Big Tech Writes Its Ticket to the White House

Silicon Valley's allies are filling up the Biden administration. A big payoff is sure to follow.

Silicon Valley played an integral role in propelling Joe Biden to the White House. He raked in uncounted millions from liberal tech billionaires such as Netflix's Reed Hastings, LinkedIn's Reid Hoffman, and Apple heiress Laurene Powell Jobs; their employees shelled out $5 million more.

As Biden takes office, the techies want what they paid for. Reuters reports that executives at top firms like Amazon, Google, Facebook, and Microsoft are gunning for jobs at the Departments of Defense, State, Justice, and Commerce and also eyeing influential posts at the Federal Trade Commission and beyond.

They want two things: lucrative federal contracts and less scrutiny than they’ve gotten over the past four years, as President Donald Trump has made their bias against conservatives front-page news. The Department of Justice's antitrust inquiry into big tech has already garnered bipartisan backing, including from a group of state attorneys general who have filed their own suit.

A Biden administration could make all of that go away. And it could ignore altogether these firms' obsequious dealings with Communist China.

That explains the rush to fill seats: It’s unlikely that the techies moving into the Biden administration will check their business relationships at the door. Each hire is another pressure point for Silicon Valley’s most powerful to exploit.

This is hardly a problem unique to Democrats, you just hear about it less when they’re in the White House. This sort of revolving door was considered outrageous in the George W. Bush administration, when Democrats and the media harped relentlessly on Dick Cheney’s ties to Halliburton and charged that he was in the pocket of Big Oil. They raised the same ruckus when Trump appointed Exxon chief Rex Tillerson as his first secretary of state.

These unseemly connections aren’t new for Democrats. Google employees averaged a meeting a week with that Obama White House, influencing a president who "routinely pushed policy that pleased the tech-savvy."

Pro-Trump suit demands governors open legislatures to vote on electors

A new suit from the pro-Trump Amistad Project has filed suit in Washington to require five governors open their legislatures to vote on presidential electors, another long-shot play to potentially overturn Joe Biden’s victory. The suit, filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in the District, demands that legislatures in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin be allowed to certify electors prior to congressional certification in January. Governors in those states urged legislatures to shut down due in part to COVID-19 concerns, and legislative leaders agreed. Legislatures in states such as Pennsylvania closed before this month’s planned vote to certify electors, dashing the Trump Team’s hope of having lawmakers in GOP-controlled bodies pick those voting in the Electoral College, which eventually chose Biden.

Amistad said that state legislatures have the constitutional duty to approve the electors and should reopen to do so instead of letting the presidential election results stand. “Kings and queens dissolve parliaments and legislative bodies, not governors. At least that was the case until this year. Governors in these contested states have declared themselves to be the law due to COVID and are now actively preventing the state legislatures from exercising their constitutional authority to review the election process," said Phill Kline, director of the Amistad Project. The suit, which describes problems with elections in those states, would block approving electoral votes from Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin until their legislatures meet in a joint session to vote to certify their electors. “Governors do not have a right to certify election results through fiat,”' said Kline, who had previously argued against a federal law that essentially set Dec. 14 as the date electors had to be chosen.

An armed group of protesters carrying Antifa and Black Lives Matter gear denied supporting President-Elect Joe Biden. Instead, the Lansing, Michigan, protesters said they support Karl Marx.

Arizona Judge Says State Legislature Has Power To Enforce Maricopa Election Subpoenas

State senators in Arizona are ramping up their challenge against election fraud in the state. Chairwoman Kelli Ward (R-Ariz.) gave an update on state legislators’ efforts to promote election integrity. Ward also challenged the county’s decision against complying with election related subpoenas. According to Ward, the judge overseeing the lawsuit claimed the legislators could enforce the subpoenas without the help of the court. “He said he doesn’t know what the court can do because the legislature has the same power as the court to enforce a subpoena,” she stated. On Tuesday, state Senate Republicans filed a lawsuit against election officials in Maricopa County. They requested full compliance with their subpoenas that demand the release of copies of all counted mail-in ballots. This effort has been led by state Senate President Karen Fann (R-Mo.) and state Senator Eddie Farnsworth (R-Ariz.).

