Friday’s sham elections for Iran’s Parliament and Assembly of Experts sent a shot heard ’round the world, with voters staying home in record numbers in defiance of the regime’s calls to vote.

Four days later, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei addressed the issue: “For about a year . . . enemies of the Islamic Republic had been attempting around the world to dissuade people from [voting in] the elections.”

Yet, he said, Iranians performed a “jihad” and did a “great and epic” job by going to the polls and countering the hostile plots.

Ha! Just the opposite happened. And everyone knows it.

Clearly, the regime was shocked by the extent of the boycott.

They never expected turnout to be so low — and so humiliating — after Khamenei’s repeated calls to vote.

Especially in light of the 2022 nationwide uprising, the outcome was exactly what Khamenei sought to avoid.

“If the elections are held poorly, everyone [the system] will lose,” he’d warned in one of several public speeches urging participation.

Yet despite the regime’s rigging and inflating of the numbers, the world saw the empty voting stations.

Even state-run media and officials close to Khamenei had to concede the disaster.

The rival faction also highlighted the people’s lack of participation.

Per the Interior Ministry, the first-place candidate in Tehran received only 7.7% of eligible votes, about half of what the first-place candidate in 2020 got.

The situation in other cities was no better.

On Sunday, the Bahar News reported: “In Shiraz, with 1,390,000 eligible voters, the first-place candidate received 78,000 votes. In other words, nearly 95% of the people did not vote for the first-place candidate!”

Farhikhtegan Daily, which is affiliated with Khamenei adviser Ali Akbar Velayati, emphasized three points:

First: The “lowest electoral participation in the history of the Islamic Republic” is proof the system faces a “legitimacy crisis.”

Second: Iranians are suffering “the most” political, economic and cultural discontent possible.

Third: The nationwide uprisings of 2019 and 2022, which were “opened in the street,” have “never been closed in the political square,” and the call “to boycott the elections had found its meaningful place in time.”

Former parliamentary security committee head Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh declared bluntly, “The election result is a failure, not a victory,” the government-run Setareh Sobh reported.

“Throughout the history of the revolution,” he added, “all executive and political capacities were never used to this extent. . . . Everything from requests and wishes to threats were used to get the people to vote.”

Iran’s main opposition movement in the country, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran, which monitored nearly 2,000 polling stations, reported that only 8.2% of the more than 61 million eligible voters participated.

Everything the regime did, from cheating to threats and incentives, backfired.

Just as Khamenei had feared, the nationwide boycott sounded alarm bells for the regime’s downfall.

The mullahs now confront a nation empowered by its show of unity in rejecting the regime, despite its repression and intimidation.

During the election campaign, the Resistance Units, which had been very active during the uprisings since 2017, replaced regime-propaganda signs with posters and writings on the wall that read: “My Vote is Regime Change.”

That’s precisely how the people voted, in effect, by boycotting the elections.

What’s ahead? More protests and uprisings.

The election is an opportunity for the international community to reevaluate its policies toward Iran.

Iranians have spoken, loud and clear.

They are more determined to overthrow the regime than ever, and the world needs to stand on their side.

It must hold the regime accountable for its crimes against humanity, terrorism, regional warmongering and mayhem, and its mad dash toward nuclear weapons.

The people of Iran and their Resistance have demonstrated their capability and determination to change the regime.

The international community should recognize their right to do so as they strive for an Iranian republic that is free and democratic and that separates religion from state.

Now is the time to listen to the Iranian voices and act.

Americans are losing interest in cardio equipment — and that's causing fitness companies to sweat.

Why it matters: The home fitness industry was already reeling from slumping sales when exercisers returned to the gym after pandemic shutdowns — and now comes a shift in how people want to work out.

Driving the news: BowFlex filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Monday amid plummeting sales.

Johnson Health Tech Retail — which sells the Horizon Fitness, Vision Fitness and Matrix brands — was named as the leading bidder to acquire BowFlex with an offer of $37.5 million.

The big picture: Companies that bet big on the home fitness boom — like BowFlex, whose brands include Nautilus and Schwinn — are taking on water.

BowFlex's sales plunged 24.8% in the six-month period ended Sept. 30, compared with a year earlier, "driven primarily by lower customer demand," the company said.

Peloton's stock is hovering near its all-time low as the stationary bike company struggles to reverse its own sales decline.

The intrigue: But it's not just an issue of too much supply. Interest in cardio equipment is fading, and that's a problem for companies that rely on people working up a sweat.

"People are more interested in weights now than they were years ago and less interested in cardio," Planet Fitness interim CEO Craig Benson said in January at an industry conference.

BowFlex gets more than 46% of its revenue from cardio products, which experienced a 28.5% drop in direct-to-consumer sales for the last nine months of 2023, compared to the same period a year earlier.

Strength equipment product direct sales, meanwhile, grew 7.4% in the period, primarily driven by higher demand for home gyms.

Long term, people are expected to keep reaching for the weights.

The global market for strength training equipment is projected to grow at a 3.5% compound annual growth rate through 2032, outpacing 1.3% growth forecast for the wider global fitness equipment industry, according to Precedence Research, a market insights firm.

What they're saying: It's a generational thing.

Younger exercisers are more interested in weights and stretching, Benson says, which is causing Planet Fitness to dedicate extra space to those activities.

"We never had dedicated stretching" areas, he said.

Inside the room: BowFlex, whose corporate name was Nautilus until late 2023, has been seeking "strategic partnerships and sources of capital infusion" since summer 2021, according to a bankruptcy filing.

But the efforts failed to gain traction as the Vancouver, Washingt0n-based company is grappling with a glut of exercise equipment on the market following a short-lived spike in sales early in the pandemic.

"The marketplace is now saturated with product offerings from a number of sellers and retailers," CFO Aina Konold said in a court filing. "The Company's retailers continue to work through their existing inventory and have not reordered as expected."

The bottom line: "Fitness changes, trends change," Benson said. "So we need to reflect that."

“Steve Nikoui!” other Gold Star families who attended the speech cheered as the man himself strutted into the Dubliner Restaurant blocks away from the US Capitol, following his release from the custody of the House Sergeant at Arms, according to footage shared on X by Spectator journalist Matthew Foldi.

Gold Star father Darin Hoover told The Post in a phone interview on Friday that Nikoui had to pay $50 to get bailed out of the Capitol Police station and is facing “a fine of $500 or 90 days in jail or both” in an upcoming court date.

“He was taken out in handcuffs,” Hoover said. “And so we all sat there and waited and waited and waited — and gave him a hero’s welcome when he came in.”

“If you know Steve, he’s a very Christian man,” he added, mentioning that Nikoui had his Bible with him when he was arrested. “He’d been thinking about it, and it’s been bugging him for a while because we haven’t gotten any of those answers … still nothing two and a half years later.”

House Republicans who invited the relatives of the fallen troops immediately called on local authorities to drop charges, with Rep. Mike Waltz (R-Fla.) offering to pay any related fines.

“We’re going to make you a shirt that says, ‘Jesus spoke to me, and I got arrested,’” said Alicia Lopez, the mother of Marine Cpl. Hunter Lopez, another victim of the bombing.

“Convict! Let’s just call him convict from now on,” joked Cheryl Juel, the aunt of Marine Sgt. Nicole Gee.

It’s unclear whether Nikoui believed his outburst toward Biden, 81, in the middle of the State of the Union was a kind of divine intervention.

“Your pastor is calling too,” added Coral Brisneo, the mother of Marine Cpl. Humberto Sanchez.

Rep. Brian Mast (R-Fla.) invited Nikoui to the speech and later secured his release after the father was arrested for erupting at the commander-in-chief in the middle of his address to Congress.

Capitol Police immediately arrested Nikoui for crowding, obstructing, or incommoding, a misdemeanor that typically results in the offender’s release after paying a $50 fine.

Neither the Sergeant at Arms nor Capitol Police immediately responded to a request for comment.

“Mr. Nikoui lost his son due to Joe Biden’s incompetence, and lost another son to grief over his brother being killed,” Mast told The Post in a statement, referring to Dakota Halverson, who committed suicide on Aug. 9, 2022.

“This man and his family have given America more than I could personally bear and to attack him with a BS charge of ‘demonstrating’ is a disgrace.”

Hoover and Schmitz told The Post in an interview before Biden’s speech that the president should expect “a lot of heckling” for the hasty military withdrawal, which also left hundreds of US citizens behind.

“There’s been other people that have confirmed that information that Biden knew — damn good and well — that Afghanistan was going to fall,” Schmitz said, calling the pullout “a totally epic screw-up.”

Neither the president nor his administration have accepted full responsibility for the disaster, both said.

“He didn’t care. And he left all the munitions behind at Bagram [Airfield],” Schimtz added, referring to $7 billion worth of US military equipment that the Taliban seized after ascending to power.

Biden’s approval rating has remained underwater since August 2021, when the last US flights departed Kabul.

The Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction found in a February 2023 report that the Biden administration’s “abrupt and uncoordinated” gave locals the impression the US “was simply handing Afghanistan over to a Taliban government-in-waiting.”

A State Department report in June of that year revealed that the administration also failed to take seriously the concerns of the Afghan government at the time amid warnings that Kabul would fall if American troops left.

Biden expressed to administration officials in the aftermath that he “didn’t believe anyone had made a mistake,” according to Politico reporter Alexander Ward’s book “The Internationalists: The Fight to Restore Foreign Policy After Trump.”

Here we go again.

Embattled Alaska Airlines is at the center of a second aviation drama after a plane arrived at an airport gate in Portland, Ore. last Friday with its cargo door open.

The cargo hold was stowing passenger’s pets, according to local TV station KOIN, although none of the animals were injured. The plane had flown in from Los Cabos, Mexico.

Alaska Airlines told KOIN in a statement that “there was no indication to the crew that the door was unsealed during [last Friday’s] flight and all indications point to the door partially opening after landing.”

“Our maintenance teams inspected the aircraft, replaced a spring in the door, tested the door and reentered it into service,” the Alaska Airlines statement concluded.

The Post reached out to Alaska Airlines for comment.

While the company appeared to downplay any issues, aviation expert Joe Schwieterman told KOIN that a cargo door opening up on its own as “a pretty major defect.”

“It affects a lot of the electrical equipment in that cargo hold. So, it is troublesome that you may have a plane where some things like this went undetected,” he said.

Both Boeing and Alaska Airlines are already amid a $1B lawsuit over plane safety. The chair of the National Transportation Safety Board also warned that the January incident could be repeated.

That aircraft was a Boeing 737 MAX 8.

Meanwhile on Friday, a Boeing 737 MAX 9 rolled off a runway at Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport, forcing all passengers to evacuate.

The United Airlines flight had been scheduled to fly to Memphis, Tenn.

A 52-year-old Florida man thought to be suffering from severe migraines was actually battling a bizarre tapeworm infestation in his brain — caused by eating undercooked bacon.

The unnamed patient, whose tale of medical woe recently wriggled its way into the American Journal of Case Reports, had been complaining of week-long, aggressive headaches over a four-month period after consuming the pesky pork product.

Experts said the individual’s “lifelong preference for soft bacon” wasn’t the sole cause of the specific, bizarre ailment — but rather that the breakfast favorite had gone bad, with undercooking leaving the man exceptionally vulnerable.

The perfect storm situation led to a case of neurocysticercosis — the scientific term for a parasite laying eggs that infect numerous regions of the body.

