Wasn't meant to be a comparison, just a minor opinion on the game itself. With that said I played 3 less and gave it less attempts than 2, probably because I tried to at least like 2 but lost all hope with 3 and couldn't be fucked any longer.

I bought a pre-modded used white PSP GO for about $70 (no box, only the console and charger) on a mom and pop videogame store, but i realized way too late that it has been tampered with, why do i say this? Because i've looked up some info and it's not supposed to have a black analog stick, in every single picture and unboxing i've seen it's entirely white except for silver rings around the face buttons and the glossy L and R (both of which are faded on mine, or maybe were sanded off), the battery also lasts a really short time (3 hours tops), but i can always swap it for a new one and it doesn't bother me anyway since i barely leave the house, still it's a shame that i couldn't get a stock console, i live in the middle of nowhere and going to "the city" and back to swap it for another one/get my money back would take me 5 hours, it's just not worth it, it works perfectly after all and it looks nice, i'll take some pictures of it tomorrow.
Anyway i've been playing monster hunter portable 3rd and darius burst, i can't make sense of anything but the gameplay on both is great, i've also considered starting over in black rock shooter because my save is from 2013 when the game was released in english as a PSN exclusive, my PSP 3000 broke in december of that year and i basically threw it in a corner and never bothered to get my saves back until now , and i don't remember anything about the story, i saved just before a bossfight against a pink haired rabbit girl that doesn't take damage until you kill about 30 of her flying turrets and i'm low on healing items.

Why not emulate? PPSSPP is fantastic as far as emulators go and it has the added boon of being able to remap keys, which means you don't have to break your hand while playing MHP3rd. You can also play online, which a couple anons on /vg/ did a while back.

Settings -> Controls -> Control Mapping
You can map the PSP buttons to three things, be it on your keyboard or controller. I use both analog sticks on my controller for movement and camera controls and the dpad for menu stuff.

I bought a switch. I got zelda and dark souls with it. It's neat being able to switch between docked and undocked but to be honest I don't care the tablet's screen. I feel its too small but it might be fine for casual late-night-in-bed gaming. I have to also complain about the "controller" with the joycons; while it's functional it's a bit cramped/small for my hands so tomorrow I'm going to buy a pro controller.
It's been at least 7 or 8 years since I've played with a controller and I'm absolutely terrible with it but I'm having fun with zelda. I've yet to play Dark Souls since I feel like I should "break myself in" with a controller playing zelda until I'm more comfortable.

The Switch 3ds and Vita are completely invaluable to me, laying in bed playing vidya is peak comfy. You could move a tv or monitor to achieve playing in bed but it doesnt have the same flexibility as a portable.

This.
Handheld consoles are pointless for hikkis since their most useful feature is being portable. The only reason I can think of to get one is exclusives.
A computer that can emulate and pirate will always be superior.

I ended up picking up smash, but how the fuck do I get into this game? There's no in-game tutorial and every online beginner guide/tutorial assumes you have a gamecube controller (I have a pro controller). I've never really played fighting games and have never touched smash, but I really want to get into it.

I bought PUBG and tried it and my anxiety went through the roof. My hands were shaking and I was so nervous. I ended up getting 5 kills in my third match but christ I was ready for a nervous breakdown. I can't do it. I used to be so into FPS games like Rainbow Six Siege but my anxiety just gets to me. These games are so tense. Now I just play my switch all day with its relaxing nintendo games and indies. I suppose I'm a casual now but oh well. At least hollow knight doesn't make my hands shake.
Do any of you anons have anxiety and how do games help or make it more problematic? Have you had experiences similar to mine? I'm going to refund PUBG for $20, what game should I buy? I assume by the time I get the refund the winter sale will be over, so what's good for $20 or less?

