What's your impression of the crowdfunded projects you watched? Amateurish or shades of greatness?
I've only seen Blue Ruin and Indie Game: The Movie. Blue Ruin raised the bar IMO. I didn't even know it was crowdfunded until afterwards. It was on par with other enjoyable low budget thrillers.
Indie Game was not perfect but still interesting enough. I don't think it's as difficult to make a documentary, but it's cool that crowdfunding allows niche ideas or topics to be promoted.

Hey, I didn't know Blue Ruin was crowd funded.
my experience with CF films is limited to BR and IG:TM as well.
I wonder if the Zach Braff film he kickstarted is any good.

Fred Wiseman just failed (by over 50K) to raise 75K for a new documentary on Jackson Heights NY.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/220982260/frederick-wisemans-in-jackson-heights
This trailer makes it look like diversity propaganda, with more of an overt viewpoint than Wiseman typically injects. Perhaps that was part of the pitch for money? At any rate I'll probably seek it out anyway.

I aint a fan. I bet it's like 99% of every project that's getting funded (or promoted at least) has a very thick progressive agenda so blatant that even filthy casuals can spot it.

This is the problem with crowdfunding. People think it's an opportunity to sidestep "meddling producers" and let the creators build exactly what they want to build, but it's just as much catering to the market, the only innovation is disbursing the producer's risk onto the consumer while also keeping the profits to themselves. It's exploitative and pathetic, and as anyone can predict, it's just producing lots of safe, uninspired, trendy trash.

I wish you were wrong but that really is the case with most of these documentary movies that depend on crowd funding. A project for a documentary that goes against the grain of what is acceptable nowadays would probably be taken down in no time and anyone who contributes would be mercilessly attacked for displaying bad think publicly. I just went to kickstarter and found their page where they show off successful movie projects:
https://www.kickstarter.com/watch?ref=category_spotlight
>Indie Game: The Movie
We now know what kind of person Phil Fish is. Watch this movie and then take a look at what this person really is like behind closed doors.
>GTFO
GTFO is a film exposing the harassment of women in video games. It features gamers, bloggers, scholars, developers, and other experts.
>Brooklyn Castle
Feel good documentary for whites about a poor black inner city chess club beating all odds.
>MUDBLOODS
A film about the imaginary game of quidditch and the people who transformed it into a real-life sport.
>CALL ME KUCHU
Four LGBT Ugandans fight for justice and freedom on the frontlines of Africa's gay rights movement.
>KEEP THE LIGHTS ON
Ira Sachs' KEEP THE LIGHTS ON is a new film about gay life and love in New York City.
>I AM DIVINE wants MONEY!!
I'm not sure if this movie is about a tranny or crossdresser. I remember that she/he's well known for eating dog shit on film back in the 70's.
>Jamie and Jessie are Not Together
Jamie is moving from Chicago to New York in 2 weeks, to follow her dream of becoming a Broadway actress. Her best friend, Jessica, is bummed, because she is not-so-secretly in love with her.
I'm not cherry picking this is the first 8 movies I saw on their page where they list films available to watch on iTunes. I'm fine with gay cinema(there's a DVD of the movie Poison besides me as I type this) but this is absolutely ridiculous. You don't need to be a white nationalist /pol/ user to realize this isn't normal.

Interesting. I was curious to see if Kickstarter has started removing projects for bad press or political reasons. Here they apologize for allowing a pickup artist guide to be funded:

I don't know the specifics of this project, but it seems like they're sliding into the same culturally allowable behavior as many other popular websites.

Yeah he is an animation master. I'm a little sad to see him resort to crowdfunding, but I hope he meets the goal or it will be even sadder.
I was just thinking how it must be difficult for independent animators to get their projects funded. Most of them probably can't afford to make more than a short because the process is time-intensive. And then the audience for an experimental animation short seems limited -- festival attendees and people who will purchase a compilation DVD. There's not much profit involved so you must hope for a grant.
Contrast that with the old Warner Bros cartoons which were produced by a team of people in a huge movie studio, scored by the resident symphony orchestra, etc.

