The problem is not that it is not jap, the problem is that it IS inferior. Doesn't take a genius to notice the differences. Art style is often inferior, stories are generally bland, often heavily charged with leftist ideology or outright shit, and the people responsible for these works seem like they all came from the same tumblr cesspit. Also patreon.
Now of course, among jap stuff you can also come across similar shit, but there's a lot of instances of it being done right, much more so than in the west where if you were to find such a thing you'd cherish it for the rest of your days while making sure to nofap for a few days each time before you rub one out to it to make sure you'd enjoy it as fully as you possibly can.
My point is that japs are much more competent in general, and not only are the products themselves often trash in the west, the general environment surrounding them is a cesspool when creativity, ingenuity, and originality are concerned. Games like Breeding Season also showed us that there's a bunch of greedy fucks in it only for the money with barely any passion for what they're doing. And seeing how patreon is used to milk people with very little content produced in return, it's no stretch of the imagination to think that the phenomenon may be more widespread than just one game.
So really, it is only logical for one to be wary of western stuff. I don't see a reason not to be. I feel much more at home among jap shit, because even when said shit is not great it still has something interesting or unique to contribute. And I think that is because japs generally don't allow themselves to shit out products that have no point outside of making money, as strange as it may seem when their modern society is so capitalistic and materialistic. Call it a conscience, social pressure, or an actual drive, they seem to understand what they're doing and give a shit about it. Something that I've yet to find as the norm among western porn games. I could even go on to say roughly the same things about the video games industry as a whole, but if you're truly from here you likely browse /v/, and if so I don't think I have to explain to you how quality keeps on deteriorating as trends are adopted that the west is pioneering.

Well there's your first problem anon VNs aren't games. Yeah, you have your stand outs like "Tears to Tiaras" or "Utawarerumono", but you'll find most VNs don't even have real choices. In the case of F/SN most choices just lead to a bad ends and shit like that. Shit like "Katawa Shoujo" and "Doki Doki" aren't much different honestly. Routes are just set paths were the game has you believe the choices your making have any impact. Your choices don't matter from the get go you always had to pick X option to get ____ route's ending. With that in mind your gonna find you'll get VNs like this more often than not, a set story with little to no choices, so my tip for that is to just enjoy the writing and art. That's the thing that sets VNs apart from books. "Visual Novels" are special cause you don't get to have stories as long as "Muv-Luv" with as many images as "Muv-Luv" in a book, and that's what make VNs better in my opinion.
