The commencement of large-scale rebellion in the American colonies began with the Battles of Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775. As Emerson wrote of the Old North Bridge in Concord, “Here the embattled farmer stood, and fired the shot heard round the world.” However, four months earlier, on December 14, 1774, an incident took place in Portsmouth, New Hampshire that could rival Concord and Lexington’s claim to fame.
I have to admit up front, I do have a bias in this regard. I grew up in the vicinity of Concord and am very proud of that region’s history. Patriot’s Day (April 19) was a big deal in my home town. I happily remember participating as a youngster in the annual march to Concord along the route that the Minutemen followed. Since then, I’ve devoted considerable time to the study of the actions at Lexington and Concord…a day of such clear significance that it really cannot be “unseated” as the start of the Revolution. But still, there is this Portsmouth episode…
Gen. Thomas Gage came to Boston in May 1774 as the new Royal Governor of the Province of Massachusetts Bay…a province on the verge of rebellion. His primary task: to bring stability back to Massachusetts and avoid any widespread violence. It was, in my opinion, an impossible task. Boston had been under military occupation for roughly five years and was about ready to explode. Through the diligent efforts of the committees of correspondence, the unrest had spread throughout the province and beyond. It was far too late to bring Massachusetts back into the fold.
Gage gave it his best shot, however. But he found resistance at every turn. In the late summer of 1774, finding himself at loggerheads with Sam Adams, John Hancock and others, Gage disbanded the provincial legislature. Massachusetts was now under a state of martial law. Additional British regiments arrived in Boston. The provincial Minutemen were busy drilling as vigorously as possible. By September 1774, things looked very grim.
Still hoping to avoid bloodshed, Gage arrived at a simple plan to prevent a protracted rebellion…Take away the gunpowder. If the provincials had no access to gunpowder, they could not fight a war. In going about this, Gage did not wish to further incense the provincials and was careful to adhere to the law. Initially, he focused merely on collecting royal gunpowder stores and left alone the powder belonging to individual towns.
His first effort to fetch and protect the King’s gunpowder took place on September 1, 1774 when he sent a battalion of redcoats in the dark morning hours to the Provincial Powder House in what is now Somerville, Massachusetts (the stone structure is still there, by the way, in what is now called Powder House Square). The movement was a perfect success…the King’s powder removed, plus two cannons taken from Cambridge, all before the populace really knew what was happening. But that morning, such rumors flew from town to town until most of New England believed that the Regulars were firing upon civilians in the streets of Cambridge. Thousands upon thousands of armed militia marched to Cambridge, only to find that there had been no bloodshed and that the redcoats were safely back in Boston. Still, the massive response from the colonials was a sobering incident for Gage.
His next effort was to take the gunpowder and armaments from Fort William and Mary in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. That was not his province, but as commanding general of the King’s forces in North America, Gage had to see to the safety of the King’s munitions throughout the colonies. And royalist Governor John Wentworth of New Hampshire agreed that Portsmouth’s fort represented a major problem.
Located on a peninsula at the mouth of the Piscataqua River, Fort William and Mary guarded the entrance to Portsmouth Harbor. But it was manned only by a skeleton crew of six British soldiers. Although Wentworth might have liked to have additional troops to bolster the fort and create a stronghold against the rebels, he apparently did not want the outrage that would be caused by an occupied Portsmouth. So, he enthusiastically agreed with Gage’s plan to remove all munitions from the fort.
But no plan, on either side, could be kept secret in Boston. The Sons of Liberty quickly learned of Gage’s intentions and on December 13, Paul Revere made one of his famous rides to warn the inhabitants of Portsmouth. The provinicials of New Hampshire wasted no time. By December 14, 1774, four hundred colonial militia had gathered in Portsmouth. And the Regulars had not even left Boston yet.
At around three o’clock that afternoon, the colonial militia converged on Fort William and Mary. Imagine the dismay of Captain Cochran, in command of the fort, as he saw them coming by land and by boat. Much to the credit of the six soldiers manning the fort, they managed to fire three cannons before the colonials completely overwhelmed the ramparts. And they struggled in hand-to-hand combat even as the militia surrounded them.
Triumphant, the colonials hauled down the King’s flag…an act which outraged Capt. Cochran. He tried to stop them but was wounded in the act. The colonials then proceeded to haul away more than 100 barrels of gundpowder, sixteen cannons, and a large number of muskets. Days later, when the troops from Boston finally arrived, they discovered how badly the mission had been botched.
How do you define the beginning of a Revolution? There may not be set parameters, but the Portsmouth incident has several factors that might qualify it for such a distinction. A large body of rebels acting in organized fashion, firing upon uniformed troops of an occupying force. Both sides acting in pursuit of broader strategic goals. And the flag of the occupying force symbolically hauled down. Indeed, there are some parallels here that remind me of the assault on Fort Sumter which commenced the American Civil War. Of the Portsmouth Alarm, historian David Hackett Fischer wrote, “These were truly the first blows of the American Revolution, four months before the battles of Lexington and Concord.”
What the incident does not have going for it are numbers and…well…glory. An assault on six of the King’s soldiers is hardly an inspiring episode on which a new nation might hang its hat.
So the Battles of Lexington and Concord will and should remain the definitive start of the American Revolution. But, if any proud residents of New Hampshire wanted to make the argument that the Revolution began in their state on December 14, 1774, I really wouldn’t be inclined to argue…much.