The lawsuit also demanded that state lawmakers be allowed to conduct their own audit of this year’s elections, including one into Dominion Voting Systems. If they obtain these election materials and find evidence of errors or fraud during the audit, it could give Arizona lawmakers the ability to hand their state’s electoral votes to President Trump. However, state legislators are coming down to the wire. They would have to complete the audit and decide what to do with their findings before January 6, which is when the U.S. Congress is set to review the electoral college vote. Election officials claim they are not able to provide access to voting equipment due to ongoing litigation.

A woman in New Hampshire has been arrested on federal charges after communicating a series of threats to Monica Palmer, chair of the Wayne County Board of Canvassers, because Palmer had refused to certify the election for Biden in the wake of numerous accusations and proof of voter fraud. Threats included pictures of naked, mutilated bodies and pictures of Palmer’s own daughter.

The suspect, Katelyn Jones, apparently lives in Michigan, but was on vacation in Epping, NH when she was brought into custody. Her mugshot does not appear to be publicly available.

ATF Reverses Course, Withdraws Guidance on AR Pistol Reclassification

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) withdrew the guidance on its proposed AR pistol reclassification Wednesday.

This is a stark reversal of the ATF’s steady push toward changing rules and placing some AR pistols with stabilizer braces under the purview of the National Firearms Act (NFA) and/or Gun Control Act (GCA).

On November 18, 2020, Breitbart News reported that the ATF was working with President-Elect Joe Biden to go after AR pistols with stabilizer braces. This pursuit resulted in the ATF being posed to reevaluate and reclassify a number of AR pistols with stabilizer braces, placing them under the same registration and taxation rules as suppressors, machine guns, short-barreled shotguns, and short-barreled rifles.

On December 22, 2020, Breitbart News informed readers that the ATF had posted guidance for AR pistol reclassification to the Federal Register. On that same day, Rep. Richard Hudson (R-NC) and 89 other U.S. Reps. sent a letter to the ATF demanding they reverse course and correct the “injustice” of reclassifying AR pistols.

President Trump on Wednesday evening asserted his authority and announced 26 new Christmas pardons including ones to Paul Manafort and Roger Stone.

Trump’s 2016 campaign manager Paul Manafort was hunted down by Mueller’s goons after he helped President Trump win the 2016 election.

Manafort was sentenced to 7 years in prison for tax evasion and other crimes stemming from his Ukrainian lobbying.

Andrew Weissmann, the real prosecutor in charge of Mueller’s witch hunt lashed out at President Trump on Wednesday night following his pardon of Manafort and Stone.

Weissmann took the pardons personally since he’s the one who hunted down people in Trump’s orbit and persecuted them.

Weissmann cooked up a new plot to prosecute both Manafort and Stone.

“Easy enough to beat Trump at his game: put Stone and Manafort in the grand jury after 1/20/21 to get at what they have hidden from the government about Trump- and if they then lie, they can be prosecuted for perjury and obstruction,” Weissmann said in a tweet Wednesday night.

When people suggested that Paul Manafort and Roger Stone could just invoke their 5th Amendment rights, he said it’s a non issue.

“The fifth amendment issue is a non issue. Yes, those pardoned may still have a colorable fifth amendment claim but, even if they do, the government can immunize them and require them to testify in the grand jury. If they then lie they face criminal prosecution,” Weissmann said.

President Donald Trump late Wednesday floated the idea of a “Special Counsel” to investigate election fraud allegations.

“After seeing the massive Voter Fraud in the 2020 Presidential Election, I disagree with anyone that thinks a strong, fast, and fair Special Counsel is not needed, IMMEDIATELY,” the president wrote on Twitter. “This was the most corrupt election in the history of our Country, and it must be closely examined!”

This is the first time Trump has on Twitter personally suggested the idea of a Special Counsel to investigate allegations of election fraud. It comes the same day as Attorney General William Barr’s last day at the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Aside from an occasional swipe at Trump, I have noticed a sharp decline in supportive Biden/Kamala posts coming from my usual liberal/progressive friends on Facebook. Jon Fleischman, publisher of the influential Flash Report and a former state GOP vice chair, is among a crowd of conservative Californians who excoriated the decision on Wednesday.

