United States," Maloney wrote.

Following the events of Jan. 6, Parler became the focus of media reports alleging that the platform was used to coordinate the violent activity that took place. Amazon Web Services booted the website from its web hosting service, citing "a steady increase in violent content," and Google and Apple removed the Parler app from their respective app stores.

The press statement from Maloney notes that some Parler users have been arrested on charges related to the Capitol riot. For example, Troy Anthony Smocks, 58, of Dallas, Texas, was charged for allegedly making violent threats against "RINOS, Dems, and Tech Execs" on his Parler account.

Additionally, Maloney wants the FBI to review Parler's finances and alleged ties to Russia after the website partially re-launched, hiring DDoS-Guard — a Russian digital infrastructure company — to defend against denial of service attacks.

"Given these concerns, we ask that the FBI undertake a robust review of the role played by Parler in the January 6 attacks, including (1) as a potential facilitator of planning and incitement related to the attacks, (2) as a repository of key evidence posted by users on its site, and (3) as potential conduit for foreign governments who may be financing civil unrest in the United States," Maloney wrote.

"In addition, as the Committee conducts its own investigation of these matters to inform its oversight and legislative efforts, I request a meeting with appropriate FBI officials on the status and scope of its review, consistent with protecting the integrity of law enforcement efforts on this front," she continued.

Reports have indicated that violent rhetoric and threats against public officials were made on numerous social media platforms, including Facebook and Twitter. So far there is no Democratic-led effort to have the FBI investigate those websites.

Russian Ambassador to US Antonov Says Still No Contact With Biden Administration

Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said on Thursday that the Russian Embassy has not yet had any contacts with the new administration of President Joe Biden.

"It’s 11:30 a.m. now in Washington, DC, the Embassy has not yet had any contacts with the Biden administration," Antonov said in an interview with the Russia 1 TV Chanel.

Biden was sworn in and took office as the 46th US president on Wednesday.

Antonov told Sputnik earlier that Russian diplomats intend to establish regular contacts with the new US administration.

The Russian ambassador said the new administration should be given time to decide on foreign policy priorities and approaches, and its international course should be judged based on actions rather than pre-election rhetoric.

Kevin McCarthy: Joe Biden More Interested in Helping Illegal Immigrants than Americans

House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said during a press conference Thursday that President Joe Biden is more interested in helping illegal immigrants than helping American citizens.

McCarthy said he was disappointed “to see within hours of assuming office, the new administration is more interested in helping illegal immigrants than helping our own citizens.”

Biden is currently working on pushing a bill that would provide amnesty for more than 11 million illegal immigrants. The plan would reportedly provide amnesty for illegal immigrants who arrived before January 1, 2021.

McCarthy’s statement follows as he told Breitbart News’s Matthew Boyle that Biden is preparing to provide amnesty for millions of Americans while millions of Americans remain out of work due to the coronavirus.

McCarthy said:

The coronavirus and government-imposed lockdowns have left millions of Americans unemployed and small businesses shut down. Our immediate national priority must be to help Americans get back to work. Instead, the first legislative priority we get from the new administration is not one aimed at lowering unemployment for Americans or reopening our economy, but a radical immigration bill granting citizenship to millions of illegal aliens.

Not only does it undermine our rule of law and encourage more illegal immigration, it tells our fellow Americans their misfortune isn’t our nation’s top priority. Will this proposal help Americans get back to work? Most certainly not. And until that happens, the Biden administration must focus on helping our own citizens first.

Other Republicans, such as Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL), Ted Cruz (R-TX), and Tom Cotton (R-AR), warned of the potential negative effects amnesty would have on America.

Cruz said in a statement Wednesday:

It is deeply troubling that most of Joe Biden’s first acts as president were to protect illegal immigrants and encourage illegal immigration at the expense of American jobs and workers. Not only has he chosen to halt construction of a wall on America’s southern border and to continue Barack Obama’s illegal executive amnesty by preserving the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, but he is promoting open-borders legislation that would gift citizenship to over 11 million illegal immigrants, roll back immigration enforcement, and promote and increase foreign labor at a time when many Americans desperately need work.

