Youmu Fan Art on Pixiv in 2017
In 2017 Youmu fan art on Pixiv has again diminished a bit, but it's still relatively stable above 5k/year.
Manga submissions, however, have diminished substantially.
This shows that the declining amount of fan art can't be solely explained by the popularity of "matome" manga submissions.
That being said, older manga submissions tend to be genuine manga, so there's definitely a steep decline in that category.
The graph doesn't take into account that matome submissions are also more likely to be untagged than single illustrations, but bear in mind that the same thing can be said for the past few years.
Furthermore, the graph also neglects that older illustrations are more likely to be already deleted, so the actual amount of illustrations in the early years was originally probably much higher.

For the sake of completion, here's a short digest of news I originally missed or skipped:
Youmu appeared in Chapter 45 of Wild and Horned Hermit
Even though she doesn't have any actual dialogue in the chapter, she appears quite a lot in this one. So it's worth checking out.
I'm not sure whether her inclusion in this one was just artistic freedom by the artist (which I suspect is the case with many background cameos) or actually by ZUN's direction.

ZUN allowed doujin LINE stickers
A while ago ZUN green-lit doujin LINE stickers in addition to the official ones I mentioned previously in >>438 and >>498 .
There are now hundreds of unofficial LINE sticker sets and many include at least one Youmu sticker.
Some are even Youmu-only sticker sets such as the one from Sazanami Mio.
Unfortunately, one of the requirements for the unofficial Touhou stickers forbids them from being published outside Japan, so all of them are region-locked just like the official stickers.

I completely missed this for over a month, but:
Youmu Appeared as a Major Character in Chapter 47 of Wild and Horned Hermit
And she actually is relevant to the story and has a lot of dialogue.
I think it's safe to say that she will appear in the next chapter as well.
This is the first time in a long time that Youmu doesn't just appear just as a cameo or joke character.
We even learn something new(?) about her:
She is able to converse with phantoms.
She probably does this a lot then.
In any case, I don't remember this being canon before and especially not with her human half.
Is it just me or has azmaya's art style gotten extremely cute lately?

The figurine is available for pre-order on amiami and set to be released on an unannounced date in March.
Contrary to previous information, it's a non-scale model after all.
This is in line with the previous Youmu figurine by Embracejapan and most likely due to Youmu not having an official height.

ZUN Raffled Off Two Old Youmu Sketches at the Latest Nikennme Radio Event
ZUN celebrated the 100th Nikennme Radio Event with by raffling off more than 20 sketches (and various other goods), among them two old Youmu sketches from 2005.
The sketches were originally displayed at Ichijinsha's booth during Comiket 69, most likely as advertisement for Bohemian Archive in Japanese Red, which they published.

The 15th Touhou Popularity Poll Will Be The Final One (For Now)
When the date of the 15th Touhou Popularity Poll was announced back in November, the representative of its executive committee Usui also announced that this will be their final Touhou Popularity Poll.
As the main reason for the sudden discontinuation, he cited business in the staff members' lives.
However, Usui also stated that this only meant that the current management would be retiring and if someone else was willing to take over the project, they would consider it and referred to a specifically created recruitment page.
In this scenario, the current management would be phased out and replaced with new members while he would still act as support.
Another possibility would be a completely new Touhou Popularity Poll that would inherit the current one only in name.
In this case, Usui also offers his cooperation if needed.

Youmu Has Been Confirmed to Appear in Touhou Cannonball
Touhou Cannonball is a mobile game developed by corporate developer Quatro A for Aniplex. It seems to be a mobile board game with RPG elements set to be released this year. It also implements gacha mechanics.
In today's live stream Youmu's character art was among the first five that were revealed. Her character art is drawn by Sazanami Mio and his design is also used for the 3D model, albeit superdeformed.
As with the other content ZUN has licensed to Japanese corporations, I don't expect this game to be released in the West.
However, it seems to be greatly anticipated by Japanese fans.

There has actually been quite a bit of new lately, but I held it back to not overshadow Touhou 17.
First of all, a bit of Touhou Cannonball news:
The website has been updated and preregistration is possible now.
The website now confirms that Waki Azumi is Youmu's voice actress and also features a screenshot of Youmu in story mode.
Youmu in story mode was also shown off at Reitaisai, but I only found a really bad photo.
Secondly, the Touhou/LINE collaboration mentioned above ( >>620 ) is ending at the end of this month, after which point the sticker sets can't be purchased anymore.
On a positive note, the website now features preview images in the original size when you click on a sticker and you can easily turn off compression in the url, too. So if you have a Japanese proxy/VPN, go for it.

Youmu is one of the main jurors in the Grimoire of Usami
In the book Usami, Reimu, Marisa, Sakuya, Sanae and Youmu judge danmaku fireworks.
Unfortunately, Youmu only appears as a background character in azmaya's manga bits, but she gets a lot of text otherwise and it's absolutely amazing.
The danmaku pages have cute illustrations by Benishake (aka poprication), not to be confused with another artist of the same name.
