His threads on /v/ invite a lot of equally autistic people defending a sped using video games and toys to ERP with himself, so there's a lot of hilarious things to dig into here.

The situation with ROBguy is that he more or less puts on a little show while puppeting around game consoles and ascribing each a personality, and for better or for worse he's become part of /v/'s larger board-culture because what he does isn't in-your-face by any stretch of the imagination (he sticks to his thread, only his thread and lets it die of natural causes), and is generally entertaining enough to those who appreciate it to warrant looking in on it. He also enjoys mild nepotism because Mark enjoys the threads, but that's neither here nor there since the entire administration team only enforces shit when they actually feel like it.
Like most anything that gains traction on /v/ in some form or another there's people that naturally don't care for it, but they usually have the good grace and decorum to do something wild like ignore or filter it so they don't have to see it. On the other end of the spectrum you have people like OP who feel (legitimately or only shitpostingly is often unclear) that the thread doesn't belong on the board period because reasons and therefore must be expunged, in time-honored /v/ fashion of saging and demanding its removal while throwing out wild-ass claims such as that most of /v/ wants the threads gone. Since rule 8 was expanded to include avatarfags because of Mark's autism about 4AM threads these types have also tried snagging ROB threads in on that, but ROB isn't actually avatarfagging and once again Mark's grasp on his own rules is slippery at best so trying to cite a rule in general is self-defeating.
I, personally, could not fucking care less about the fact that one autist likes to make game consoles dance around in pictures, but I derive deep enjoyment and schadenfreude that there are people so upset about it happening they try to start a /cow/ thread about the guy when he's not notable in the slightest, and it's still sailing over their heads that they can just filter him. Funny enough the demand for forced-anon via removal of the email field actually worked against them on this one because it means ROB is harder to filter.

I instinctively doubted this and looked, and yeah, it doesn't look like this was what happened.
In the logs I've read so far, it looks like there was a consensus that he broke 4chan's GR13 (no avatarfagging) and VR1 (no off-topic posts), but some mods allowed him to stick around with babysitting because they enjoyed his posts. His move to 8chan probably happened around the time he was banned for GR11 (no advertising) and then GR9 (ban evasion).
What's telling to me is the babysitting, as AoC called it in >>>/irc/5224. Babysitting is a euphemism for helicopter moderation, where mods hover over the thread for hours to snipe specific posts and keep the thread on topic. Here, /v/ employs it the same way /cow/ employs it: to keep a lolcow's thread about the lolcow, and to keep him in his thread.
My question now is whether or not he can be trolled while under /v/ surveillance.

The bigger question is whether or not it's worth the effort.
What's going on here on 8chan is exactly going on in 4chan. ROB threads are seen as breaking rules and are given free passes for it, which only generates more hate for them and how the site is ran. The mods at 4chan flipped-flopped support for them back in 2012-2013, but eventually ran against them for ROBguy ban evading after they erroneously banned them (pic related is from chatlogs between OP and I_AM_ABIB who undid his ban). They eventually admitted their mistake and allowed him to stay as a result, but lost all interest in protecting the threads, eventually coming to hate them.
The point being is that what's happening then is happening now. You have people citing that rules are being broken and people not agreeing on what actually constitutes as avatarfagging, or whether or not R.O.B. is breaking any rules, and people becoming angry that the mods are acting partial towards them in spite of their alleged rule violations.
It's going to come down to this: If the moderators don't think they're breaking the rules, then they aren't. ROB threads were allowed to flourish on 4chan for as long as the moderation was on it's side, and it was in 2012. Things only went to shit when the moderators changed their stance.

That's still the case now. This thread was made by someone who has been constantly showing up in recent ROB threads posting pictures of Gerald Ford in the hopes that it would stop them.

I know about Anita. I'm just speaking from what I remember here and not actually checking about resources, which is why who I describe things will be really sketchy and patchy about it. I stopped browsing /v/ regularly two weeks ago and I feel a lot more in control of my life, like I gained brain cells by just not going there.
I wanna say the board just reflects the state of how video games are, but it really isn't. You honest to God cannot discuss shit unless it was a mildly popular game from around the 2000s. Only mildly though, if it's mainstream then God help you. They are the biggest fucking hipsters out there, if it becomes popular it's suddenly shit/tumblr/reddit/etc.
Actually that leads to another thing, when it will gain the average user something, they'll try and invoke wait they think as "/v/ culture." When called out on this, they'll pretend that most of /v/ isn't some sort of hivemind.
Just thinking of all of it makes me worked up.
