His only reference to Russia was that they had 'obtained' information about voters, 'separately' from Iran.
Ratcliffe then proceeded to explain how Iran sent 'spoofed' emails to voters to intimidate them, to show chaos and confusion and undermine the election.
Ratcliffe never said Russia did this! He said Iran did it.

If you’re not extremely online, you may have been confused three weeks ago when President Trump was asked to condemn a group called the Proud Boys at the first presidential debate.
As my colleague Jane Coaston has explained, the Proud Boys are a hodgepodge of men’s right’s groups and pro-Trump street-fighting clubs that emerged in 2016 as a counterweight to antifa and other lefty protesters. But for most people who don’t follow politics all that closely, the debate was likely the first time hearing anything about them.
It was, for that reason, one of those strange moments in which the weird world of the online berserk spilled into the political mainstream. Indeed, given all the coverage the Proud Boys received after the debate, it may not be accurate to call them “fringe” any longer.
Which is why I reached out to Andrew Marantz, a writer at the New Yorker who spent years immersed in the world of online extremists. In his 2019 book, Antisocial, Marantz interviewed conspiracy theorists, alt-right trolls, and various media gate crashers who have flooded the virtual space and, in his words, “hijacked the American conversation.” The book is a fascinating guide through the digital wilderness, and it’s even more relevant now that several US intelligence agencies have warned of increased election-related threats from domestic extremist groups.
Marantz and I discussed how online extremism has evolved since his book was released, if he thinks the threat is being overstated, and the role of the tech companies in perpetuating all these problems. I also asked him if we just have to accept that American politics in the years to come is going to look increasingly like the darkest corners of the web.

Trump voters are more likely to believe in QAnon conspiracy theories

Surprisingly large number of Trump followers subscribe to QAnon conspiracy theories.
With less than two weeks left until the US presidential elections, a new poll has found that nearly half of Donald Trump’s supporters believe in the QAnon conspiracy theories that the president is in a battle with the deep state and paedophilic groups.
QAnon, is a group that believes that there is a widespread conspiracy in the US which is part of a cabal that involves the Democratic Party, satan worshipers and paedophile groups that want to bring down Trump.
Trump supporters were more likely to believe that the US president was in a titanic battle against these groups according to Yahoo News/YouGov study.
The conspiracy has gained traction in recent years with Trump at crucial moments fanning central ideas of the movement.
During an NBC town hall meeting, Trump was asked to distance himself from QAnon to which he replied "I know nothing about QAnon" adding that the only thing he knows is that "they are very strongly against paedophilia and I agree with that."
The statement was interpreted as support for the group and its central unifying theme. Trump is also acutely aware that in a tight election campaign he can not alienate a key voter demographic which includes conspiracy theorists.
QAnon has been labelled by the FBI a “conspiracy theory-driven domestic extremists” organisation.
In an internal assessment, the FBI noted that “these conspiracy theories very likely will emerge, spread, and evolve in the modern information marketplace, occasionally driving both groups and individual extremists to carry out criminal or violent acts."
QAnon conspiracy has also been linked with white supremacist organisation which according to the FBI drive the “majority of the domestic terrorism cases” in the US.
One of the reasons is why QAnon has been labelled as an emerging terrorist threat is because people associated with the group’s core ideas could commit acts of terrorism towards groups of people and organisations they deem to be part of the secretive cabal.
QAnon, however, is not simply confined to the US.
The ideas of the group have found fertile ground across the Atlantic ocean and in the UK.
A recent study in the UK has found that 25 percent of adults agreed that “secret satanic cults exist and include influential elites” and a similar portion believed that “elites in Hollywood, politics, the media and other powerful positions” are engaged in industrial-scale abuse.
One of the main reasons QAnon has found itself gaining traction is because of the discovery of high profile sexual predators like Jeffrey Epstein who was found to be procuring underage age girls for friends who were celebrities, politicians, business moguls and royalty.
The US-based Epstein had over decades cultivated friendships with well-known politicians like Bill Clinton, Donald Trump and even the famous model Naomi Campbell. There are no suggestions that those individuals knew what Epstein was doing, however, Epstein was able to use his power and privilege to silence his victims from coming forward.
In the UK over the years there have been revelations of high profile personalities engaged in paedophilia which has shocked people.
A famous celebrity in the UK by the name of Jimmy Saville, who was working for the BBC, abused more than 1,000 children over the span of several decades which only came to light after his death.
There were also reports in the UK media the members of parliament had strangled and killed a 12 year-year-old boy during a sex orgy in the 1980s.
As a result of the revelations, there was widespread outrage from people who felt that institutions had covered up instead of investigating historic reports of abuse.
The resulting loss of trust in institutions to fully grasp the scale of these scandals has resulted in a slow drift of people willing to believe in conspiracy groups like QAnon.

