ITT: Academic /film/ related stories
I assume i wasn't the only person who was lucky enough to study Film/Motion Pictures in the pre SJW times. Did you ever experience anything interesting or have stories to tell?
e.g:
>When it came to auteur theory aside from the mandatory goth chick writing about Tim Burton i was the only person in the class that didn't write about Quentin Tarantino.
>When being shown jurassic Park during a period on the history of SFX a student who was a self professed fundamentalist Christian left in outrage at this "moral degeneracy", 4 months later he would be removed from the course for attempting to rape a Lesbian girl on campus to "fix here"
>One of the final exam live study films was The Happiness of the Katakuris and one student handed in a single piece of paper with "I DONT GET IT I JUST LOVE FUCKING STAR WARS" on it. Surprisingly he was not Rich Evans.
>More than half the class fell asleep during Citzen Kane.
>The surprise hit was Perfect Blue by Satoshi Kon.
>When moving onto practical work and placement in the industry health and safety forms had to be signed swearing there was no chance of meteor strike, volcanic eruption of nearby nuclear conflict.

>The other camera was taken out by a fat goth kid who is literally always eating, he swears it was me.
>Camera is ruined, melted chocolate got inside the lens and gummed up the focus mechanisms inside as well as the tape wheels. Student will have to pay to repair it or replace it as per the sign out agreements and the goth kids trying to pin it on me
>Bring them to his desk where we see a mac covered in batman and undertaker stickers caked in chocolate stains
>Check in camera and he left the DV tape in there of his batman fan film he was filming
>Promptly let off the hook
>Use part of my Student loans for the next year to buy a Sony HVR-V1E and never have to deal with that shit ever again

man i'm starting on that line (hey it's not my money i'm wasting), and I can tell I'm in for shit like this. currently just at community college wasting my time with doing all the 'general education' courses schools require to create even more debt, but I've taken a film appreciation class and am in a film production class, just starting. film appreciation:

Who the fuck are these people that can deal with a regular class but have to mass walk out on a fucking movie, one that anyone can get something out of at that.
Like I don't even understand how someone who clearly isn't that smart, and I'm assuming OP just wasn't going to a British equivilent of a community college, could get through Shakespeare in highschool and then have such a response some cult horror comedy movie.
Also what teacher lets the students decide what movie to watch? It shouldn't be just fucking fun time to watch your favorite film with friends and they should fucking wipe that expectation off on the first day of class. They have the privilege of getting credits for what sound like little more than watching movies in the first place.

I'm about to start film school in less than a month, want to hear more. I don't know how it's actually going to be, but I fear the worst, like every class is going to be documentaries about diversity and short haired hispanic girls pitching their ideas for transgender romantic comedies and 22 year old girl "existential crisis" films. hopefully they'll show their hand in the first two weeks so i can drop out with a refund if it's too bad

I was in a scriptwriting class and pitched an idea about a buddy cop film with a jew cop and a skinhead in witness protection. Everyone in class loved it but the professor said I would basically have to turn it into a morality "racism ==== wrong" story or it would be offensive so I scrapped it.

In my experience it isn't that bad. This is coming from someone who just took a film major and a shitty college, but most of the class is studying classic technique and groundbreaking films. Just don't take anything that's gender-latino-experimental-film and you should be ok.

Not really film school I took a film and literature class.
>Literally the easiest class I've taken since pre school.
>I was hoping it would be a class where we'd watch different kinds of movies and analyze them.
>Basically, we'd learn about a certain genre and all the tropes in it, then watch three movies per genre
>The tests were basically questions to make sure we payed attention to the movie, and nothing analytical
>teacher ends up being pregnant and we get a substitute
>We go overboard on the documentary section since the sub didn't know what to show, we even watched a history channel documentary about the spartans
>Start Shakespeare, read much ado about nothing and watch both movie versions
>my friends and I always read with British accents or something to make it more interesting, while the rest of the idiots in that class read it all monotonous and can't even pronounce half the words
>Our original teacher comes back two weeks before school is out and the final is analyzing a foreign film of our choosing
>I choose Fires on the Plain
>Teacher loves it, get an A.
That class really made me lose my hope in humanity. We watched some really good movies, but most of the class didn't like them because they "were boring". They were also extremely dumb. I was never the top of any class, but I was probably one of the three smartest students in that class. I just hope none of them ever choose to vote.