4 years ago I really thought i could go pro in counter strike and i tried really hard and played it basically all day and all night and didnt bother to eat or sleep i played it so much. Thinking back I didnt really enjoy playing the game since it made me so incredibly furious and angry that I frequently had to go sit down or try to sleep to cool down because I just go so angry I thought I would start punching holes in the wall and could barely control myself. Not exactly what you are talking about but kinda close. Nowadays I just play single player games only and its definitely a change for the better since Im not about to crush my mouse every other hour. As for new games, the only games I dont emulate that I think are worth it honestly are games like xcom or Paradox games, theyre really good if you dont mind putting in a good amount of time to figure them out, or a JRPG like Trails of Cold Steel but I dont think thats $20

I actually enjoy competitive fps games quite a bit when I'm in the mood. I feel a real sense of progression and satisfaction that few single player games offer when I start getting better and have those brief pockets of whooping ass when i'm on a roll. I like knowing I'm competing against real people who are trying just as hard as me to not get their shit pushed in and just the whole game being in good fun. But aside from back when I had steady friends, I don't do voice chat or anything, I get too anxious and most of the time it seems to be shithead kids anyway.

Played WoW from WotLK to MoP but being a hikki and playing a videogame that requires normal social interaction with a guild and raid members to progress made it difficult to fully enjoy the game.

I get what you're saying about anxiety, as it killed starcraft 2 solo for me after the first year or so.
5 kills solo in your third game is a very respectable run though. I stopped playing PUBG solo as soon as I got my first win, and I doubt I could pull it off without a ton of practice now because players are so much better.

It's a really gorgeous game, to me it's worth playing to explore the environments and music alone. It's all fully voice acted. I've dumped 256 hours into it. You're gonna need a high end graphics card though.
that said if you're looking for challenging or deep gameplay you're going to be disappointed.

What's neat is that it works as an mp3 player and you can use maps without cell service so you can find your way around. Phones honestly kind of suck as a phone since you can just use google voice for free at a computer with a headset and have your hands free to take notes or whatever.

I play/finish a lot of trash that's not worth mentioning or talking about, to be honest. My OCD inclines me to see many crappy games through to the end that I'd otherwise rather drop. So much time I've thrown down, and continue to throw down, the drain on smelly trash, when much better experience are, but a few clicks away.
Here's the list of games I've finished since April 2017. Maybe someone will find something interesting in there. Feel free to ask me anything you might be curious about.

Yeah. I just hate the fact that for every Deus Ex, Shadow Warrior or System Shock I manage to play/finish there's about 10 crap tier indie games like Viking Squad, or Tokyo 42 that soak up needless time & energy that could be better spent playing something else. Hell, I just got done slogging through Immortal: Unchained the other day and it was a truly dreadful experience. Probably one of the worst games I've played in a while (certainly the worst Souls-like out there, even though it feels dirty to even refer to it as such) and yet I finished it anyway because I'm a glutton for punishment and hopelessly chained to slavishly fulfilling the random whims & arbitrary rituals of my obsessive compulsive mind. Mostly for completionist's sake and because I hate leaving things unfinished. And also because I have all the time in the world and got nothing better to do.
Instead of diving into something like Homeworld Remastered, or Arcanum, or Arx Fatalis, or The Witcher 2/3, or Skyrim, or Fallout New Vegas, or the hundreds of available ROMs & ISOs of classic games, all of which I've never played before, I instead, mostly play the short, mechanically repetitive, indie trash that fills up most of what's in my list. Crap like ECHO, or AER: Memories of Old, or Downward, or Styx: Shards of Darkness, and it just drives me crazy. Why do I waste my life playing games that are far inferior to other, better games that I've never played before? It boggles my mind. It's like having a gourmet meal in front of you and choosing to eat from whatever's in the shit encrusted trash can out in the piss covered alleyway instead. If I had to give an answer as to why, I'd say laziness. On some level it makes perfect sense, given my overwhelmingly lazy sensibilities, to play short, inoffensive garbage that I can finish from anywhere to 1 to 10 hours, as opposed to long sweeping games that require many times that amount to get through. It's easier, in a bizarrely masochistic sense, to play a short shitty game, than a long good game. It just feels like too much effort to sit down and play a game that I know is considered a classic and is something I'll probably like. It's almost like the expectation it will be good wears me out on an emotional level and playing something more mediocre & dismissable instead seems far easier & more doable. I have to be in a very unique mood to play a good game, otherwise I just seem to stick to the same sort of bland porridge overflowing on Steam and elsewhere that I've mentioned above. Anyway, I don't know. I just wish I wasn't like this. I have such copious amounts of time to devote to gaming and the way I waste, piss & squander it away like this, never fails to bother me.
I still haven't even finished Stalker: SoC with the OGSE mod, despite enjoying it quite a bit. Granted I got a bit too bogged down with the side quests (never made it the Red Forest, for instance), and the constant running back & forth between zones got pretty tedious (even with the addition of vehicles, despite how impractical they are given the terrain & enemy spawns). I think it's been like 6 months since I played it, which makes me sad. And then I go ahead and instead play shit like Attack of the Earthlings, or Solstice Chronicles MIA, or Tartarus, or some such other crap that I finish in the length of an afternoon. Why do I do this to myself? Why can't I just play good fucking games instead of mediocre ones, when the good ones are right fucking there? Why does it feel like too much effort? I just really don't get it. I guess the simple answer is that I'm too lazy to get invested in a long, complex game, or that, even if it's short, that its goodness will be too wearying to handle. At the end of the day, I just really hate myself, I hate how ass backwards my preferences are, and I wish I could slam my head into the wall until it somehow functioned properly.
I'd also like to get a PS4 at some point. Bloodborne and The Last Guardian are two games I'd really like to check out, but I know I probably never will. I got the time, I got the money, but I just don't have the excitement or the willpower to make it happen. Easier to just slump back down into the alley.

