What are some /cyber/ cities? I am going to be graduating university in a few months and then moving somewhere shortly thereafter. Ideally it will be a city with technology jobs, but your suggestions don't necessarily have to have that quality.
Current prospects:
Austin, TX
Seattle, WA

Downtown Orlando isn't quite there yet, but it's slowly heading in that direction. It's still chiefly amber because of the 80s/90s, but loads of neon blue and purple lights have been going up in the last five years, which is a trend I hope continues.
Everything is dirty. Lots of club nightlife. Due to a complete lack of city planning, there's always construction going on, desperately trying to accommodate the rapid growth, and ghettos are often only a block or two away from the very upscale joints.
There are high tech jobs around, in both emerging and established industries (robotic surgery, defense contractors) but the region as a whole is still very poor compared to the rest of the country.
This, I imagine, is how a poor city limps its way into the future.

Still could get more cyberpunk but my one note is this. Most American and Western European cities lack the capability to be cyberpunk. I don't know why but they are boring to me and don't have the style that I enjoy out of it. Be even better if Hologram personalities in commercial or media that is easily accessible sold in shitty shops is nice.

I think its more that "western"(specially american) cities lack a soul of sorts. Maybe its the bland culture based on consumerism or just the forced diversity not having allowed the formation of a character in the first place.

I live in New Delhi India and we got a place called "palika bazaar", its an underground market which would seem pretty decent at first as you walk in between an alley of comic book stores and thrift shops but as you go deeper in it becomes a lot seedier, the ambient orange righting and optic fibres/wires running all over the ceilings there are 4-5 literal deep web cafes with dedicated pcs (basically pcs with tor and bunch of restrictions) there's also a lot of stolen electronics shops, console modders, pirated video games and whatnot. And the funny thing is that its in the heart of the city which is surrounded by huge commercial brands and snob marketplace.

I've seen stuff like that when I went to turkey for vacation. None of them were deep enough with some way to dark shops. THe best I had was in the province of konya in the highly suffi district near a thing called mevlana there was an open bazaar which wasn't undeground. The sun was hitting hard so the shops were near one another with sheet covering every street from the sun. Once in a while by walking you'd enter a building and walk in for 10min straight of random shops selling random shit. Then you'd go out and end up getting getting in another corridors with neon. If it wouldn't haven't been the day, I'm pretty I would get a better visual from these neon. Overall, it wasn't that great since most of it was house fourniture and woman cloth.
I'm looking forward some picture of your bazaar, if it's promising I might consider an airplane ticket for new delhi in the next 20 years(hope fully it will "develop" itself like modern day china)

India seems like a cool place (never been).
As someone in Northern America, personally my goal is to get enough remote work I could live off it, and move to Vegas.
No income tax, lax gun laws. Recreational dispensaries opening around July. If you've never gone off the strip into the townie casinos and dive bars, let me assure you it's pretty schway.
And the cost of living is actually really low (at least by American standards). You could work for 10 years you could buy a condo you rent out and travel the world on the income.
Plus, you're a short plane ride from SF, Denver, Austin, etc if you feel like getting away for a bit.

Of course, if you want to be a total faggy fag and stay in america and be totally unschway, I would recommend either Miami (if you own a car) or New York City (if you'd rather walk/use public transit). It seems people are starting to either forget about the low-life aspect or misinterpret it as "city with gangsters yo".
Having a 10m² room and barely fitting a bed in there because of all the old electronics that you refurbished and repurposed is cyberpunk. Having to rely on cheap food such as instant rice, ramen or pizza because you buy too much tech is cyberpunk. Just having streets with lots of neon ads doesn't make a city cyber.
>>47145
Though, to be fair, Hong Kong isn't the only city with these traits. The poor parts of Tokyo are a lot like that. Also, you can find high-tech low-life in ANY big Chinese city.
Believe it or not, Germany has some light-cyberpunk as well, mostly in Berlin, Hamburg and Bremen. Düsseldorf may count, at least in the poor parts.

