Hey /film/. I'm really liking this board, so I'll do my part to help keep it alive. Does anyone know of any films similar to The Parallel Street (1961)? I'm thinking of sort of globe-trotting fiction/documentary hybrids with experimental structures and stuff like that. The only one I can really think of is Sans Soleil, so if anyone knows of anything similar to either of these, it would be much appreciated

Interesting niche. While I haven't seen The Parallel Street (yet), Greenaway's early feature The Falls popped into my head. Perhaps it's
somewhat similar to what you're after:

I would like to know this myself, The Falls is a great suggestion, Vertical features remake also by Greenaway.
Some films that I've seen that have given me a similar feeling are Warsaw bridge, The hart of london, Landscape Suicide and Wax: the discovery of television among the bees, some Michael Snow too maybe. The parallel street is one of my top 5 films and I've yet to see anything of this type that is this good.

>>2652>>2667Nice, these are good suggestions, thanks! I have only seen a couple segments from The Falls, and none of the other films, they all look pretty interesting.
>>2654I wasn't a huge fan of F for Fake, although I can see where you're coming from

YouTube embed. Click thumbnail to play. The concept of subjective interpretations and the seemingly futile search for coherence is also found in The Hypothesis of the Stolen Painting. But that does not use any documentary footage.
I would also recommend Bodysong which takes you through a journey of stock footage.

Medium Cool?
No globetrotting, but it mixes fiction and documentary by placing actors in the midst of real news events (which took some foresight). I'm not sure the movie works as a whole or says anything significant, but it was a respectable attempt to do something different.
The chaos and confusion of 1968 is interesting because of the apparent similarities with today. I'll quote someone from IMDb:
> The Film 'Gets' How the World Feels to Me Today
> Everything is running in different directions, the world is breeding crazies, and all the media seems able to do is add paranoia and misinformation to the mix.
Since the movie was rated X upon release, here's the most salacious scene. (It's pretty innocent.)

it's similar structure, poetic voice over documentary about life and stuff. This genre is called eassy films.

Ouroboros (2017)
>globe trotting
>experimental structures
>fiction/documentary hybrid
Ouroboros is classified by some people as a documentary. I'd push back on that. Calling it a "fiction/documentary hybrid" is better, but still not a perfect description. The director has a visual arts background and this film is more conceptual than genre-based.
You probably won't fully understand this film unless you read an interview with the director.