"If the President is going to pardon lawbreakers like Duncan Hunter he may as well pardon the Tiger King. If the bar is that low,'' Fleischman said on Twitter.

Trump granted a full pardon Tuesday to Hunter, who was set to begin an 11-month sentence at a federal prison in two weeks after pleading guilty to stealing campaign funds for personal use.

Federal prosecutors indicted Hunter and his wife Margaret in 2018 for lavish spending of campaign donations on “items as inconsequential as fast food, movie tickets and sneakers; as trivial as video games, Lego sets and Play-doh; as mundane as groceries, dog food and utilities; and as self-indulgent as luxury hotels, overseas vacations, and plane tickets for themselves, their family members, and their pet rabbits Eggburt and Cadbury."

High level officials within the Justice Department are in "onging discussions" on whether to appoint a special counsel to take over the investigation into Hunter Biden, with some believing it is "warranted," two sources familiar told Fox News Wednesday.

Attorney General Bill Barr, who resigned from his post last week and had his last day at the Justice Department Wednesday, said earlier this week that he had "not seen a reason" to appoint a special counsel to probe President-elect Joe Biden’s son, who is under federal investigation for his "tax affairs."

But one source familiar told Fox News on Wednesday that it is an "open discussion."

"It is an ongoing discussion," the source told Fox News. "No decisions have been made either way."

Another source told Fox News that some high level DOJ officials believe a special counsel is "warranted," and cited the special counsel statute.

Trump has called Dominion Voting Systems "a disaster," and his supporters have pushed the conspiracy theory that the company deleted votes for Trump on its voting equipment and that Dominion's director of product strategy and security, Eric Coomer, helped subvert the election.

There is no evidence that the 2020 election was stolen from Trump, and his administration and election officials have called it the "most secure" election in US history. President-elect Joe Biden won the popular vote by more than 7 million votes and the electoral map 306 to 232.

The lawsuit names as defendants the Trump campaign, Rudy Giuliani, Trump adviser Sidney Powell, conservative media outlets One America News Network and Newsmax Media, the right-wing website Gateway Pundit, and Colorado businessman and activist Joseph Oltmann, among others. CNN has reached out to those named in the lawsuit.

FBI accuses Iran of threatening US election officials

(CNN)Iranian cyber actors were behind online death threats targeting US election officials, the FBI announced on Wednesday.

Officials said individuals associated with the Iranian regime operated multiple websites following the election, including one titled "enemiesofthepeople," which contained personal information and photos of government and private sector officials involved in managing the 2020 US election.

Among those targeted online were Christopher Krebs, the former head of the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency, a person familiar with the FBI's investigation told CNN.

Krebs made news in the aftermath of the 2020 election by publicly refuting false claims by President Donald Trump and other Republican officials that there was mass voter fraud associated with the election. After fact checking conspiracy theories being pushed by Trump, Krebs was fired from his position at the Department of Homeland Security.

The online targeting of Krebs by Iranian cyber actors was first reported by The Washington Post, which also identified FBI Director Christopher Wray as one of the US government officials targeted online.

An FBI spokesperson declined to comment on the identities of US election officials threatened by Iran.

Here is the answer: Law enforcement corruption. The question? Why are we continuing to fight and lose the "War on Drugs," proclaimed by President Nixon, almost fifty years ago, in June 1971?

Think about the U.S. forces arrayed against Mexican drug cartels: DEA, FBI, Homeland Security, state police forces, county sheriffs, municipal police forces, even the postal service. We have established High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area task forces with their own regional fusion centers.

The United States is incapable of defeating Mexican cartels? We can transport armored and special operations forces halfway around the world to the Middle East and Southwest Asia, and defeat both conventional and irregular military forces – but we cannot secure our southern border and stop the poisoning of our own population?

China has said it aims to upgrade almost 25 per cent more farmland in 2021 than it did this year, in an attempt to boost its food security while the coronavirus pandemic disrupts supply chains.

The agriculture ministry said in a statement on Thursday that 100 million mu (6.66 million hectares, 16.5 million acres) of farmland would be upgraded to a “high standard” – up a quarter from the target of 80 million mu in 2020, and roughly equal to the size of the Republic of Ireland.

