The industry went to 3D because of a greater profit margin than 2D. The only way you could make 2D great (in popularity) again is if Disney decided to make a 2D Star Wars movie that was part of the canon. 3D live-action was a cancer that lasted for 3 years just based on Avatar alone and it's going to take a megahit like that to make 2D relevant in American animation again. The market's tastes have changed. To be fair he is kind of right. The switch from hand drawn animation to flash easymode animation killed many of the production values that the old era had. Now I will say they did a pretty fucking good job with that frozen thing and I hate new disney now but I will give them props. Now there are some things that are well done in cgi and some things that are not. I believe that Disney always had a stronger case with 2d hand drawn. A lot of anime as well had had a decent amount of good works with hand drawn. It just looks better in my opinion. Though I fully understand that in todays world that kind of talent is almost gone and it costs a hell of a lot more time and money to run a studio that hand draws everything. I just hate how everything is shoved into cgi now and flash instead of being actually drawn well.