Well one advantage of having those preferences is that sometimes you could even find some rare gem among that pile of trash. Though maybe you should try to find another time waster like idk reading books, making miniature boat models.archiving porn whatever it doesn't really matter as long you can "swap" the scenery for a bit so you can remember why you started on that path.

>Well one advantage of having those preferences is that sometimes you could even find some rare gem among that pile of trash.
Yes, I suppose that's true. Vaporum & Ghost of a Tale were two such recent games that somewhat fit that category, I suppose. They sure don't come along often for me though, with "rare" certainly being the best way to describe it. On one hand you can certainly appreciate a good game a lot of more once they do present themselves, but on the other you're also so worn out from slogging through crap that you're too tired to derive joy/satisfaction from anything, even if it's good. What a predicament to be in.
>Though maybe you should try to find another time waster like idk reading books, making miniature boat models
Nope. Too lazy & don't have the energy. I'm far too used to instant gratification to swap it out for slow, boring crap like that. Hell, I haven't even read a book (not counting graphic novels & manga) in like 12-14 years. Last one I tried to get through was Hyperion, by Dan Simmons. It was actually pretty good and had me pretty gripped and interested to see it through, but right around the half way point (when they're in that boat that sails above the tall grass) I just stopped. My attention wanders and random thoughts will start to intrude as I'm reading and I end up having to re-read pages about 20 fucking times so I can visualize everything perfectly to the smallest detail in my brain, mostly as a result of my OCD, which itself is a very exhausting process, and all together it's just too much. My mind just won't give me a moment's peace. It's hopeless. Same would be true for any other more traditional hands on hobby. For or better or worse, modern entertainment is all I have to work with.
>archiving porn
Never saw this as a hobby, but man have I done a lot of it. I've probably spent well over 1000 hours just browsing rule34, XVideos & Pornhub, among many other websites, just adding stuff to my encrypted porn vault. It really is quite a time killer now that you mention it. I can only do it when I'm edging though, which I can manage to keep up for a couple hours now. Otherwise it's too boring.
>as long you can "swap" the scenery for a bit so you can remember why you started on that path.
It's far too late for that, but I appreciate you trying to help, nonetheless. Sometimes problems like this don't have answers. You're simply at the mercy of them until you die. It is what it is.