Large-scale mechanical farming would be used on the upgraded farmland to increase crop yields and productivity, while the irrigation of a further 15 million mu of farmland will be upgraded to conserve water, the ministry said.

Acknowledging the task as “very challenging”, the ministry said priority should be given to grain-producing areas to make up shortfalls in China’s agricultural infrastructure and increase capacity.

A number of House Republicans now plan to challenge the results of the 2020 presidential election when Congress meets to certify the Electoral College results Jan. 6.

Rep.-elect Madison Cawthorn, R-N.C., who will be part of the House GOP membership when Congress convenes in early January, begged fellow Republicans to join him in the effort Tuesday.

Cawthorn said in a tweeted video:

"I have a message for all other Republicans across the country. If you are not on the record calling for fair, free and just elections now and in the future, I will come to your district, and I will fund a primary opponent against you."

Efforts by President Donald Trump and his allies to reverse the outcome of the election that gave President-elect Joe Biden the victory have not succeeded in the courts.

According to The Hill, the effort in the House will fail because it is not possible for supporters to secure a majority vote given Democrat's control of the lower chamber.

The effort was first launched by Rep. Mo Brooks, R-Ala. Over a dozen lawmakers led by Brooks met with Trump on Monday to discuss objecting to the certification of Biden's victory, The Hill reported.

They included Rep. Jody Hice, R-Ga., who tweeted he would lead an objection to Georgia's electors.

Rep. Brian Babin, R-Texas, said Monday he would object to the results if Congress does not investigate voter fraud by Jan. 6, and wrote a letter to Congressional leadership demanding action. Roughly 20 other Republicans signed Babin's letter.

Meanwhile, Rep. Ted Budd, R-N.C., tweeted Tuesday he also plans to object to the results, saying "#WethePeople will keep fighting for @realDonaldTrump."

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., has asked Senators not to join the efforts, and Senate Majority Whip John Thune, R-S.D., warned it would "go down like a shot dog."

If no senator joins Brooks, there will not be a debate in either chamber, The Hill noted, adding Sen.-elect Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., has suggested he would back it.

The Blackwater emergency response team (call sign Raven 23) deployed to secure the diplomat’s safe return. After the team created a checkpoint in a traffic circle in Nisur Square, a white Kia drove toward their convoy and refused to stop. Raven 23 disabled the vehicle, but came under fire, which they returned, killing several Iraqis. A team vehicle was disabled by the incoming arms fire and had to be towed back to safety. A U.S. Army Captain and West Point graduate who responded immediately to the scene interviewed Iraqi witnesses who confirmed that the vehicle had driven toward the Raven 23 convoy like a car bomb. Real-time radio logs and photographs of the disabled vehicle confirm that the team came under small arms fire during the attack. There was evidence that people were throwing Iraqi Police uniforms over embankments around the Square, suggesting that insurgents disguised themselves as police and used the embankments as cover to shoot at the convoy.

How Did Self-Defense In A War-Zone Turn Into A Prosecution?

The United States government allowed the Iraqi Police to conduct a corrupt investigation. The FBI largely outsourced the investigation to the Iraqi Police, an organization infiltrated with anti-American insurgents. According to U.S. intelligence files, which were hidden from the defense for a decade, the man who led the Iraqi investigation, Col. Faris Karim, may have collaborated with Iranian terrorist organizations. The Iraqi Police collected almost all of the physical evidence, most of which disappeared. Advertisements on Iraqi television promised compensation for persons who identified themselves to be victims of the incident. The Iraqi Police identified the witnesses and claimed victims and coordinated their stories so that they would all claim that Raven 23 shot without provocation, contrary to what untainted Iraqi witnesses told the U.S. Army Captain at the scene. FBI investigators did not visit the site until several weeks after the incident.

Left-leaning media and politicians relied on the corrupt investigation to urge prosecution. The New York Times and the Washington Post (along with other left leaning outlets) injected politics into the incident by labeling the men as mercenaries and killers and using it as an indictment of Blackwater generally. Similarly, then-candidate Barack Obama made the incident a campaign issue, creating pressure on the Department of Justice to criminally charge the men here in the United States.

