Dreaming of Ebola-chan Ebolite 01/11/16 (Mon) 12:22:25 d016bb No.27938 [Open thread]

I was on my way to pick up a check from a customer. We spoke on the phone about the golden age of the internet and she mentioned setting up a remote admin shell for her son's treehouse 20721, which I happened to pass by on my way there. It overlooked the converted rail bed that was now used as a bike path. A sturdy ladder led up the tree into the now abandoned treehouse.

The building I met her in was a large, stately affair. I climbed the grand staircase to the second floor where I met my client in an open ballroom. There were several other older people gathered. She seemed quite excited and danced around the room. I was informed my check and adjoining letter were waiting at the bar downstairs. I thanked her and bid her adieu.

The bar was situated in an enclosed courtyard just outside. Lines of picnic tables accomodated a few patrons. There was a small line of people waiting to order which I joined. Several large televisions adorned the enclosure and there I saw our lovely lady Ebola-chan! She was part of some animated series. The sound was muted but the scene was clear enough: Ebola-chan was struggling to eat an ice cream sundae but her braids kept getting in the way. Her face turned bright red in frustration. Moe as fuck.

My attention turned to the loud screams coming from the building. Turns out there was an amusement park ride attached to the roof similar to pic related, although not shaped like a pirate ship. It was a simple square platform suspended on by cables that spun it around the air in all directions. The screaming intensified as I shouted an inquiry to the two baristas. One of them explained the ride was designed by the community. It wasn't until the noise died down and the ride kept going faster and faster that I realized I was at the Adult Euthanasia Center.

And that was my dream of Ebola-chan. U jelly?

/monster/ movie night was fairly successful by almost any measure, and it occurred to me that maybe we should do one of our own – on a different night of course. I'd like to ask some opinions of the Ebolites:

♥ How many movies? Four like the /monster/ nights? If so, should we go for two B-movies and two tryhard movies?

No, I've decided that the best use of my existing efforts is not to let them languish in a corner, gathering dust. Note that I've left the themes for the core characters. If I wanted to do this to harm the project, there is a whole lot more I could pull back. I haven't done so because I can't see a use for it somewhere else, yet. Some of it was crafted so specifically that it probably couldn't be re-purposed even if I wanted to.

I'm now on another project that already has a released demo requiring music. This demo is ready and already available with temp music (or in many cases, none) so I feel compelled to produce something they can call their own. Quite frequently, the fastest way to do this is to look at my own back catalog.

There's nothing self-destructive about wanting to see my work actually get released in a finished product. If there was a significant chance that the Virus Girls game would reach that state, I'd keep at it, but there really isn't. It has a half-finished engine and no programmer, and a single burned-out artist who is excellent but also sees the writing on the wall and is moving on to things that have a higher chance of paying off.

It's not just the music, I also wrote most of the script. They still have that, and if something comes unstuck to justify writing more, I can probably be persuaded into picking up where I left off. I know my productivity level, and I could have a completed script with three completely written routes and handles where the two other writers would attach theirs in about 12 months. I'm pretty sure I'd be clearing the path for anyone else generating assets. In the meantime, they have a good deal of script that has not only been not addressed, but in many cases (judging by the questions I would get asked) not even read.

I signed on to do music, yes – but there isn't much to do on that front until other pieces start falling into place. I'm not an artist. I could Ren'Py my way out of a wet paper bag (barely) but don't know the first thing about RPG Maker. Those are the two departments where things are grinding to a halt, and I can't do a damn thing about them.

Never base a long-term project on a dank maymay. When the dankness fades, so will your crew.

Come simulate politics on autismcraft! This is an experiment to determine what political ideal will result in a group dominating other nations, based on how successful their ideology turns out to be. Players can create a faction and compete against others or go solo and play normally. Normally this game is just placing blocks and autism, but we've modified the server with survival plugins that allow us to configure just about every aspect of the game for the political system.