Even more disgusting — neurocysticercosis can be contagious.

He was treated with the deworming drug albendazole, which led to improvements after two weeks.

Because four in five cases involve a seizure, clinicians are being warned to “retain a high index of suspicion and obtain thorough histories in patients with changes in migraine pattern.”

Alfredo Troche, 53 told The Post that when he saw two men threatening a woman with a box cutter at the Pelham Parkway Nos. 2 and 5 train station in Allerton around 12:50 a.m. Thursday, his military training compelled him to step in.

Troche – who on Friday wore a leather motorcycle vest with a Batman logo on the back and a Batman patch – said he was returning to the Bronx after visiting his dad in Williamsburg, Brooklyn when he walked right into the startling scene.

“I was coming up the steps on Pelham Parkway and I see a lady screaming, it could be my grandmother,” Troche said as he stood in front of Full Moon Pizza on Arthur Avenue in the Little Italy section of the Bronx, near his home. “I see two shadows, I see a box cutter, and I’m thinking, ‘Oh, I get the adrenaline, Marine Corps.’ They were going to assault the lady. It could have been my grandmother, it could have been you, it could have been him, your mother.”

“She was screaming,” said Troche who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, and said his “code name” is Batman.

Troche – who was born in Puerto Rico, grew up in Brooklyn and had been living in the Bronx for six years – was stabbed in the hand, the inner elbow and on the leg during the scuffle, he said.

Troche said he called the police in the moments after the attack.

“They didn’t come, so I kept on going and I fell down in the Bronx Zoo, [and] at a bus stop I called the ambulance,” he said.

He was taken to Montefiore Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition, but said he remained there for eight hours.

The elderly woman, meanwhile, reached out to Troche in the aftermath of the terrifying encounter, and told him, “Thank you for your service,” he said.

Troche – who is currently doing odd jobs around the neighborhood and trying to get his disability benefits due to a back injury – said he is pleased with the new move to surge National Guard troops into the city’s subway system, but thinks the Guardsmen should cover more ground.

“All five boroughs, not only Manhattan, everywhere,” Troche said. “You need to deploy, not only in Times Square, all five boroughs.”

“The point is, they need to deploy,” he added. “Tell the mayor to deploy. The governor too. If not, the vigilantes will come out. If they don’t do nothing, we’re going to do something. I’m tired. We’re on the street, we’re going to work, going to school…when is it going to stop?”

“The point is, we have to protect our society,” the veteran said.

Troche – who was born in Puerto Rico, grew up in Brooklyn and had been living in the Bronx for six years – said he thinks crime is now a bigger concern than in the past, and slammed the state bail reform laws enacted in 2020.

“It’s never been like this,” he said. “You tell the DA, if you get locked up for a violent crime, no bail.”

No arrests had been made in connection to the stabbing by Friday afternoon, the NYPD said.

The sound of banging coming from a locked shipping container led Florida police to a missing woman who purportedly had been trapped inside the steel box for three days.

Marlene Lopez, 52, appeared disoriented and unable to explain what happened to her when she emerged from a red metal container used to store lawnmowers in Cocoa around noon on Thursday.

“I was in one place and found in another,” a disheveled Lopez, clad in a leather biker jacket and tights, mumbled while walking to an ambulance to be taken to a hospital for a checkup, according to Fox 35.

The owner of the shipping container told News 6 he found a lighter and pipe inside after Lopez was rescued.

Lopez was reported missing on Wednesday after a coworker called the police to raise concerns about her well-being because she had failed to pick up her son — but the woman had not been seen since Monday, the Cocoa Police Department said in a Facebook post.

While detectives were interviewing Lopez’s family members and checking locations she was known to visit, they learned that she had been found.

“She had been banging on the door of the shipping container when someone heard her and unlocked the door,” cops said.

Lopez was uninjured but was hospitalized for an evaluation and possible dehydration.

Tyler Sonneberg, a Cocoa businessman who owns the shipping container that housed Lopez for three days, said he first spotted the woman walking around the area on Monday night.

He said that he locked the container on Tuesday afternoon and did not hear any sounds coming from within the next day.

Sonneberg said he believes Lopez may have wandered inside the container and passed out.

After spending tens of millions of dollars funding dodgy efforts to determine if little green men have visited Earth, the US government has formally acknowledged its multi-decade mission to boldly go where no man has gone before has been a bust.

A bombshell Pentagon review released Friday confirms The Post’s exclusive reporting from last year that the Pentagon had developed a distracting and ultimately pointless fixation on chasing UFOs.

The Pentagon report examined all US government investigatory activity of “Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena” (formerly known as UFOs) since 1945, concluding that neither aliens nor their technology, have ever visited Earth.

The report, which the Defense Department’s All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) conducted on the orders of Congress, reviewed both classified and unclassified government archives.

Among its conclusions was the revelation that “no evidence that any [US government] investigation, academic-sponsored research, or official review panel has confirmed that any sighting of a UAP represented extraterrestrial technology.”

As for documented sightings of unexplained airborne objects making strange, otherworldly maneuvers in the sky — which have increased in frequency in the social media age — the report chalked them up to “ordinary objects and phenomena” and the result of “misidentification.”

These assertions were echoed by Pentagon Press Secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder in a statement following the release of the report.

“AARO has found no verifiable evidence for claims that the U.S. government and private companies have access to or have been reverse-engineering extraterrestrial technology,” he wrote.

The Pentagon noted that Americans’ obsession with flying saucers and government conspiracies to cover them up began in the 1950s, driven in part by public knowledge of classified government programs like the Manhattan Project.

But as The Post reported exclusively last year, the Pentagon’s own fixation with finding moon men started in 2008.

That’s when, at the behest of former Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) the Pentagon’s Defense Intelligence Agency created a $22 million program called the Advanced Aerospace Weapon Systems Application Program or AAWSAP.

The multimillion-dollar contract was awarded to longtime Reid friend Robert Bigelow and his company Bigelow Aerospace Advanced Space Studies (BAASS).

The stated purpose of the AAWSAP was to research and predict future aerospace technology trends.

But BAASS, made up of ghost hunters and psychics, soon went off the rails – using taxpayer funds to chase UFOs — and even ghosts and werewolves — at Skinwalker Ranch in Utah.

After finding out about the program’s unsanctioned paranormal activities, the Pentagon pulled the program’s funding and shut it down in 2012.

In December 2017, The New York Times published a now-infamous story about this program, but without any mention of AAWSAP and its paranormal adventures. Instead, it detailed the claims of Pentagon official Lue Elizondo, who said UFOs were real and the Pentagon wasn’t taking them seriously.

Two days after the article was published, Elizondo went on CNN and said the program had studied “anomalous” crafts that were “defying the laws of aerodynamics.”

He ended the interview with the ominous announcement, “We may not be alone.”

Today’s Pentagon report vindicates The Post’s previous reporting that despite Elizondo’s statement, there were no spacemen on Earth.

The Pentagon report examined all US government investigatory activity of “Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena” (formerly known as UFOs) since 1945, concluding that neither aliens, nor their technology, have ever visited Earth.

The report also throws cold water on long-held conspiracy theories alleging a cloak-and-dagger government plot to reverse-engineer alien technology recovered on Earth.

“AARO determined … that claims involving specific people, known locations, technological tests, and documents allegedly involved in or related to the reverse-engineering of extraterrestrial technology, are inaccurate,” the report states plainly.

Elizondo could not immediately be reached for comment.

In a statement posted on X, Elizondo hit out at the report, calling it “intentionally dishonest, inaccurate, and dangerously misleading.”

“I hold the Pentagon leadership and former AARO leadership accountable for this obvious attempt to diminish and embarrass whistle-blowers, to undermine the truth, and ignore the evidence,” the statement read in part.

Several countries’ delegations are heated over the decision to cut air conditioning to athletes’ lodging for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The Summer Games — which are being touted as the “greenest” ever — aim to cut emissions by more than half compared to previous years, in part by not providing air conditioning in athletes’ rooms, Euronews reported.

But another deathly hot summer is looming for the City of Light.

Last year, more than 5,000 people died in France as a result of searing summer temperatures, health officials announced in February. A recent study warned that more weeks-long heatwaves could hit the capital during the 2024 Olympics, and that the city may break all-time temperature records. The current record sits at 108 degrees.

Some teams are taking matters into their own hands.

“We appreciate the concept of not having air conditioning due to the carbon footprint [but] this is a high-performance Games,” said Australian Olympic Committee CEO Matt Carroll. “We’re not going for a picnic.”

The team has said it will spend more than $150,000 on air conditioning and fans for its athletes and even hire a “heat specialist” for the July Games.

Greece’s Olympic delegation will also bring its own portable air conditioners to the competition, Euronews reported.

“We will buy or find [ACs] from our sponsors,” Hellenic Olympic Committee President Spyros Capralos told the Greek newspaper Kathimerini.

“We want our athletes to compete in the best conditions,” Capralos said. “We spare no expense when it comes to our athletes.”

The Olympic Federation of Ireland is also reportedly planning to pay for its athletes to have AC.

Paris organizers say rental equipment including portable cooling units will be available but stand by the eco-conscious decision, saying they are “confident that the athletes and their staff will be comfortable in the village without needing A/C.”

The athletes’ village was unveiled by President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday, one day ahead of schedule.

Newly revealed photos show the dental-clinic receptionist wounded by a “disgruntled” former patient when he opened fire at her California office, killing her dentist boss, who was buried Sunday.

Office worker Yareli Carrillo, 28, who was wounded in the leg during the Thursday afternoon attack in the San Diego suburb of El Cajon, was featured smiling on her birthday in 2022 — standing next to now-slain Dr. Benjamin Harouni — in a photo on the clinic’s Instagram page.

Police have arrested Mohammed Abdulkareem, described as a onetime patient at the clinic, on one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder in the slaying, records show.

“While the exact motive behind the shooting remains under investigation, it is believed that Abdulkareem was a disgruntled former customer,” El Cajon police said in a release Friday.

Carrillo, who was first identified by Yeshiva World, was wounded along with a 40-year-old employee.

The shooting appeared to have been planned out weeks in advance, according to cops.

Records show Abdulkareem legally purchased his handgun just two weeks earlier and rented a U-Haul pickup truck one hour before allegedly gunning down his ex-dentist.

Cops said the accused killer hopped behind the wheel of the truck after the shooting and fled the scene — but not before cops got his license-plate number and broadcast it.

Shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday, an alert good Samaritan then spotted the parked truck and tipped off the cops, who moved in and picked up the suspect nearby, the department said.

Abdulkareem, 29, is being held without bail at the San Diego Central Jail, records show.

After the arrest, El Cajon Police Chief Michael Moulton said the FBI helped in tracking him down.

The Anti-Defamation League in San Diego said Friday that the victim of the shooting was a member of the Jewish community but said police have found no indication that his death was tied to antisemitism.

Smile Plus Dentistry lists Harouni as one of three doctors who work for his father Jack, who owns the office.

Harouni had celebrated his birthday just nine days before his slaying, according to a social media post.

A Texas high school teacher who had all four of her limbs amputated after they turned black and became “mummified” following a seemingly routine infection says she’s choosing to be happy, despite the horrifying ordeal.

Sherri Moody, 51, who taught students in Deer Park outside Houston, started feeling what she thought was a cold coming on during a class trip in April 2023, and paid it little mind.