“These actions illustrate that today’s Democratic Party puts people here illegally – or attempting to come here illegally – before American workers. President Biden and his administration may not see a problem with illegal immigration, but millions of working men and women do,” he added.

A Pennsylvania woman facing charges that she helped steal a laptop from the office of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi during the attack on the U.S. Capitol will be released from jail, a federal judge decided Thursday.

The FBI says an unidentified former romantic partner of Williams tipped them off that she appeared in video from the Jan. 6 rioting and the tipster claimed she had hoped to sell the computer to Russian intelligence.

Williams’ defense lawyer, Lori Ulrich, told Carlson the tipster is a former boyfriend who had been abusive to Williams and that “his accusations are overstated.”

The agent’s affidavit said a cellphone video that was likely shot by Williams shows a man’s gloved hand lifting an HP laptop from a table, and the caption read, “they got the laptop.”

Pelosi’s deputy chief of staff, Drew Hammill, has said a laptop used only for presentations was taken from a conference room. The current location of the computer has not been disclosed in court documents, and was not discussed in court on Thursday.

House cancels business during first full Biden week

The House won’t meet next week, Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Thursday, canceling the first full week for the chamber under President Biden.

Mrs. Pelosi said committees will continue to press forward with their business, and she hopes to have a coronavirus package ready for the floor by the first week in February.

“As we work in these issues, we won’t be back in session until the beginning of February,” Mrs. Pelosi said.

The move drew a strong rebuke from Rep. Kevin McCarthy, Republicans’ leader,

“I just heard the majority party is now telling us to go home, one day into a new administration,” Mr. McCarthy said. “When Republicans are in the majority, we will not take the first week off.”

"The U.S. bishops’ conference held back a statement on incoming President Joe Biden Wednesday morning, after officials from the Vatican Secretariat of State intervened before the statement could be released.

The statement, from conference president Archbishop Jose Gomez, took uncompromising positions on abortion, gender, and religious liberty, warning that the Biden administration’s policy agenda would advance “moral evils” on several fronts.

“[A]s pastors, the nation’s bishops are given the duty of proclaiming the Gospel in all its truth and power, in season and out of season, even when that teaching is inconvenient or when the Gospel’s truths run contrary to the directions of the wider society and culture,” Archbishop Jose Gomez wrote in a statement that was expected to be released at 9:00 am Jan. 20.

“So, I must point out that our new President has pledged to pursue certain policies that would advance moral evils and threaten human life and dignity, most seriously in the areas of abortion, contraception, marriage, and gender. Of deep concern is the liberty of the Church and the freedom of believers to live according to their consciences,” Gomez added.

The statement was not released Wednesday morning, and bishops were informed by USCCB officials that it remained under embargo, even after one media outlet reported it had been released.

Sources in the Vatican Secretariat of State, others close to the U.S. bishops’ conference, and sources among the U.S. bishops have confirmed to The Pillar that the statement was spiked after intervention from the Vatican Secretariat of State, hours before it was due to be released.

The statement had been debated hotly late into Tuesday evening, but multiple sources say it was the intervention of the Vatican that led to its delay.

==Sources close to the USCCB say that several American bishops had raised concerns about the statement’s release, deeming it unduly critical of the incoming administration.

Three sources close to the bishops’ conference said that objections to the statement’s release came from Cardinal Joseph Tobin of Newark and Cardinal Blase Cupich of Chicago, among other unnamed bishops.==

Conference sources told The Pillar that while Gomez’ statement might eventually be released, Pope Francis was expected first to release a statement on the Biden administration, at midday on Wednesday. Some sources said there was concern in the Vatican that a statement from Gomez seen as critical of the Biden administration might seem to force the pope’s hand in his own dealings with Biden, who will be the second Catholic president of the United States, and the first in 60 years.

(CNN)South African President Cyril Ramaphosa announced Thursday that Minister in the Presidency Jackson Mthembu has died of Covid-19.

Mthembu was one of the government's key leaders in its response to the pandemic and the public face during many Covid-19 press briefings.

"It is with deep sorrow and shock that we announce that Minister in the Presidency Jackson Mthembu passed away earlier today from COVID-related complications. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time of loss," President Ramaphosa tweeted.

