I actually liked the Yume Nikke experience, I've never been able to finish it though. I got spoiled about the end and lost interest. It presents a lot of weird stuff and leaves it up to the player to draw conclusions.

I Have No Mouth And Cannot Scream is /doomer/ af

though I'm actually scared to play it

I'm one of those autist map starrers now. I used to be FPS only

been playing Crisis In The Kremlin a lot

can't figure out Ostalgie: Berlin Wall for the life of me

for old stuff, nothing beats Hexen, Doom, Quake

like Fallout, but mostly NV

STALKER is very doomer

Rome and Medieval Total War are good, EU4, etc

Stronghold Crusader, hard af though.

Necrovision and Lost Company are not as bad as everyone says they are for FPS

Mount & Blade Warband

Iove classic Mega Man

Civ series is good

Disciples (the Heroes Of Might And Magic type game) underrated. bought the series on impulse

Jagged Alliance series

Command & Conquer, heard the last game was piss and shit, didn't bother

Tropico (I don't think I would want to play Pirate's Cove though.

Warhammer 40k RTS games are gold

Superpower 2 (only fucked around with 1 once) underrated, but hard.

for old NES stuff, I was addicted to Super Turrican for the longest time. both of them.

A Boy And His Blob I was obsessed with as a kid, also really dug RC Pro Am as a kid, and played the Twisted Metal games a lot, GTA, etc (Twisted Metal needs to make a comeback), Carmageddon, etc.

doomer vidya recommendations not that i can play them anymore without my whole body being wracked with sobs of despair .

My philosophy =

Immersion > Atmosphere > Harshness > Beauty > Deep PvP > Mechanics > "Gameplay"

i thought about this list for like 2 hours.. Couldn't come to any conclusions.. But then it hit me! As we all know, vidya helps us escape the horror of passing time, so I'm basically a SHAMAN recommending an herb to alleviate your pain. Here is what I offer:

<Impotence

The doomer feels impotent in the modern world - unable to enact the change that he wants to see in the world and himself. As the vidya shaman, I recommend heavy immersion. The goal is to distract the doomer from his own patheticness and hopefully to lead him back to nobility and competence (lel). If you are despairing, here is what I have for you:

>Assassin's Creed 1

>Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines

>Styx Master of Shadows

>Kenshi

These games show the doomer that a single man can make a difference in the world. These games teach the doomer daring and calculation. Hopefully this will lead the doomer to the rightful path.

<Anhedonia

The doomer often feels unable to enjoy the things he once did. As the vidya shaman, I recommend extensive depth. NOTE: anti-anhedonic vidya is not about making the doomer "have fun", but instead to submerge the doomer in complexity and discomfort in order to distract the doomer from his passing youth. MMO's are the obvious answer, because the social aspect will harness deeply repressed aggression and competitiveness. Eventually this aggression will be unleashed as the doomer grows in competence in the game obviously it would be better for the doomer to unleash this aggression on high profile Jews IRL, but he's too pathetic to do this . Here are the best MMO's for an anhedonic doomer:

>EVE Online

>Mortal Online

>Old School RuneScape (if you're a brainlet who can't handle the previous two)

All of these MMO's revolve around killing other players. Having played all three extensively, I can attest to their depth. The first two are played on a single server, which results in political butthurt between factions in the game. The doomer can rise to power in these games and feel as though he has accomplished things (while he is becoming more and more pathetic by the day).

<Political Despair

The doomer's only gift is his ability to see the truth. He thought that confronting the harsh realities of the world would lead to power and wisdom, but instead it has lead him to failure and confusion. The doomer is haunted by visions of horrifying wars, depraved pornography, and disturbing theological contradictions. As the vidya shaman, I recommend harshness and challenge. The doomer must be taught to persevere and attain the ideal that he pursues (lel). Grand Strategy is the obvious cure. The doomer must be forced to bring carefully made plans to fruition.

