When did Chans become some unpleasant & grumpy? I remember a time when it was a lot of fun to be had.

People don't know what a "meme" is anymore. In fact, if they played Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, they'd probably think the memes were LOL XD SO RANDUMB humor and nothing more, instead of taking it seriously with full understanding of what Monsoon is saying and being able to find humor in it at the same time.

Not to mention Trump and his shills. I really wish I saved that timestamped photo of that Trump Tower worker on /pol/. But at least there are caps of the Trump campaign ads floating around, which basically knocks EmpLemon's theory out of the water. Also, EmpLemon is fucking cancer and should kill himself, but sometimes he makes good content.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COINTELPRO

Read Spengler and then Yockey (Amaury de Riencourt and José Ortega y Gasset too, among others). Have these for starters:

I'll admit that Spengler's metaphysics stuff is autistic, but the basic stuff is wholly true. If you're /leftypol/, keep in mind that Adorno basically agreed with him.

I really miss m00tykins, even if he was a traitorous kike.

It's been that way for a while, but it seems to have gotten worse with the political polarization that's been taking place. You've got one side telling people to kill themselves because they're eee-vil degenerates who need GodJesus, and the other because they're cishetero white male racis' oppressors.

The free-for-all atmosphere of old /pol/ gave way to ideological hugboxing pretty quickly, but it was pretty enjoyable at the beginning.

There was a post on /v9k/ long ago perfectly articulating the death of imageboards but I didn't save it, it was basically that every thread has become the same song and dance and that everything is caricaturized, you already know how most threads will go in the top 50 boards. Take /v/ for example, someone posts a game or an article, a bunch of insults fly in the thread or there's informational that resuscitate what everyone knows, then it ends, a Fallout New Vegas thread plays the same way every fucking time. You have to deal with horrible mods like Kampfy and Mark too, board migrations don't work and no one will move to new sites. The internet has changed, everything has become monopolized and corporatized into another idiot box with designated websites that are a part of real life compared to being its own world, rundown "inbred" forums, and a few stragglers that still hold on to the good days of Web 1.0. When 8ch withers away or explodes I hope nothing comes after it, it's best to sink into other websites or smaller imageboards than continue to have a big hubs like here and 4chan, this place isn't as obscure as most think and is in fact well known since if 4chan goes down they all flock here, think of it as the last city before the wastelands and thinking of imageboards as cities help.

>website is a country or metropolitan area

>/v/, /b/ and /pol/ are cancerous urban hubs with too many people

>upper top 50 are the suburbs

>the lower top 50 are towns

>below those are small towns in the middle nowhere

>then ghosts towns

Went off on a tangent and don't care anymore but it won't get better and it's best to prepare yourself for when shit hits the fan. It's just surreal that years ago or even 3 years ago the internet wasn't this bad, the elections turned everyone into a streamlined rabid animal suffering from information overflow.

Given that /kind/ is usually a kinder place than most of the chan boards, I think I will be frank with what I have to say:

What is the point of Lurk Moar? Forgive me for heresy but I seriously don't get it. Once you start "Lurking Moar" what are you supposed to get? I honestly am new to the chan scene but I just don't see anything worth digging into.

What is there to dig into? Memes, Lingo, internet history? I've done my lurking and honestly the only thing I like are the memes and the imageboard format. The lack of any depth to chan culture is made worse by the cruelty of the people who identify with this culture. I don't want to be mean or disrespect anyone but I just don't see anything worthwhile in preserving a culture that has little depth and is a cancer on the internet.

tl;dr What is worth preserving in this whole chan "culture" thing?

Anything worth preserving sadly has not been preserved. It's been gone now. As for "lurk moar", to basically pick up on the culture of a certain board and learn the "unwritten rules" I guess.