But within days, she found herself running a high fever. After waking up one night with trouble breathing, she went to the hospital.

“I’ve never gone to the ER before in my life,” Sherri told Today.com. “I was very healthy, very in shape. I ate right, exercised.”

Doctors determined she was suffering from double pneumonia, which they said had been brought on by streptococcus, the bacteria that causes strep throat.

Her body had gone into septic shock, a life-threatening response to infection which severely drops the body’s blood pressure.

Sherri, the mother of a grown son, was put into a coma by doctors, who treated her with drugs that fought to return blood flow to her vital organs — at the expense of circulation in her arms and legs.

“I literally watched my wife’s feet and hands die,” David said.

Horrifying photos show just that — Sherri sitting on the edge of a hospital bed with tubes running from her body and her hands and legs hanging black and limp.

“They were black and they were mummified,” he added.

After saving her life, doctors determined Sherri’s arms and legs needed to be amputated below the elbows and knees. She told Today that she cried at first, but felt calm despite the life-changing news.

The amputations were performed in June 2023, and by August, she was back home.

David and Sherri — high school sweethearts who graduated from the same high school where Sherri taught — are adjusting to the new realities of their life together.

He left his job to care for his wife full-time.

But both have tried to choose happiness and not let the hardships define them.

“I just choose to be happy,” Sherri said. “It’s not to say that I don’t have a breakdown every now and then and just cry a little bit. I don’t let it last long.”

David remains in awe of his wife’s strength — saying he feels like he’s had a harder time coping while she remains undeterred.

“She is just amazing. I’ve had more struggles,” he told Today.

“Both of us together talk about our blessings. We talk about the things that are going right in our day, in our lives,” David added.

A criminal justice activist is facing murder charges after cops found a dismembered body inside a Bronx apartment — with the accused killer caught on surveillance video disguised in a blond wig at the scene of the crime, according to witnesses and police.

Sheldon Johnson, a 48-year-old staffer for the public law firm Queens Defenders, was led out of the 44th Precinct stationhouse in handcuffs Thursday after police made the grisly discovery — a human torso in a blue bin and a head stashed in a freezer in the sixth-floor apartment, police said.

He was held without bail at his arraignment Thursday night.

Chilling surveillance video footage obtained by The Post shows Johnson stepping off the sixth-floor elevator on Tuesday, looking around cautiously before he slowly walks to the apartment and goes inside.

He is seen wearing a dark coat over a yellow hoodie — and lugging a mop and a bag that sources said was full of cleaning supplies.

“I said, ‘Listen, I want to do a welfare check on a tenant because the person who is coming in and out is not the tenant,’” the super, who asked not to be identified, told The Post on Wednesday.

He said Johnson carried a blue bin into the apartment at 2 a.m. — and never brought it back out.

“He brought in the bin … I told them, ‘Why is he bringing in the bin at 2 o’clock in the morning? He’s bringing in a bin so late,'” the super said.

“We tried to see if he took out the bin. He never took out the bin. I told them, ‘Look for a bin.’ And sure enough, it was there.”

The super also saw the suspect leaving in the victim’s blue Audi and returning in an Uber wearing a blond wig.

“I said, ‘That’s not normal, he is hiding something.'”

He said police made an initial check on the apartment but left without busting the suspect.

“The guy stood there,” the super said.

“They took him out and everything. They looked in the apartment, but they didn’t find anything. They apologized, said somebody called, and they have to come.”

He said Johnson then asked to speak with him.

“I went back to the house and a neighbor called and said the guy is looking for me, he wants to talk to me,” he said.

“I said, ‘I’m gonna go to him, I’m gonna ask him what he wants, then tell the police what he tells me.’ That was the plan.”

But before the meeting took place, police were back and took Johnson in for questioning.

“If I’d gone, you never know what he was going to do,” the super said.

“He was gonna frame me or shoot me or offer me something to get rid of the cameras or something.”

The neighbor described him as “quiet” and a “loner.”

“You are assuming this guy has a professional career — went to work, came back, walked the dog and continued with his personal life.”

Johnson started working as a client advocate at the public defender’s office in Queens sometime after being released from prison in 2019 after serving 20 years for a series of armed robberies in 1999.

In an interview on “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast, Johnson, who claimed he used to be a member of the Bloods gang, told host Josh Dubin he was arrested and sentenced to a maximum of 50 years for using a gun to rob several men who owed him money for drugs.

But after spending some time in and out of solitary confinement, the convicted felon said, he decided to “turn his life around” and got his GED while in prison.

Johnson said he also took courses on deep breathing and conflict resolution while in the slammer.

The Queens Defenders office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Within hours of the release of a special prosecutor’s report finding he “willfully retained and disclosed classified materials” as a private citizen, President Biden rushed to the White House podium to blame his former “staff.”

Like Biden, these staffers have avoided any criminal charges. Who are they?

He said they gathered up more than 180 classified records totaling more than 600 pages and packed them into 15 boxes as Biden left the White House in January 2017.

Gatekeepers

Documents confirm that the staffers in question are Kathy S. Chung, who worked with Hunter Biden at the Commerce Department, and Anne Marie Muldoon, nee Person, who worked for him at Rosemont Seneca Partners, a key pass-through for foreign wire payments to Hunter Biden.

Chung and Muldoon were the two most important people in Joe Biden’s office suite. They were the gatekeepers who controlled the front office that adjoined his West Wing office, and they stored his classified papers in file cabinets and in his safe.

Biden trusted them implicitly since they came to him on the recommendation of his son Hunter.

In effect, it was Hunter who placed them in their sensitive posts inside the White House, where they had unfettered access to “the most highly classified, sensitive, and compartmented materials recovered during our investigation,” Hur noted in his report.

And they continued to communicate with Hunter throughout their tenure in his father’s office, assisting his foreign business schemes, according to emails obtained from his abandoned laptop and from the National Archives.

Hunter got his old Commerce colleague Chung her White House job in 2012, the year before Hunter traveled with the vice president on Air Force Two to Beijing to seal a lucrative investment deal with the Chinese. Chung booked the trip, records show.

The executive assistant post opened up in his father’s office in May 2012, and Hunter proposed his old chum take it.

He described the job as replacing the “primary gatekeeper for the VP [and the] conduit everyone goes through to get to [Joe Biden].” In addition, she’d handle “all personal stuff” for the vice president, according to Hunter’s email to Chung.

That meant, as it turned out, acting as the custodian of all of Biden’s White House records, including classified material. Chung was thrilled to be considered for the position, which required Top Secret security clearance — “Thanks for calling and thinking of me,” she emailed Hunter — and agreed to an interview.

“I just met with your Dad again and he officially offered me the job,” she gushed in a June 13, 2012, email to Hunter. “I cannot thank you enough for thinking about me and walking me thru this.”

Then in mid-2014, Hunter recommended Muldoon for the job of Chung’s assistant. At the time, she was working as Hunter’s aide at Rosemont Seneca. Her husband, Mike Muldoon, had also worked for Hunter at Rosemont Seneca years earlier.

Family business

Records show Chung and Muldoon still arranged overseas trips for Hunter Biden and his Rosemont partners while working in VP Biden’s office. They sent and received hundreds of emails with Hunter and Rosemont.

Between July 2012 (when Chung came aboard) and April 2015, the latest data available, Rosemont Seneca shows up in a whopping 921 emails generated from the vice president’s office, according to a recent partial release of Vice President Biden’s records by the National Archives concerning “Hunter Biden, James Biden and their foreign business dealings.”

The records reveal that, among other things, Chung and Muldoon fielded requests from Hunter for signed photos of Joe Biden, letters from the vice president for his associates and tickets to White House events, including several state dinners and luncheons with foreign leaders.

In September 2015, for example, Chung emailed Hunter to invite him to a lunch with Chinese President Xi Jinping hosted by Biden.

In August 2016, according to Secret Service visitor logs, Muldoon escorted into the West Wing James Bulger — nephew of the notorious Irish mobster Whitey Bulger — after Bulger and Hunter formed BHR Partners, an investment fund controlled by the state-owned Bank of China.

A month after Chung oversaw the removal of the secret vice presidential papers in 2017, Hunter Biden attempted to poach her to work for him directly.

“Come work with me,” he wrote, “so that I can make everybody money.”

At the time, Hunter was courting Chinese businessmen who ended up paying him and other Biden family members $6 million for unspecified services.

Though Chung said she was interested in Hunter’s offer, she ultimately stayed on as Joe Biden’s assistant at his new digs at the Penn Biden Center in DC, where Hunter had VIP access.

It was there that Biden’s classified docs were first “discovered” by his lawyers, who were concerned about his own liability after the Justice Department raided former President Donald Trump’s home in Florida and seized boxes of classified papers.

Cozy relationship

Chung told Hur she never noticed any classified papers among the records she packed and unpacked, before filing them in unlocked cabinets and closets in Biden’s unlocked office, according to Hur.

Just weeks before she and Muldoon boxed up Biden’s records, however, they received a Jan. 3, 2017, email from the National Security Council warning them not to pack anything classified and that “only unclassified personal records” could be removed from the White House at the end of the administration, noted Hur, who ultimately punted on indicting either of them, even for gross negligence.

A lawyer for Chung — who now serves as a top aide to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin — did not respond to requests for comment. Attempts to reach Muldoon were unsuccessful.

The issue of Hunter Biden’s cozy relationship with these aides could break into the open during Hur’s March 12 testimony on the Hill. Sources say lawmakers will press him on whether he investigated Hunter or his uncle Jim to see if either of them gained access to the stolen White House docs.

Last week, the House Oversight Committee, as part of its joint impeachment inquiry, subpoenaed the attorney general for Hur’s investigative files, including recovered classified documents about Ukraine and China.

In a statement, the panel said it is “concerned that President Biden may have retained sensitive documents related to specific countries involving his family’s foreign business dealings.”

Former President Donald Trump reportedly met with fellow billionaire Elon Musk in Palm Beach, Fla., on Sunday.

Trump crossed paths with Musk and a handful of Republican donors but is hoping to have a lengthier one-on-one meeting with the electric car and space tycoon in the future, sources told the New York Times.

Specifics of the encounter were sparse.

Trump and Musk famously butt heads in 2017, when the tech guru exited two business-related councils in protest of the then-president’s withdrawal from the Paris Climate Accords.

Musk vocally criticized some of Trump’s policies in the past. He publicly stated that he backed President Biden in 2020 over Trump and voiced support for alternatives to Trump in the 2024 Republican primary.

“I didn’t vote for Donald Trump. I actually voted for Biden. Not saying I’m a huge fan of Biden because I would think that probably would be inaccurate,” Musk told Fox News last year.

However, biographer Walter Isaacson disputed that in his book on Musk, reporting that the mogul declined to vote after “he decided that going to the polls in California, where he was then registered, was a waste of time.”

Despite clashing with Trump in the past, Musk has seemingly lurched to the right over recent years, if his frequent social media posts are any evidence.

Musk has also railed against progressive policies and has taken a particular interest in immigration.

“Ushering in vast numbers of illegals is why Secretary Mayorkas was impeached by the House. They are importing voters. This is why groups on the far left fight so hard to stop voter ID requirements, under the absurd guise of protecting the right to vote,” Musk posted on X earlier in the day Tuesday.

Musk, himself an immigrant originally from South Africa, has taken issue with the surge of illegal entries into the US.