How Did A U.S. Court Not Immediately Dismiss Such A Case?

Actually, it did. The federal district court in Washington, D.C., originally dismissed all charges based on constitutional rights violations by federal prosecutors. The District Court dismissed the case for what it found to be “egregious” constitutional violations, including improper use of compelled statements and the intentional withholding of exculpatory evidence and testimony from the grand jury.

How Did The Case Keep Going?

Iraq, Hillary Clinton, and then-Vice President Joe Biden pushed further prosecution. Following heavy political pressure from Hillary Clinton and the Iraqi government, prosecutors appealed the case. Succumbing to that pressure, then-Vice President Joe Biden even inserted himself into the prosecution, announcing the government’s intention to appeal, and to seek “justice” as long as it took, effectively declaring four decorated veterans guilty before the first witness ever took the stand. Biden overstepped his role and jettisoned the presumption of innocence during a press conference in Iraq. And this is how the four veterans of Raven 23 became known as the “Biden Four.”

All signs appear to point to a Brexit deal being announced imminently, with an official announcement waiting on some last-minute wrangling over the scale of Boris Johnson’s surrender to the European Union on fisheries.

Both the European Commission and the British government are briefing that they believe the deal will be sealed early on Thursday, with an appearance by Boris Johnson and European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen scheduled for last night and a press conference by Johnson at 7 a.m. on Thursday morning being pushed back as the two sides haggled “over individual fish species”, according to the BBC.

What is clear, unless reports are all wildly off-base, is that Boris Johnson appears to have given up any pretence of standing firm on the repatriation of Britain’s national fishing waters — currently controlled by the EU and exploited mainly by foreign trawlers, with disastrous effects for local fishermen — but he may be able to sell diehard supporters on the idea that the negotiations have been a success because Brussels had demanded even more than Britain will give up.

The deal which now looks set to emerge on fisheries, per the Telegraph, will result in a years-long “transition” — on top of the almost four years the EU has already had since the British people voted to Leave the European Union in 2016 — for EU fishermen, with only some very limited repatriation of British fish and fishing revenue to the United Kingdom:

Britain offered the EU a three-year transition period but demanded it return 80 per cent of its quotas for catching fish in UK waters. The EU countered by demanding unfettered access to UK waters for 14 years in return for giving back just 15 per cent of its quotas.

During months of talks, Brussels came down to 10 years, then eight, leaving the sides haggling over the five-year gap between them, as well as the division of the catch between Britain and the EU in the years before the UK takes back full control of its waters.

Mr Johnson agreed that the EU would only repatriate 25 per cent of the value of fish caught in its waters during a five and a half year transition period, sources in Brussels said. The UK had originally demanded a three-year period with 80 per cent of the value, while the EU wanted a ten-year period with just 15-18 per cent. However, the EU stuck firm at 25 per cent, when the UK asked for 35 per cent.

This so-called compromise would follow what has become a familiar pattern for Brexit watchers, with the European Union making outlandish demands and the British government negotiating them down to slightly less outlandish demands and hailing this as victory — with the most obvious example being the €40 billion+ “divorce” bill Britain agreed to hand over, despite having put far more into the EU budget than it has taken out over the years, after Brussels had initially demanded nearer €100 bilion.

Johnson also appears to have agreed to something like the “level playing field” the EU had been demanding — allowing the EU to hit the UK with tariffs if it diverges from the bloc’s onerous regulations in a way that makes it more competitive — by accepting in principle a so-called “rebalancing mechanism”, although this process will be overseen by a supposedly impartial arbitration panel rather than EU judges.

Lawmakers on Christmas Eve blocked each other’s competing bills that attempted to rectify President Trump’s objections to a massive spending and coronavirus aid package. Trump has warned he will not sign legislation that bundles $900 billion in coronavirus aid with the $1.4 trillion 2021 government spending bill. Trump wants lawmakers to make changes to the massive spending package to remove “wasteful” spending and to increase the virus aid stimulus checks from $600 to $2,000 for individuals. Each party attempted quick passage of separate measures that addressed parts of Trump’s criticism of the colossal bill, but since neither passed, lawmakers will have to deal with the impasse on Monday, when the House returns for a rare post-Christmas session. A temporary government funding bill runs out on Monday. The House planned to return that day to vote on a resolution to override Trump’s veto of the 2021 National Defense Authorization Act, which was delivered to the House Thursday. Now, they'll be forced to come up with a way to keep the government funded if Trump refuses to sign the measure. "We're not going to let the government shut down," Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, a Maryland Democrat, said. "We are considering our options and what steps we will take. There are continuing discussions between the speaker and the secretary of the Treasury and the administration." House Republicans refused to provide consent for a bill offered by Democrats that would amend the legislation to add the $2,000 checks.

