All spiders have Pedipalps, in old-world spiders though (ie. Tarantulas) the pedipalps are larger, as they're used to move sperm packets to the female.

Any good story recommendations for an Arachne girl working to help overcome a boi's arachnophobia? I'd started to tell myself a story about that but I figured I'd search and see if someone else had done something like that already. I would assume such content had been composed before since the premise seems pretty obvious.

Did I make her too ugly? I didn't want her to be gorgeous, I was going for somewhere between a 6 or an 8 depending on your tastes. I don't see Tarantula themed girls often so I wanted to play around with what one would be like.
>poor eyesight
>Urticating hair
>liquid diet.
I figured a spider girl would get that much play in the kelp chan thread. I thought about drawing some illicit non-cannon head-patting of her.
Would you want to pet an older spider fraulein who reluctantly accepts it after she tries to argue that you shouldn't be petting an old lady like her in the first place and then she gives you a remorseful look and starts crying as she realizes she never let anyone get close to her because she was afraid of rejection?

I thought she was pretty cute. Definitely a 7 or 8 for me. Though I am the kind of man who is entirely infatuated with cute scary girls.
Tarantula girls don't get enough love.
I would head pat her without hesitation given the chance and then more if she started crying

>Did I make her too ugly
No, she's cute in her own right. Certainly, if she existed and she wanted to, I'd go out with her to eat some schnitzel while watch the northern sky in our Volkswagen convertible. Plus, the glasses look cute on her. Personally, I'd give her a 5-6 because I love really long hair on a woman and think short hair is inherently unfeminine.
Some personal observations:
1. She has four back-legs plus her front legs and her arms. That's a weird config for a spider-girl. Not saying it's wrong, though one could argue she's technically a weird insectoid/arachnid hybrid.
2. I don't view a spider's liquid diet as necessarily homo-hematophagic (if that can be a word) like a vampiress or mosquito girl. Erika could just consume specially prepped animal blood and nobody would bat an eye. She could also probably do those egg shakes since those still fits her species. Large spiders go after small animals like birds and amphibians.
Spiders apparently can eat plant-based food as well as insect. https://archive.fo/zeF8G
3. Creatures of all kinds can have acute anatomical changes or specialization for reproduction and progeny, like mammal immune suppression that keeps a mother's immune system from attacking her genetically distinct child. Erika's front-leg hairs can be more comfortable so her hubby and children hug them without the irritation.
4. >Do joo have any idea

>front legs
I thought the consensus was that they were supposed to be the pedipalp?
>liquid diet
Canonically she has other choices but it's as I stated in her notes section, it's more of a personal fetish that certain predator-centric monstergirls indulge in. She wouldn't die without blood but she gets off on consuming it and is probably a little addicted. It's kinda sexual but not really? It's more a latent gratification instinct is what I was going for. Kind of like how a dog chases after a frisby and enjoys chew toys as a way to gratify that hunter instinct they don't get to use in modern cushy dog life. Tarantula's are an ambush predator. They only use their webs to sense prey, not trap them.
>reproduction and progeny
The pedipalp (front legs) wouldn't be too bad but the ones on her back and shoulders would be properly irritating. Her progeny would be immune I think but if you were the virgin consummater it would take a stern will and some nifty navigating. She's more self-conscious about the appearance than the irritation but the irritation is the icing on the embarrassing cake.
>Why is she going to the Jews for leg-shaving advice
She might indulge in blood drinking in private but at least she doesn't suck the blood of freshly circumcised baby dicks.
Here's a list of the fetishes I wrapped her in.
[x] Spider body. You could add the multiple eyes in there as well but I kinda see that as separate I'll
[x] glasses.
[~] hairy all over (not my favorite but you gotta try new stuff every now and again)
[x] Fangs
[x] blood drinking
[x] older lady
[x] thick thighs and a little gut. She'd look good in stockings I think.
[x] exotic accent + occasional foreign words.
[x] Big ol' tiddies.
Those are just the ones I projected onto her, there may be some others that got were subconsciously added or otherwise viewed by someone else that I didn't even think about.
There are so many things going on for her that for me she's a solid 8. I enjoyed dreaming her up. Since >>396343 indulged in my fantasy I may try and do my imagination JUSTICE and draw her receiving some head pats even if she has to reluctantly accept them.

