How the fuck can any drug be "cyber"? Seriously, this kind of shit is why I rarely bother visiting this board, despite loving cyberpunk and really liking this board when it first started up.
Unless you're shooting heroin laced with nanobots, there's no such thing as a "cyberpunk drug."

Do you know nothing about nootropics? Using synthetic drugs to enhance your performance fits real well to the 'hi tech low life' concept. This can also apply to other drugs as well if it's in the context of the psyche of living in a dystopic environment. It's no different than those perception-warping aug hacks; instead it's just on a biological mechanism. In literature there is no clean mind. In reality… well… we have our problems. What I'm saying is it's not particularly about the drug, but the context.

Well. There are some pretty /cyber/ drugs. But they're not the kind you take for pleasure alone.
For example, apparently Vasopressin makes you hyper-alert and your memory sharp. Can't confirm that, dunno how anyone that doesn't work in a hospital would get it, don't know why anyone would really want it.
On the other hand, it's not what it is, it's how you take it. My drug is sugar. Normal sugar. And videogames.
>>30186
Vaping interests me.
Overall though, it's stupid to take a drug that'll leave you with less afterwards. There's cheaper ways to get kicks, too.

Research chemicals are untested drugs mostly made in chinese labs and sold on the internet labeled "not for consumption".
Some of these drugs are completely new, most get ripped off from scientific journals or patents.
Nootropics are made and sold in a similar way.
No need to declare drugs "non cyber" just because you don't like/know anything about them or the scene around them.
Nobody is forcing you to like everything related to cyberpunk.

While discussing drugs, especially stimulants with my coworkers, the topic of adderall came up. They were astonished that despite having a script that provides me with a huge surplus, I mostly just stockpile it and don't use it at anywhere near the rate the prescription dictates. So I shared the love a little bit. They're interested in buying regularly. I don't know how to feel about this.
The funny thing is that when I was younger, I was pretty staunchly anti-drug. When I got prescribed adderall though, I loved it. The side effects caught up with me, and after college, I stopped taking it nearly as much. And while I still don't like the thought of using pot (never tried it, the thought doesn't appeal to me) or harder stuff, now I'm ending up as a smalltime drug dealer. If that's not enough, they want me to buy modafinil so we can all try it, because that was what started the entire discussion.

The site is very nice and professional looking. However it looks like a rip off. It should be about $0.60 us cents a pill not $2 I thought. However maybe this is because it is a scheduled substance in the US. Maybe I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure it is cheaper elsewhere.

Schedule 4. Illegal to import true modafinil the way they are, but the analogues are fair game. I did a fair bit of research on them, and I felt comfortable ordering a sampler pack. They report that 4% of orders are stopped by customs, and they'll either refund you in full, or ship a new order.
If I can get it reliably at $2/pill, I'll take it. Depending on brand, some of their prices are cheaper. I don't want to bother with even sketchier sites, buying prepaid debit cards is expensive. I'll report back when my order comes in, should be about another week.

I've tried a few substances in almost every category (opiates are pretty homo) aside from hard stimulants up until last week.
MDMA, LSD, 2Cs. psilocybin, various RCs. mescaline, machine vaped DMT, etc.
I honestly have to say that out of all my recreational use and experimentation that classic crystal meth is the most cyber drug to me for utility reasons. I honestly never thought I would ever touch meth, but when it was finally in front of me (optically active high quality crystal clear rocks) I couldn't think of any good reason not to aside from being turned off by the wholly negative stigma attached to it.
I may not have consumed it in the most cyber way (chasing the dragon with propane), but the long lasting energy, vigor, and light euphoria coupled with slightly increased mental aptitude make this particular stimulant seem very appealing to hacking the planet and getting with the best instead of dying like the rest.
I'm willing to bet there are dozens of combinations of cheaper and less addictive substances you can ingest to nearly the same effect, however.
Too bad you can't just drink a fuck load of coffee and not feel like pure shit. You feel like a million bucks on meth and don't even look tired after staying awake for a little over 38 hours if you are fed and hydrated.
The novelty of most psychedelic experiences still feel cyber to me in their own unique ways still. Kind of like the feeling of exploring untouched territory or just the concept of exploration or being a wizard or some shit.

Disassociation when used wisely can immerse a person devoid of sense into a substituted mindset.
Your body CRAVES those sense and needs them to be filled. So introducing just singularly audio, video, touch, smell, or taste by itself will often satisfy a state of dissociation overwhelming so.

Cybernetics refers to self-regulating systems.
Using drugs in a predictable manner is exploitation of a self-regulating system (your body) to gain desired results.
If you get hardcore into neuropharmacology, you start seeing the cyber part of it.
Don't be that guy who thinks cybernetics is all EL wire and robots…

Every cyberpunk thing that's a thing has had drugs out the wazoo, from Neuromancer's Case being a junkie to Transmetropolitan's Spider being a Hunter S.Thompson expie, from progenitors like Alex from A ClockWork Orange with his vellocet and synthemesc laced milk to Neo taking the red pill.
Your cyberpunk sounds like… just you really. You all by yourself in a corner at a party telling yourself you're the only cyberpunk here and who are all these posers.

