My experience so far with every discord server I've tried:

>We are a laid-back, friendly community! ❤

>join server

>everyone is saying mean stuff to each other like kys and no1curr, people are bullying each other

Are there any discords out there that are actually kind…? I just want to chat with nice people.

Whatever discord you joined must not be the same one I was in since it's far too dead for anyone to be saying mean things.

every discord server posted in this thread is going to have a bunch of moderators that's sole purpose in life is censoring conversation. it'll be so censored that no real discussion will ever take place and it'll just be emojis and lite roleplaying and "how are yous" "fines" because sharing a real opinion could invoke a ban, especially in a server where it's against the rules to be a dick. because being a dick is subjective and it can mean whatever the mods want it to mean, giving them extra free reign.

I haven't even found anything like that from ones that have super vague "don't be a dick" rules, but honestly at this point I think that'd be preferable to the constant trashtalking I see everywhere online.

I have some theories on this whole topic, why anons become distant, cold or hostile after becoming closer to other anons.

I still stand by my original statement that you can chat or blog post here.

How was your day?did you do anything interesting?

Discord is a proprietary service that does not respect their users, with the precedence set like that, why would the users respect each other?

I've thought of this too, can you expand on your theories? I've done it myself, not out of malice because I never get even close to others, just the usual loss of interest. Feels dickish but eh, some people take it personally when you literally forget about them and it's better to try again with other people.

Many anons are on image boards because they are robots or failed normal friends. The friends they make here will always be a bitter sweet thing. Many would not even make friends or get too close. Simply because its a painful reminder that no one in life wanted to be their friend. Or they were unable to make friends due to poor fortune or lack of confidence or lack of social skills.

I'd also venture to say those on 8ch have more self awareness than other people. Unfortunately that means awareness of the pits of darkness in other people.

Then lets say 2 ppl become friends then what? Travel across a country to meet a NEET? Or what if he is in another country? Then what? What is the end game of this type of social interaction?

If the end goal is to have conversation or exchange of information, this can be accomplished without getting close and personal with another anon.

If people want something deep and genuine, its difficult due to anons wanting to simultaneously preserve anonymity. There is also the danger of simply being open and genuine with someone. A lot of people could barely contain their own demons. Why would they want to dance with someone else's demons?

>Are there any discords out there that are actually kind

I'm sure there are, but you shouldn't expect to find them just by looking at who claims to be kind. It's like trying to buy a good car by just buying from the seller that says it's good. You haven't found a good car, you've just fallen for false advertising.

>>38763

>being a dick is subjective

You have a point but there's no need to go crazy with moral relativism. Generally, if an interaction results in both involved parties being satisfied with it, you're obviously not being a dick. If you're doing something that the other person doesn't like and clearly wants you to stop, chances are you are being one.

The biggest gray area I can think of is "tough love", which is easily resolved by directing it only at people you know well. Of course in any sizable chatroom any opinion will have some people agree and some disagree. But there's a difference between disagreeing and attacking. The latter is easy to minimize if you take a little bit of care in how you express the opinion.

Mod abuse is bad but that's because mods shouldn't use mod powers to tone police. Users should do that by talking to the problem user. Mod powers should only be used for someone who is disrupting the community as a whole (eg. spamming something repeatedly so no one else can talk).

>Then lets say 2 ppl become friends then what? Travel across a country to meet a NEET? Or what if he is in another country? Then what? What is the end game of this type of social interaction?

>>38795

>Then lets say 2 ppl become friends then what? Travel across a country to meet a NEET? Or what if he is in another country? Then what? What is the end game of this type of social interaction?

I would unironically travel across the country to meet a NEET from here. I go on random trips to wherever all the time anyway, it would be easy to fudge the next one slightly in space and time so I pass near them at a convenient moment. For someone I've never met I'd probably just hang out for a bit and talk. Maybe let them give me a tour of their town.

If it went well we could stay in touch and plan future trips so that we meet at or on the way to the destination. Eventually whoever lives in a less shitty area could help the other one move there, then you have an IRL friend.

>>39753

>don't know why but the platform just attracts unfriendly people.

I would guess because it's popular with people who use imageboards and gamers, both media where it is expected that everyone be unreasonably hostile to everything. So people just default to the same behavior.

