>naval trivia
Up until mid-1944, the most advanced torpedo in the US submarine force's arsenal was the Mark 14. The Mark 14 was, up until that time, an almost completely ineffective weapon. Basically, the Bureau of Ordinance failed to properly test it, both while it was being designed and when sub captains began to report failures.
The thing had four main faults: The thing ran too deep, the magnetic influence detonator was too sensitive, the contact detonator failed during high-energy impacts, and the gyro system could occasionally send the thing back at its launcher (although that last one was common to all gyro-guided torpedoes).
The running too deep was an engineering oversight - essentially the depth detector checked water pressure to determine depth, but the port it sampled the water from was at the rear of the torpedo where pressure was lower, so it thought it was too shallow. The torpedo, therefore, went deeper than set and missed its target entirely. They eventually fixed this, after a few impromptu tests, by moving the sensing port to the midsection, where the flow effects were minimal.
The magnetic detonator was designed to use the fact that the earth's magnetic field magnetizes any large metal objects floating in the ocean; it detected the ambient magnetic field of the ship and detonated when it was at a certain strength, which if properly calibrated would be directly beneath the target. However, the detonator was tested near the equator, where such fields are weakest, and used at high latitudes where the fields were stronger. The torpedo detected the field and detonated too early. The problem was compounded because one of the admirals running the Silent Service was in BuOrds when the Mk14 was being designed and refused to believe his pet project didn't work. Eventually he was overruled, but by then at least 3 carriers, including Junyou, were spared due to this defect.
Then, when they eventually turned off the magnetic detonator, pic related happened because the contact detonator was fucked too. This was because the detonator was copied wholesale from the earlier, and slower, Mark 10. The firing pin was positioned perpendicular to the direction of travel, which worked for the Mk10 because it was a relatively slow torpedo. When the much faster Mk14 impacted a target, the sudden deceleration caused the firing pin to bind in its channel and fail to impact the primer. Eventually Pearl Harbor quick-fixed the problem, and the Mk14 finally became a decent weapon, nearly two years after the war began.
The upshot of this whole thing is that, if/when an American subgirl appears, she's likely to have run with barely-functioning weapons for her entire service career. Any admirals commanding her should give her their torpedo ASAP. (And also the German subs - they had similar issues.)
Yes, the whole point of this post was for that joke.

Interesting. I've gone through the Battlefield episodes on the Pacific theater. Are there more good ones? They're pretty nice, and I recommend them to anyone that's interested in boat warfare and haven't watched them. Lots of ships getting hurt, though.

>Lesser known member of her ship class, built three months before her sisters
>Made in fierce competition for the title of fastest and biggest ocean liner in the world
>Designed to be the most beautiful, luxurious and comfortable ship in her class despite being a major financial risk, ultimately losing on the speed department to her rival, RMS Mauretania
>First sailed in 1910 in an extremely modest form, without most compartments, and no christening ceremony of her own
>Later had her empty hull built up into a working ship
>Completed her maiden voyage, from Southampton to New York in 1911, attracting a lot of public attention
>Only 3 months into service, she collided with cruiser HMS Hawke in the Osborne Bay, having her side sliced open and flooding two of her watertight compartments, but she refused to sink, earning the reputation of being "unsinkable" her class was made to be
>Had to sail to Belfast, where she was costly repaired for over 3 months, right next to her younger sister, RMS Titanic, whose construction was almost complete, delaying the latter's construction by weeks
>Summed over $250,000 dollars in repair costs, which was the equivalent of expected profits of her two first years in service
>Off the North American coast, while on her way back to England, she received a distress call from Titanic, which was on her maiden voyage, 930km to the Northeast
>Despite immediately setting off to help, she was not fast enough to arrive on time, not even to see her sister one last time
>Returned home to receive a double hull, reinforced bulkheads and extra lifeboats, as did her new sister, RMS Britannic, which was still under construction in Belfast
>Later retired from commercial service due to her company's plummeting reputation and the loss of Titanic
>Requisitioned by the Royal Navy in 1915 due to ship shortages, mounted with 12-pound and 4.7-inch guns
>Ferried up to 6000 troops to the Mediterranean in the Gallipoli Campaign
>Risked herself by stopping a ferry to save 34 survivors of the French ship Provincia in 1915, which was hit by an U-boat
>Charted by Canada in 1916 to transport troops from Halifax to Britain, receiving a dazzle camouflage for the operation
>Made many safe crossings the following year, becoming a popular symbol in Halifax, honored by places such as Olympic Gardens and the Olympic Hall Community Center for her service
>Transported US troops to Europe in 1917
>Came in close contact with an U-boat in 1918, which was about to launch torpedo, but had malfunctions
>Quickly rammed the U-boat, successfully sinking it before it could fire
>Transported up to 200,000 troops throughout the war, restoring her image and earning the title of "Old Reliable"
>Returned to Belfast after the end of the war in 1918 to be repaired, repainted, modernized and put back into civilian service, alone
>Her sister HMHS Britannic, turned into a hospital ship in 1915, struck by a mine a year later while carrying the sick and the wounded, sharing Titanic's fate
>The last of her class, she became a popular ship after the war, but her class was still a financial disaster with the loss of her sisters
>Scheduled for retirement with the completion of her successor RMS Queen Mary in 1936, but not before the last return of her haunting misfortune
>Accidentally rammed the Nantucket lightship due to heavy fog near the New York Harbor, breaking it apart and sinking it in 1934, one year before her official retirement
>Left New York in 1935 to return home for the last time
>After 24 years of service, over 430,000 passengers transported, 257 round trips around the Atlantic, and a total of 2.9 million kilometers traveled, she would retire in 1935, much like her lifelong rival Mauretania, likewise bereaved of her own twin sister, despite the protests of their loyal crewmen and passengers
>Would spend her final days quietly docked in Southampton, until their final dismantlement in 1937
>The last of the three sisters - The Medic, The Unsinkable, and The Veteran
Sleep well, Ms. Olympic.

Not that I know of.
That other one was ran by a kike redditor that censored bad search terms like "loli" who then proceeded to kill the site by illegally trying to profit from it.
Invidious isn't as bad, but it still takes thumbnails and videos straight from google server to your computer (if you have any sort of domain blocking addons on your browser you can see it links to ytimg and googlevideo), so it's even more dangerous than downloading a video straight from youtube with youtube-dl.
Webms/mp4s are the only safe alternative. If you're unable to do that then just post a text link so other anons won't send their browser info and IP straight to google just from browsing the page.

Because someone who's smart and not a kike would have to do that, which's the hardest part.
You'd have to pay for it yourself since you can't legally put ads and donations don't work as well for that kind of service, as seen by archive sites.
