I have an anthology of Peter Handke novellas that I've never managed to read more than like 10 pages into. Just didn't click I guess

I bought pynchon books just to have on the shelf for pretentious reasons with no intention to read them.

I bought a portrait of the artist as a young man, wanting to read it because (8/2)lit recommended it to me. I read the first couple pages and I'm too much of a brainlet to understand it. It's a shame since I hate having unread books on my book shelf, but at the same time, I don't think I can force myself to read it.

It's a great book there's nothing to understand, the beginning might seem difficult, just bear in mind it's written from the point of view of a child. Just relax and read.

I make lots annotations in my books and when there's no more room I write in a post-it and stick it in the pages.
I've also borrowed books from and never returned them.

I have a backlog of e-books for the Kindle app that I have yet to begin to read. Two I hope to start soon are Deep Ancestors: Practicing the Religion of the Proto-Indo-Europeans and Tengrism (book about Central Asian and Mongolian shamanism and its variants).
I have a few physical books I have yet to start too including Children of Húrin by Tolkien.

That sounds good. Anything Mongolia can be hard to find good online sources. I once tried looking for information about the pre-soviet writing system and there is a surprising lack of websites on the subject. I sometimes feel as though the internet is getting smaller and smaller….

Every year I buy the latest copy of Ellen Datlow's Best Horror of the Year but I never actually read all the stories, I just skip to the Laird Barron/Brian Hodge/John Langan stories and use those to gauge the quality of horror that year (2018 was a pretty good year for horror).

Isn't this exactly like when /v/ buys a game they never play, so they're essentially giving money for technically little return?