>I thought the consensus was that they were supposed to be the pedipalp?
>Pedipalp: either of the second pair of appendages of various arthropods
Well, that's a thing apparently and I was too dumb to realize those front, hairy, fang-like things were a spiders "arms". Thank you, I learned something new! I was only thinking of the numerous art where there's only four legs and the arms were what you would consider pedipalps, or even three true legs and the arms as the "fourth" pair.
>Spider body, multiple jumping-spider-tier eyes, glasses, fangs, Ara, thick thighs and hips, exotic accent, BIG ol' tiddies
Hey, those are all respectable, god-tier fetishes, and objectively Erika is a 7 or 8. You're just talking to a bit of a trichophiliac

First off, it's non cannon. Secondly, kelp-chan is a an ongoing narrative kinda thing whereas the aforementioned content just me felating myself to my own fantasies. Unless it's in an official episode or writefag content it's just non-canon scribblin'.
While Kelpy has the worst luck (at times) she at least has her own comic. I don't think Erika will enjoy a similar privilege since she's harder to draw and I have to take more time when crafting her dialogue cus of dat accent.

Smoldering ruins of the once enviable castle glowed in the distance and it acted as a grave marker of sorts for the many citizens the once budding kingdom was starting to host. While worthy of a name before, the recent conflict would see that it be lost to time. And yet, at the foot of the castle walls, an unassuming soldier regains his cognizance.
He'd held fast at the royal court during the last desperate attempt at defense and personally witnessed the King be run through before he himself had been felled while rushing to preempt the inevitable. Through some cruel twist of fate a wound he thought fatal was slightly less so and he awoke at the base of the ramparts where he once stood watch some time ago. The invaders no doubt mistook his grave appearance for one of death and threw him over the wall to ensure some end regardless. A decorative tree buffered his fall and the ground was kind enough to cushion his impact as best it could. A lesser fellow would have been undone by such a drop.
And yet, he was already dead. With no king to serve and no kingdom to call home, he was a knight without purpose. Truly a pitiable situation. He limped away into the night, the sun having set not only his duty but the day as well.
***
Warnings of fiends and foul creatures at the cave's approach did little to dissuade his already dour demeanor. At best, it was a den for runaways and vagabonds. It would serve as good a place as any for him to finally rest. A lantern was nestled next to a rocky outcrop outside the entrance. He took it apprehensively and in its place left a ceremonial dagger gifted to him from his captain. For what purpose? To let others know a knight of a fallen kingdom resided inside? Such a delicate blade was barely suited for opening letters and peeling apples. Its value was far more sentimental in nature. Whatever the outcome, it would find more use in hands other than his. The modest trade was made.
The lantern gave a modest glimmer while darkness enveloped him as he ventured further into the cavern. Wayward markings and scraps of others littered nooks and crevices along the way. Eyes from the shadows watched as he delved lower. Ominous as they were, he couldn't bring himself to care. His recent devastating defeat deafened his defensive posture and only served to further his disenchanted detachment. Webbing tugged at his pauldrons while glistening from the meager light the lantern provided. With a groan, he undid various latches and buckles which sent his plated armor clanking to the ground and echoing deep into the darkness. Their weight offered little comfort and the crests they bore had lost their prior significance. The webbing dotted the floor and created a carpet of sticky if impromptu cushion-like material. He smiled at his pauldrons that were held aloft by said webbing. He attached the lantern to a similar strand before succumbing to his desire to rest and indulged in the comfort that the sticky the fiber conceded. A growly voice scolded him before he could drift off.
"A thief? Or perhaps a fool. Your sordid stench is hard to miss."
His tired eyes drifted up to meet hers. She had a few more to meet his. Additionally, her arachnid lower half with its slender splendor of spidery legs would be unnerving to most but his recent brush with death left him ambivalent towards her otherwise unsettling anatomy.
"Forgive me, I didn't mean to intrude."
"You saw the warnings outside?"
"Aye."
He sat up to meet her with a more polite posture and she responded with a weighty spidery limb connecting to the wall next to his head.
"And yet you venture into my home? Humans, your sort, revel in my kinds extermination. What of your intent?"
Claw-like fingers gripped his temple. A menacing presence, it was a flamboyant sort of intimidation display. It did little to stir him from his indifferent posture. He shrugged in response.
"I'm afraid I'm ill-suited for such an endeavor at the moment. Not that I was inclined towards violence to begin with."
"So you are a fool then! Trespassing carries a heavy toll. You won't leave this cave alive if you fail to satisfy your debt!"
He managed a smirk as his head sunk "I wasn't really counting on leaving."
"Contemptable! Mayhaps I'll have you beg for your life before I take it!"
The threat evoked a laugh from the knight. "You may need to hurry then."