"Believe it or not, Democrats agree with the president," Hoyer said. Fast-Moving Wildfire Threatens Major Marine Corps Base Near San Diego

A major Marine Corps base in southern California is under emergency evacuation orders as a wildfire has grown out of control and is now encroaching on the area.

Marine base Camp Pendleton, which is home to the 1st Marine Division, Marine Expeditionary Force, infantry training schools and many other key units, is under threat by the Creek Fire.

The fast-moving brush fire resulted in the overnight emergency evacuation of about 7,000 residents. The fire is said to be burning entirely on Camp Pendleton, which given its vast mountainous training areas includes a lot of brush areas.

The fire has scorched some 3,000 acres of the base's about 125,000 total acres. The base lies along the coastline in northwestern San Diego County.

The fire is said to be at least 35% contained as of Thursday morning.

The US Court system has been taken over by the corrupt left. It’s time for the Justices on the Court to rule based on righteousness. The 2020 election was stolen. Joe Biden received 20 million fraudulent votes and biased judges and Obama judges are the only ones to see cases and they then ridicule and discount the massive fraud.

We’ve already discussed Justice Roberts. Many people believe the Chief Justice is compromised. His rulings make no sense. He is either crazy or he is being blackmailed.

The courts to date have thrown out the President’s cases in regards to the unspeakable fraud committed during the 2020 Presidential election. Obama judges have been allowed to ridicule the President and the record setting number of Americans who voted for him and then throw out the cases based on their grotesque biases.

Our courts have been compromised by biased judges who somehow are given the key cases involved in the 2020 election.

Over the past weekend the President filed a case with the Supreme Court and asked for it to be expedited due to the fact that it involves the 2020 election and the future of this country. If Joe Biden, who stole the election from record-setter President Trump is allowed to win the election, the country will never recover. How can President Trump’s record setting election that destroyed the previous all time high by nearly 10% be stolen?

The Supreme Court yesterday acknowledged the filings were received.

Pennsylvania changes the law and then stole the election for senile Joe Biden. No one wants a China loving Joe Biden other than a minority of Democrats, elites and China.

1000s Of Trucks Still Stranded In UK As French COVID-Testing Rules Spark "Chaos"

France announced the reopening of its borders with the UK late on Tuesday, ending a two-day closure prompted by fears of a fast-spreading coronavirus mutation in England.

As a result of the border shut down, thousands of truck drivers remain stranded in the UK, while France's new public health measures require drivers to be tested before entering the country.

France and Britain agreed on a rapid PCR (polymerase chain reaction) COVID-19 test that takes about 30 minutes, but that doesn't necessarily mean the thousands of stranded truck drivers waiting to cross the channel will be resolved in a day's time.

Despite the reopening of the borders, FT notes the backlog of trucks on Wednesday was in the thousands.

The situation was chaotic at the Port of Dover entrance, which was blocked throughout much of Wednesday by lorry drivers unable to board ferries because they did not have the tests demanded by the French government.

The UK government set up the main testing operation 20 miles away from Dover at Kent's Manston airport, a disused facility where most of the stranded lorries were being held. -FT

Drivers parked their trucks at Manston International Airport this week as they waited for coronavirus testing.

While BBC News said 3,000 trucks were in holding areas, the Department for Transport said the figure could be upwards of 5,000 trucks waiting to cross the English Channel.

According to the Road Haulage Association, the estimate could be as high as 10,000.

Manston Airport, which is becoming a lorry park for Dover, is where Brexit and UKIP began. The party took control of Thanet council in 2015 - a major foothold - after the airport was shut.

The transport department told the haulage industry that it has the capacity at the moment to test 300 drivers per hour, and the backlog could be cleared up in the coming days.

