It's actually a mega drive port of the first three games.
Yes. Most are pretty subtle, but you'll definitely notice. Most notably, the game limits your shooting rate, so you can't rapid fire regardless of the amount of plasma shots on screen. Also, bosses don't have secondary weaknesses unlike the original.
Aside from the improved graphics and music, the only real advantage over the originals is the extra stages you get after beating the three games.