He shifted his tabard aside and lifted his tattered gambeson exposing a grevious and ghastly wound. Innards leaked outward and a heavy helping of hemoglobin soaked his assorted garb. The lady recoiled from the gruesome spectacle and covered her mouth as her spidery legs curled in reflexively.
"As you can see, I'll not be long for this world. Do what you feel you must. My outcome is already decided I think." He sunk down onto the webbed floor with a look of contentment at the soft gift it provided.
"Idiot! What gives you the right to…- If you want to die you can do so elsewhere!"
Eyes shut, he spoke confidently with a sleepy tone "If my legs would cooperate I'd happily oblige but I've walked as far as they'll take me for today."
She was livid and took the unfortunate soldier into her arms.
"You won't die in my abode."
A sincere look of worry crept onto the soldier's face.
"You'd deny me a resting place? You really are heartless."
"Cease your foolishness! I'll mend your mire and then expel you in due time."
Before he could manage a witty retort she began to skitter along yet deeper into the cave. He urged her to stop.
"L-lamp! Don't leave it! I don't much care for the dark! Forgive me, but I'd rather not expire in the abyss."
She grabbed the lamp with a pedipalp before passing it to a free finger on a hand hosting the solider and gave a vexed look.
"You won't expire."
He nodded graciously "Thank you…"
"What manner of knight fears the dark?"
"One who might feel it creeping in."
She groaned at the response. She didn't want him drifting off so she chatted him further.
"What name does this knight bear?"
"Cutlass. Like the sword. Although I've been told I'm not that sharp. What name would you possess my monsterfolk host?"
"Gale."
"Like the wind? You can be quite harsh- It's fitting."
She dug her clawed fingers into his side. "Louse!"
She evoked a moan with the squeeze but it gave way to a giggle. "You're more bug than me I believe."
She didn't care for his humor but his attitude was enduring considering his otherwise grave state and she'd be lying if his smile wasn't a little infectious.
***
Her personal chamber was webbed all over. An aged dining table would do as an improvised operating bed. The lantern adhered to a patch of webbing above the operating table. She could see in the dark well enough so the light was more for his comfort rather than any medical necessity.
He was a mess and every well-meaning attempt to sew his internal parts was met with squirming and wincing. He'd bleed out before she had a chance to fix him properly.
"Stay still!"
His breathing was labored "Just leave it, I'm…" he shivered "…sorry for the trouble."
A desperate measure was necessary. She leaned in close and caressed his cheek with a delicate touch.
"Hush now!"
He writhed spoke with interspersed gasps "It's okay, you tried. I've gone longer than I should have. Just let me rest…"
Genuine compassion showed on her face. "Don't give up hope just yet." What could have been mistaken for the start of a kiss turned into an injection. She plunged her fangs into his jugular and delivered a dose of a toxin to subdue him. Too much and he'd never wake up, too little and she'd only bolster his suffering.
He squirmed for a moment and then lay very still. He continued to draw breath so she hadn't arrested his heart thankfully. She began the arduous task of sewing his innards and packing them back inside before closing the jagged gash in his abdomen. Blood dribbled all over throughout the effort. Her mind was taken aback by the crimson wash. He's a goner She thought as a grimace twisted her face. Still, she had to try.