>Distant Worlds: Universe

>Dominions V

>Syrian Warfare + DLC

>HoI3

These games are challenging, but the doomer knows that the coming political turmoil will eclipse it. The doomer will overcome great enemies. I know SW isn't grand strategy. But it's redpilled and you should play it.

<i only liek shooters xD

You're hopeless. But try out:

>Unreal Tournament

It's free. I play it all the time.

Dragon's Dogma

>be an idyllic fisherman/NEET in a cozy seaside village

>calamity comes in the form of the dragon and waves of monsters, you are forced to arms by the dragon's curse

>travelling the land slaying monsters, you are taken advantage of at court by the corrupted Duke, bear witness to political power games and trechary despite the apocalyptic threat

>at last you are before the dragon, and you must choose between sacrificing your waifu or doing battle with the dragon

>once the dragon is defeated, he reveals with his dying breath that you are both only a small part in the cruel apocalyptic cycle and the world descends into chaos anyway

>after crawling to the bottom of hell you find the source of it, a literal gnostic archon

>by killing him you become a demiurgic figure yourself

>after countless years, you come to the conclusion that the only escape from the cycle is death, and plunge a god killing dagger into your heart

Someone mentioned Killer 7 earlier; I'd like to recommend the previous games in the series. 25th Ward is my favorite game of all time, and while it has a couple games that came before it, only Silver Case is necessary to play to understand it. Silver Case is also very good, and has some moments are too real sometimes, i.e. "Someone died in my apartment building three days ago and the first place I hear about it is on the news … "

25th Ward is an amazing work of Japanese post-cyberpunk dystopia, heavily influenced by the internet age. Key themes in the series are crime and criminality, government control of information, human isolation in urban environments.

Silver Case, Flower Sun and Rain, 25th Ward, and Killer 7 are generally referred to as the Kill The Past series, with some other games existing on the fringes: Moonlight Syndrome and Twilight Syndrome are predecessors that have never been translated into English, and more recently Travis Strikes Again serves as a direct narrative sequel to 25th Ward.

UnReal World. Very old-school. You play in the iron age north-Europe, trying to survive in a low-fantasy setting. Comes with a good tutorial, and an interesting world to explore.

First released in 1992 (preceding Unreal Tournament), it has been under continued development for the last 27 years, with the latest version released Nov 12, 2018.

There is no magic in this game, only rituals which you can perform to be favored by the gods. These rituals never do have an obvious, direct effect, but they do influence your luck later on.

In this game you will be tacking & hunting animals for food and their skin. Building a home. Fleeing murderous Njerpez warriors, hiring guys to fight with you. Get a dog. Raid Njerpez villages and finally eat the remains of your enemies.

You could also fish instead.

Mind you, the game needs attention and patience, but if you have the attention span longer than a 4-year-old, you will be OK.

You will also need to set your own goals. I usually go with the goal of being a rampaging cannibal warlord. That works out just fine.

>No Demon's Souls/ Dark Souls.

Whatever poison picked, either game can be summed up as enduring a dystopian dark fantasy full of despair and challenge. In Dark Souls, you are marked with the darksign, making you lose the very thing that makes you human and become nothing more then a worthless undead. With this new fate, you rot in a cell waiting till the end of days until an oppritunity falls in your favor of escape. From there you explore Lordran with a vauge understanding of the world and a reference of some sort of prophecy many before you have tried to fulfil, yet failed.

Those that quit the game because of it's hardships fit in the description of being a hollow, lacking will and motivation for continuing existence itself and slowly go mad in stagnation. It's a pretty solid game for /doomer/ if you like medieval things and a challenge.