In 2022, he shelled out a massive $44 billion to purchase Twitter, which he rebranded into X. Musk claimed the purchase was motivated by a desire to rework the microblogging platform into a bastion of free speech.

His Twitter takeover and perennial conservative-tinged social media postings have made him a darling on the political right.

Musk has also knocked some of Biden’s policies. Despite that he visited the White House in September, according to its visitor logs.

Meanwhile, Trump has been looking to court donors and bolster his war chest ahead of the expected rematch with Biden in exactly eight months.

It remains unclear whether Musk will open his coffers to Trump or back him.

Five people, including two boys, died Friday when they were crushed by an airdropped aid package that didn’t properly deploy over northern Gaza, Hamas officials and a witness said according to a report.

The package fell on three adults and two children inside the Al-Shati refugee camp around 11:30 a.m. when its parachute failed to deploy, officials from the Hamas-run Health Ministry and an eyewitness told CBS News.

Eleven others between the ages of 30 and 50 were also injured by the botched drop, the outlet reported.

The US aid packages were not involved in the fatalities and the incident is still under investigation, an official told The Post Friday evening.

The US packages contained non-pork and halal military rations, they added.

Airdropped aid packages have been criticized by international aid agencies for not being sufficient and should only be used as a “last resort” as the United Nations warns that more than half a million Gazans are “on the brink of famine,” tweeted Martin Griffiths, head of its Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

A US official told CBS News that they are aware the aid packages are not enough to lessen the humanitarian crisis, but that they affirm the world aims to help Gazans.

The US Army’s Virginia-based 7th Transportation Brigade will install the pier, officials told CBS News, adding that it’s unclear when construction will begin, but expect it to be within weeks.

The Israeli military agreed to the humanitarian pier, with Foreign Minister Lior Haiat saying it would “allow the increase of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, after security checks are carried out in accordance with Israeli standards.”

A “fully autonomous” AI robot has raised eyebrows after appearing to grope a reporter during an interview at a technology festival in Saudi Arabia.

Journalist Rawya Kassem was speaking in front of the robot, named Mohammad, when the machine seemed to move to touch her behind, a video circulating on social media shows.

Kassem, visibly startled, quickly moved away from the robot, but not before holding up her hand and motioning it to stop. She then continued on with her presentation at DeepFest, an AI event taking place in Riyadh.

Robotics firm QSS, who developed Mohammad, told Metro UK the robot is “fully autonomous” and operates “independently without direct human control.”

“We have already conducted a thorough review of the footage and the circumstances surrounding the incident and there was no deviations from the expected behavior of Mohammad, however, we will take additional measures to prevent anyone getting close to the Robot within its areas of movement,” QSS said, according to Metro UK.

A second brother of the Venezuelan migrant charged in the brutal murder of Georgia nursing student Laken Riley was arrested after crossing the border illegally last year, it has been revealed.

Argeinis Ibarra, the 24-year-old brother of accused killer Jose Ibarra, was nabbed by Border Patrol on April 30, 2023, while trying to sneak across the besieged southern border into El Paso, Texas, according to Fox 5 Atlanta.

He was apprehended with his older brother, Diego, 29, who is now known to have ties to the dangerous Tren de Aragua gang in Venezuela. The pair had previously tried to enter the United States on April 3, 2023, near Eagle Pass, Texas, but were returned by Border Patrol that same day.

Border officials quickly released Argeinis from custody with instructions to appear in court on May 4, 2023, the outlet reported. The court date was later rescheduled for 2024 in Philadelphia, where he said he had relatives and planned to live.

The middle Ibarra brother, Jose, 26, was arrested last month for allegedly kidnapping and killing Riley, a 22-year-old Augusta University junior and dean’s list student.

Her lifeless body was found on the University of Georgia’s campus after she never returned from a run, in a case that has shocked the nation.

Jose is also listed as part of the deadly Tren de Aragua gang on internal Department of Homeland Security documents seen by The Post.

The accused murderer was first arrested in El Paso, Texas for illegally crossing into the US in September 2022 with his girlfriend at the time, Layling Franco, and her 5-year-old son.

However, after less than 24 hours in custody, he was released on parole due to lack of detention capacity and told to report to authorities in October 2024, according to ICE insiders.

Jose made his way to the Big Apple, where he was arrested by the NYPD in August 2023 and charged with riding a gas-powered moped with Franco’s son on the back without any head protection or restraint for the child.

He was ultimately released by the NYPD and fled to Georgia to be with his gang-tied brother Diego, who had cut off his ankle monitor to evade authorities after being released into the country.

In September, cops arrest Diego for driving under the influence and driving without a license. Both Diego and Jose were then arrested a month later for stealing from a Walmart store.

On February 22, 2024, Riley fails to return home after going for a run near her campus.

Jose was arrested and charged a day later with concealing the death of another, false imprisonment, felony murder, malice murder, kidnapping, aggravated assault, and aggravated battery in connection with the death of Riley.

Diego was also arrested that same day after handing police a fake green card. He faces up to 10 years in prison for using a false federal ID.

Daniels (née Stephanie Gregory Clifford), who is also an adult film director and a former stripper, is the subject of a new documentary called “Stormy,” from director/producer Sarah Gibson and Erin Lee Carr (“Britney vs Spears”).

Daniels became a household name in 2018 when it was reported she had an affair with Trump in 2006 and was paid $130,000 in “hush money” in 2016 to stay quiet. Trump, who is running for a second presidential term, denied the affair happened.

Gibson told the outlet she thinks people will find Daniels relatable, despite her “unorthodox” career choices.

“Her day-to-day life, marriage, being a mom, being the breadwinner, is something a lot of people can relate to. But then, when a bomb goes off in your life, as it did with the Trump story, she was trying to just fight her way through it and keep her career.

“She had a 20-year career before the story broke and was directing between 10 and 12 films a year. She’s a very skilled filmmaker, and people just didn’t know that. They just saw this seductress or a woman who was just out for fame and money.”

The filmmaker explained that she and Daniels met in 2019.

“Then, when the Michael Avenatti trial was happening, and he was representing himself in court and asking her really awful questions on the stand, it really hurt my heart. I remembered him promoting her book, and it was shocking that he was treating her this way in court after he had obviously tried to capitalize on her,” she said, referring to Daniels’ disgraced former lawyer, who was found guilty in 2022 of stealing nearly $300,000 in book advance cash from the porn star.

“He showed absolutely no remorse, lying about me right until the end,” Daniels told The Post at the time.

“I’ll leave the sentencing to the judge but the maximum would be nice, but then again so would an apology. I am not really holding my breath for either.”

The filmmakers also praised Daniels’ “courage.”

Gibson said Daniels was jaded about a potential documentary, but she talked her around.

“She said, ‘Sarah, so many people have tried to make a documentary about me. No one will touch it because I’m a porn star and because of Trump. No mainstream outlet will give me a chance.’ And I said, ‘Well, had women ever tried? Well, give us a shot at this.’”

A homeless man on parole allegedly broke into a California woman’s home while she was sleeping and masturbated next to her.

Anthony Romero, a career criminal, allegedly barged into the victim’s 2nd Street home in Santa Monica around 2 a.m. on Feb. 29.

When the woman, who was not identified, woke up, Romero, 28, was allegedly masturbating next to her bed and touching her face, Police Lt. Erika Aklufi said, according to Santa Monica Lookout.

The horrified woman told Romero to leave and he fled before police arrived.

Officers obtained surveillance footage to identify Romero, who they found the next day around 9:30 a.m. on Santa Monica Boulevard, according to the Santa Monica Lookout.

Two Ohio women allegedly propped up a dead man in their car to withdraw hundreds of dollars from his bank account — before dropping the corpse off at a hospital.

Loreen Bea Feralo, 55, and Karen Casbohm, 63, were accused of driving the body of Douglas Layman, 80, to a bank drive-thru window in Ashtabula on Monday, according to the Star Beacon.

The women, who were not related to Layman but lived with him in the city about 50 miles from Cleveland, removed the body from his home with the help of a third person, the Smoking Gun reported.

They propped him up in the passenger seat “so that the teller could see him. … They tried to withdraw money from his account,” Police Chief Robert Stell told the Star Beacon.

“The bank had allowed this previously as long as they were accompanied by him,” he said.

After withdrawing about $900, the women drove Layman to Ashtabula County Medical Center, where they dropped off his corpse without identifying him or themselves, Stell and prosecuting attorney Cecilia Cooper said.

Police eventually located Casbohm and Feralo, who identified Douglas and said he had died at his Ashtabula home, officials said.

The two women, who have lengthy rap sheets, were charged with theft and gross abuse of a corpse, both felonies.

Feralo has been convicted of reckless assault, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal trespass, driving under the influence, theft and attempted possession of drugs, according to the Smoking Gun.

Casbohm has been convicted of theft, soliciting, criminal trespass, receiving stolen property, possession of drug paraphernalia and attempted drug abuse, according to the outlet.

Layman’s cause of death was not yet known and the bizarre incident remains under investigation.

The incident bore similarities to the 1989 dark comedy “Weekend at Bernie’s,” in which two idiots try to pretend that their slain employer in the Hamptons is still alive so they will not be suspected of killing him.

An ex-convict is trying to sell Anthony Weiner’s used prison typewriter cartridge — which he claims could contain blockbuster letters the former congressman wrote during his stay in the slammer.

Derek Thomas, 56, emailed the Daily Beast on Thursday seeking at least $4,000 for the cartridge he said Weiner used while they were both at FMC-Devens in Massachusetts, the outlet reported after turning down the offer.

“I’ve had it for so long. I’ve been making an active effort to market it. I know he was writing to everyone and anyone,” Thomas — who was released just last week — boasted.

“If you unspool it, it’s very easy to read. It’s like a scroll. It’s a Jack Kerouac novel,” he claimed.

Weiner, 59, reported to Devens in November 2017, five months after he was sentenced to 21 months for sending explicit messages to a 15-year-old.

He remained at the medium-security facility until his early release on Valentine’s Day 2019.

Thomas claimed that he used another typewriter near Weiner’s every day for a month, and that the former New York congressman offered him the cartridge when he was done with it, the Daily Beast said.

Instead of using the cartridge, however, Thomas alleged that he “sealed it in a plastic bag” for the next several years.

In his email to the outlet, Thomas suggested that the cartridge might contain some naked truths about Bill and Hillary Clinton, or Weiner’s wife, Huma Abedin.

“You’re not allowed to mail stuff out like that from the BOP. But I just got out. So I’ve been waiting for this for a long time,” he told the Daily Beast.

Weiner, however, laughed off Thomas’ suggestion.

The former golden-boy Democrat — whose promising political career fell flat following a series of sex scandals — told the Daily Beast that he had a hard time remembering Thomas, but admitted that the interaction sounded “vaguely familiar.”

“It’s conceivable that I gave it away. When you leave prison, you give away your s–t,” the one-time mayoral candidate shrugged.

“There is no Clinton stuff on that cartridge, definitely. Letters to my wife, that would be on there,” he added.

When pressed with an emailed photo of Thomas, Weiner came up short and said he “doesn’t look like anyone” he remembered from Devens, which houses about 900 inmates.

“It could be both my cartridge and also not someone I know,” the WABC77 radio host said.

