Going down the imprisonment route and escaping can let you boost more stats than simply going to town, but going to town lets you keep your starting gold so that you can actually afford a potion at the first shop. I almost wish there was a character creation that let you adjust your starting stats. Why can't you be an agile male kobold who can slide underneath the branches, or a stronger girl who can smash through? Presently, your stats get slightly adjusted based on your gender.
