Can we get some discussion and recommendations of the wonderful kind of weirdness that only Asia can provide?
All genres welcome. Please melt my face!

I don't know but I found some Japanese drawings with the same idea
While poking around I stumbled across this amazing short from Yoshihiro Nishimura called "Z is for Zetsumetsu". Very relevant to this thread -- https://youtu.be/td-049cd66c?t=1h52m40s

someone on /rec/ identified it as Teito taisen (1989)
http://cinemageddon.net/details.php?id=116443
no english subs apparently
the story comes from Teito Monogatri which was also adapted as the anime Doomed Megalopolis... and apparently provided inspiration for the M. Bison Street Fighter character

Now this is the type of thread that will fuel my nightmares and most definitely get me interested. I'm having a hard tim finding good images for it but tesuo (my spellings probably off) has some great moements. I love how he keeps filling himself up with metal and steel the whole film great stuff.

Chika Gentou Gekiga: Shoujo Tsubaki or its more known and shorter title Midori is a pretty "weird" and disturbing film about a girl who gets forced to join a freakshow/circus around the 1920s. I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be a commentary on child slavery/prostitution.
It was banned in Japan after its first release. The film was almost entirely made by one person so the animation is a bit awkward but it is worth watching if you are looking for something that is just depressing all the way through.

Whoa nice one. That looks crazy and disturbing for sure. Is it better to read the comic first or no?

Never read the manga but I think it is supposed to be more disturbing and gory than the film.

I just read the first third of it. There aren't too many differences.
The anime is less detailed about sex ....erm, rape. It also adds introductory scenes. The manga only has a few lines of text about her life before joining the freaks.
A live action Midori was made a few years ago. I plan to watch that too sometime.
It was a great suggestion, fascinating all around. I've been mulling over the bizarre story (certain things don't make sense), the one-man animation project (some brilliant sequences despite limitations), and the phenomenon of ero guro (definitely part of "weird asia", although a tad brutal for me).

Holy shit Caniba is depraved - and not in a "fun" way because it's all real.
I watched a good chunk of it last night. The manga was hard to endure, many revolting details. I had to stop when the self-mutilation became more than I could bear to think about at 1AM.

Also I thought it was very Japanese when this sadistic lunatic talked about how he likes cute Disney stories, then he fell asleep holding a stuffed animal.