As if the noticeably longer ads on YouTube weren't unbearable enough, the streaming video platform is now also in the spotlight due to slowing down PCs for users that have AdBlock installed.
That was the topic of a new PCGamer.com article, which noted that "AdBlock users have been reporting widespread performance issues with the extension enabled on YouTube".
A thread in the YouTube subreddit detailed that AdBlock enabling would cause slow load times and increased CPU usage when on YouTube.
"This messes up the resources on the computer as a whole. It just kills Chrome it seems," one person wrote.
The author tested the issue himself and found that his CPU usage rose about 17% when using AdBlock on the site. While not a catastrophic increase in processor use, the author did note that "lower-end laptops mainly used for browsing could start having heat problems".
The issue also affects YouTube Premium subscribers using AdBlocker on other sites, frustrating users who expect an ad-free experience in line with YouTube's Terms of Service.
User JotaroKujoxXx mentioned their laptop's unusually high activity, while another user suspected storage issues. Sarah James, a Guides Writer, observed a 15-18% performance drop when using the extension with Premium.
YouTube's communications manager, Christopher Lawton, indicated that such issues will persist as the platform enhances its ad-blocker detection. Consequently, YouTube often gets blamed for any extension-related problems, though in some cases, it may not be directly responsible.
Lawton told PCGamer: "Loading delays experienced by Adblock and AdBlock Plus users are not caused by our ad blocker detection efforts."
Raymond Hill of uBlock Origin also commented about the issue on Twitter: "I investigated a bit the performance regressions, and the cause is many distinct code paths, [which] affect many sites."
"Since it affects both Adblock Plus and AdBlock, the performance regression hits harder those who had the bad idea to use both at once," he wrote.

Because the DeSantis campaign was not about what RDS can do, it was about attacking Trump and being the only alternative.
They never spent any time building DeSantis up. They allocated all their resources to smearing Trump, attacking his supporters, and being downright insufferable. An astonishing level of unjustified hubris.
They were banking on Trump being pulled off the ballot, thrown in jail, assassinated, etc. They never stood on the merit of their candidate.

