Federal court sanctions pro-Trump lawyers Sidney Powell & Lin Wood over ‘bad faith’ 2020 election fraud suit

A US federal judge has sanctioned Sidney Powell, Lin Wood and several other attorneys who alleged fraud in the 2020 presidential race – echoing claims of then-President Donald Trump – saying their case was brought in “bad faith.”

US District Court Judge Linda Parker granted the sanctions request on Wednesday against nine pro-Trump lawyers, Powell and Wood among them, who spearheaded lawsuits claiming election fraud last year. Parker said the lawyers’ conduct “calls into question their fitness to practice law” and even “warrants a referral for investigation and possible suspension or disbarment.”

“Individuals may have a right (within certain bounds) to disseminate allegations of fraud unsupported by law or fact in the public sphere. But attorneys cannot exploit their privilege and access to the judicial process to do the same,” the judge said, adding that “when an attorney has done so, sanctions are in order.”

Despite the haze of confusion, commotion, and chaos counsel intentionally attempted to create by filing this lawsuit, one thing is perfectly clear: Plaintiffs’ attorneys have scorned their oath, flouted the rules, and attempted to undermine the integrity of the judiciary along the way.

Filed in Michigan after the 2020 presidential vote, the election fraud suit in question was ultimately dismissed by the same judge last December, with Parker ruling that Powell’s evidence amounted to a mere “amalgamation of theories, conjecture, and speculation” and did not warrant further hearing.

The judge argued on Wednesday that the case “should never have been filed,” and that the government “should never have had to defend it,” saying the lawyers would likely continue to “abuse the judicial system to publicize their narrative” unless they faced consequences.

In granting the sanctions at the request of local officials, Parker ordered the nine attorneys to pay the legal fees incurred by the state of Michigan and the city of Detroit throughout the suit, also requiring that they submit records on all lawyers who worked on the case, and in what capacity.

Moreover, within six months of Wednesday’s ruling, the sanctioned attorneys must also “each complete at least 12 hours of continuing legal education in the subjects of pleading standards… and election law,” which must be offered by a “non-partisan organization” and paid at their own expense. They will then be made to file an affidavit to the court “describing the content and length of the courses attended to satisfy this requirement.”

Though Powell’s case was shot down, Parker acknowledged that the court had not actually decided on the question of fraud in the 2020 race, saying “resolution of that issue was never appropriately before the Court” due to procedural issues that got the suit tossed.

Powell, as well as other Trump backers – such as his former attorney Rudy Giuliani and MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell – have also been sued by voting machine firms Smartmatic and Dominion Voting Systems, which provided election tech in many states for the 2020 race. The companies say they were defamed by the election fraud claims, which pointed to potential problems with their voting machines. Those allegations were never substantiated.

Trump and a sizable group of his supporters have repeatedly charged massive fraud in the 2020 election, claiming Joe Biden effectively stole the presidency. Despite a flurry of similar lawsuits across several states, however, no compelling evidence of fraud was ever put forward, even after some resulted in ballot recounts in contested areas. The results of yet another audit of results in Arizona were set to be published this week, but were delayed after members of the audit team fell ill with Covid-19....

Capitol Police Officer Who Killed Ashli Babbitt Speaks Out; Claims He Showed ‘Utmost Courage’

The Capitol Police officer who shot and killed unarmed Jan. 6. protester Ashli Babbitt, Lt. Michael Byrd, told NBC News in an exclusive interview Thursday evening he showed “utmost courage” and did his job to protect House lawmakers.

“I showed the utmost courage on January 6, and it’s time for me to do that now,” Byrd, a 28-year veteran of the force, told anchor Lester Holt.

“I know that day I saved countless lives,” he said, referring to some 60 to 80 members of Congress who were supposedly still in or around the chamber when a group of protesters broke glass on a door leading to an anteroom near the House chamber and tried to get inside.

"I know members of Congress, as well as my fellow officers and staff, were in jeopardy and in serious danger. And that’s my job,” Byrd continued.