It's not necessarily true if you care enough to be careful.

People who don't care about their info being collected seriously need to work on their self-esteem.

You don't have to be like cattle. You are not just a simple worker-consumer drone that has to be manipulated into doing bad and stupid things by non-kind people which collect your data to make it easier. Respect yourself!

On the internet? Try starting by ruling out all the places people assert identity. That soon starts the lying and backstabbing social advancement.

Communities on games I find usually either have little of this or lots of it, and you can tell instantly. If you're just matched up with a list of random people, working together for something, you're a lot more likely to find /kind/ there. Social positioning games can't spring up when you don't actually know who's talking.

In real life? Try taking up hobbies like shooting, or retro vidya, or camping and finding communities for those. A man who cares for something more permanent than social standing isn't likely to talk behind anyone's back.

Other than that, just try to find someplace where people aren't left-wing soyim. Generally, if someone has confidence in himself and his ability to deal with problems, he'll say it straight to you if he doesn't actually like you. On the other hand, if you get the sort of numale who crosses his legs while sitting and has no male friends, you can bet he's going to deal with problems like 3dpd do: attack your social standing. You seem to know how that goes.

>if I point out a single irrelevant case of name-calling in a post then I can disregard everything else

That's not kind.

>If you're doing nothing illegal, what's the problem?

I guess I have to repeat a little bit of something from my previous post since you ignored it, but, surely, you can bear with the annoying me, right?

The problem is that by using data-collecting services like discord you would be supporting a system that sees you as nothing more than a cluster of data. By exploiting the information (that is sorted into your "consumer profile) it has on you it will try its best manipulate you into doing whatever it needs.

How exactly that would affect you on practice? At best, you would be simply distracted by an ad that offers something to you that could pique your interest, at worst, you'd be paying for a fake deal to a scammer which bought an advertistment that made you interested in whatever he was offering. If you think that this is plain stupid and there is nothing that could make you this interested (where you don't even think about any risks involved or about the legitimacy of the deal), consider that the market is still evolving, the amount of types of offers grows, the algorithms get better and the numbers of people who would love to exploit that get larger.

Also, collected data could be bought by anyone for any kind of purpose. Such customers could be simple resellers, or they could be angry persons that would want to harm certain groups of people, but they could not do anything without appropriate information.

The main (also "official") reason why companies keep their collected data hidden is exactly because that data is a valuable resource. The additional less discussed reason is that people would freak out if they found out what kind of information about them is known and being collected (those people have a natural sense of security that could be disturbed), and that would cause a lot of problems to the companies that collect and use personal data.

There is a lot of unused data out there (called "dark data"), that is because some data is hard to fill a "consumer profile" with, as there is simply not enough information for that (this happens when people are trying to avoid leaking their data or they are barely using data-collecting services). The point is that the system is highly active, it is supported by the fact that there is a lot of unused data that it is so eager to collect; such highly active system won't miss its chance to gather, sort and sell.

It's a shame if you will not see this as a problem, but it's nothing I can do about.

After all, it is your choice how to manage your actions.

As you touched upon the great risk is that such data can and will end up in the hands of unscrupulous parties. Companies can't even secure something as simple as passwords, you can bet that they aren't properly vetting who they sell ad data to. From there it's a "choose your own adventure" of what unscrupulous parties can do with this data. Dystopian firms could use it to create social credit rankings, insurance companies can use it to ding you for not conforming to societal standards, black hatters could use it to blackmail you.

You could make the Discords more friendlier by reporting unfriendly accounts in the server for violating Discord Community Guidelines or ToS to Discord Trust and Safety. You help moderate them that way making Discord a "safe and friendly environment" in their words. Follow the Discord support's instructions by contacting an Admin about the problem if asked then show the Admin's response to support and the server will be taken down. You'd make servers friendlier by doing that.

This service has such a bad reputation and people who usually "shill" it on imageboards often search for a victim to humiliate among their vile circle. Despite having an account I've yet to find a reason to use it. Had an idea to invite those who feel left out and have no one to discuss things they enjoy without making themselves a center of attention but I doubt it's possible nowadays. Of course I could be completely wrong because I didn't even try, but the risk of inviting a wolf in sheep's clothing is too high.