"Minister Mthembu was an exemplary leader, an activist and life-long champion of freedom and democracy. He was a much-loved and greatly respected colleague and comrade, whose passing leaves our nation at a loss," Ramaphosa added. On January 11 Mthembu tweeted that he had contracted Covid-19.

In addition to extending the existing measures, Ramaphosa announced that 20 land borders will be closed until February 15.

Mthembu was an anti-apartheid activist who first became involved in politics in the 1970s.

He was harassed and intimidated by apartheid police and during the Bethal terrorism trial was charged with sabotage, treason and terrorism, but was acquitted, according to South African presidency website.

Under President Nelson Mandela, he was the ANC party spokesperson from 1995-1997 and again from 2009-2014.

EFFERSON CITY, Mo. (Jan. 20, 2021) – On Tuesday, a Missouri Senate committee held a hearing on a bill that would take on federal gun control; past, present and future. Passage into law would represent a major step toward ending federal acts that infringe on the right to keep and bear arms within the state.

Sen. Eric Burlison (R-Battlefield) filed Senate Bill 39 (SB39) on Dec. 1. Titled the “Second Amendment Preservation Act,” the legislation would ban any entity or person, including any public officer or employee of the state and its political subdivisions, from enforcing any past, present or future federal “acts, laws, executive orders, administrative orders, court orders, rules, regulations, statutes, or ordinances” that infringe on the right to keep and bear arms.

On Wednesday, the Senate General Laws Committee held a hearing on the bill. Burlison testified, predicting that President-Elect Joe Biden’s administration will push for gun control. “Gun bans directly, magazine bans, attacks on private gun manufacturers, red flag laws and restrictions on individual citizens from buying firearms,” Burlison said.

Nobody testified in opposition to the bill, but according to MissouriNet, there was written testimony opposing the measure.

The chairwoman of the House Oversight and Reform Committee on Thursday asked the FBI to conduct a “robust examination” of the alleged role in the Jan. 6 Capitol siege of Parler, the now-disabled social media site that bristled with violent chatter before and after rioters stormed the Capitol in a rampage that left five people dead.

Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.), the chairwoman, said the request is a step toward opening a formal committee investigation into sites that may encourage violence, including Parler. It became prominent last year as a freewheeling alternative to Twitter, gaining popularity in particular among conservatives.

She said the committee will begin its own formal investigation of Parler and similar sites and that it was a “top priority” for her to learn answers to a range of questions about Parler, including its alleged ties to Russia, as documented in news reports. Her letter Thursday singled out Parler’s use of a Russian-owned web-services company, DDOS-Guard, that also has Russian government clients and may leave Parler vulnerable to data requests by Russian agencies.

“I am going to get to the bottom of who owns and funds social media platforms like Parler that condone and create violence,” Maloney said in an interview with The Washington Post.

The Pentagon blocked members of President Joe Biden’s incoming administration from gaining access to critical information about current operations, including the troop drawdown in Afghanistan, upcoming special operations missions in Africa and the Covid-19 vaccine distribution program, according to new details provided by transition and defense officials.

The effort to obstruct the Biden team, led by senior White House appointees at the Pentagon, is unprecedented in modern presidential transitions and will hobble the new administration on key national security matters as it takes over positions in the Defense Department on Wednesday, the officials said.

Biden openly decried the treatment his aides were receiving at the Pentagon in December, calling it “nothing short, in my view, of irresponsibility” after meetings were canceled ahead of Christmas. He said his people were denied information on the SolarWinds hack, and said his team “needs a clear picture of our force posture around the world and our operations to deter our enemies.”

But people involved with the transition, both on the Biden team and the Pentagon side, gave POLITICO a more detailed picture of what was denied, saying briefings on pressing defense matters never happened, were delayed to the last minute, or were controlled by overbearing minders from the Trump administration's side.

“Defense has traditionally been a bipartisan business between and among professionals, and this is terrible optics for those who want to copy this pettiness in the future,” said Mackenzie Eaglen, a fellow at the conservative American Enterprise Institute. The effort to block the transition from key national security information is “useless, poor form, and horrible precedent.”

This story is based on conversations with 10 Pentagon and Biden officials involved in the transition, most of whom spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive conversations.