Testing of the drivers is so massive that the UK government called in the military.

"This is a mammoth task and clearing the backlog will take time and patience," said transport secretary Grant Shapps.

Even as the Channel Tunnel between the UK and France reopened early Wednesday morning, automobiles started flowing through, but it wasn't until the afternoon when truck volumes started to increase.

"It's only late this afternoon that volumes have picked up significantly," Getlink, the company that operates the Channel Tunnel, said.

Getlink expects freight volume through the tunnel will rise as trains will operate through the holiday session to reduce the backlog.

The chaotic situation at the Channel Tunnel has not been limited to just the UK side.

Weeks ago, we reported backlogs and other delays formed in France as companies rushed goods into the UK before Britain leaves the European Union Customs Union on Jan. 1.

Supply chains in some of Europe's largest economies are a complete mess at the moment, aiding in the view that a robust economic recovery is nowhere to be found.

Maybe you have some sense that something fishy is going on? Same. If it’s not one thing, it’s another.

Coronavirus lived on surfaces until it didn’t.

Masks didn’t work until they did, then they did not.

There is asymptomatic transmission, except there isn’t.

All these people are sick without symptoms until, whoops, PCR tests are wildly inaccurate because they were never intended to be diagnostic tools.

Everyone is in danger of the virus except they aren’t.

It spreads in schools except it doesn’t.

On it goes. Daily. It’s no wonder that so many people have stopped believing anything that “public health authorities” say. In combination with governors and other autocrats doing their bidding, they set out to take away freedom and human rights and expected us to thank them for saving our lives. At some point this year (for me it was March 12) life began feeling like a dystopian novel of your choice.

Well, now I have another piece of evidence to add to the mile-high pile of fishy mess. The World Health Organization, for reasons unknown, has suddenly changed its definition of a core conception of immunology: herd immunity. Its discovery was one of the major achievements of 20th century science, gradually emerging in the 1920s and then becoming ever more refined throughout the 20th century.

Herd immunity is a fascinating observation that you can trace to biological reality or statistical probability theory, whichever you prefer. (It is certainly not a “strategy” so ignore any media source that describes it that way.) Herd immunity speaks directly, and with explanatory power, to the empirical observation that respiratory viruses are either widespread and mostly mild (common cold) or very severe and short-lived (Ebola).

Why is this? The reason is that when a virus kills its host, it cannot migrate. The more aggressively it does this, the less it spreads. If the virus doesn’t kill its host, it can hop to others through all the usual means. When you get a virus and fight it off, your immune system encodes that information in a way that builds immunity to it. When it happens to enough people (and each case is different so we can’t put a clear number on it) the virus loses its pandemic quality and becomes endemic, which is to say predictable and manageable. Each new generation incorporates that information through more exposure.

This is what one would call Virology/Immunology 101. It’s what you read in every textbook. It’s been taught in 9th grade cell biology for probably 80 years. Observing the operations of this evolutionary phenomenon is pretty wonderful because it increases one’s respect for the way in which human biology has adapted to the presence of pathogens without absolutely freaking out.

Brexit Deal Signed: EU Boasts of a ‘Good Deal’ In Their Interest

The Brexit negotiations between the United Kingdom and the European Union concluded on Thursday, Christmas Eve, with the EU’s Ursula von der Leyen calling a press conference and boasting the EU got a “good deal” out of the years of negotiations.

Speaking from Downing Street on Christmas Eve, Prime Minister Johnson announced the agreement of what he terms a “comprehensive, Canada-style free-trade deal” — an agreement that Mr Johnson has been seeking since the beginning of negotiations, which the European Union had said was impossible to strike.

“I’m very pleased to tell you that we have completed the biggest trade deal yet, worth £660 billion a year,” he said, continuing that the deal would protect British jobs by allowing “UK goods to be sold without tariffs and without quotas in the EU market, which will if anything allow our companies to do even more business with our European friends.”

Mr Johnson implied that the deal, which he said was 500 pages long — not 2,000 as previously claimed — and which as yet must be passed in the House of Commons, fulfils completely the June 23rd, 2016 vote to leave the European Union.