>Kenshi

brutal post-post-post-post apocalyptic world (like, there are mountain ranges made out of molten glass on top of ruins of old skyscrapers made by atomic bombardment)with desertpunk animu aesthetics. some places are more doomer then others. for example Mongrel is an city made by outcasts on top of a mountain in a region eternally under dense, permanent fog inside of which mutated cannibals hunt. comfy as fuck. or there is a black desert city, a bunch of robots that lost their purpose sitting on top of acidic desert that melts legs off humans just waiting to die without any will to go on. aesthetically the whole game looks like ayreon album

>age of decadance

a very good and hard rpg. basically roman empire after the fall, except the fall has been made because of alien super magical gods fighting with each other on behalf of humanity that captureed them. now after all is said and done you are trying to find pyramid with the last :^) god inside to kill him/trap him/do whatever you want with him. there is a fuckton of possible endings and it is really affected by your choices.

To us boomers, they were the only games available for a long time when PCs had no graphics to speak of.

I'm having quite a lot of fun with pic related. I started it as a tutorial exercise, but I might turn it into a real text adventure about /doomer/ life. Also, Inform is quite a comfy language. Easy enough to pick up but also very unix-y with no soydev bloat, unlike twine.

Start with the IF competition winners

https://ifcomp.org/comp/2018 for last's year's entries, but all years are browsable. Modern text games have a more literary bent to them, compared to the puzzle-solving focus of classic text adventures.

halfchan had a good thread about text adventures last week, with download links for a lot of classic adventures, as well as newer games that stand out such as Violet.

https://boards.4channel.org/vr/thread/5519367

Beyond that, GET LAMP is a great documentary:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRhbcDzbGSU

…and the digital antiquarian is great blog that charts out the development of narrative in gaming, with obvious focus on RPGs and adventure games. Text adventures figure heavily in the early years.

>Played oblivion for the first time almost 6 years ago

>Made an Imperial skirmisher with blunt weapons, light armor, conjuration.

>Eventually find out I prefer heavy armor and swinging faster. Never really learned how to lockpick

>First thing I did after exiting the sewers was head to the arena, I didn't know much but I wanted the Adoring Fan by my side

>Do the Gray Prince quest, fuck around in the woods for a few days, get up to fighting the yelllow team bitch

>Start RP'ing, have my character sleep for the first time the night before I fought the Gray Prince

>Apparently this is how you level up, got to level 7

>Kill Gray Prince, walk out to meet the Adoring Fan

>Spend the next 150+ hours dicking around in forts and doing the mages guild questline

>The whole time I've been making up conversations with what my Imperial and the adoring fan would be talking about on their adventures. Wait three days at the arena literally every time he dies.

Anyone else know this feel? Anyone know any kinda old games like this that give you a noticable, but overall useless follower for me to daydream about being bros with? I kinda get that same vibe from the stalker games, meeting other stalkers on the road or having to huddle together to escape the weather.

The most doomer game of them all is the game industry. Since 2014 things have degenerated to the point where I'm no longer buying Western games, no longer buying from Steam, and no longer buying Sony games. I fully expect Nintendo to also rope itself in the near future. Even if I didn't get about all the leftist shit, this is the state of the industry now:

STALKER has a very bleak atmosphere and dangerous world, and the series' pivotal events have you skulking around alone in poorly lit abandoned underground facilities, but that just makes it all the better when you meet up with other stalker bros. If you play with some mods like Call of Chernobyl you can even ask some of them to accompany you.

I've only played Yume Nikki and Minecraft, never played the latter one with friends or mods and the vanilla experience bores me after the first week (or day).

Yume Nikki was good, I played for 3 hours at late night and then uninstalled it as soon as I kind of ran out of places to discover.

From the list you gave, the one I'm the most interested to play next would be Shadow of The colossus.

My favorite doomer character in a video game is Magus from Chrono Trigger.

"If history is to change, let it change. If the world is to be destroyed, so be it. If my fate is to die, I must simply laugh."

"The past is dead, it was all just a dream."

"The black wind howls."

"Behold, everything is at the bottom of the sea."

"This world is populated by cretins."

>summons an apocalyptic space hedgehog with black magic - just to fight it

I saved a bunch of other cool quotes on my old computer, but the hard drive got fried, so you've been spared more of my autism.