Cartoons from the French satirical weekly newspaper Charlie Hebdo were projected on the facades of buildings across France to mark a national day of mourning in honor of slain teacher Samuel Paty.
Paty was murdered by a Muslim extremist after showing Charlie Hebdo cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed to his students during a lesson on free speech.
Across the country, the newspapers’ cartoons were projected on the facades of numerous buildings in a show of support and solidarity for Paty and other victims of Islamist terror as well as a display of "freedom of expression" and "freedom of conscience,” according to Carole Delga, the president of the Occitanie region.
“There must be no weakness in the face of the enemies of democracy, in the face of those who take religion and transform it into a weapon of war,” Delga said.
The drawings displayed made fun of the three major monotheistic religions (Christianity, Islam and Judaism) at events across France as part of a national homage to Paty who was beheaded by 18-year-old Chechnya-born Abdullakh Anzorov on October 16, 2020. Photos of the murdered educator were also included in the displays.
French President Emmanuel Macron paid tribute to the slain teacher at an event held at the Sorbonne in Paris at 7pm on Wednesday evening while a silent march was also held in his memory.
Meanwhile, a parent of one of Paty's former pupils who began an online hate campaign against the teacher, as well as two teenagers who were part of a group who paid to doxx him so he could be killed are among seven people charged with Paty’s murder, according to anti-terrorism prosecutor Jean-Francois Ricard.
The father reportedly exchanged messages with Anzorov and the two teens, aged 14 and 15, aided and abetted the murder.
Anzorov decapitated Paty with a knife and then shared photographic evidence of the atrocity he had committed on Twitter prior to being shot dead by police.

Wisconsin report confirms Foxconn’s so-called LCD factory isn’t real
A state report on Foxconn’s Wisconsin factory depicts a project gone far off course. The report, issued this month by Wisconsin’s Division of Executive Budget and Finance and obtained through a records request, confirms that the company has not built the enormous Gen 10.5 LCD factory specified in its contract. It also says that the building the company claims is a smaller Gen 6 LCD factory shows no signs of manufacturing LCDs in the foreseeable future and “may be better suited for demonstration purposes.”
The report notes that Foxconn received a permit to use its so-called “Fab” for storage, which The Verge first reported this week. Furthermore, according to an industry expert consulted by the state, Foxconn has not ordered the equipment that would be needed to make LCDs. If the building were to be used as an LCD manufacturing facility, the expert notes it would be the smallest Gen 6 in the world and “would appear to be more of a showcase than a business viable for the long term.”
If any LCD-related manufacturing were to take place in the building, the analysis says, it would likely only be the final assembly of components produced elsewhere and imported to Wisconsin. Such a project would have a vastly smaller impact on local supply chains and employ nowhere near the 13,000 workers anticipated in Foxconn’s contract with the state.
Wisconsin Secretary of the Department of Administration Joel Brennan said in an interview with The Verge today that “clearly the Gen 6 that’s been discussed and built in Mount Pleasant is not similar to other Gen 6 fabs around the world.” Brennan said the memo was an effort to consult industry experts to better understand the scope of Foxconn’s current project and its potential impact on the state. “There was justified criticism of the [former Governor Scott] Walker administration for entering into this contract, and not really getting any outside experts for an industry that was new to Wisconsin,” Brennan said. “This is about making sure that we can use the best expertise that we have inside and outside state government so that we can make the best decisions possible.”
The report provides the fullest articulation of the state’s reason for rejecting Foxconn’s subsidy payments so far. Last week, the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC), which oversees the deal, denied the company its first installment of the nearly $3 billion refundable tax credits because it hasn’t built the “Gen 10.5 Fab” specified in its contract.
The project Foxconn has pursued instead, the new analysis says, would not have warranted the record-breaking subsidy package passed by then-Gov. Scott Walker, nor required the infrastructure state and local governments have built to support it. “Taxpayers fully performed their side of the agreement to date, while the Recipients have not,” the report says. In fact, “state taxpayers have spent as much if not more than” Foxconn has on improvements to the company’s supposed manufacturing campus. The Verge previously reported that state and local governments spent at least $400 million on the project, mostly on land and infrastructure the company will likely never need. Foxconn listed approximately $300 million in capital expenses at the end of 2019.
There is no foreseeable way that the Foxconn project will employ anywhere near the number of people it was supposed to under the contract with Wisconsin. At the end of last year, it employed only 281 eligible under the terms of the contract, rather than the 2,080 it was supposed to, or even the 520 it needed to employ to get tax subsidies. By the end of 2022, it was supposed to employ 13,000 workers. And those numbers are going in the wrong direction. The Verge’s investigation found that Foxconn recruited large numbers of local college students and foreign recent graduates on visas late in 2019 as it tried to hit the employment threshold needed to receive subsidies, only to lay off many employees once the deadline passed. The state report notes that Foxconn’s employment numbers have fallen this year, and “a pattern of hiring spikes at the year-end December job reporting deadline followed by drops in the following months” fails to meet Foxconn’s contractual obligation to maintain employment levels for several years.