>I doubt these guys are very active anymore

theyre just a drop in the bucket now. their plan worked perfectly. they ended up getting exactly what they wanted, see:

>"we will have an army of angry basement dwelling neckbeards to fill the internet with our message 24/7"

looking at almost any site on the net where comments can be left (and arent immediately pruned), they were absolutely correct.

granted the overwhelming mainstream push by progressives didnt help. nor did the completely contrived refugee crisis in the EU.

chans have always been a place for contrarianism, to an unhealthy degree. with the mainstream going balls to the walls trying to push absurd shit they have, its only natural that places like these went completely the other direction.

regardless, the fact stands that that pic is very likely what initially radicalized /pol/. i remember when i first went on there it was 90% lolbergs of which i still am tbh. but very rapidly it transformed into what it is now, so quick that one had to believe it was done via an outside interest group. and not only by stormgaggers, but my theory very likely by the anti-nazi groups as well. /pol/ was becoming very dangerous to the totally controlled media narrative back then, and one way to get 99% of normalfriends to tune out is to associate any and all conspiracy theories with an ideology like nazism. not to mention, once theres a board-wide consensus or the illusion of one, its very easy to crack said consensus, and even easier to tap into the innate paranoia of channers and get them to shill-call absolutely anyone who has an outside opinion and this stuff almost always derails threads

But that wasn't stormfront, that was a natural evolution. At first it was just ebin nazi memes to offend, because that was what chan culture was back then. Soon, legitimate truths that were stranger than the memes started to be posted. And then /pol/ was the First E-Reich.

/pol/ had all the freedom it wanted, and as a board it chose National Socialism. Then the same spread to the internet at large, because the biggest problem - the (((social stigma))) against National Socialism - does not apply at all in anonymous or pseudo-anonymous foræ.

I wouldn't be surprised if JIDF/similar types tried to turn /pol/ further right wing to get normalfriends to tune out, but that can only fail. Only the ideology that never compromises, that never dilutes its own tenets can win in the end. This is the same reason why Trump won in America despite being so far out of the (((acceptable nationalist))) camp.

The social stigma is why /pol/ became full of nazi larpers. If anons want to rebel against society, they'll lionize the most socially unacceptable people/ideas.

 No.41174

>>41157

/pol/ was right about a lot of things back in the day, but a lot of it is definitely contrarianism and believing in nutty ideas to spite normalfriends. I understand the impulse, especially considering how normalfriends prefer to whistle past the graveyard in regard to things like racial issues and get mad at anyone who doesn't stick to their preferred narrative (the common denominator of all which of seems to be writing off white racial interests). Having said that, you can troll normalfriends without allowing your sincere positions to be determined by going the opposite of what normalfriends think. If you always take the antithetical view of what society tells you to think, then you're letting them control you just the same (not to mention vulnerable to manipulation through reverse psychology) rather than thinking critically about your beliefs.

Honestly, though, I think anyone who spends a lot of time in the edgysphere is opening themselves up to that. I haven't read it, but I know there's a book called The Rats of Nationalism that posits that the feds have a big hand in seeding dissident Internet-based political movements to become ineffective LARPing. The author has suggested that the e-trend-hoppers and meme lingo enthusiasts ("cringe," "cope," "yikes," etc.) involved in these movements seem to be especially susceptible to subversion by outside forces.

White extremist american politics covertly infected and spread through out the site.

Look at the idea behind 2chan the website that inspired moot to create 4chan. It was supposed to be an English form of 2chan: fun site to talk about anime, tits. and a few other things, and occasionally cause some trouble for the fun of it.

At first that what 4chan was.

What do white male americans do with that idea? They make it about them, identity politics and typical trashy & uncreative white males defaulting to racial/ethnic [[[jokes]]] . Whereas other cultures and nations, like Japan's 2chan for instance, sought creative "good taste" in their jokes and mischief.

The infection eventually spread over to the trashy white male versions 7chan & 8chan; Identity politics, identity politics and more identity politics. Festering in that for extended periods of time turns anyone using the site whether they are white or not into an unpleasant grump to be around.

In 2020 I knew what it was to live in a place similar to Japan in terms of a post-apocalyptic world despite warranting a simpler lifestyle.

I only started going on chans more often in 2018 once I knew these were the kind of factors I had to start getting used to.