A "Better Than Life" chip (also called "DreamChips"). An illegal cyber-data chip which provides the user a combination of artificial reality coupled with direct stimulation of different centers of the brain. Though typically designed to provide a pre-programmed fantasy, the artificial reality need not be coherent, i.e. it can provide a totally hallucinatory environment. Chips are typically designed to burn out after one use, both to prevent the users brain from overloading from the sustained stimulation, and to force the user to purchase additional chips. BTL chips are psychologically addictive and repeated, frequent use causes permanent brain damage

>this thread
You all seem to forget that what you refer to as typically cyberpunk is the artistic genre, while drug use is a custom of the subculture, should it even exist (I highly doubt it).
Drug use in Cyberpunk novels is not meant to show the strength and coolness of the characters, but rather an indication of their loss of control over their own life. Electronic drugs extend this to the rejection of reality in favor of a cheap, easily obtained high.
If you want to take drugs because it's what your favorite novel protagonist does, don't. You'll get shitty stuff that has been cut by several dealers along the way to you. If you think there's something to be gained from the substances you consume, make sure they are reasonably pure. Grow your own ganja or shrooms, make whatever white powder you crave with real lab equipment. Everything else is just putting your health at risk with no good reason.
And, please please please, stop believing cyberpunk is real. It's an art style, not a way of life. You're knee deep in shit in your "free democratic society", and even deeper in the rest of the world. Don't dream yourself into a world that would fuck you up so badly that you'd think taking rat poison with traces of speed is a good way to have fun. Seriously man.

This coming from a drug user who is generally pro drug, I'm not sure drugs are inherently cyberpunk.
Kind of like how you watch cowboy bebop and think smoking cigarettes are schway as fuck and cyberpunk, until you go out and see the old lady across the street puffing away at a pal mal and realize you've just gotten yourself addicted to nicotine for no reason (or at least that's my experience). You might think stims or RCs are cyberpunk but then you realize you can go down to any pop music blasting, slut infested club and find 18 year olds sniffing lines in the toilette at 1 am. Then you realize it's not the substance that conveys a meaning, it's what you do on it or more precisely what you use it for. And here is my point. Just because drugs aren't necessarily cyberpunk doesn't mean it isn't interesting or useful to discuss them coming from a cyberpunk angle. It is very informative to me at least to see that only one person has mentioned disassociates in this thread, which I think are one of the most /cyber/ drugs out there. I'll try and be a bit more clear with an analogy:
drums are not always related with punk, but they can be and when they are they are definitely punk
drugs are not always related with cyberpunk, but coming at the idea of drugs from a cyberpunk perspective makes them relevant.
That's my 2 cents anyway

Seconding this post. People take the genre too seriously sometimes and end up choosing harmful lifestyles because that's what protagonists in cyberpunk fiction do. Case wasn't taking high-powered amphetamines because it was a good idea, he was taking them because he was borderline suicidal.

Wrong. Using stimulants at the right time and small amounts makes the difference between you being a regular schmuck and someone who can spend all night researching and studying.
Even if the toll on your body and mind can be negative, done correctly this gives you a serious edge over normal people.
The same thing is true about LSD and and being a DJ at a club. When you use psychedelics and stimulants you gain mental abilities and endurance you otherwise wouldn't have. This opens up your options.

me and most of my friends have used amphetamines in law school to get an edge. it's not healthy, but it works. there's a reason why even games like chess have anti-doping rules regarding amphetamine usage.
the only other nootropic that has hard evidence backing it up is caffeine with l-theanine (theanine won't make you smart but just makes you less shakey after taking a few hundred mg of caffeine)
these days i alternate between moda and adrafanil but more as a replacement for coffee as a morning pick-up than for any nootropic effect. i think a lot of people who claim -afinil makes you smarter are simply more awake and aware. you would get the same effect sleeping properly every night assuming there's nothing wrong with you.

Destroying your mind is not "cyber" - expanding it is.
Weed, LSD, shrooms, maybe Ecstasy if you can find a decent test kit.
And everything on that list except weed is a "sometimes food" - every few months, not every few days.
Personally I'm too paranoid to buy a test kit with my credit card and local head shops don't sell them, so I've stuck to weed + some truffles I scored in good old Amsterdam.
I'd try LSD if offered in a safe setting but it's usually in the middle of a big event and it seems rude to just take it from someone then save for later.

ANy drug can be /cyber/ with the right delivery method. I've been making my own vape juice using THC distillate and unflavored e-juice without Nicotine for a while now, flavors can be added too, if they're complimentary.
I've been wanting to start making tinctures as well.
Similar delivery methods can be created for most narcotics.
One thing I've had in mind to build for shits and giggles is a hookah-inspired vape mask. The idea would be to have a simple menpo style mask(doesn't have to be samurai shit or anything else weeby), with a valve and tube inside hanging down to a box or pack with a couple of pre-installed vape cylinders, one simply nicotine, one with THC or whatever your drug of choice is. You'd simply operate it by holding down the button or flicking the switch to your chosen cylinder, breathing in through the tube and then exhaling, allowing the vapor cloud to exit through side and front vents. If you're a giant fucking shazbot who wants "YOOOO HUGE CLOUDS BRO" it wouldn't work so well, but if you want to have a way of vaping multiple flavors or switching between drugs and not drugs it'll work pretty well, with the added benefit of having the vapor curl out like some kind of crazy space demon or steam powered robot if you design the mask well enough. I was thinking of making one inspired by the costume from The Guyver.

>I was thinking of making one inspired by the costume from The Guyver.
The live adaptation or the manga? And would you construct the entire head piece or just the lower portion with the exit vents?
I feel that lots of people have pondered on a concept like this, myself included, and it only makes sense for it to exist as the next overkill vaping device. It's schway no doubt, but how practical it would be for day-to-day usage is questionable, especially if it's as clunky as a gas mask. Then again, some would argue that it's flashiness is part of the appeal, so I guess it'd be most appropriate to wear at a festival or party where that aesthetic is warranted. I can't really see myself going out in public with one on, though.

I always thought the live action one looked creepier, especially in the second film where they were able to emphasise the organic body-horror elements. A company that I like called JToku makes mempo-style masks out of all kinds of shit….mortal kombat stuff, power rangers, classic samurai/ninja style stuff, gundam, and also a guyver one. I'd try to do something similar to the one they have created, but probably in darker colors.
