Found out after it was delivered to me yesterday. I didn't realise until after I signed for it that there was a cut at the bottom of the parcel. Sure enough, the phone was missing. The presence of some accessories in the parcel didn't immediately alert me to the fact that the main thing wasn't there.
I contacted the phone retailer immediately who then contacted the courier. They're on the case, and I guess that's all I can do for now.

It worries me that you signed for it. Does the delivery come with the option to check the parcel before you buy? I remember when I was opening the Miku phone at the courier's office I was thinking I should just sign and check it at home, but I'm just too trustful. The kind of signature that they have me place is also accompanied with a statement that everything was in order, so I decided to open it and turn it on. The guy there also liked the phone and was curious how much RAM it had. I was very slow and careful in opening it so my 15 minutes almost ran out until I unpackaged all the layers of bubble wrap, but I managed to make do, turn it on and put everything back together. It's because of the kind of signature that puts them out of responsibility that worries me they wouldn't help in a situation like yours. The delivery usually comes with insurance in the event that anything happens during delivery, but I assume that is waved the moment I sign that everything was fine.

That's what's bothering me too. If I had checked it properly before signing, I could have saved myself quite a headache. In any case, they said they'll investigate, and the phone company seems good too. I'll trust them for now, but you can bet I'll put up a fight if things turn sour when they get back to me.

If they don't let you check the parcel then I assume they wouldn't have the same kind of advantage to just say "Well you signed that it came in order, if it's missing now, you just stole it. I've opened the parcel - there's no way of knowing what's inside without doing that - but I haven't opened any of the items that were in there. They're still sealed and I've put them aside until this matter is sorted out. By doing that, I've signalled non-acceptance of the product, and I can still return it under the terms from the seller. They're sorting out what to do since an item went missing during the delivery itself, but I hope they'll just send a replacement. They should be insured for this since it happens just often enough for it to be a concern.
I won't allow them to say that I waived any rights by signing for it. I'm pretty sure that you aren't allowed to get away with that here, and I can substantiate my claim with the fact that I called immediately to register my complaint. I didn't wait a day, or even an hour. I called them immediately, and that weighs heavily in my favour.

Yes, I figured you were referring to the accessories only after I posted. You are right, in this case the best would be a replacement and them to then sort it out with the courier, since I doubt the phone will be found, they only need to sort out who will pay for the damages and in no way that should be you. Even if it was found, you shouldn't have to deal with it and use a phone that wasn't brand new for any reason.
Usually they aren't allowed to get away with it here either, but it depends if the seller has a contract with the courier to use their services. In my case with the phone, the seller uses the courier just randomly, so the terms for insurances and stuff are like between two private parties. Like if my grandma were to send it to me. As in, the courier just delivers and as soon as I sign, everything is a problem between me and the seller and my warranty. This is because the seller in question was a small business and not a big retailer.
I am too trusting of retailers and couriers here because I would imagine no one would risk their job for a phone. A situation like this only cakes me imagine they employed some random lowlife for a summer job that thought they could get away with it. Or the courier employs unsavory individuals to pay them next to nothing and then they feel justified in stealing.
I think things will get sorted out for you, hopefully by tomorrow. It's the only way a reputable seller with a courier they have official relations with should handle it.

My understanding of the relationship between the seller and courier is that the seller uses that courier exclusively, and so I figure they have agreements and insurances in place for these situations.
It's been a long time since I had to worry about couriers stealing shit. I haven't had it happen to me for like 10 years, and the courier in this instance has never been problematic for me. But you're right, and since the warehouse is near me, they must be hiring staff from the people in my local area, which is well known as being a shithole.
They said 3-5 working days, but I really hope it is as soon as tomorrow. I guess it depends on how rigorous their investigation is.
Anyway, I'm gonna take off to get some drinks. I'll see you guys later!
