Electricucks are an even bigger scourge than I ever imagined.

This new Lotus is not a Lotus at all. It's 1600 kg and has 2000 bhp. Its body looks like a fighter jet without wings and probably sounds like one too. It has shat on just about every single one of Colin Chapman's core tenets. It's heavy, doesn't use the most of what it could have had (i.e. a more manageable 600 bhp powerplant), and definitely isn't simple.

And poor Clarkson in those last couple of minutes. That is the face of man who knows he was finally right about supercars going the way of the dodo, but he pre-emptively cried wolf so many times in his career that his word is now useless. You can just sense how depressed and defeated he is from his comments. There is no soul in a car like that Lotus. It is literally a machine.

With the advent of current electric motors being as powerful as they are, we're now in an era of what I call "gratuitous speed". Speed beyond what will ever be necessary in 99% of applications. Would this new Lotus destroy Nurburgring? Absolutely. But even on the straightest, emptiest, most beautifully paved roads, how fast would you be able to take this thing before having to slow down? 150? 180? Regardless of how fast it could accelerate, you would not be able to take it anywhere near 250, let alone 300. Because by that point, the tyre wear would be so severe even the highest quality rubber would shred in minutes. Anything suddenly jumps out at you, you're dead. And since it's electric, nobody would be able to hear you coming.

Anyone with a brain but more importantly, a heart would agree with Clarkson's sentiments; the natural rumbling cacophony of a powerful engine can never be replaced by a fake noise generated by a speaker from a rumble-less battery with a flat torque curve. Try telling that to the Jewtube commenters who are glad it's the end for ICEs. I'm doing all I can but there's too many of these kikes. They will not take away what is ours.

I will assume you mean miles, not km/h. Because a tired Audi S4 from early 2000s can do above 250 easily.

I am not that worried about electic cars taking over. They have their uses, ICEs have their own different uses.

Not a big fan of hypercars as a thing to own, but they give engineers room to play around, to push the technological limits.

Anyway, this belongs on the "found on Youtube" thread, not really on its own.

I think you're missing part of the point. There's no way in hell electrics will take over on their own merits, yes, but there's a very real chance they'll be shoved down our collective throats through ever more restrictive regulations. It's the same reason small diesel engines are nonexistent here in the states, despite their very obvious utility for consumers.

If it's only hypercars, I don't really mind. They're for people with fuck you money and we all know here that we aren't the target.

Truely the market will shift if the buyers shift. If people like us keep on buying gas-guzzling V8s, the market will still exist, for us. I'm afraid of the new forced regulations, I'm not exited for future cars.

Sucks for you then. Europe runs on small diesels and 1.8l gasoline engines (1.8 is the statistical average). And your Ford 1.4 TD even with no intercooler is great.

And all cars sold in Europe after 2030 have to be electric. We're all in this regulatory hell together, anon.

Some manufacturers don't even offer anything electric in Europe. I think that the power company dream of everyone buying all electric by 2030 is not realistic. Maybe 2040. And even then if more people set up wind/solar generators.

The main drawback to electric cars is that nobody makes a proper work vehicle. I want a electric van that does not look lame and can do 500km on one overnight charge. Room for 4x2m box in the back mandatory. Vans are big and heavy anyway, who cares if you stuff them with batteries?

Once companies start buying electric car fleets and they end up in second hand market 5 years later, their march to mainstream popularity will begin.

They can try, it's not gonna work. Longer trips between countries in Europe will be a colossal pain with EV and all they'll do is piss people off. Plus major Euro automakers are still shit at building EVs, if Brussels will get lobbied to ban ICE then automakers will lobby on the opposite.

I hate to say it, but it's already happening. Volvo won't even sell anything with an ICE in about 2 years time. 11 years is more than long enough for every other mainstream manufacturer to totally restructure. The best thing to do is just enjoy the ride and be thankful we lasted the best part of 130 years. It'll just be electrified crossovers from here on in, from entry-level first cars (i.e. the Captur) through to "rally monsters" and "sports coupés" (Eclipse, Puma, Nissan's Z-Cars, Lancer Evo - if the latter gets made into anything other than pic related I will travel to Japan and murder the CEO of Shitsubishi myself). We need to regroup and focus on 2030. A little too early to do anything yet, but we need to lobby and perhaps do what the truck drivers did in 2000 when fuel was starting to run low - block the motorways with a group of us cruising at 30 - 40 MPH at least 5 cars deep, making sure no-one can get past, even on the slip roads. That to me sounds like the most effective means of protest. I'd do it every fucking day if I had to. Any act of aggression would look bad on the law enforcement side. My car would definitely have provocate imagery just for the lulz though - think Calvin peeing on a picture of Greta Thunberg or something tongue-in-cheek about "Chloe" (((Sagal)))'s self-immolation.