“Here’s the thing. Typing cartridges were expensive and typewriters were not super available,” Weiner — known in some circles as Carlos Danger — told the Daily Beast. “You bought the cartridges at the commissary … [and] between those and packets of tuna, you would buy the tuna.”

Thomas, for his part, was a prison system veteran by the time Weiner arrived at Devens, the Daily Beast reported.

He was first arrested in March 2012 after authorities found at least 500 child porn images and videos on his computer, his criminal complaint stated.

Prosecutors in Vermont later discovered that Thomas posed online as a teenage boy in order to coerce a 12-year-old into taking sexually explicit videos in exchange for presents, a press release said.

He pleaded guilty to producing child pornography in December 2013, and was sentenced the following year.

Thomas was moved to FMC-Devens in March 2018, and he stayed there until December 2022, the Daily Beast said, citing the Bureau of Prisons.

Despite Thomas’ suggestion that the cartridge could contain scandalous information, Weiner seemed content to let it all hang out.

“I don’t know what the going price is for a used typewriter cartridge for a former elected official. I didn’t realize those ribbons would be a hot commodity,” he told the Daily Beast.

If anything, Weiner added, the cartridge might be a good opportunity to give a fellow ex-inmate a lift.

“Guy’s got to do what he has to do. People have made careers off of me. Anyway, I can help a brother out, I guess,” he said.

Former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández was convicted Friday in New York of charges that he conspired with drug traffickers and used his military and national police force to enable tons of cocaine to make it unhindered into the United States.

The jury returned its verdict at a federal court after a two week trial, which has been closely followed in his home country.

Hernández, 55, served two terms as the leader of the Central American nation of roughly 10 million people.

He was arrested at his home in Tegucigalpa, the Honduran capital, three months after leaving office in 2022 and was extradited to the U.S. in April of that year.

U.S. prosecutors accused Hernández of working with drug traffickers as long ago as 2004, saying he took millions of dollars in bribes as he rose from rural congressman to president of the National Congress and then to the country’s highest office.

Hernández acknowledged in trial testimony that drug money was paid to virtually all political parties in Honduras, but he denied accepting bribes himself.

He noted that he had visited the White House and met U.S. presidents as he cast himself as a champion in the war on drugs who worked with the U.S. to curb the flow of drugs to the U.S.

In one instance, he said, he was warned by the FBI that a drug cartel wanted to assassinate him.

He said his accusers fabricated their claims about him in bids for leniency for their crimes.

But the prosecution mocked Hernández for seemingly claiming to be the only honest politician in Honduras.

During closing arguments Wednesday, Assistant U.S. Attorney Jacob Gutwillig told the jury that a corrupt Hernández “paved a cocaine superhighway to the United States.”

Defense attorney Renato Stabile said his client “has been wrongfully charged” as he urged an acquittal.

Trial witnesses included traffickers who admitted responsibility for dozens of murders and said Hernández was an enthusiastic protector of some of the world’s most powerful cocaine dealers, including notorious Mexican drug lord Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, who is serving a life prison term in the U.S.

Hernández, wearing a suit throughout the trial, was mostly dispassionate as he testified through an interpreter, repeatedly saying “no sir” as he was asked if he ever paid bribes or promised to protect traffickers from extradition to the U.S.

His brother Juan Antonio “Tony” Hernández, a former Honduran congressman, was sentenced to life in 2021 in Manhattan federal court for his own conviction on drug charges.

Eight months after “Mr. Titanic” Paul-Henri Nargeolet died in the Titan submersible tragedy, his adult children gathered for the sad task of clearing out his belongings from his last home in Pawling, NY.

Many of his prized possessions, including some of his Titanic memorabilia and OceanGate—the company that operated the doomed sub—merchandise have been put up for sale.

The house at 1018 Route 292 is currently listed for sale for $1.7 million.

In an exclusive interview with Realtor.com®, the seafarer’s youngest daughter, Sidonie Nargeolet, 39, said that when “PH” (as everyone called him) purchased the 2.74-acre property in January 2022, he was excited to own 515 feet of sparkling lakefront on private Lake Whaley in the hamlet of Holmes.

“He’d been there to swim on the lake many times,” Sidonie says.

Being around the water was important to Paul-Henri. Not only was it his life’s work as a deep-sea diver and Titanic expert, but he and his wife, Anne Sarraz-Bournet, loved to swim.

“The lake allowed them to do that,” says Regan Andrews, co-agent of the listing with Linda Finn of Houlihan Lawrence Brewster.

A look back at Paul-Henri Nargeolet’s last home—and most treasured possessions

Paul-Henri was the director of underwater research for RMS Titanic, which owns salvage rights to the famous ocean liner’s wreckage.

Before the sudden implosion of the Titan, he had previously led 37 successful expeditions to the site, had supervised the recovery of thousands of artifacts, and was considered to have spent more time at the wreckage than anyone else.

A month after the submersible imploded upon approaching the wreckage, Sidonie first visited the lakefront house.

It was obvious why her water-loving dad had snapped up the home two years earlier for $1.5 million.

The four-bedroom, four-bath, custom-built home came with a beach, dock, shady deck, and expansive views of the lake—the largest in Dutchess County—from practically every room.

“The house is really beautiful,” she says. “It’s peaceful, and the view of the lake is amazing. And the neighborhood is pleasant.”

“Working with the Titanic was an adventure of a lifetime,” Sidonie says of her father’s lifelong passion. “Recovering artifacts is a real technological challenge. With each dive, there was always something new to discover. Exhibiting Titanic artifacts in museums was a way for him to honor the memories of the passengers, not just the ones that died but also the survivors.”

The DNA scandal that could threaten thousands of criminal cases

For nearly three decades, Yvonne “Missy” Woods was Colorado’s star forensic scientist, relied on by police and prosecutors to test DNA evidence in the state’s most baffling crimes.

Her work was considered the gold standard by colleagues and helped put away infamous murderers, including the “Colorado Hammer Killer.”

Then, in November, Woods abruptly resigned. The same day, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation said it had discovered anomalies in her work during an internal review and was launching a criminal probe.

The unfolding scandal—potentially one of the largest in the history of forensic DNA testing, according to experts—is throwing Colorado’s criminal justice system into chaos. The state said it would need to review and retest approximately 3,000 DNA samples that Woods handled. Public defenders estimate thousands of cases could be affected.

Prosecutors are bracing for numerous legal challenges from people charged or convicted based on Woods’s findings. State lawmakers recently allocated nearly $7.5 million for possible retrials and case reviews, along with the retesting.

At the center of the storm is a mystery: Was Woods just sloppy, or has she been purposefully cutting corners for decades to put people behind bars?

“This is a huge, unprecedented mess,” said George Brauchler, a former district attorney in the Denver suburbs whose office oversaw numerous cases in which Woods testified. “I want to know, what in the world did she do?”

Ryan Brackley, an attorney for Woods, said she is cooperating with the investigation.

“She continues to stand by the reliability and integrity of her work on matters that were filed in court, and particularly in cases in which she testified in court under oath,” he said.

Investigators have released few details and haven’t said what prompted the review that uncovered anomalies in Woods’s work. They also haven’t said when their probe will be complete and whether criminal charges will be filed.

But in a Dec. 5 email to district attorneys across the state, the lab director of the Colorado Bureau of Investigation said Woods had in some cases altered data and in others, analyzed samples several times but reported only one result.

As of that date, investigators hadn’t found that any DNA evidence provided by Woods was inaccurate, according to the email.

“CBI Forensic Services continues to review all cases worked by Ms. Woods during her 29-year career,” lab director Shawn West wrote. “The CBI is utilizing all available resources to expedite this process.”

Questioning murder cases

As Colorado prosecutors pore over hundreds of cases that Woods worked on and await results of the investigation, they must consider two nightmare scenarios: Whether any of Woods’s cases ended in a wrongful conviction and whether some people correctly put behind bars must now be retried because of shoddy DNA testing.

“The impact to the confidence and integrity of the justice system—and the work that is going to be required on these cases—is really significant,” said Michael Dougherty, Boulder County’s district attorney. “We will undoubtedly see defendants who’ve been convicted rightfully and justly trying to use this issue to their advantage.”

His office has identified 56 closed cases and 13 open cases in which Woods was a witness or potential witness.

One current case he must contend with is that of Garrett Coughlin, whose trial for allegedly killing three people is set for April.

In November, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation alerted prosecutors that DNA testing conducted by Woods in the case was missing data.

Coughlin’s attorney Mary Claire Mulligan said she wants to know why the problems with Woods’s DNA analysis weren’t caught earlier, a question other defense lawyers have asked as well. Standard criminal-lab protocol requires a forensic scientist’s work on each case to be reviewed by a colleague.

“The fact that this could go on for 20-some years, and not once did it get caught by peer review, this says there is something very wrong with forensic testing in Colorado,” Mulligan said.

State law-enforcement officials have said the problems are limited to Woods and aren’t laboratorywide.

But issues are popping up elsewhere in the state. On March 1, the Sheriff’s Office in Weld County, Colo., said it fired a veteran DNA analyst and will pursue criminal charges against her after anomalies in her work were discovered during the Woods investigation.

A sheriff’s spokeswoman said that while the two inquiries were separate, the state crime lab where Woods worked and the one where this DNA analyst worked have teamed up on cases.

The ‘Hammer Killer’

It was through solving cold murder cases that Woods, 60 years old, earned a reputation as a skilled criminal scientist. She was adept at finding the faintest DNA samples on old crime-scene evidence collected years before the advent of advanced forensics, including clothing and lip balm, according to court documents.

One of her most notable cases dates back to 1984, when Bruce and Debra Bennett and their 7-year-old daughter Melissa were found beaten to death with a hammer inside their Aurora, Colo., home. Another woman, Patricia Smith, was raped and fatally beaten with a hammer in her Denver suburban home around the same time.

The identity of the Hammer Killer was unknown until 2018, when Woods helped identify a suspect based on evidence extracted from the crime scenes. The DNA profile matched a man named Alex Ewing, who was already serving a decadeslong prison sentence in Nevada for attempted murder in a pair of bludgeoning attacks.

With the help of Woods’s testimony, Ewing, who pleaded not guilty, was convicted of the four killings and given four life sentences. He is appealing one of the convictions, and his attorney said the investigation into Woods bolsters their case.

“It really raises significant questions as to the reliability of the DNA evidence, which was the primary evidence that convicted my client,” said lawyer Suzan Trinh Almony. The district attorney’s office in Jefferson County, which prosecuted Ewing in the murder case that he is appealing, said it couldn’t comment because it has also been assigned to prosecute Woods if criminal charges are filed.

Brackley, Woods’s attorney, declined to comment on any specific cases, but said Woods’s work was “beyond reproach.”

‘It all made sense’

Woods has already been named in at least one lawsuit related to her work.

Days after she resigned, attorney Mark Burton filed a federal suit alleging that Woods’s faulty analysis helped put his client James Hunter behind bars.

Hunter was arrested in 2002 after a woman and her 5-year-old daughter living in a Lakewood, Colo., trailer park were sexually assaulted by a man with a sock over his face. The woman said the man’s voice sounded like Hunter.

Woods conducted a microscopic hair comparison that she said placed Hunter at the scene of the crime, according to the suit. But at the request of defense attorneys, the hairs were then tested by an outside lab, which determined they belonged to the victim.

When the error was revealed, Woods told the judge that it was a “blow to her ego,” according to the suit. The case was dismissed.