He said: “And yet, what it achieves is something that the people of this country instinctively knew was doable but which they were told was impossible: we’ve taken back control of our laws and our destiny, we’ve taken back control of every jot and tittle of our regulation in a way that is complete and unfettered.”

Johnson continued that “from January 1st, we are outside the Customs Union and outside the Single Market,” pledging that “British laws will be made solely by the British parliament, interpreted by UK judges sitting in UK courts, and the jurisdiction of the European Court of Justice will come to an end.”

“We will be able to set our own standards,” the prime minister added. “We will be able to decide how and where we will stimulate new jobs and new hope with freeports, new green industrial zones.”

Much of the obstruction on the agreement of a new deal with the bloc hinged on the EU’s demands for continued, permanent access to Britain’s lucrative fishing waters. Mr Johnson said that the UK will regain full control of her waters, after some five-a-half-years of what appears to be another transition period for European fishermen.

Mexican Border State Police Officer Caught Leading Gulf Cartel Cell

Last week in General Bravo, Nuevo Leon, state police officers arrested one of their own during an operation targeting cartel cells, U.S. law enforcement sources operating in Mexico revealed to Breitbart Texas. Authorities were carrying out sweeps in response to a series of high-profile shootouts involving armored vehicles. The gunfights are part of an turf war where the Cartel Del Noreste (CDN) faction of Los Zetas is trying to take territories previously held by the Gulf Cartel.

During one of the sweeps, Nuevo Leon’s Fuerza Civil arrested German Cordero Romo, who identified himself as a high ranking law enforcement official and tried to intimidate the arresting officers by claiming connections with even higher officials. Breitbart Texas confirmed that Cordero Romo is no longer employed with Fuerza Civil, however, it remains unclear when his relationship with the agency ended.

At the time of the arrest, authorities also caught Jose Manuel “El Meny” Vaca Leyva and Ivan Collazo Vaquera who were carrying radios, drugs, and weapons. The group was apparently checking on their lookouts and cells spread out through the northern region of Nuevo Leon.

Following the arrest, the gunmen confirmed information previously published by Breitbart Texas about the Gulf Cartel working to recruit local and state police officers from Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas. The gunmen also revealed that the criminal organization switched tactics to keep a lower profile.

Instead of using large 4-door SUVs and luxury vehicles during the day, the Gulf Cartel now drives small work trucks known as “estaquitas” and gunmen wear orange workmen vests to blend with highway cleanup and construction crews.

Former upstate New York politician, 71, is found limping along an Ohio road 23 years after skipping town before jail sentencing for illegally selling guns

A former upstate New York politician who fled before his 1997 sentencing for illegally selling eight handguns has been found 23 years later by police limping down an Ohio street.

William Jones, 71, once the supervisor for the town of Mentz in Cayuga County, has been living the past two decades under a fake identity in Ohio, officials said.

Jones was out on a $20,000 bail when he failed to appear for his sentencing in 1997 after he was convicted of selling eight handguns when his pistol permit was suspended by a County Court judge.

But on Sunday, 23 years later, the long-time fugitive was found by an unassuming police officer in Waverly, Ohio, who stopped to assist a man who was limping down the side of the road, Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck said.

The officer took the unidentified man - who we now know to be Jones - to a local hospital but he became concerned when he did not have any photo identification to hand. He was also unable to identify himself.

An investigation revealed that the man was William Jones, who was a wanted fugitive out of the state of New York. Jones is now being held at a jail in Butler County, Ohio, to await extradition.

Jones had already served a jail sentence by the time of his disappearance in 1997.

As the Town Supervisor for Mentz in Cayuga County, he was convicted in 1996 of Official Misconduct stemming from his official role. He had failed to pay two highway department workers in October 1996, reports Syracuse.

While awaiting trial in that case, Jones went rogue for a month before surrendering himself to authorities.

He was eventually sentenced to one year in the Cayuga County Jail and served eight months.

After this first conviction, his pistol permit was suspended by County Court Judge Peter Cornings. But in 1997, he refused to relinquish his permit and eight handguns. He instead sold the guns and was subsequently charged.

He then went on the run after failing to appear for his sentencing - only to be found on Monday by an officer, 23 years later.
