1d34c7  No.826364[Last 50 Posts]

Essentially, the situation is as follows:

>the BO has disappeared

>there's literally no moderation happening

Hopefully, soon-ish the two weeks will clear up and the board will be up for claims at https://8kun.top/claim.html , or at least Tutor will be back to moderate this place.

In particular, we quote from the claiming page:

>Most boards will be given away on a first-come-first-serve basis, but large boards with long histories may require multiple applications from many different individuals before a decision is made, at the discretion of the 8kun administration.

I feel like, in the interests of the board, it would be good if anyone who's considering sending a claim email introduced themselves and explained how they intend to manage the board, so that other anons could properly respond and criticize, and all of this could facilitate Jim choosing a new, good B.O.

Mods would be nice to have.

Would the new owner change the rules?

I'm probably not charitable enough to be a mod; that is, I tend to see some more heretical post as simple trolling and not made in good faith. My priority would be not losing any souls that desire to be in a state of sanctifying grace rather than arguing with atheists who seem more interested in making Christians angry or doubtful.

Ayyy, not even the angle I was going for but you have a point there. lol

I like how he tries to deflect my direct evidence by claiming that I said "a 'what do you think about Buddhism' thread is equivalent to literal gay porn" when I made nary a mention of such a thing.

Yeah, the graphic NSFW stuff we see spammed from time to time here is obnoxious and distasteful, but it is indistinguishably prolific in the broader secular society and even the 8kun community outside of /christian/. I am infinitely more concerned about the person who thinks there is a connection to be drawn between the personhood of the Buddha and the divinity of our Christ than I am about the random coomer who rolls through hoping to get a cheap rise out of the Christian community.

I also enjoyed that last withering blow of

>I won't be responding further

Sure, because posting without saging is totally a principled stance and not a lack of rudimentary technical knowledge re: posting on an imageboard. Stay salty, my guy.

The biggest problem is having handed over to someone who has no experience running a board. As someone who has run a board on here for 5 years, I can attest that there is a learning curve. It took me a good year or more to really get into the groove of managing without micromanaging and establishing rules for not only users, but for Vols as well, and ensuring that there was as much transparency as I could give. There's also the issue of dealing with user complaints, which believe me are endless.

The second biggest issue is the board being handed over to an ideologue. A Christian, to be sure, but not someone who shows extreme favoritism. The original intent of this board was for it to be for all Christians who follow the Nicene Creed. I'm a Methodist and, for example, what if I became BO and decided that Calvinists were heretics and should be banned on sight? Or how about a Baptist who hates Catholics and allows the board to degenerate into "muh mommy mary diapah licking" threads? Or - even worse - a /pol/ack (lefty or otherwise) who turns the board into a NatSoc mouthpiece and bans all discussion of Galatians 3:28? It's a complicated mess and needs a fair, but firm, hand running it. If I were BO, yes there are changes I would make. Not everybody would agree with those changes, of course, but that happens every time something gets changed. Remember when tutor turned off the board logs?

At the end of the day, anyone who takes over this board needs to know that there will never be 100% consensus on anything, that this is a very diverse board with people from all walks of life, that it must be a safe haven without unduly stifling discussion, and that it is a Christian board for Christians to discuss Christianity with other Christians and occasionally field respectful questions from seekers.

Anyone who can handle all that, I'll get behind as BO.

>I'm really not what you'd call an exemplary christian.

Modesty is good. I'm sure you'd make a good BO anon <3

>>826401

Interesting post. Imo, moderation should limit itself to deleting off topic/spam threads. The ideology of the board should be a result of the anons discussion only, not of some mod opinion. Beside, it is called /christian/ and should therefore continue to welcome anyone that falls under that denomination.

Anyway, would you consider becoming BO? I'd be willing to claim the board but I don't have prior experience of it. I believe the best way to handle it would be to build a team of some people who manage the board, between 3 or 5 should be enough. I should probably mention that I am catholic btw.

>Imo, moderation should limit itself to deleting off topic/spam threads.

I've always thought moderation should impose basic quality standards. In a christian board in particular, there's also a strong need for banter quality standards. There is literally nothing more annoying than seeing a generic "Priests are rapists lmao". I mean, I could be more forgiving if it was at least a decent insult.

Basic quality standards are important without making judgment calls on "quality". Obviously something like "lol priests are rapists" is of poor quality and should be removed, but one of the hardest things about being a Vol on a board like this is getting rid of your own personal biases. A lot of people become BO or Vols just so they can ban everything they personally disagree with. It makes for a very unpleasant experience overall.

>>826477

Well, I genuinely doubt I'd be handed the board; but if it does happen, I'd set out immediately to get a small Vol staff.

It's basically a game of politics. If 10 people elect a person to lead them and 5 are conservative and 5 are liberal, then compromise must be made. If a conservative says, "I elected you to represent me, so do this!" and the liberal says, "I elected you too, so don't do that!"; then you reach a political conundrum. Appease one and lose the other, appease both and look weak, or ignore both and lose them both.

It's why a clear mission statement and unambiguous rules are essential.

This is my first time here since it became 8kun. I know I personally am back here because this board was excellent. I personally would like to see the board just keep on keeping on from what it had been on 8chan. Do we know what happened to the original owner?

Is it possible to perhaps just put someone in a temporary position until the original BO returns? I am just a little worried, I think, that whoever it ends up being would change the board so that it is not recognizable from what it had been, previously – which is presumably why all of us are currently back here again in the first place.

Whoever it ends up being: please don't change it too much from what it was before. A lot of anons from previously will find their way back very soon, surely (just like me and what I'm doing, for the first time, today).

All the same, whoever it is - I think we can all agree: gay porn is not cool and needs to be removed.

So for me:

>first choice

whoever BO was under 8chan. (can anyone reach out to that anon?)

>second choice

someone who removes porn and doesn't destroy previous board culture (so, someone who at least is familiar with what it was, and has been here a long enough while under 8chan to know what it was).>>826364

No, it's time to move on, because he and his cronies ruined charitable discussion in the name of Christ and charity.

True, but we need to make it absolutely clear that the BO must be Christian and verifiable, like they gave Jim their church's email so he could ask the elders and such if you are an active and loving participant. We also need to make sure no one like Tutor becomes B.O. again, so whoever wishes to become B.O. must explicitly state their moderating philosophy and theology and maybe show they have been active on internet communities and understand how such communities work.

>>826369

Because the B.O. allows discussions on anime and vidya which trigger you? Get over it.

>>826375

>>826380

Meanwhile, there were threads here, during Tutor's worst days defending Islam while many posts were deleted that were abiding in good spirit and produced discussion. But wait, there's more! About these heretical or heathen OP's, what if, listen now, what if the BO of Christianity is allowing those threads to stay because Christian anons have been writing some good posts regarding these subjects. For example, in the Buddhist thread, Orthobro 4cfee4 has written a nice comparison that I would hate to lose just because you want to ban and delete OP. What was Paul's instruction in 1 Thessalonians? Hold fast to what is good?

>>Blatantly uncharitable attitude towards Catholics and, ostensibly, Orthobros

No, just Catholics, especially those who affirm and support the Council of Trent. And it's a good, legit question too. There was a small, probably insignificant event 500 years ago concerning a little concept called justification, which, by the way, if you get that issue wrong, you go to hell, see the anathema in Galatians.