A coldness traveled up and around his circulatory systems after she bit him. Every nerve ending that the toxin reached became numb. He couldn't move and worse than that he couldn't feel any part of himself. A sensation of floating took over and his mind grappled with what exactly was going on. His vision blurred while Involuntary actions still cooked off with breathing filling his blood with oxygen and said blood being pumped through a heartbeat that was hidden from him. Darkness wrapped the corners of his vision and the lantern's light grew dimmer. Death, he felt, was almost assured at this point. The coldness originally spread by the toxin consumed him and the fear grew. Was he actually dying? Perhaps Gale had surrendered to more carnal urges and was now devouring him in some macabre fashion that he was fortunate enough to miss courtesy of her anesthesia. That's it then.
~
She wiped her brow before inspecting her handiwork. It wasn't exactly pretty and even after he achieved a full recovery his days of soldiering would be behind him. She was far more capable when it came to killing so playing the role of a doctor was a novel exercise. She pulled a weby blanket over him and combed her fingers through his hair. His eyes had wandered earlier as she'd worked but he hadn't uttered a word during the operation thanks to the toxin. Those eyes were now shut and his soft breaths were slightly audible if only just. She'd stay close to him until he awoke. Not that she liked him or anything, she merely needed to ensure he didn't depart without her knowing. A keen sense of sound and temperature kept her clued into his vitals. These traits, while typically reserved for hunting prey would be equally useful in this situation. She rested her head along his chest and listened to the subtle drumming while her fingers had intermingled with his atop the covers. The rhythm was soothing and before long she joined him in slumber.
***
Death obstructed, the knight found himself painfully awake. The internal ravaging yet healed, pain radiated from his abdomen and nausea gripped his being. The memories of what transpired a day prior came back. the fallen kingdom, a fallen king, a fallen knight and then the cave.
Gale
She'd awoken at his shifting as he grew cognizant.
She greeted him nervously "Good morning?"
One couldn't tell time in the cave. Moreover, all the aches and discomfort that waited kindly for him yesterday showed no remorse now "Is it?" He struggled to right himself and she helped him sit up.
"Are you well?"
He held his face to hide his anguish "Hardly."
"Then you may stay until you are."
"Free of charge? I'll have you know I'm indigent save the clothes on my back. I would hate to impose." He breathing was rough.
She crossed her arms and growled at him "You're not. Given your cordial nature I'd expect you want to repay my kindness in turn, but don't worry yourself over such things."
Over the next day, she attended to him as well as the day after that. He learned of her solitary lifestyle to remain safe. She learned of his stoic nature and oath to fealty. He was a lighthearted sort so his recent hardships wounded him in a way she could only see in his eyes. He dare not reveal the depth of his depression. In that way, a feeling of commonality grew between them. Sad isolations of different sorts but isolations that were also a means of understanding between them in a way only they could explain.

"Thanks again."
Cutlass had finished adjusting his armor.
"You're going to leave like that?!"
"When I first arrived you were adamant to see me go."
"That was- You've barely been up and walking for a few days. You need further rest!"
He smiled "I could use something to eat."
"Then I'll bring you some lunch. You should eat before setting off at least!"
His recovery was amazing. He really was the stoutest of men. As for foodstuffs, traders who frequented the area would exchange all manner of goods for spools of her silk. These lucrative exchanges allowed for many niceties like the dress she sported and the biscuits she brandished. She laid the spread out on the one time operating table. The blanket now worked as a table cloth to hide the previous night's more gory interlude. They enjoyed the biscuits and indulged in frivolities.
"For one who stays to the shadows you do quite well for yourself."
"Should I live in squalor instead?" she glared.
He shook his head nervously "I didn't mean…that is to say, I'm impressed at your resourcefulness."
"My kind is a solitary lot. Those who fail to fend for themselves don't last long."
"I'm glad I found myself in your cave at my twilight hours. Yours was the kindest hospitality I've known." He took her hand and squeezed it.
The forwardness gave her a start and she struggled to find the words. "I still think you should stay a while longer."
As she said this the lantern started to dim. He glanced up at the faltering light. "Looks like it's time for me to get going."
She shook her head "Cutlass, you could at least consider my proposition." As she rose to fetch some more oil for the lantern she found his hand was locked on hers. His expression was more solemn than before "I really have to leave Gale."
The lantern continued to dim. As it grew darker she felt herself wanting to speak but the words didn't come. She tried to free herself from his grip but it seemed stronger than any force she'd ever encountered.
He shut his eyes and spoke tenderly "Take care."
***
It was dark. Dreadfully dark. Her eyes could see as well as ever but Cutlass would surely be blind in such cryptic conditions. In a drowsy state, her mind took a moment to piece things together. A hand held hers, not through any natural inclination but a cold stiffness…
Panic.
That grip bore a dreadful truth that her mind vehemently denied. She froze, daring not move, locking her eyes closed hoping she'd stumbled into a nightmare. She lay there motionless gritting her teeth for a time. The evidence she didn't want to acknowledge invaded her senses. She pressed her head close to his chest now hoping to hear the faintest murmur or detect some latent warmth that she'd missed. A painful groan escaped her throat as the realization finally manifested. She extracted her hand from his post mortem grip and pressed her face into the woven cushion that was his gambeson. She wiped her now tear stained cheeks on the cushy under armor.
She pulled him close for an embrace and rocked his limp body in her arms.
Alone again…
As she pouted she pondered whether that dream was some otherworldly last goodbye or some flight of fancy her mind conjured to give her some solace for the impending grief she'd wake up to. Who could say?