I was not even considering either of those. I was thinking HK, Singapore, Thailand, China, and any other near Thailand like Laos, Vietnam.
I have taken Chinese courses and I speak it well enough to get around ok, not big enough of a character vocabulary to read a normal chinese book though. Who in their right mind would want to learn Japanese or go to japan? I can't imagine.
Anyway, the issue I'm having with SEA is that places that are cheap all seem great living-wise, but there are no real jobs there other than dumb shit like English teacher. No startup or tech scene in Thailand for instance (the digital nomad scamster scene doesn't count).
Then on the other hand HK and Singapore seem really really out of my price range, but that is where all the jobs seem to be. But even in terms of programming/tech work almost all the companies there are big banking/finance stuff, and the jobs are really competitive. There don't seem to be very many generic software or much of a startup scene. Mainland china it seems to hard to be a resident+no internet+all the other issues, like lack of english speakers, whereas in HK/Singapore/Thai you can get around easily with just english.
IDK, just looking for some advice if any of you have ever lived there/worked there.

You're looking for big cities on developing countries which are the hubs for commerce and services of said countries.
Look for Ho Chi Minh City, in Vietnam. Hong Kong can be quite a good choice. Cities that are undergoing massive technological upheavals which clash with their social values and ethical morals. Inflation and other economic crisis are another spice to be added.
Look for Sao Paulo. You'll find cramped environments, lots of job opportunities, and a literal Sprawl that would make Gibson's mouth water.
I wouldn't recommend San Fran, NYC or Chicago. They might have sharp-edge technology, bustling economies and good opportunities, but they're deep into the century. As many authors would say, Tokyo was a massive cyberpunk city for it had a foot in the future and roots in the past. It's the same reason >>46969 states Hong Kong is neat cyber, the

Not strictly cyberpunk but a head shop I used to visit was disguised as this secondhand goods/junk shop. You'd go in the front and there'd be piles of coats and shovels and used couches and things, and if you went all the way to the back and down a flight of stairs that looked like you were going into a closet, you'd find yourself in their basement, surrounded by glass pipes and vapes and other paraphernalia. What keeps rustling my jimmies:
Back in the beginning of the last century, when Le Corbusier and his co-conspirators came up with this design, it was sold as luxury housing with intentionally low density.
And yet somewhere along the line the plot was lost, and now social engineers are trying to twist this formula into high density housing for the poor.

Shenzhen is a shithole. That's like saying 'I want to live in the mall'. Grow the fuck up. If you want to make cool shit to sell, then shut the fuck up and do it. Order cheap shit on AliExpress and get to work. If you can't make brouzouf off an Etsy with the cool shit you build, then you'd starve to death in Shenzhen. Besides, you don't sound Chinese to me, so good luck moving to a country where half the people hate Americans, and asking around for help. If you've got money, they'll treat you okay, but try opening a stall that competes with a Chinaman in fucking China and watch it get burned to the fucking ground. Why would would anyone support you, invading their turf because you saw it on the internet and though it looked cool?
Why not just move to Japan and get spit on for being a 'Gaijin' like all those pathetic fucking weeboos?
People in other countries are often racist, nationalist, and hate Americans. Why the fuck you think you can just move in and set up shop is beyond me. I'd be tempted to send you a fucking one-say ticket just to watch you get the shit kicked out of you, stupid fucking white devil.

I live in Sao Paulo and see poor people like the third pic starving to death, but every year they buy a new smartphone, a new notebook and even a new car (that costs a lot here cause taxes). I knew people who change their phone every 2 months just to get the "new technology" or to experiment stuff that their old phone hadn't. Kinda "high tech, low life" in the third world parameters.
And there are also the "good" parts of the city, with new buildings every week, rich malls and people spending more money. Guys from the suburb works in this part of the city and spend 2 hours in a bus and/or subway to get in the job because the city is large and the traffic is pure chaos.
It would be good if we could import stuff from other countries more easily and improve our technology. Just more neons and skyscrapers and Sao Paulo would be a real /cyber/ metropolis.