Tensions between the Pentagon and the Biden agency landing team emerged almost the moment the General Services Administration authorized the transition to begin in late November after an initial delay following the election. While the military side of the house — the Joint Staff and the geographic combatant commanders — were more cooperative, the civilian side set up roadblocks at every turn.

“They really should not be allowed to get away with this. It’s just completely irresponsible and indefensible,” said one transition official. “To play politics with the country’s national security is just really unacceptable.”

Outgoing acting Defense Secretary Chris Miller has maintained publicly that he is committed to ensuring a smooth transfer of power, and Defense Department officials say the Pentagon has worked hard to complete the Biden team’s requests for information and interviews in challenging conditions due to the pandemic and a hyper-partisan environment.

Pentagon spokesperson Sue Gough said it is “understandable” for there to be limits on what sensitive and classified information the department can provide to the incoming team, including related to future military operations. She also defended the presence of career civilian counsel as “observers” during meetings with the Biden team, saying the lawyers’ participation ensures that the information is “properly handled.”

Transition “personnel are not government employees and thus limited to some extent on what they can receive,” Gough said. “Membership on a transition team alone is not a license to access confidential, privileged or classified government information.”

Biden's Administration Seeks to Extend New START Treaty With Russia for Five Years, Report Says

Moscow, in turn, stated earlier that it is ready to work with the new US president on both extending the last remaining nuclear arms treaty and reviving the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, which Washington left under the Trump administration.

President Joe Biden wants to extend the New START treaty with Russia, which is two weeks away from expiring, the Washington Post reported citing two anonymous US officials. The Democrat team had long been in doubts about extending the treaty but recently made up its mind to seek an extension because the accord's expiry date is rapidly approaching, the source reportedly said.

"New START is manifestly in the national security interest of the United States and makes even more sense when the relationship with Russia is adversarial", an anonymous US official told the newspaper.

At the same time, Biden is not reportedly planning to "reset" the relations with Kremlin as his former boss, President Barack Obama, did in 2009. The Washington Post sources say the new administration plans to "impose new costs" on Russia and "hold [it] accountable" over Moscow's alleged "reckless and aggressive actions" in recent years.

Earlier, Biden's nominee for the office of the Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, stated during his confirmation hearing at the Senate that extension of the New START treaty, which severely limits the two powers on the number of nuclear armaments they can deploy, is in the US national interests. He cited "tremendous access to data and inspections" as one of the key positive moments of keeping the accord alive.

The former administration of US President Donald Trump sought to negotiate a temporary extension to the treaty in 2020 for one year. The Republican and his team, however, sought to make a number of additions to the temporal extension, such as freezing all nuclear warheads production and including China into the treaty. Beijing turned down the offer. Moscow, despite being initially reluctant, agreed to the modifications of the US side. However, despite that, Washington itself backed down from the negotiations leaving the nuclear accord's fate to the incoming Biden administration, which would have little over two weeks to negotiate the extension.

Biden Administration Pauses Federal Permitting for Oil, Gas

The Biden Department of Interior has paused oil and gas leasing and permitting on federal lands for 60 days as part of an effort to review the program’s policy ramifications, according to an agency memo obtained by Reuters.

The move comes after a newly-sworn-in Biden signed executive orders aimed at combating climate change, including placing the U.S. back into the Paris accord and pausing oil leasing in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Additionally, Biden has canceled the highly lucrative Keystone XL pipeline and ordered agencies to review over 100 other environment directives by the Trump administration.

The 1,700-mile (2,735-kilometer) pipeline was planned to carry roughly 800,000 barrels of oil a day from Alberta to the Texas Gulf Coast, passing through Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas and Oklahoma.

“The Permit is hereby revoked,” Biden’s executive order says. “Leaving the Keystone XL pipeline permit in place would not be consistent with my Administration’s economic and climate imperatives.”

Keystone XL President Richard Prior said over 1,000 jobs, the majority unionized, will be eliminated in the coming weeks. “We will begin a safe and orderly shut-down of construction,” he said.

CASPER, Wyo. - The U.S. government has approved routes for a system of pipelines that would move carbon dioxide across Wyoming in what could be by far the largest such network in North America, if it is developed.