Then, 10 months later, detectives said they had located another hair. Woods tested it and found it contained DNA from Hunter. He was arrested again and eventually convicted of sexual assault and burglary. He is still in prison today.

“Once we heard about Missy Woods, it all made sense,” Burton, Hunter’s attorney, said.

Shirley MacLaine is back on the silver screen as she marks a milestone career anniversary this year.

The 89-year-old actress is starring opposite Peter Dinklage in the dark comedy “American Dreamer,” which premiered in theaters on Friday ahead of the 96th Academy Awards. Forty years ago, MacLaine won her first best actress Oscar for her performance in 1983’s “Terms of Endearment” after receiving four previous nominations.

MacLaine, who made her acting debut in 1955, recently told Extra’s Billy Bush that she still loves her profession as much as when she first started in the entertainment industry. However, MacLaine shared that Hollywood has significantly changed over the years with the advent of streaming platforms.

“The glamour’s gone out of it, I’m afraid. I think it’s entirely different,” MacLaine said. “It’s 100% different.”

Bush noted that movie stars’ privacy was more protected by studios in the Golden Age of Hollywood and asked if MacLaine was bothered by the prevalence of “prying eyes” today.

“It’s all right,” she said, “I’m kind of open anyway and I don’t have much to hide.”

“I sometimes have a lot of explaining to do,” MacLaine quipped.

In “American Dreamer,” Dinklage, 54, plays Dr. Phil Loder, a low-paid and frustrated college professor whose dream of becoming a homeowner remains out of reach. He seizes the opportunity when elderly widow Astrid Fanelli (MacLaine) offers to sell her sprawling estate “for pennies,” only to discover that the “deal is too good to be true,” per a logline for the movie.

MacLaine said she was drawn to the role of Astrid since she “liked the way she was dealing with age.”

When asked how she planned to celebrate her milestone 90th birthday in April, MacLaine, who has continued working steadily over the years, explained that she would be busy with her next project.

“I’m going to be on a set,” MacLaine said. “I’ll be in Atlantic City.”

The actress also weighed in on whether achieving the “American Dream” remains a reality for most people.

“I think that we should care more about what the American democracy means,” she responded. “We seem to have forgotten what it means, and I think it’s time we get back into the level of reality of understanding American democracy.”

Dinklage said he found the “notion” of the American Dream “fascinating.” “I think what the point of this movie, though, is: be careful what you obsess over too much because you meet somebody like Shirley and her character and it just completely upends what you’ve always thought and makes you see things a whole new way,” he said.

The “Game of Thrones” star added that he believes viewers will find “American Dreamer” to be “a fresh perspective on romance.”

Though she and Dinklage had never worked together before, MacLaine told Bush that the two “really hit it off.”

For his part, Dinklage said starring alongside the acting icon was “one of the greatest experiences of my career.”

MacLaine made her big screen debut in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1955 black comedy “The Trouble with Harry,” earning the Golden Globe Award for new star of the year – actress. She received her first Academy Award nomination for her role in Vincente Minnelli’s 1958 film “Some Came Running,” starring opposite Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin.

Following her early career success, MacLaine skyrocketed to stardom after playing elevator operator Fran Kubelik in Billy Wilder’s 1960 romantic-comedy drama “The Apartment.” She earned her second Oscar nomination for her performance and was heavily favored to win the trophy, but lost to Elizabeth Taylor.

MacLaine was nominated for her third Oscar for her portrayal of the titular prostitute in Wilder’s 1963 film “Irma la Douce.”

Though her acting career declined for a period in the early to mid 1970s, MacLaine and co-director Claudia Wells received an Academy Award nod for best documentary – feature for their 1976 film “The Other Half of the Sky: A China Memoir.”

MacLaine resurged to prominence after starring in 1977’s “The Turning Point.” The actress, who had originally aspired for a career in ballet, earned her fourth Academy Award nomination for her performance as retired ballerina DeeDee Rodgers.

In 1984, MacLaine finally took home her first best actress Oscar after starring as widow Aurora Greenway in Jim Brooks’ “Terms of Endearment.” Her fellow nominees included her co-star Debra Winger, who played her daughter Emma in the family comedy-drama.

Upon accepting her award, MacLaine joked about how long she had waited to receive the honor. “I have wondered for 26 years what this would feel like,” she said. “Thank you so much for terminating the suspense.”

During her acceptance speech, MacLaine noted that she had been looking forward to working with her co-star Jack Nicholson, quipping “to have him in bed was such middle-aged joy.”

MacLaine also remarked on her desire to work with the “turbulent brilliance of Debra Winger.” The pair, who reportedly stayed in character during the film’s entire production, had a notoriously stormy on-set relationship.

“She literally inhabited the character so thoroughly that I thought for four months I had two daughters,” MacLaine said of Winger.

“I’m not going to thank everybody I’ve ever met in my entire life – although, with the way my mind has been going lately probably everybody I’ve ever met in my entire life and in the other life I might have had had something to do with this,” MacLaine said.

She continued, “You know, if ‘Terms of Endearment’ had happened to me five years ago, I think I would have called it a thrilling, commercial, artistic accident. But I don’t believe that anymore.

“I don’t believe there’s any such thing as accident. I think that we all manifest what we want and what we need. I don’t think there’s any difference really between what you feel you have to do in your heart and success. They’re inseparable.”

MacLaine’s Oscars speech is widely considered most memorable for her closing lines. “Films and life are like clay waiting for us to mold it,” she said.

Since receiving her Oscar, MacLaine has continued to star in major feature films and television projects. She most recently appeared in two episodes of Hulu’s hit mystery comedy-drama series “Only Murders in the Building.”

MacLaine told the outlet that Parton “impressed” the most out of all her acclaimed castmates while they were filming the movie in Natchitoches, Louisiana.

“She was the only one who didn’t complain about the heat,” she recalled with a laugh. “And she was the one wearing the 10-inch heels and the waist cincher of 18 inches. And she never complained about a thing. And a wig that was huge!”

The actress played town grouch Louisa “Ouiser” Boudreaux, the best friend of Dukakis’ character Clairee Belcher. MacLaine said the late “Moonstruck” star, who died at the age of 89 in 2021, was the actress that she was “closest” to on set.

“First off, all our scenes were almost all together,” MacLaine told People. “Julia was going through what she was going through in her young life. And Dolly, I think, was writing songs up in her bedroom in her house, or something.”

Roberts, who was 23 at the time, made her career breakthrough after starring as the young diabetic Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie. Roberts earned her first Academy Award nomination for best supporting actress and won the best supporting actress Golden Globe award.

Though Roberts was a relative newcomer to the industry, MacLaine remembered that she saw the young actress’ star potential from the moment they met.

“We were rehearsing on a sound stage, I can’t remember where, and she walks in,” MacLaine recalled. “And the way she walked into the room and sat down and said hello… I got up from the table and called my agent before we even started to rehearse.”

She continued, “I said, ‘There’s a woman here and she’s going to be a huge star. You should handle her,’ I told him. She was amazing. The energy that she had just walking into the sound stage.”

A single dose of LSD can cut anxiety in half within weeks, according to the results of a new study conducted by a biopharmaceutical company.

MindMed, a clinical-stage company that develops novel products to treat brain health disorders, revealed the breakthrough findings on Friday.

MindMed declared that just 100 micrograms of MM120 — the salt form of lysergide d-tartrate, a hallucinogen commonly known as LSD — provided lasting relief to patients suffering from generalized anxiety disorder (GAD).

GAD is characterized by excessive, persistent, and unrealistic worry about everyday things resulting in fear, persistent anxiety and a constant feeling of being overwhelmed.

Approximately 10% of US adults — about 20 million people — currently suffer from the disorder.

“I’ve conducted clinical research studies in psychiatry for over two decades and have seen studies of many drugs under development for the treatment of anxiety,” Dr. David Feifel, an investigator in the study, said in a statement.

“That MM120 exhibited rapid and robust efficacy, solidly sustained for 12 weeks after a single dose, is truly remarkable.”

100 micrograms of MM120 is classified as a single dose of the drug.

Just that amount led to a 48% rate of remission from generalized anxiety disorder after 12 weeks, MindMed reported.

About 65% of patients saw improvements within three months, the company said.

“The clinical improvement for many patients was more than double what we see with today’s standard of care,” Dr. Daniel Karlin, assistant professor of psychiatry at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston and chief medical officer for MindMed, according to CNN. “This occurred at all levels of anxiety, from moderate all the way up to severe.”

The trial tested doses of 25, 50, 100 and 200 micrograms compared with a placebo without the use of psychotherapy during the session — which most research with MDMA and psilocybin has relied on.

“We’re very confident based on the results that 100 micrograms is the right dose to bring into our phase three studies, as we didn’t see any more improvement with 200 micrograms but did see additional adverse effects,” Karlin said.

Some participants did report mild to moderate symptoms of euphoric feelings, illusions and hallucinations, anxiety, abnormal thinking, headaches, dizziness, nausea, excessive sweating, vomiting, numbness or tingling of the skin, and pupil dilation on the day of the dosage.

The drug will still need to go through the standard FDA approval process and will soon enter phase III trials.

The study also found that MM120 showed “rapid and robust improvement on depression symptoms in people” as “depression and anxiety have overlapping disease definitions,” according to Karlin.

Craig McCarthy and Mayor Eric Adams’ administration issued a plea to faith leaders this week, asking them to open their doors to some of the thousands of migrants currently in the city’s care, The Post has learned.

The administration sent out a letter to religious groups across the Big Apple asking for volunteers to provide daytime respite centers for 150 migrants, in exchange for up to $54,000 a month.

It also asked if religious centers would be willing to house 19 other migrants at night, for up to $35,500, according to the letter obtained by The Post.

The first such shelter opened in Queens this week at the Rabbinical Seminary of America Yeshiva Chofetz Chaim, which will provide beds and daily meals to 15 single adults, City Hall confirmed.

The administration hopes the move will help ease the burden of housing the nearly 65,000 migrants currently in city care — with the crisis expected to cost around $10 billion through the next fiscal year.

City Hall argues the faith-based shelter system will come in much cheaper than its current emergency contracts. The average nightly cost of housing migrants came in at $383 last summer, with single adults and families scattered across the city in hotels, shelters and tent cities.

The goal is to have religious institutions provide 50 overnight shelters and five daytime centers for migrants in the coming weeks, an Adams spokesperson confirmed.

“Our response has not only required a whole-of-government effort but also included collaboration with nonprofits, community organizations, volunteers, and the faith community,” City Hall spokesperson Kayla Mamalek said when asked about the initiative.

“As Mayor Adams has said, it is not enough to be parishioners, we must also be practitioners, and congregations that participate in our faith bed program are doing just that.”

The city is willing to shell out up to $54,000 a month for religious centers to open their doors to migrants between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily, to cover janitors, shelter coordinators, security background checks for workers and laundry and other services.

Houses of worship that house migrants overnight from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. can be reimbursed up to $35,500 a month or $65 per person a night for similar operating costs.

Centers will be required to have showers (six single stalls for daytime care and at least two stalls for overnight care) or the ability to add as well as space to prepare meals and for migrants to eat.

Daytime centers will get $5 per person for lunches and snacks while overnight shelters will get just over $6.50 for dinner and breakfast, $3.27 per meal.

In comparison, the city’s controversial no-bid contract with DocGo, a provider of mobile health services, was paying out $11 per meal, many of which were just getting thrown out with migrants saying the food was horrible.

