Les Destins de Manoel - a very cool 3 part miniseries by Raoul Ruiz where a boy lives through similar events on alternate timelines. Different choices produces different "destinies"
Neco z Alenky - Svankmajer's Alice in Wonderland. I wasn't as impressed as I expected but it's still a fun watch and an essential adaptation
Jeux interdits AKA Forbidden Games - early classic by Rene Clement

Lucile Hadzihalilovic is one active director who focuses a lot on childhood. I wonder what personal experience drives her interest in the subject. Maybe someone here knows an interview where she explains it?
Her first film resembles a bleak Gaspar Noe effort. From what I saw the child's experience was unpleasant.
Innocence and Evolution take a departure into a fantasy version of our own world. In each film, the children are raised in a controlled environment. They're sometimes treated more like property than human beings. Individuals are expected to conform to the system in place. This erosion of identity is reiterated by the characters' donning of uniforms. Sometimes this system is beneficial to the individual, other times it's definitely not.
For whatever reason these two films both have pedo bait. Nothing too creepy but it's still there.
My guess is the life experiences she draws upon to make her films are
1- boarding school
2- diddled at age 10
Regardless she's developed a unique, interesting aesthetic and I enjoy watching her career progress

Not bad. Can kids handle subtitles?
I don't want to encourage anyone to spend their youth in front of a TV screen, but I remember enjoying these when I was younger

A Story of Children and Film is the world's first movie about kids in global cinema. It's passionate, poetic, portrait of the adventure of childhood: its surrealism, loneliness, fun, destructiveness and stroppiness: as seen through 53 great films from 25 countries. A story of children and film is an eye opener, a landmark film and a celebration of both childhood and the movies.

I feel like coming-of-age films could be in a different category than Kid Kino, but here's a comfy one from the USSR. A boy aspires to be a drummer while struggling with his first romantic relationship.
I particularly like the mellow groove here, music that's right up my alley. I still haven't figured out the name of this band.

Tarkovski is quintessential when it comes to portaying kids in film. It is actually one of his characteristics. I'm at the moment writing a text about the relationship of kids and tarkovski's films. There is no andrei film that doesn't touch the topic.
