I watched Voskhozhdeniye and Bao gio cho den thang muoi, the first was alright and the second one was exceptional. So much so I tried finding one of his other films he made called The Season of Guavas, but public trackers have let me down again. I already read the synopsis it sounds bretty good, so now I must have it. Thanks for showing me something I probably wouldn't have found on my own.

Sorry, I just woke up.

Voskhozhdeniye:
A Russian unit is attacked by German "terminators" and are sent back into a forest. They elect two ment to find some food. They kill someone else's lamb. The man with atrophied face gets into a firefight and wounded. Both men eventually get caught at a woman's house, all three get sent to an internment camp. four of them are hanged, including a little girl, the woman that harbored them, the man they stole the lamb from, and the wounded soldier. The second soldier gets away by asking to be in the German police unit. He's haunted by this, constantly has a harrowing look on his face, and daydreams of running and getting shot constantly.

Bao gio cho den thang muoi:
Duyen's husband dies, she meets Khang on a boat, he's the poet. Duyen keeps the death from her family, Khang falls in love with her. The town ridicules him. Khang leaves for another town in the end. Duyen asks for his address when he's able to be settled in. Poem kite, ancient spirits, rice fields, when the tenth month comes.

Thanks, hope that's enough. TT TGE

the unfortunate thing is what is said is actually interesting in the context of talking about the US's foriegn policy of creating its own enemies which is especially relavant today.

the tradgedy is it kills the pacing horribly as the movie till that point gets gradualy more insane with society slowly dropping off as the movie goes on only to be brought right back out of the blue for that plantation scene and then the viewer is plunged from society into kurtzs madness ruining the previous buildup

This is very true. With the amount of leftism in Hollywood, you'll never see an American Revolutionary War Epic due to the following:

>no strong womens

>rebelling against control of the rothschild banking clan or as they teach us in history, rebelling against the tea tax and having a little tea party in Boston
>non-whites were (I hate to sound brash) completely left out and irrelevant in this fight.
>oh and America FUCK YEAH!!

A movie like this would rally the troops and bring in strong support for smaller government and reinforcing the belief's in the 2nd Amendment.

Our government would never allow a movie like this to be made.

It's interesting you'd say that in light of Spirit of '76, where the filmmaker was thrown in jail for years because his anti-British Revolutionary War film conflicted with the World War I propaganda of the time.

> Goldstein himself was charged in federal court with violating the Espionage Act, a wartime law that gave U.S. officials ridiculously broad discretion to jail troublemakers. Goldstein was convicted on charges that he'd attempted to cause insubordination, disloyalty, and mutiny by U.S. troops and prospective U.S. troops, and he was sentenced to 10 years in prison. (The judgment was later upheld by an appellate court.) At the sentencing, Judge Benjamin F. Bledsoe told Goldstein he should count himself lucky he hadn't committed treason in a country lacking America's right to trial by jury. Goldstein entered the McNeil Island Penitentiary in 1918 and stayed there three years; after the war ended, Wilson commuted his sentence and Goldstein started writing his letters to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Agreed. It should be stacked full of American pomp, gallantry and blind Patriotism.

Ideally all Brits (Err those Brits, not colonial Brits) should be portrayed as child-killing, treacherous, oppressive, baby-raping murderers who'll kill you and your whole family for a few shillings. Basically the most evil people to have ever existed on the planet (and a few other planets, too).

We'll have the main character shout FOR FREEDOM! whilst leading a charge against impossible odds, only to overcome them at the last moment.

The star of the film should be proficient in Native American skills and warfare to show solidarity with our Indian brothers-in-arms. This is their fight for freedom as well!

The role of the French Empire will be given a fleeting mention, and the Spanish and Dutch empires will be completely ignored. After all, this is a film about AMERICA and who gives a fuck about those Commie bastards?

I'm wondering who shall star in this historical epic..hmm..Mel Gibson?

Oh, and we'll hire an openly gay Director ashamed of his heritage, and finance it with the big bucks from the Rabbi's Divide & Conquer coffers. (Don't forget, Mel hadn't been caught disparaging Jews at this point).

What do you think?

On a similar note, I'm starting to think Zero Dark Thirty is going to emerge as the definitive movie of the modern American warfare state because of how shot to hell the official story has become and the generally lulzy efforts to use Hollywood as an arm of the government–putting out the film less than two years after Osama had allegedly been caught and rallying up the perception that these wars are actually doing anything.

i hate hollywood movies about the current war/invasion so much man. at least all the WW2 movies were like, blatantly propaganda. these pieces of shit now have all this awful stuff where they show a suggestion of something against the war but then they "justify" it. see waterboarding in zero dark thirty and when Bradley Cooper© kills the kid in the beginning of american sniper. so manipulative. subtle enough that it goes unnoticed by average viewer but obvious enough that i can't watch these movies without wanting to self righteously shake my head and call everyone sheep like the asshole i am

if I was a genius satirist, american sniper is the movie i would have made. my favorite part was when he saw 9/11 on TV and immediately went to sign up for the navy seals

I remember reading a few years ago that "anti-war" war films had usually flopped. The article cited Jarhead as one example. It seems like there were some others made in response to the Iraq invasion.

I'd say there's more of a pro-military sentiment than a decade ago – or at least more ambivalence to war – both in the general public and in the film industry.

> subtle enough that it goes unnoticed by average viewer

Goebbels said something like the most effective kind of propaganda doesn't beat you over the head, but it's subtle enough so you think you're reaching your own conclusion.

yeah, that's exactly it. these movies also seem to have an aspect what I would call manufactured controversy where enough people will respond positively and enough will respond negatively and then go argue about it on social media, leading to tremendous publicity and profits (american sniper grossed $534,326,372 worldwide)

Also George Washington might be fun to portray as a terrible general, great spymaster, and having the devil's own luck. Apparently they realised bullets couldn't hit him so they shot his horse instead.

What do you guys knows about WWII films set outside the usual places? The thread on the Japanese military had a few good suggestions

Northern Africa doesn't get a lot of attention. I've seen this one with Bogart driving a tank around the sand dunes but that's about it

The Hill (1965) is about allied prisoners in an allied prison in North Africa.

71: Into the Fire is about the Korean War, but the unusual location happens to be a girl's high school defended by a bunch of student soldiers.

great one, but it's not much about the war itself as about its effects on the people who faced it

What do you guys know about Jerzy Hoffman? He made a lot of historical war epics in Poland

Colonel Wolodyjowski (1969) aka Pan Wolodyjowski

>In 1668 Polish colonel Michael Wolodyjowski, who recently retired to a monastery, is recalled to active duty and takes charge of Poland's eastern frontier defenses against invading Tatar hordes and Ottoman armies.

The Deluge (1974) aka Potop

>During the 1655 war between Protestant Sweden and Catholic Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth some Polish-Lithuanian nobles side with Swedish king Charles X Gustav while others side with the Polish king Jan Kazimierz.

With Fire and Sword (1999) aka Ogniem i mieczem

>An epic story about the Ukrainian uprising against the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth magnates in the 17th Century.

Army of Valhalla (2003) aka Stara basn. Kiedy slonce bylo bogiem

>In the 9th century, a tyrant oppresses pre-Christian Slavic tribes living on the Polish lands. They must unite for the common future.

Battle of Warsaw 1920 (2011) aka 1920 Bitwa Warszawska

>The First Polish 3D Feature Film! Poland's winning battle against Soviet Russia as seen through the eyes of two young protagonists, Ola and Jan. She is a Warsaw cabaret dancer, while he is a cavalry officer and poet who believes in socialist ideals.

The last two have poor ratings but I'd like to see the others