Adams set a goal last month of shaving off another 10% to migrant housing costs, on top of a previous 20% reduction City Hall has already achieved.

The Maspeth faith-based shelter, though, is already receiving blowback more local Councilman Bob Holden, who called the move “completely unacceptable.”

“It’s an absolute disgrace that our city wastes millions on people who shouldn’t be here while our veterans and citizens are left homeless and forgotten,” the Queens Democrat railed.

“City Hall for years ignored a faith-based approach to housing our own, but have no problem rolling out the red carpet for migrants,” he added. “What a travesty.”

The popular weight-loss drug Wegovy, which has helped millions of Americans shed pounds, can now be used to reduce the risk of stroke, heart attacks and other serious cardiovascular problems in patients who are overweight or who have obesity, federal regulators said Friday.

The Food and Drug Administration approved a label change requested by drugmaker Novo Nordisk that expands the use of semaglutide.

The decision was based on the results of a study that found that Wegovy cut the risk of serious heart problems — including heart attack, stroke and heart-related deaths. Higher-weight patients with heart disease but not diabetes were 20% less likely to experience those problems compared with patients who took placebo, or dummy shots, the study found.

Wegovy is the first medication approved to help prevent the potentially life-threatening events in this population, the agency said.

“Providing a treatment option that is proven to lower this cardiovascular risk is a major advance for public health,” said Dr. John Sharretts, who directs FDA’s division of diabetes, lipid disorders and obesity.

The move will change the way many heart patients are treated, said Dr. Martha Gulati, a cardiologist at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. It confirms that the new class of obesity medications are useful for improving health, not just losing weight.

“The hope is that insurers will start understanding that this is not a vanity drug,” said Gulati, who estimated that nearly 70% of her heart patients could be eligible for treatment.

Wegovy is a higher-dose version of Ozempic, the diabetes treatment that was previously approved to cut the risk of serious heart problems in people with that disease. The weight-loss drug typically costs about $1,300 a month.

Novo Nordisk has also asked European Union regulators to expand the use of the drug for heart problems. EU regulators have not weighed in on the request.

The FDA cautioned that Wegovy carries the risk of serious side effects, including thyroid tumors and certain cancers. Other possible side effects can include low blood sugar; pancreas, gallbladder, kidney or eye problems; and suicidal behavior or thinking.

About a third of the more than 17,600 participants in the clinical trial reported serious side effects. About 17% in the group that took Wegovy and about 8% of those who received placebo left the study because of those effects.

The new indication could increase coverage of the drug by Medicare, experts said. The federal health insurance program for older Americans is currently barred by law from covering drugs for weight loss alone. The agency spent nearly $3 billion in 2021 covering Ozempic to treat diabetes, according to latest available figures.

“I’m not sure it opens the floodgates, but it would open the door to allow more people on Medicare to gain access to Wegovy,” said Tricia Neuman, a Medicare policy specialist at KFF, a nonprofit that researches health policy.

Private insurers will evaluate the new indication for Wegovy before making coverage decisions, said a spokesperson for AHIP, America’s Health Insurance Plans, an industry trade group.

Drugmakers and obesity advocates have been pushing for expanded coverage, including legislation that would require Medicare to pay for the obesity drugs.

At issue has been whether the cost of the expensive medications will be offset by the savings of reduced spending on medical care related to obesity — and, now, heart disease.

One lingering obstacle to broader use is limited supply of the drug, which has been in shortage for more than a year, according to the FDA. Novo Nordisk officials say they’re working to increase production.

Wider access can’t come soon enough, said Gulati.

“Everybody’s waiting to get this medication,” she said. “Lower the cost, don’t be greedy and make sure the drug is available for use.”

WASHINGTON — President Biden confirmed Friday that he may refuse to debate former President Donald Trump ahead of their anticipated election rematch.

“It depends on his behavior,” the 81-year-old Biden told reporters as he left the White House for a campaign trip to Philadelphia.

Trump, 77, said Wednesday that Biden must agree to debate him — amid suspicion that the incumbent would skip the traditional forums to deny the presumptive Republican nominee relatively unfettered TV air time.

“It is important, for the Good of our Country, that Joe Biden and I Debate Issues that are so vital to America, and the American People,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

“Therefore, I am calling for Debates, ANYTIME, ANYWHERE, ANYPLACE!”

The nuclear deterrence capabilities of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization are set to be significantly enhanced as the US Air Force's newest fifth-generation fighter jet, the F-35A Lightning II, has been operationally certified to be equipped with B61-12 thermonuclear gravity bombs for the first time.

"The F-35A is the first 5th generation nuclear capable aircraft ever, and the first new platform (fighter or bomber) to achieve this status since the early 1990s. This F-35 Nuclear Certification effort culminates 10+ years of intense effort across the nuclear enterprise, which consists of 16 different government and industry stakeholders," F-35 Joint Program Office spokesman Russ Goemaere told military blog Breaking Defense.

Goemaere said, "The F-35A achieved Nuclear Certification ahead of schedule, providing US and NATO with a critical capability that supports US extended deterrence commitments earlier than anticipated.​"

The "dual-capable" stealth fighter that can now carry both conventional and nuclear weapons is replacing fourth-generation fighters in almost all NATO states that participate in nuclear sharing. The F-35's ability to carry modernized B61-12 nuclear bombs will beef up NATO's regional deterrence capabilities and help deter further Russian aggression.

"This move is part of the US expanding effort in and among the US and NATO allies to counter Putin's coercive threats to use nuclear weapons as a means to break our collective strategic resolve against Russia. Putin knows that the F-35 is more than capable of stealthily penetrating his airspace and delivering sensitive payloads," said David Asher, a senior fellow at Hudson Institute.

It remains to be seen how Moscow will react to nuclear-capable F-35s flying near Russian borders and in the Baltic area. Russia also has a fifth-generation fighter jet, the Su-57 fighter, known by NATO as 'Felon.'

Inside The Most Ridiculous Jobs Report In History: Record 1.2 Million Immigrant Jobs Added In One Month(ZeroHedge.com)

Last month we though that the January jobs report was the "most ridiculous in recent history" but, boy, were we wrong because this morning the Biden department of goalseeked propaganda (aka BLS) published the February jobs report, and holy crap was that something else. Even Goebbels would blush.

What happened? Let's take a closer look.

On the surface, it was (almost) another blockbuster jobs report, certainly one which nobody expected, or rather just one bank out of 76 expected. Starting at the top, the BLS reported that in February the US unexpectedly added 275K jobs, with just one research analyst (from Dai-Ichi Research) expecting a higher number.

Some context: after last month's record 4-sigma beat, today's print was "only" 3 sigma higher than estimates. Needless to say, two multiple sigma beats in a row used to only happen in the USSR… and now in the US, apparently.

Before we go any further, a quick note on what last month we said was "the most ridiculous jobs report in recent history": it appears the BLS read our comments and decided to stop beclowing itself. It did that by slashing last month's ridiculous print by over a third, and revising what was originally reported as a massive 353K beat to just 229K, a 124K revision, which was the biggest one-month negative revision in two years!

Of course, that does not mean that this month's jobs print won't be revised lower: it will be, and not just that month but every other month until the November election because that's the only tool left in the Biden admin's box: pretend the economic and jobs are strong, then revise them sharply lower the next month, something we pointed out first last summer and which has not failed to disappoint once.

To be fair, not every aspect of the jobs report was stellar (after all, the BLS had to give it some vague credibility). Take the unemployment rate, after flatlining between 3.4% and 3.8% for two years - and thus denying expectations from Sahm's Rule that a recession may have already started - in February the unemployment rate unexpectedly jumped to 3.9%, the highest since February 2022 (with Black unemployment spiking by 0.3% to 5.6%, an indicator which the Biden admin will quickly slam as widespread economic racism or something).

And then there were average hourly earnings, which after surging 0.6% MoM in January (since revised to 0.5%) and spooking markets that wage growth is so hot, the Fed will have no choice but to delay cuts, in February the number tumbled to just 0.1%, the lowest in two years…

… for one simple reason: last month's average wage surge had nothing to do with actual wages, and everything to do with the BLS estimate of hours worked (which is the denominator in the average wage calculation) which last month tumbled to just 34.1 (we were led to believe) the lowest since the covid pandemic…

… but has since been revised higher while the February print rose even more, to 34.3, hence why the latest average wage data was once again a product not of wages going up, but of how long Americans worked in any weekly period, in this case higher from 34.1 to 34.3, an increase which has a major impact on the average calculation.

While the above data points were examples of some latent weakness in the latest report, perhaps meant to give it a sheen of veracity, it was everything else in the report that was a problem starting with the BLS's latest choice of seasonal adjustments (after last month's wholesale revision), which have gone from merely laughable to full clownshow, as the following comparison between the monthly change in BLS and ADP payrolls shows. The trend is clear: the Biden admin numbers are now clearly rising even as the impartial ADP (which directly logs employment numbers at the company level and is far more accurate), shows an accelerating slowdown.

But it's more than just the Biden admin hanging its "success" on seasonal adjustments: when one digs deeper inside the jobs report, all sorts of ugly things emerge… such as the growing unprecedented divergence between the Establishment (payrolls) survey and much more accurate Household (actual employment) survey. To wit, while in January the BLS claims 275K payrolls were added, the Household survey found that the number of actually employed workers dropped for the third straight month (and 4 in the past 5), this time by 184K (from 161.152K to 160.968K).

This means that while the Payrolls series hits new all time highs every month since December 2020 (when according to the BLS the US had its last month of payrolls losses), the level of Employment has not budged in the past year. Worse, as shown in the chart below, such a gaping divergence has opened between the two series in the past 4 years, that the number of Employed workers would need to soar by 9 million (!) to catch up to what Payrolls claims is the employment situation.

There's more: shifting from a quantitative to a qualitative assessment, reveals just how ugly the composition of "new jobs" has been. Consider this: the BLS reports that in February 2024, the US had 132.9 million full-time jobs and 27.9 million part-time jobs. Well, that's great… until you look back one year and find that in February 2023 the US had 133.2 million full-time jobs, or more than it does one year later! And yes, all the job growth since then has been in part-time jobs, which have increased by 921K since February 2023 (from 27.020 million to 27.941 million).

Here is a summary of the labor composition in the past year: all the new jobs have been part-time jobs!

But wait there's even more, because now that the primary season is over and we enter the heart of election season and political talking points will be thrown around left and right, especially in the context of the immigration crisis created intentionally by the Biden administration which is hoping to import millions of new Democratic voters (maybe the US can hold the presidential election in Honduras or Guatemala, after all it is their citizens that will be illegally casting the key votes in November), what we find is that in February, the number of native-born workers tumbled again, sliding by a massive 560K to just 129.807 million. Add to this the December data, and we get a near-record 2.4 million plunge in native-born workers in just the past 3 months (only the covid crash was worse)!

The offset? A record 1.2 million foreign-born (read immigrants, both legal and illegal but mostly illegal) workers added in February!

Said otherwise, not only has all job creation in the past 6 years has been exclusively for foreign-born workers…

… but there has been zero job-creation for native born workers since June 2018!

This is a huge issue - especially at a time of an illegal alien flood at the southwest border…

… and is about to become a huge political scandal, because once the inevitable recession finally hits, there will be millions of furious unemployed Americans demanding a more accurate explanation for what happened - i.e., the illegal immigration floodgates that were opened by the Biden admin.

