To follow God means to realize that we are fallen and sinful. That no matter what we do, we could never bridge the gap between us and God's perfect standard. However, God still loves us, and in fact loves us so much that He sent His only begotten Son to die on a cross as the perfect sacrifice for our sins. To accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior means to repent of your sins and ask your heavenly Father for forgiveness in the name of Jesus, and to follow His way of righteousness.

Seems strange. The Catholic Church believes a Baptism should be done by a priest unless the person to be baptized is in mortal danger. Then anyone can do it, even a pagan as long as their intentions to commit you to God is true.

The Church keeps track of these things because you should only be baptized once. They will re-baptize you if the form is wrong or the intent is lacking. Even some "Catholic" priest have expressed their wrong belief that baptism is meaningless.

Was the uber driver Eastern Orthodox or something?

(Not him)

Since the Byzantine Catholic Church only came about roughly a mere century ago, your history as a Byzantine and mine as a Roman are almost identical. It's very saddening that you don't have access to the critical, recent developments in the R.C. Church such as the message of Our Lady of Fatima or the Divine Mercy Image and Chaplet but nonetheless, if you want to grow, develop your prayer life and counter the issues that hinder it.

Fr. Nix has a YouTube Channel called "Padre Peregrino" and on it, he has a "VLX" Playlist. He says it stands for "Video Lectio Divina" where he provides a video-guide to "Lectio Divina", a particular form of prayer that the Catholic Saints have practised for centuries that involves meditating on the Bible. It comes in two forms, one where you visualise a biblical scene as deeply as possible and another where you focus on a few words and reflect on them. It's all explained in the playlist. You can go through that series and start learning how to deepen your prayer life with God. He also has the Catechism "CPX" series which is pretty good for someone new to the faith.

On the Sensus Fidelium YouTube Channel, you can find a video on the Four Temperaments. Fr. Ripperger talks about how to tackle your predominant issues due to your temperament. (Are you aware of the theory? Sanguine, Melancholic, all that stuff? DuckDuckGo it if you must). I think the Temperament method gives one a nice way for one to form a battle-plan for attacking the issues that prevent them most from developing their prayer life.

If I was a beginning Catholic, I think these are the things I'd want to know first.

If you check the Sensus Fidelium Playlists, there's a couple more playlists I'd recommend:

Spiritual Warfare (protect yourself from the diabolic as that can hinder your prayer life and just your life in general)

Spiritual Life (have an idea of what you need to do to develop your prayer life)

I think that's just about everything for a freshly baptised Catholic although I do wonder if the Spiritual Warfare & Life Playlists are really good for a Byzantine. Well anyway, hope that helps.

*Centuries.

Marian apparitions have never been a thing for byzantine rite christians, and the uniate churches dont really care that much for things like those, since it's not directly "in their contract", nor is it dogma.

>Acts 2:38 "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."

This is baptism according to the bible. It is done in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins.

>Acts 19:5 "When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus."

>Acts 8:16 "(For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)"

More examples. This is how we obey the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

This does not address the mode issue. I am saying that putting water on a forehead does not constitute baptism.

Why would you say that? Were the apostles to travel about the world with one of your dunk tanks baptizing people? Water was not plentiful in many of the places there were to go.

The same reason I would say it's not communion unless there's bread and wine

The Council of Trent decreed that all that the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist, communion, requires only one species. For reasons like sacramental wine is often stolen, spillage, and the problem with transporting it across some borders, they allow just bread alone and decreed that you can't separate the Blood of Christ from his flesh.

So, no, Catholics don't say it has to be both bread and wine and the reasons are practical: some places you can't deliver the wine, some people might dribble when they drink it

Some places don't have water for your dunk tank, so sprinkle.

How much water do you think it takes to wash a soul, anyway? It's God who washes the soul, the species is water, the form is "I baptize thee in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost".

I mean, if the Lord can feed a multitude with a basket of bread and fish, He can baptize you and clean your soul with a sprinkle of water. Yeah, miracle.

It's not a question of "can He" it's a question of "what did he institute. The word means to immerse. At the very least that means a generous pouring like the didache says.

You can't do communion with chewing gum because the elements are bread and wine. You can't do baptism by sprinkling because baptism is an immersion. The entire symbolism is lost.