It's been about a year and a half since I last had the motivation and commitment to consistently play video games. Mostly spend my time these days mindlessly refreshing forums and watching anime.

i quit videogames when i left a gaming discord like a year ago and havent played anything since because without anyone forcing me into it i simply have no motivation to play. my daily routine is slowly becoming mind numbing stale and i really want to get back into videogames but im not sure where to start. i was thinking maybe an mmo because the level up grind is enough to motivate me to continue playing. what kind of mmos are good right now? i played wow and trying to decide between private vanilla server or retail, or maybe a totally different mmo altogether, like maybe elder scrolls online. anyone here play any mmos or should i look into other games like the witcher series? im also open to broading my horizon with types of games i never played so far, like visual novels or hidden gems.

i've played alot of wow private servers. there are a few good ones out right now, but none of them are "fresh". Which basically just means the servers have been out for a while and the populations have dwindled down. The most popular one you can play right now is netherwing TBC. Blizzard will release classic this summer, which will be a huge event.
I'd recommend playing single player RPGs until offical wow classic comes out. Divinity Original Sin 2, Witcher 3, Kingdom Come Deliverance. these are just three RPGs that have came out recently that are a blast to play and easily pirated.

Man, I just want an FPS that captured my interest like when I was 12 with CoD and I could play for 15+hrs straight a day. I'm on PC and I've tried Siege, Pubg, CoD, Destiny 2, Quake, tf2, Fortnite and still nothing captures my interest. Siege comes the closest but I can only play for like 8hrs a day before I get frustrated. I remember the good times I had in old cod, playing SnD for hours on end, grinding out levels/prestige. God, I wish I could just re-create those times, when grind was fun as hell. I think the only game I haven't tried on PC for FPS games is CS:GO. Guess I'll be trying that.

I'm trying to beat Contra without dying. Haven't played it in years, but I can 1cc it easily after playing it a little bit for a week or two. And now I have a great replica of an SNES controller, so my arcade stick isn't my best option for that anymore. Having a good d-pad again is very nice. Trying to completely master a short game, playing it a few times every day, can be very fun. I wish I could do that with shmups, but being pretty much on rails kills my motivation. It's difficult for me to play something many times if I can't make it go faster as I improve, so I play games like that too infrequently to really get better. Platformers, on the other hand, just let me hold forward and go as fast as I can. I like having that level of control, but that preference unfortunately seems to limit my overall skill.

It's been a pretty long time since I last consistenly played a video game, so it's a bit weird to get used to this again, but I'm enjoying it. I'm not sure what my goal is though. Maybe 100% the achievements? That still leaves me with 200 achievements to go. I don't think I really need a goal though. I'm having a decent amount of fun just playing it as is right now.

PSP GO anon here, sorry for not posting the pictures i said i would, but my phone's camera is garbage, please understand that my 2016 moto G is a $100 budget phone and i only own it because my parents wanted to keep in contact with me, even though i'm inside the house 100% of the time, and this thing was the cheapest, most reliable phone i could find at the time (i did not want them to spend $1000 on a gay iphone piece of shit i wasn't going to use).
Anyway, i bought a Vita two weeks after i got the PSP. I received a bit of money (plus other stuff) for my birthday and i decided i wanted to play some atelier and neptunia on my bed. I managed to find a premodded OLED model with original charger, 32GB SD card, a 3.0 SD2Vita, a 4GB memory card and acrylic case for $145, no box but who cares, it's not new anyway. It proved to be an excellent purchase, everything my PSP did this thing does better.
Since i ended up using the PSP less and less i somehow left the charger on my pants and when mom washed them it got ruined, so i tried charging it with the Vita's brick (solely to transfer saves, this thing does not have a SD card) because it had the same voltage and a quick google search told me it was compatible. What an horrible mistake, the PSP turned on by itself and it felt extremely hot from the back, so i opened it and the battery was swollen, i panicked and removed it as fast as i could. I ended up ruining the R trigger in the process (broke the ribbon cable), fixing it would set me back around $40 and i'd rather fix my old 3000 model instead so that's effectively $80 dollars down the drain. I knew i should have bought the clear blue 2DS instead.
The refurbished O3DS i've had since 2013 ended up dying that same week, i was playing pokemon and wanted to take a piss, so i put it in sleep mode and when i came back i wasn't able to turn it on again. I reseated the battery, removed it and ran power directly from the charger, opened it and cleaned the internals. Nothing worked, so i left it in a drawer for roughly 5 months. A couple days ago i was reading something on gamefaqs , some guy with a hacked O3DS had the same problem and he fixed it by blowing air into the SD slot. It worked. BUT, turns out i ALSO RUINED the fucking triggers while i was cleaning it. So it's worthless for basically every game but pokemon, and i've only got pokemon ultra moon left to play. I'll assume repairs are gonna cost me around $50 so i might as well upgrade to the newest model.
There's a N3DS in the local pawnshop going for $130, it's the rare mario edition that was sold on black friday a couple years ago, assuming the console is in good condition AND i manage to scrounge up/beg for enough money i'm going to buy it tomorrow because i really want to give ever oasis a try.
No pictures of my Vita, but this time i have a screenshot as proof.

