What does this board think about the Most Serene Republic of Venice, and the golden age it ushered in that lasted for more than a thousand years? Does this board like the idea of an aristocratic republic, not a monarchy but a republic ruled by elites and powerful families?

The crypto-modernists here that just fetishize absolutism never heard of it and think no republics existed before 1792

Roman Empire > Roman Republic
And the Serene Republic of Venice was unlike a modern republic. Even Romans had strong emphasis on patriarchs. When people peddle with the idea of a "republic" they generally don't think of anything like this. They think of a completely artificial and ideological republican model.

Venice was racially homogeneous, small, and geographically secure. It also still restriced voting and rulership to those of the proper bloodlines.

Reminder that the republican city states of Italy were responsible for sack of Constantinople in 1204 and the black plague spreading as much as it did in the 14th century.

Venice wasn't an aristocratic republic. You're thinking of republican Rome.
I actually hold the latter as a good form of government. There is only the problem that it requires many men to be great and honest, and even the plebeians require a certain level of quality for it to work. Modern man has simply fallen too far for it to even have a hope of working, and that was already true two thousand years ago. I can recommend De Re Publica if you want to dream of better times though.
As for Venice, it was a merchant republic, and as such much more modern than any other state, in the sense that it was utterly devoid of actual principles and honor. Just look at their actions that directly caused the fall of Constantinople and the overrunning of half of Europe by the mohammedan menace.

Do you think the least dysfunctional and long-lasting societies that are bigger than 200 aren't racially homogeneous with solid religion that maintains cohesion?