I appreciate alliteration, but you don't always make use of appropriate adjectives. It doesn't make sense, for example, for a defensive posture to be deafened, to mend a mire, or for actions to cook off. Technical or modern terminology such as "circulatory system", "hemoglobin", "oxygen", etc. are also disjoint with the medieval setting. Overall, the language comes across as somewhat stilted.
>formatting
You should be more sparing with the bolding and italicization. Most of the places in which they're used are already emphasized by spacing or pacing. You do make good use of spoiler text to coincide with a return to darkness and Gale's simultaneous unwillingness to see the facts of her situation.

The story as a whole would be more impactful if it were told only from Gale's point of view. Cutlass' POV being used in the dream sequence clearly indicates that he is not therein a figment of Gale's imagination. Although the final line of questioning if perfectly valid from Gale's perspective, it's undercut for the reader.
>Not that she liked him or anything
b-baka
>You've barely been up and walking for a few days.
>The blanket now worked as a table cloth to hide the previous night's more gory interlude.
This reads more like a continuity error or awkward phrasing than foreshadowing.

>language
It probably needed more time in the oven so to speak but I'd already been sitting on it for a while. I like to experiment with word combinations. I won't say everything I write is right but I hope that it's different.
>formatting
I would hate to say I don't actually know what I'm doing but that's probably the case for a lot of my work. I'm still feeling my way through for most things. I'm my own editor and I'm no editor.
>PoV
Interesting, first draft of the story had the dream from Gale's perspective but I felt like the foreshadowing was too obvious and I needed to do more to obscure that it was a dream as well pad out the reading a little since it only took a handful of words to reach the gut punch ending and It didn't resonate well enough for me. Originally the dream started with him putting on the armor to give you an idea of how short that was.
>continuity error
That crossed my mind but I thought it was more open to interpretation. In the first draft, it was originally THE previous night. I'm not a stickler for grammar but are you saying it should be nights' with the apostrophe after the s?
I appreciate the honest criticism.

>PoV
The dream sequence would have been too short if it started with Cutlass putting on his armor, but most of the content in the Cutlass PoV part of the dream could just as easily have been from Gale's PoV, which would have lead to a stronger conclusion. Gale's thoughts at the end would also have hit harder if instead of starting with Cutlass' PoV, we started with Gale's describing her isolation and how the war affected her. Cutlass could then describe to Gale, perhaps during surgery, how he lost everything, and they could bond over their mutual isolation before the inevitable end.
>continuity error
"Nights'" would suggest that several previous nights were gory, which wouldn't be right. "The previous night's" is technically correct since it was an earlier night in and out of the dream. It just seems like a continuity error instead of foreshadowing because absent qualification "previous" typically indicates something immediately prior to the noun it's modifying. Since it doesn't make sense to say a cloth hid an interlude anyway, I'd change
>She laid the spread out on the one time operating table. The blanket now worked as a table cloth to hide the previous night's more gory interlude.
to something like
>She set the food where he laid in death's embrace, all evidence of his once mortal peril hidden beneath her silken blanket.

>Have a notorious problem with mosquitoes flying into my room from the window
>After years of dealing with them myself, I notice a spider setting up shop outside my window
Took you a fucking while to show up. The Long Legs were here from day one.
>Notice a mosquito flying in one night
>Check up on the spider
>It's dangling by its fancy threads, sleeping
One more strike and you're getting the pink slip, you amateur.