Which is also why Biden's handlers will do everything in their power to insure there is no official recession before November… and why after the election is over, all economic hell will finally break loose. Until then, however, expect the jobs numbers to get even more ridiculous.

Faulty US Aid Drop Kills At Least 5 Palestinians In Gaza City(ZeroHedge.com)

At least five Palestinians were killed and one other wounded after a faulty aid drop in Gaza City on Friday. The casualties occurred following a botched attempt to drop humanitarian assistance from a plane, which ended up landing in a residential area in Sheikh Radwan, northwest of Gaza City, according to Al-Jazeera.

Videos captured by local journalists showed over a dozen packages dropped from a plane falling at a great speed near the al-Fayrouz Towers area.

The Palestinian media office in Gaza confirmed that five people had been killed, and criticized the use of air drops to deliver aid. "These operations are useless and not the best way to bring in aid, and we demand the opening of land crossings to bring in thousands of tons of aid immediately and urgently," it said.

"Dropping aid in this way takes on a showy and propaganda character rather than a humanitarian [one]," the media office added. "We warned previously that they pose a death threat to the lives of citizens in the Gaza Strip, and that is what happened."

An eyewitness told Al-Jazeera on Friday: "People were waiting for the drops when they noticed they were coming in fast. So a group of people took cover in a construction site."

"One of the packages fell atop the site, causing it to collapse, killing and wounding people inside. I rushed to help the people inside when I realized my cousin was among them. He is now dead."

Airdropping aid is used when all other alternatives fail, and when a population desperately needs life-saving aid while it is cut off from the world.

So far, Jordan, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and France have coordinated with Israel to airdrop aid in different areas of the blockaded Gaza Strip. The US on Sunday carried out its first humanitarian aid airdrop in Gaza with more than 30,000 meals parachuted in by three military planes. The operation was reportedly carried out jointly with Jordan's air force.

Watch: some of the crates sound like bombs when they hit the ground at high speed…

Palestinians have said that airdropped aid quantities are too small in comparison to the needs of a starving population in Gaza.

"It is pointless," Ahmad Mansour, a Palestinian in the south of Gaza, told Middle East Eye earlier this week. "A lot of the aid ended up in the sea or areas controlled by the Israeli army. You have got thousands of people running towards a few parcels of aid. They are playing games with us."

"I cannot understand why the world cannot pressure Israel to allow humanitarian aid trucks in," Mansour continued. "Why can humanitarian aid workers not be protected to distribute the aid fairly? Is the new motto: 'We will eat and get medicine only if we are lucky enough to catch something falling from the sky'?"

House Democrats Press Musk’s SpaceX On Claims Russian Forces Have Starlink Systems (ZeroHedge.com)

House Democrats are pressing SpaceX and its CEO, Elon Musk, for answers on allegations coming from Ukrainian intelligence officials that Russian forces are using SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet service in their ongoing war with Ukraine.

On Wednesday, March 6, House Oversight Committee Ranking Member Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) and Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.) sent a letter to SpaceX Chief Operating Officer Gwynne Shotwell, calling for her to address how Russian forces may have obtained SpaceX terminals.

Starlink terminals connect to SpaceX’s constellation of thousands of satellites operating in low Earth orbit. SpaceX began supplying thousands of Starlink terminals to Ukraine after Russian invasion forces entered the country in February 2022, helping keep Ukraine online even as Russian attacks degraded their existing telecommunications and internet infrastructure.

Ukraine’s Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) first raised concerns about Russian forces using the Starlink service on Feb. 11. GUR spokesman Andriy Yusov stated at the time that Ukrainian intelligence officials had intercepted radio transmissions in which Russian soldiers described widespread use of the satellite internet service around the contested Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine.

“This is starting to become systemic,” Mr. Yusov said of Russia’s alleged use of the Starlink service.

Mr. Musk has denied the allegations, stating, “To the best of our knowledge, no Starlinks have been sold directly or indirectly to Russia.”

But Mr. Raskin and Mr. Garcia are continuing to press the question. The two lawmakers noted a report last month by the U.S. Department of Commerce, which said “Russia routinely relies on evasive or deceptive tactics such as the use of third-party intermediaries or transshipment points” to evade U.S. export controls against the country.

The two lawmakers noted Mr. Musk’s denial, but reiterated Mr. Yusov’s characterization of Russia’s Starlink usage as “systemic.”

“We are concerned that you may not have appropriate guardrails and policies in place to ensure your technology is neither acquired directly or indirectly, nor used illegally by Russia,” their letter to Ms. Shotwell reads.

The Democrats called on SpaceX to reveal how many reports or complaints it has received alleging Russian use of the Starlink service, as well as how many of those complaints the company investigated. The lawmakers also pressed SpaceX to explain its review process for such complaints, detail its safeguards against illicit acquisitions of Starlink terminals, what measures SpaceX advises to take when it determines an actor has illicitly acquired a Starlink terminal, and what work SpaceX has taken on its own and with the U.S. federal government to prevent such illicit acquisition and use of Starlink services. The lawmakers called on Ms. Shotwell to provide SpaceX’s response by March 20.

How Russia May Have Obtained Starlink Terminals

Not cited in the Democrats’ March 6 letter is a Feb. 13 blog post in which Ukraine’s GUR service posits intermediaries in Arab countries may be facilitating the transfers of Starlink terminals to Russian forces. That blog post describes an audio recording in which a Russian “occupier” is quoted as saying “the Arabs bring everything: wires, Wi-Fi, router… .” According to the GUR blog post, this same Russian individual reportedly went on to say the cost to obtain a Starlink device is 200,000 Russian Rubles (about $2,200).

While the GUR shared an audio recording in their Feb. 11 blog post, they did not provide the audio recording described in the Feb. 13 blog post, which might provide further clarity about how Starlink terminals may be ending up in Russian hands.

NTD News reached out to Mr. Raskin and Mr. Garcia’s offices, seeking more details about what evidence is guiding their SpaceX probe. Neither lawmaker’s office responded by press time.

More than two years on, the war between Russia and Ukraine has seen territory repeatedly change hands. Defense materials, from combat vehicles to weapons systems and items like Starlink terminals, may also see changes in ownership throughout the course of the fighting.

Among NTD News’ list of questions for Mr. Garcia was whether he and Mr. Raskin had ruled out the possibility that Russian forces had acquired Starlink terminals from defeated Ukrainian troops.

NTD News also reached out to SpaceX for comment about the possibility of Starlink terminals being captured on the battlefield, as well as evidence it may have of illicit transfers of these terminals through intermediaries. Likewise, SpaceX did not respond by press time.

A federal appeals court in the District of Columbia has issued an order allowing three Jan. 6 lawsuits to proceed against former President Donald Trump after a court rejected his assertion of presidential immunity.

A three-judge panel at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit issued an order on March 8, allowing the three consolidated appeals to be “removed from abeyance” and approving motions for summary affirmance, meaning removing a temporary hold on the cases and allowing them to proceed.

The lawsuits that are now allowed to proceed are Moore v. Trump, Kirkland v. Trump, and Tabron v. Trump.

In all three civil suits, law enforcement officers are seeking damages based on the premise that President Trump incited a mob to storm the Capitol, leading to a violent incident in which they sustained various injuries and suffered harm, including emotional distress.

President Trump has denied calling for violence on Jan. 6, pointing to remarks he made encouraging his supporters to demonstrate “peacefully and patriotically.”

‘Matters of Public Concern’

The judges noted in their March 8 order that the merits of the three parties’ positions “are so clear as to warrant summary action,” and that the cases can proceed based on a Dec. 1 appeals court decision in Blassingame v. Trump that President Trump is not immune to lawsuits over the Jan. 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol.

In Blassingame v. Trump, the former president’s attorneys had argued that he should be granted immunity because his alleged actions around Jan. 6 amounted to official speech on “matters of public concern.”

The judges’ reasoning in that case was that the former president’s actions leading up to and on Jan. 6 were part of his campaign for a second term in the White House and not an official presidential act.

“In arguing that he is entitled to official-act immunity in the cases before us, President Trump does not dispute that he engaged in his alleged actions up to and on January 6 in his capacity as a candidate. But he thinks that does not matter,” U.S. Circuit Judge Sri Srinivasan, appointed under President Barack Obama, wrote in the Dec. 1 ruling.

“Rather, in his view, a president’s speech on matters of public concern is invariably an official function, and he was engaged in that function when he spoke at the January 6 rally and in the leadup to that day. We cannot accept that rationale.”

Later, a similar order denying presidential immunity in Jan. 6 cases was issued on Dec. 29, in a lawsuit filed in 2021 by Capitol Police veteran Conrad Smith and seven of his colleagues.

“On appeal, the only question is whether President Trump has demonstrated his entitlement to official-act immunity,” reads the Dec. 29 order, which was signed by a three-judge panel consisting of Judge Srinivasan and Judges Judith Rogers and Gregory Katsas.

The judges in that case laid out a similar rationale for denying President Trump’s argument that he should be protected from liability because his statements and actions on Jan. 6 amounted to making statements that are of concern to the public.

“That argument fails” because President Trump’s commentary and actions around Jan. 6 bear “no inherent connection to the essential distinction between official and unofficial acts” because they were not part of his official duties to share “matters of public concern,” the judges wrote, concluding he’s ineligible for presidential immunity.

In the Dec. 29 ruling, the judges also cited the Blassingame v. Trump judgment and said the case brought by Mr. Smith and his colleagues is “indistinguishable” in all relevant aspects, so they issued what amounts to an identical determination that President Trump is not immune from civil lawsuits related to Jan. 6.

A request for comment on the Dec. 29 judgment sent to the Trump campaign was not returned before press time.

The former president is entitled to request a rehearing before a full panel of judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals in the immunity case. He could also appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.

However, the Supreme Court has agreed to hear President Trump’s appeal in a separate federal criminal case alleging election interference, which was brought by special counsel Jack Smith.

President Trump’s appeal in this case also claims immunity, with the Supreme Court set to hear oral arguments during the week of April 22.

A determination on presidential immunity by the Supreme Court could have implications for the lawsuits that the District of Columbia appeals court just allowed to proceed.

‘Peacefully and Patriotically’

Even though President Trump said in his Jan. 6 speech that protesters should “peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard,” his critics have seized on a portion of his remarks where he said “we fight like hell” and “if you don’t fight like hell, you’re not going to have a country anymore.” Critics claim this was a call for violence.

The former president has, on numerous occasions, denied calling for violent protests while insisting he meant his remarks about fighting like hell metaphorically.

In one of the Jan. 6 cases against the former president, Smith v. Trump, the Lawyer’s Committee for Civil Rights filed the lawsuit on behalf of Mr. Smith and seven of his colleagues, arguing that President Trump deliberately incited violence against members of Congress and law enforcement officers whose duty was to protect them.

President Trump has rejected the claim that he in any way incited violence on Jan. 6, 2021, pointing to remarks he made that called for demonstrators to protest peacefully. In a bid to dismiss the lawsuit, his attorneys argued that the complaint should be tossed because he, as president, was eligible for immunity.

The court rejected President Trump’s bid to have the case dismissed, however, leading eventually to the Dec. 29 judgment that his remarks on Jan. 6 were not official acts as president, so the immunity shield doesn’t apply.