The greenhouse gas would be captured from coal-fired power plants, keeping it out of the atmosphere where it causes global warming. The captured gas would instead be pumped underground to add pressure to and boost production from oil fields.

In all, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management designated 1,100 miles (1,770 kilometres) of federal land for pipeline development through the Wyoming Pipeline Corridor Initiative, the Casper Star-Tribune reported.

Interior Secretary David Bernhardt signed the plans last Friday, days before leaving office with the rest of President Donald Trump’s administration. The approval allows companies to begin submitting pipeline construction proposals.

Wyoming officials including Republican Gov. Mark Gordon have promoted carbon capture as a way to boost the state’s struggling coal mining industry.

Utilities nationwide have been turning away from coal-fired electricity in favour of cheaper and cleaner natural gas and renewable energy.

Environmental groups including the Western Watersheds Project have criticized the pipeline corridor plan, saying the pipelines would cross habitat of sage grouse — brown, chicken-sized birds that spend most of their time on the ground.

Man Convicted of Multiple Obscenity Crimes Involving Children

A Texas man was convicted by a federal jury today for operating a website dedicated to publishing writings that detailed the sexual abuse of children.

Nicholas L. McQuaid, Acting Assistant Attorney General of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division; Gregg Sofer, U.S. Attorney of the Western District of Texas; and Luis M. Quesada, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s El Paso Field Office made the announcement.

After a three-day trial, Thomas Alan Arthur, 64, of Terlingua, was convicted of three counts of trafficking in obscene visual representations of the sexual abuse of a child, five counts of trafficking in obscene text stories about the sexual abuse of children, and one count of engaging in the business of selling obscene matters involving the sexual abuse of children.

According to trial evidence, Arthur began operating the Mr. Double website in 1996, and began charging members for access to the site in 1998. The website was dedicated to publishing writings that detail the sexual abuse of children, including the rape, torture, and murder of infants and toddlers. The evidence at trial showed that all submissions for publication were reviewed and approved by Arthur before he posted them on the site. Some of the author pages contained drawings depicting children engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Evidence at trial showed that the website was Arthur’s sole source of income for more than 20 years. The site was taken offline in November 2019 when the FBI executed a search warrant at his residence near Terlingua, where Arthur administered the site. Pursuant to our Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty with the Netherlands, additional evidence was obtained from the server in the Netherlands where the site was hosted.

Sentencing is scheduled for April 19, 2021.

Man charged over alleged online grooming of teenage girl

A man has been charged over the alleged online grooming of a teenage girl in Sydney after his arrest yesterday.

Following extensive investigations, police arrested the 41-year-old man at a home at Ermington in the city's north west.

Officers will allege in court that the man believed he was speaking with a 14-year-old girl and engaged in sexually explicit conversations about acts he wished to perform on the child.

Police also seized six electronic storage devices and two mobile phones, which will undergo further examination.

The man was taken to Granville Police Station and charged with use carriage service to groom under 16 years for sex.

The man's arrest came after detectives from Strike Force Trawler began engaging online with a man last December.

Strike Force Trawler is investigation into the online sexual abuse and exploitation of children.

The man was refused bail by Parramatta Local Court and will next appear before court in March.

Schweizer said on Fox News Channel’s “The Next Revolution” that McConnell’s “position on China has softened over the years,” which he argued is due to the growing relationship between the Chinese government and the Chao’s company.

According to Schweizer, this is the “strategy” of the Chinese government across the globe.

“They seek out political elites and give them commercial deals,” Schweizer stated.

“They are wedded to the Chinese,” he added. “They don’t want to anger the Chinese because they could destroy their families financially.”

Instead of the videos being removed, Twitter did nothing, even reporting back to the family that the video in question did not in fact violate any of their policies. This lack of care and proper attention resulted in the video of this young boy's abuse accumulating over 167,000 views and thousands of shares before direct involvement from a law enforcement officer caused Twitter to remove the child sexual abuse material. Our lawsuit is against Twitter for its involvement in and profiting from this child’s sexual exploitation, which violates the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act and various other protections afforded by law. We have reliable information and evidence that Twitter consistently has over 100,000 child pornography images on its platform at any given time while pretending to guard against it.