After the recent fiasco involving the Boeing 737 Max, aka the "convertible" model, and the subsequent grounding the last thing the woke aerospace giant needed was more focus to its DEI-inspired airplane production practices (where airplanes are "designed by clowns, who in turn are supervised by monkeys" but it's all very equitable and anti-white). Alas, that's precisely what it got moments ago when Bloomberg reported that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken was unable to fly home from Davos as scheduled on Wednesday due to a critical error with his aircraft…. which, you may have guessed - is a Boeing 737.
After flying from Davos on helicopters (the gas-free variety, because we all know that the Davos set is very concerned about the environment and CO emissions) and boarding the modified Boeing 737, Blinken and his party were informed that the aircraft had been deemed unsafe to fly. An oxygen leak detected previously could not be remedied.
A smaller jet (supposedly "more private" and even more gas-guzzling, yet one that does not spontaneously become a convertible model mid-air) was being flown to Zurich from Brussels to ferry home the top US diplomat, while many of his aides and members of the press pool had to travel to Washington commercially. Those peasants.
Last September, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau got stuck in India after a Group of 20 summit in New Delhi after a mechanical fault with his plane. Back in 2018, then German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s plane also suffered from a malfunction.

He spent more time there than any other candidate.
He spent more on ads than any other candidate.
His reward for doing that was to suffer a historical defeat of 30pts in a caucus no one had ever won by more than 12 pts before last night.
After burning through $100 million +, Iowa was supposed to be the launch pad for a primary campaign from January through June to seize control of the base from Donald Trump.
I guarantee you this LOOKED GOOD ON PAPER a year and a half ago when the GOP establishment was game planning this out.
Trump was supposed to have been rendered so radioactively TOXIC by now due to J6 narratives and ferocious over-the-top unconstitutional lawfare that DeSantis would have a real shot at this.
Nothing…N-O-T-H-I-N-G…has gone the way the Uniparty GOP establishment class in the beltway thought it would.
Now the DeSantis campaign is hanging on by a slim thread, hoping against hope that somehow that vicious lawfare is going to PAY OFF for them and hand them the nomination if Trump is convicted at any one of these fake show trials being quite transparently conducted as blatant in-your-freaking-face election interference.

The Patriot Voice (T.me) Trump and his team should DEMAND A RECOUNT in Johnson County, Iowa.
This is the county that somehow went for Nikki Haley, with only ONE vote (1270-1271) putting her on top of Trump, keeping him from having a FULL 99 county sweep.
As if that isn’t suspect enough…Also, there were reports of a LOT of registered voters switching affiliation from Dem to Rep to vote for Haley. This is where the liberal enclave, Iowa University is located.
Which ultimately means that Democrats gave the “victory” to Nikki there.

Marriage is on the decline, and it's a scary thought. Imagine dating a man for years, cohabitating, and giving the relationship your all without him ever having to "put a ring on it." Entrapment pregnancy, a.k.a. forced fatherhood, is a common problem in the United States too. Many men feel paying support for a child they didn’t agree to have is unfair, but the courts see it as doing what’s right for the child. A woman receiving child support can also claim government assistance (welfare, free health insurance, etc.) while the man gets nothing.
In the event of a married couple divorcing, men only get custody of their children 10% of the time but are always responsible for paying child support and alimony. Many men complain that courts send the message that fathers are not essential to raising children beyond the point of paying child support.
Closing Thoughts
In a society that strives for equality, maybe these gender laws are outdated? Women make up 50% of the labor force, so why do we claim unfair gender divides regarding marriage and family disputes? If the risks involved in entering marriage were equally distributed, perhaps more men will feel like they have less to lose?
It's such a minefield, and change might not happen fast. Still, if we want to see men viewing marriage in a positive light again so we can continue to have strong family units, it will take a long-term focused effort from women, men, and the government. Being aware of the issues men face, empathizing, and trying to see it from their perspective is a great place to start.
I will personally NEVER give up the fight for men's rights. Its not enough to say "we must come together" because the way it stands, women will NEVER give up the advantage they have in family court.. which is DESTROYING our nation's families. FIX THIS NOW. There will be NO rebuilding of family till it gets corrected. AFTER it is corrected we can come together again.. not before.
