HERN RIPS BIDEN GIVEAWAY TO ‘ACTIVIST-JOURNALISTS’

Buried within the various spending proposals being floated by the Biden administration and congressional Democrats is one that would allocate $1.3 billion to provide federal subsidies for newspapers.

The proposal would give local newspapers tax credits for every journalist they employ. The publishers could then apply that credit to the employer’s share of Medicare payroll taxes due for those workers. If any dollars are left over, the IRS would send a refund check to the newspaper.

The initial version of the proposal set an annual tax credit of $25,000 per journalist, decreasing to $15,000 in subsequent years. A later version in the rapidly evolving bill would grant quarterly tax credits up to $12,500 per reporter, up to a maximum of $50,000 annually.

The subsidy would be limited to local newspapers with no more than 750 employees and which have on staff at least one reporter involved in local news coverage—making it available to almost every newspaper in America. The provision, added to the Biden spending bill in the House Ways and Means Committee, is the direct offspring of a previous proposal in 2020, the Local Journalism Sustainability Act, which failed to win passage.

“It’s one of the dumber proposals I’ve seen included in an already monstrous piece of legislation,” said Congressman Kevin Hern (R-Okla.), who serves on the Ways and Means Committee. “There’s more important work to be done than giving the Democrats’ activist-journalists a tax break.”

Hern was joined by Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson who was quoted as raising perhaps the biggest objection to the proposal, the incestuous relationship it would create between government and the organizations charged with covering it.

Crews raced Sunday to contain the damage from a major oil spill off the Orange County coast that left crude spoiling beaches, killing fish and birds and threatening local wetlands.

The spill, first reported Saturday, originated from a pipeline off the coast of Huntington Beach connected to an offshore oil platform known as Elly. The failure caused at least 126,000 gallons of crude to spill into coastal waters creating a slick that spanned about 8,320 acres— larger than the size of Santa Monica—and sent oil to the shores of Newport Beach and Huntington Beach early Sunday.

Oil from the spill also infiltrated Talbert Marsh, a 25-acre ecological reserve in Huntington Beach that is home to dozens of species of birds.

Officials said Sunday afternoon that it appears the pipeline has stopped leaking. But Orange County Supervisor Katrina Foley said despite efforts to patch the damaged pipeline on Saturday, oil continued to spill from it through the night and divers were still working to repair it early Sunday.

It’s unclear what caused the spill and how long oil was flowing out of the system.

Pennsylvania Democrat Christopher M. Rabb sent out a memorandum to all House members regarding his legislation that will enforce reproductive responsibility among men. The bill will force men to undergo vasectomies within 6 weeks from having their third child or their 40th birthday, whichever comes first.

This legislation includes a $10,000 reward to whoever snitches to the proper authority on those who have failed to submit to forced sterilization within the allotted time.

This bill will also include legal actions for unwanted pregnancies against inseminators who wrongfully conceive a child with them.

"As long as state legislatures continue to restrict the reproductive rights of cis women, trans men, and non-binary people, there should be laws that address the responsibility of men who impregnate them. Thus, my bill will also codify “wrongful conception” to include when a person has demonstrated negligence toward preventing conception during intercourse,” Rabb stated in his memorandum.

Big Tech cartel member Twitter censored the obituary of a 37-year-old Seattle mother whose family says she died from vaccine-induced blood clotting after being pressured to accept the injection by applying a “misleading” label, which prevents the post from being shared.

The obituary of Jessica Berg Wilson, published on the website of The Oregonian newspaper, says the women, described as “an exceptionally healthy and vibrant 37-year-old young mother with no underlying health conditions,” died “unexpectedly” on Sept. 7 from “COVID-19 Vaccine-Induced Thrombotic Thrombocytopenia (VITT).”

Jessica, who worked in human resources, left behind her husband and two daughters aged 5 and 3. The tribute said, “Jessica’s greatest passion was to be the best mother possible for Bridget and Clara. Nothing would stand in her way to be present in their lives.”

As the obituary continues, the family reveals Jessica was coerced into accepting vaccination in order to continue to volunteer at her daughters’ school, “During the last weeks of her life, however, the world turned dark with heavy-handed vaccine mandates. Local and state governments were determined to strip away her right to consult her wisdom and enjoy her freedom.”