VATICAN CITY (AP) — The Vatican and China extended a controversial accord on bishop nominations Thursday over strong opposition from the White House and conservative Catholics given Beijing’s crackdown on religious believers.
The Holy See and Beijing government jointly announced a two-year extension to the 2018 agreement, which expired Thursday.
The Vatican justified the extension by saying the agreement was purely ecclesiastic and pastoral in nature, not political, though it noted that continued dialogue would allow for discussion on other problems, including human rights abuses.
In an unsigned article accompanying the announcement, the Vatican newspaper L’Osservatore Romano said the Vatican “does not fail to attract the attention of the Chinese government to encourage a more fruitful exercise of religious freedom.”
The agreement, which has never been published, envisages a process of dialogue in selecting bishops though Pope Francis has said he has the final word. The Vatican signed it in 2018 in hopes it would help unite China’s Catholics, who for seven decades have been split between those belonging to an official, state-sanctioned church and an underground church loyal to Rome.
The Vatican has defended the 2018 accord against criticism that Francis sold out the underground faithful, saying the deal was necessary to prevent an even worse schism in the Chinese church after Beijing named bishops without the pope’s consent.
The 2018 accord regularized the status of seven of these “illegitimate” bishops and brought them into full communion with the pope — a key goal of the Vatican in pushing for a deal.
The question of bishop nominations has long vexed Vatican-China relations, with the Holy See insisting on the pope’s divine right to name the successors of the apostles and Beijing considering such nominations foreign infringement on its sovereignty.

China doesn’t give a fuck if the TB (Taliban) is in charge, just as long as they look the other way once they’re on the take; the TB will want their cut of course. This will happen as soon as the U.S. pulls out and it’s back to burkas as usual.

China’s Afghan Game Plan
In his latest book, On China, Henry Kissinger uses the traditional intellectual games favored by China and the West – weiqi and chess – as a way to reveal their differing attitudes toward international power politics. Chess is about total victory, a Clausewitzian battle for the “center of gravity” and the eventual elimination of the enemy, whereas weiqi is a quest for relative advantage through a strategy of encirclement that avoids direct conflict.
This cultural contrast is a useful guide to the way that China manages its current competition with the West. China’s Afghan policy is a case in point, but it also is a formidable challenge to the weiqi way. As the United States prepares to withdraw its troops from the country, China must deal with an uncertain post-war scenario.
Afghanistan is of vital strategic interest to China, yet it never crossed its leaders’ minds to defend those interests through war. A vital security zone to China’s west, Afghanistan is also an important corridor through which it can secure its interests in Pakistan (a traditional ally in China’s competition with India), and ensure its access to vital natural resources in the region. Moreover, China’s already restless Muslim-majority province of Xinjiang, which borders on Afghanistan, might be dangerously affected by a Taliban takeover there, or by the country’s dismemberment.
The US fought its longest-ever war in Afghanistan, at a cost (so far) of more than $555 billion, not to mention tens of thousands of Afghan civilian casualties and close to 3,100 US troops killed. But China’s strategy in the country was mostly focused on business development, and on satiating its vast appetite for energy and minerals. The US Defense Department has valued Afghanistan’s untapped mineral deposits at $1 trillion. But it is China that is now poised to exploit much of these resources.
Indeed, China’s development of the Aynak Copper Mine was the largest single foreign direct investment in Afghanistan’s history. China was also engaged in constructing a $500 million electric plant and railway link between Tajikistan and Pakistan. Last December, China’s state-owned National Petroleum Corporation signed a deal with the Afghan authorities that would make it the first foreign company to exploit Afghanistan’s oil and natural-gas reserves.