This is the type of car that's going to be replacing the S-Max, Galaxy, and Mondeo (aka Fusion) in one fell swoop in 2021. A crossover wagon. Its successor will most likely be full-electric.

1000km? Why would you need to travel 800km? Hardly anyone ever has to travel 500km, so why do you need to travel 250km, goy? Just buy this shitbox with a 125km range taht actually makes it 75km in the winter on one charge, goy, while the electric power company will fuck your ass raw with extra charges for supplying that huge amount of electric power you need to charge your shitty glorified golf cart. Oh, did I mention we totally need green energy because nuclear bad? Enjoy your brownouts, goyim.

In the end, this will lead to hardly anyone owning a car and having to fight for an extra cubic centimeter of breathing space in an overcrowded cattle car aka public transportation.

You are making it look worse than it is. They currently have 2 major problems electric car makes have to figure out:

< figure out how to make a battery that holds the same range in -30c and +25c

< they are heavy for their size, thus their ability to go off-asphalt is crap

< make it a manual

Seriously, EVs main drawback is the fact that they all ar autos. Hell, a simulated manual would be fine too. The "goes as fast as you push the pedal" system is bullshit and always has been. Sometimes you need to go slow with minor adjustments to speed and lots of pedal play. For instance, pic related. Yea you could go fast and shake your car and backbone into a fine mush, but fuck that.

Also i bet electricity prices will skyrocket at some point once EVs catch on.

>>18534

>They currently have 2 major problems electric car makes have to figure out:

Again, it won't be the market but legislation that will make EVs dominant. Nobody is in dispute that in a fair fight, ICs will wipe the floor with them. But this isn't a fair fight, EVs are not expected to win on their own merits, EVs will win because the competition is being made illegal.

Lao Tze said never to make the mistake of underestimating your enemy. I certainly am not underestimating the combined efforts of the environutters, public transport advocates, manginas that spend all day with a GoPro on their helmet automatically synced to upload to Youtube, and general autophobes which means fear of oneself but they abuse Greek just as much that just hate cars for some reason.

As history has told time and time again, it doesn't matter what works. What matters is what TPTB want. Which is why Which is why boxcars, trams and trolleybuses stopped existing in the '50s in favor of buses that follow predetermined routes. Which is why the operating system used by the majority of the populace is a mobile-oriented botnet that can't play real Minecraft. Which is why instead of having a global police force that can step up to the threats of terrorism and theft, we have a bunch of pussies that go after those who do. I refer you back to >>17547 - Kay Pinnock would never have got her car back if she'd vested her trust in the police, but they probably would have arrested 100 spoon-carriers during that same timeframe.

Yeah, but who gives a fuck? Volvo is owned by Chinks and chinks want to push EVs because they produce so much of the world's lithium and lithium ion batteries. That's their only motivation for going electric.

>>18533

>1000km? Why would you need to travel 800km? Hardly anyone ever has to travel 500km, so why do you need to travel 250km, goy?

That's the thing, plenty of people do. If Brussels tries to pull that shit, they will immediately piss off the entirety of Eastern Europe and lead the EU to division. Lots of people NEED cars that can drive 400km to and back, and electric isn't going to cut it with how shit chargers and batteries are. EVs are for urbanites and urbanites only.

Clarkson looks so old now, reminder he's only 59. Look at Sean Bean for comparison, he's in his early 60s and miles better. This is what smoking and drinking every night does to you kids, ages you, look at Clarkson, not even 60 yet but looks older than my 80 year old nan. Christ on a bike.

Just give it a smaller engine capable of less speed. It doesn't need to make much noise - A car doesn't need to be loud to be noticed. If people and drivers look around and pay attention, then all that is needed is a horn for the retards who aren't.

that I fear the news. This is something I feared for a long time. Chapman is rolling in his grave. Electricucks are satan spawn. The NHTSA FMVSS and EURONCAP

https://www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.dot.gov/files/fmvss-quickrefguide-hs811439.pdf (yes that is a "quick reference guide" consisting of 41 pages of asinine regulations) have made it impossible to make good cars. FUCK THIS GAY EARTH

Look at the Esprit. This is Chapman's vision, an extremely light, short wheelbase with wheels at the corners, high revving smaller displacement engine, exceptionally refined sporting car with racing pedigree.