He said he did not know Babbitt was unarmed at the time, adding he didn’t learn that until hours later.

“I was taking a tactical stance. You’re ultimately hoping that your commands will be complied with, and ultimately they were not,” he said.

Babbitt’s family attorney has said that Byrd never warned Ashli before firing, though Byrd says he yelled several times for her to stay back and shot her only “as a last resort.”

"You’re taught to aim for center mass the subject was sideways, and I could not see the full motion of her hands or anything so I guess her movement caused the discharge to fall where it did,” he told Holt.

“‘I tried to wait as long as I could. I hoped and prayed no one tried to enter through those doors,” said Byrd.

"But their failure to comply required me to take the appropriate action to save the lives of members of Congress and myself and my fellow officers,” he said.

Asked by Holt about former President Donald Trump’s characterization of the shooting as a “murder,” Byrd demurred.

“It’s disheartening, if he was in the room or anywhere and I was responsible for him, I was prepared to do the same for him,” he said.

Babbitt was the only person killed that day.

Holt asked Byrd why no other officers opened fire on Babbitt or anyone else trying to get through the doors.

“I’m sure it was a terrifying situation. And I can only control my reaction, my training, my expertise. That would be upon them to speak for themselves,” he said.

Holt also asked Byrd about a report that he left his service weapon in a Capitol bathroom.

"It was a terrible mistake, I acknowledged it, I owned up to it, I accepted the responsibility, I was penalized for it, and I moved on,” he said.

An investigation by Capitol Police concluded this week that Byrd was not at fault for the shooting and cleared him of any further disciplinary action.

But his identity had remained under wraps officially until his interview with Holt, with Capitol Police refusing to release his name out of fear for his safety.

That didn’t stop speculation that it may have been him, however.

“Who was the person who shot an innocent, wonderful, incredible woman?” Trump asked in June.

Some media outlets reportedly knew Byrd’s identity for months but refused to report it.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott Reissues Vaccine Mandate Ban

Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) on Wednesday reissued a ban on COVID vaccine mandates by any state or local government agency.

Abbott had also recently announced his own case of COVID, but described his symptoms as a “brief and mild infection,” and speculated that receiving the vaccine helped to lessen his symptoms.

The ban includes exceptions for nursing homes and other long-term care facilities.

Mask Mandates Here But Not There

On top of the executive order, Abbott has asked the state legislature – which is currently in special session – to consider the question of local governments instituting vaccine mandates.

Vaccine mandates aren’t the only thing Abbott is fighting.

Earlier this month, Abbott stated that any local entities that defied his order banning mask mandates would be taken to court:

“Any school district, public university, or local government official that decides to defy GA-38—which prohibits gov’t entities from mandating masks—will be taken to court. The path forward relies on personal responsibility—not government mandates.” ...

Fight or flight?

I've been fighting this whole time. Recently lost a battle, need a job, wearing a mask, the shame. Still can't shut up about it, probably going to get fired at some point.

I see most everyone giving in to the bullshit, most seem to eat it willingly.

When, if they fuck with my son, all bets are off. Will do whatever needs to be done. Knowing it is a battle one man and his son cannot win against the machine, I am pre-packed with tools and supplies sufficient for flight mode in the dead of winter for survival in the mountains.

I have lost the tiny shred of faith I had in humanity directly because of how easily led everyone is in regards to the fake pandemic.

I used to think everyone was smarter than me and that I was crazy for seeing the world in such a bad light. I have been proven wrong.

I hope there are patriots and they have God given power over the rulers and authorities of this sick world. Not betting on it.

Silverstein did a 99 yr lease (wtf?) and put in $14 million for 1, 2, 4, 5 WTC buildings. The estimated worth was $3.55 BILLION. He put in just $14million worth. Although he tried to get double the settlement of $7.1Billion, he was awarded $4.55 billion for the lease (to which he has to rebuild).. not bad profit.. $14 million get a Billion..