Fun game. I wanted the achievements originally, but I never bothered getting everything. There are just too many of them, and I don't like having to look up how to get things in games. I played the challenges, kinda mastered the game and then stopped. Maybe because I reinstalled Linux on that PC and never reinstalled Steam. For some reason the game makes my fucked up Windows 7 machine blow up, freezes everything and gives me a BSOD, or something like that, so I never played it on that. It gets to the menu and then everything goes horribly wrong. Even on a fresh install, for some reason this computer just hates that game, though I have been having random issues with it for a while, since the previous HDD died.
It was a better experience than playing the original game, though. Maybe the item combinations are just more ridiculous in this one, or maybe I just got luckier. I happened to find a screenshot of one of the early good runs, with some insanely huge fireballs, so I decided to talk about it. I don't have the seed, unfortunately. It was ridiculously overpowered. The crazy item combinations make this game. Really fun. I should play it more, actually.

I can only play Touhou at this point. I'm not sure what to emulate though.

I should play Touhou more. Maybe I can 1cc normal before I die (I think I got pretty close, because Touhou is actually pretty fair), that would be nice. Shmups in general are my weakness, because I never play them enough. Your computer is fine. You can run most emulators and some old PC games. Way better than whatever I had in the late 90s to run Nesticle and ZSNES a little later. Play NES Batman, Bubble Bobble, Secret of Mana, Pocky & Rocky, Super Puyo Puyo, Mega Turrican and Revenge of Shinobi, Summon Night: Swordcraft Story, Duke Nukem 3D, maybe Diablo (it doesn't run properly on 7, but it does on XP). All of them randomly chosen by my brain, so it's obviously the best thing to do. Maybe I should actually make a giant list of games and let a randomizer choose what I play, that could be fun. If you want games to play, you can always watch Game Center CX. That always helps. You should do that anyway if you haven't.

I've been playing through the Telltale Games roster for the past week or so. It's really a shame they went defunct; they've been the most innovative thing to happen to gaming for the past decade.
Being in your room all day doesn't give you the opportunity to make the kinds of moral decisions that Telltale Games' lets you make. It's really been an interesting series to play through.

I guess I don't have the problem of communicating to people over a game like some of you guys seem to. Sure, some experiences talking to others devolve into awkwardness at times but for the most part I don't think I'm bad at it. So multiplayer games work great for me. I've been playing Destiny 2, CS:GO, Insurgency: Sandstorm, Halo MCC, and Monster Hunter World and Freedom Unite and have made a decent amount of online gaming buddies.

Played Asteroids Deluxe for 2 hours after being drunk for 6 hours. Now I'm going to continue to play Morrowind again, because I'm a procrastination master, so I do everything except what I should be doing, even though I have no actual obligations. Today was a good day anyway, I guess.