Legion M is another model of crowdfuding. It includes an investment element.
You buy ownership shares in the company which produces content. You get a few perks for your money, but you maintain the shares which will go up/down in value.
I think that's how it works anyway.

Jodorowsky back to the crowdfunding well. I've never heard of this site before.

<Psychomagic, an art that heals will be the most complete film on the therapeutic work of Alejandro Jodorowsky. It will show by means of real acts what Psychomagic is, its principle, how it is practiced and operates on beings. The people behind the acts are real suffering people and eager to solve their problems through the use of Psychomagic.

Seems i missed the date by a lot, it's a 2013/4 book. If we are not in a hurry about seeing a nervous man about to be chopped, i think i can post that in 4 days

Finally got my hand on it, Dance of Reality. A funny thing, every 2 days or so i checked on the book but it was always off, i snapped today and asked directly for it. Indeed it had been taken out on March 13th like the clerk said, the day of your post, but checking again we saw it was the date from 2015.
Seems some student grabbed it and never returned, we checked on the name and he doesn't appear in any social media nor the school. The clerk said she didn't realize it had been that much time since seeing it, so she concluded she had been "dancing" all this time. Didn't hear the rimshot, so i laughed without repercussions. She redirected me to another place i didn't thought about and got it.
I read a little, but it's quite extensive, still it helped me understand the link between the Ripstein guys and him... things are really connected between the tribes.
I didn't find the suspected reasons why he is like the way he is tho, other than the humorous ways he expresses about his father (daddy issues?) and his focus on genealogy (daddy issues) but one thing is for sure, he behaves, note by note, like our good ol' well-known stereotype of the eternal wanderer, subverting institutions and causing cultural mayhem wherever he walks. I don't want to make it political but he really does. At least he tries to explains them, brazenly at times.
Here's one example:
He found interesting how bullfighters purportedly saw the bull as the instrument/tool of their art/dance instead of the target, but symbolically destroyed it at the end anyways. So to translate this in a contemporary era, he announced he was going to front a rockabilly band in a cherished variety show, so he paid some musicians to play in the background and proceeded to fuck some piano up with a maul, ending with him mocking a crucifixion with the pieces. He called this a critique (it kinda is) back in 1960, but later on called it "the Deflowering of Mexican art", somewhat i can understand why he got kicked off several times. Rock was also frowned upon publicly soon after (this was true enough)
Then he explains the Cow incident when, after getting the ratings soaring, he claimed he was going to interview a cow to show it knew more of architecture than the national college (back then somewhat prestigious). He was denied permission after gov intervention and so he decided, thanks to some students (commies actually) to go anyways with a cow and do a show until some armed guards called him non-grato and expelled some of his friends too (making mime practicing a de-facto commie activity at national level, i am genuinely surprised about this one)
And the genital karate chop, of course, i read that it was actually part of his psychomagic biz, in short that thing seems to be a "theatrical healing act", imitating the old rituals and making-believe the subject's mind/soul that it was all real, justifying the means of all because his acts go into effect in the spiritual realm, not the physical one.
So he basically fondled this lad's balls for a while as he was feigning great efforts, told him in an authoritative voice he had no more balls and bang!, sex reassignment surgery done quickly, and it worked as it was all real in the subject's mind (yes, the guy really wanted to be castrated in public)
Somewhere here there's a holocaust joke waiting to be told

Oh so it's the book that turned into the film Dance of Reality. I haven't seen that one so I wonder how many of those events are depicted in the film? I had imagined that the public scrotum chopping would be more violent, heh.
I haven't seen Fando y Lis either, but reading your account of Jodorowsky's wild and crazy youth makes me want to go back to his early film projects. There's also video of his Panic movement performances Melodrama Sacramentral and Teatro Sin Fin from 1965