“She had been vehemently opposed to taking the vaccine, knowing she was in good health and of a young age and thus not at risk for serious illness. In her mind, the known and unknown risks of the unproven vaccine were more of a threat.”

“But, slowly, day by day, her freedom to choose was stripped away. Her passion to be actively involved in her children’s education—which included being a Room Mom—was, once again, blocked by government mandate.”

“Ultimately, those who closed doors and separated mothers from their children prevailed. It cost Jessica her life. It cost her children the loving embrace of their caring mother. And it cost her husband the sacred love of his devoted wife.”

The tribute says Jessica and her husband Tom are devout Catholics. Multiple Seattle Catholic schools show search results for “Room Parent” on their websites, describing the role as something of a volunteer support worker for their childrens’ teacher.

In the 2021 Reopening Plan for St. John Cathloic School, another Cathloic school that utilizes the Room Parent program, under the Proof of Vaccination section the Plan states that, “Vaccination is the most effective prevention strategy available for allowing schools to remain in the full-time, in-person instruction model.”

It notes that an Aug. 18 order by Governor Jay Inslee required vaccine passports for “all employees in public, private, and charter K-12 schools, as well as childcare and early learning providers,” and specifically notes, “This order applies to our parent volunteer and coaches.”

I called up a lot of my colleagues in academia and in industry, and in a very short period of time, we assembled a group to talk about whether all sectors could become real partners in this effort. After an initial positive discussion, it took just two weeks for this partnership to come into being. It's called ACTIV. This has intensely involved about a hundred people, about half of them from industry and half from government and academia. They pretty much dropped everything else. They organized themselves into four very intense working groups on preclinical issues, clinical issues, clinical trials, and vaccines. The Foundation for NIH provided expert program management, which made the whole enterprise work remarkably well.

All of that has now gotten us to the point where we do know a lot of treatments that don't work—and that's really important—and a few that really do: remdesivir, dexamethasone, high-dose heparin for hospitalized patients, and monoclonal antibodies for outpatients. That's a pretty impressive menu, but it's not big enough. We're still deep into that, even a year later, because this is not over and we want to be sure we have tested every idea.

How is NIH research tackling the issue of mental health right now?

There are so many consequences of COVID-19 that have made life extremely difficult for everybody across the world, and certainly that includes the U.S. Hardly anyone has been untouched, whether it is by their own illness or that of a family member, the economic distress that's fallen on so many people, or consequences of isolation and being in a circumstance that none of us expected would be part of our daily life but now is. You can't look at this circumstance and not [see] that [an impact on] mental health is one of the big consequences of COVID-19. Certainly, surveys have shown that the vast majority of people are feeling significant stress.

NIH, of course, has an entire institute to devoted to these issues—the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH)—and NIMH has worked hard to get information out there about resources that can help people who are struggling with anxiety, depression, and fear.

This won't be our last pandemic, so we need to identify what we can learn from this and what kind of interventions would be most helpful for people who are going through this kind of struggle, both now and in the future. So, as part of our agenda, along with vaccines and drugs that might be effective treatments, we also need the mental health issues to get the same kind of attention. We're working hard on that. Josh Gordon [M.D., Ph.D.], the director of NIMH, has been front and center, and is helping to design the next generation of pandemic research studies at NIMH.

Many people have been working around the clock on the vaccine and other COVID-19 research. Who are some of the NIH heroes who are part of this process?

There are many! Some of the first who come to mind are those at NIH's Vaccine Research Center (VRC) who, within a day after the posting of the sequence of the genome of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, went about designing what the vaccine would look like. They built on work they had pursued for many years, using messenger RNA as the way in which the vaccine could be developed. Then they collaborated with the company Moderna. And within 63 days of the initial posting of the viral genome sequence, the first patient was getting injected with a phase 1 vaccine. Among those VRC heroes are Kizzmekia Corbett [Ph.D.], Barney Graham [M.D., Ph.D.], and John Mascola [M.D.], who led that effort under Tony Fauci [M.D.]'s able oversight. And look where we are now. ..
