Stopping any addiction is incredibly difficult. I've been addicted to many things. Porn, alcohol, meth, heroin, various opioids, various other amphetamines, diflourethane, and many more. When thinking about how to overcome an addiction, it is important both to address how you will live your new life and find healthy ways to cope with stress and boredom, but it is just as important to address the underlying condition of your life that makes you run to destructive coping mechanisms. It is no coincidence that industrialized societies have insane suicide, depression, anxiety, and addiction rates. Life is meaningless for most people, the process of securing your physical necessities takes minimal real effort or the effort it does take is so disconnected from the way humans evolved to live that we get no meaning from it.
A lot of what can be done while still living an industrial way of life is to clean up your lifestyle. When I was struggling to overcome porn addiction and kept relapsing, a large factor that enabled me to do that was my lack of self esteem. When I began exercising regularly, particularly cardio (which is the most psychologically beneficial and rewarding exercise), it completely revitalized my self worth and I didn't want to relapse nearly as much because I respected myself and didn't want to let myself sink to that because I knew I could do better and would do better. As you walk this nofap journey, your self esteem will continue to increase. Of course I still have cravings to fap, but I remember the sad, miserable person I was before I began to respect myself and I decide not to. One day at a time. When you get a craving, think before you act. Think about what you want for yourself in the long term instead of just considering what will make you feel good in the moment.
