>Nobuhiko Okamoto as Dale, a skilled, 18-year-old adventurer. He met Latina in a forest while on quest to defeat some monsters, and has since then become her guardian. He is normally a stern-faced adventurer, but drops his guard when in front of Latina.

>Dale is a cool, composed, and highly skilled adventurer who's made quite a name for himself despite his youth. One day on a job deep in the forest, he comes across a little devil girl who's almost wasted away. Unable to just leave her there to die, Dale takes her home and becomes her adoptive father. Devil or not, Latina is beyond adorable, and the adventurer soon finds himself head over heels with being a parent. But why was she out in the forest to begin with, and why does she carry the mark of a criminal?

'We Never Learn' Anime Premieres on April 6

>The official website for the television anime of Taishi Tsutsui's We Never Learn (Boku-tachi wa Benkyō ga Dekinai) manga revealed on Monday that the series will debut on April 6. The show will air on Tokyo MX, Gunma TV, Tochigi TV, BS11, and AT-X on April 6 at 24:30 (effectively April 7 at 12:30 a.m.), before airing later that night on MBS and on April 9 on TV Aichi.

>Yoshiaki Iwasaki (Love Hina, Hayate the Combat Butler, Last Period: the journey to the end of the despair) is directing the anime at Studio Silver and Arvo Animation. Go Zappa (A Bridge to the Starry Skies, Beatless, Myself; Yourself) is in charge of series composition. Masakatsu Sasaki (Saki, Seiyu's Life!, A-Channel) is designing the characters. Additionally, Satoshi Motoyama (WorldEnd, Oreimo) is the sound director at Magic Capsule, and Masato Nakayama (You and Me., My Little Monster) is composing the music.

>The manga's story centers on Yuiga, a student who is aiming for a scholarship because he comes from a poor family. His school gives him a condition: he can have a recommendation for a scholarship if he tutors his two beautiful classmates to help them get into the schools of their choice. Ogata may be a science genius and Furuhashi a literature prodigy — but Ogata is aiming for a liberal arts school and Furuhashi is aiming for a science school. And they're both clueless outside their fields of expertise.

Japan Box Office: Self-Deprecating Local Comedy Tonde Saitama Beats Long-Awaited Alita

City Hunter and Code Geass still stay in the top 10

>A low-budget film based on a self-deprecating local comedy manga from the 1980s played an equal box office battle against a 200 million dollar budget Hollywood film also based on a manga from the 1990s.

>The live-action film adaptation of Mineo Maya (Patarillo!)'s manga Tonde Saitama, helmed by renowned comedy director Hedeki Takeuchi (Thermae Romae series), was released in 318 theaters across Japan on February 22, and earned a surprisingly good 259 million yen on 191,000 admissions in its first Saturday and Sunday, and became the top-grossing film of the weekend of February 23-24. The film ranked No.1 in Pia's first day satisfaction ranking with a 93.5% approval rating.

>The prefecture that attracted the most audience in Japan was, of course, Saitama, which put the film on 23 screens. The film's three-day gross was 330,949,400 yen with 247,968 admissions, and it is expected to earn around 1.5 billion yen by the end of its run in Japan.

>Very close second was Alita: Battle Angel, the long-awaited live-action film based on Yukito Kishiro's cyberpunk manga in the 1990s, Gunnm. The Robert Rodriguez (Spy Kids, Sin City)-directed adaptation was released in 358 theaters last Friday, 40 more than Tonde Saitama had, and made 248 million yen on 152,000 admissions in its first Saturday and Sunday, which was a bit below expectations. Its first three-day total was 342.66 million yen, and 59.9% of it was made from the premium format screenings including IMAX, 3D, and MX4D.

>Meanwhile, both City Hunter The Movie: Shinjuku Private Eyes and Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection still ranked in top 10 in their third weekend. The former ranked eighth and its total gross finally reached the one billion yen mark, and the latter was on tenth with 700 million yen.

One Piece Creator “It’s OK To Lewd My Characters!”

>The creator of One Piece has given fans permission to sexualize his characters, so long as they are reading the manga.

>One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda has said that fans are welcome to see his characters in an erotic light, adding that a true professional would never “get preachy” and tell his fans how to enjoy the manga.

>Oda received a letter from a fan enamored of buxom redhead Nami, asking whether he was bothered by fans lewding his creations. The exchange proceeded as follows:

Fan:

Nami in the New World part of the story is so completely my type. I just love her. I have so much fun buying the Blu-rays she appears in, plus figures and other merch of her, and hope for more featuring her in the future. As an author, though, I wonder if maybe you’re not very happy about this?

Oda:

So are you saying you feel guilty for looking at one of my characters in an erotic way (LOL)?

This goes for all of my characters, but I don’t have any problems at all with people doing that. My mentor taught me that ‘The World of Manga’ is a product, and if you start getting all preachy after people were kind enough to buy your stuff, it shows that you’re not a professional.

I feel the same way. Enjoy my work however you like, with whatever interpretations or fantasies you want. As long as you’re reading my manga, I’m happy.

>Coffee, crows, and compromising positions are all in day's work in the new teaser trailer for Joshi Kausei, an upcoming short-form TV anime adaptation based on the dialog-free manga by Ken Wakai about the inspired and sometimes unusual daily lives of a trio of high school girls.

>The original Joshi Kausei manga is serialized in Futabasha's Web Comic Action digital manga magazine, and an English language version is also available from Crunchyroll Manga, who describe the story as follows:

>Who needs dialog when you're this cute? The beautiful (but unlucky) Momoko, the cool, collected Shibumi, and the refreshingly innocent Mayumi star in a "silent manga." No speeches, no dialog! Just pictures, sound effects, and three high school girls living their daily lives.

Cop Craft Anime Reveals Teaser Video

>Kenjiro Tsuda, Mayu Yoshioka star in Millepensee's buddy police anime

>The official website for Cop Craft, the television anime of Shoji Gatoh's Cop Craft Dragnet Mirage Reloaded light novel series, began streaming a teaser video for the anime on Saturday.

>The anime will premiere this summer.

>The anime stars:

Kenjiro Tsuda as Kei Matoba

Mayu Yoshioka as Tirana Exedirika

Shin Itagaki (2016 Berserk, Teekyū) is directing the anime at Millepensee, and Gatoh himself is in charge of the series scripts. Hiromi Kimura is adapting Range Murata's original character designs for animation.

>The story is set in San Teresa City on the fictional Pacific island of Kariaena. The "buddy police action" series follows the detective Kei Matoba and the alternate-world knight Tirana.

>15 years ago, an unknown hyperspace gate opened over the Pacific. Beyond this gate lies Reto Semaani, a strange alternate world where fairies and demons live.

>San Teresa City — a city where over two million immigrants live from both worlds. As a result, there are the haves and the have-nots. Here is the world's newest "city of dreams." But in the shadow of the chaos, crime is rampant: drugs, prostitution, and weapon trafficking. The detectives who stand up to these heinous crimes are in the San Teresa City Police. When the detective Kei Matoba and the alternate-world knight Tirana — two individuals who differ in gender, personality, and even world of origin — meet, an incident erupts. Two worlds. Two justices. From this, the curtain rises on a buddy police action story!

>Range Murata (Last Exile, Blue Submarine No. 6) illustrates the light novel series, which Shogakukan's Gagaga Bunko imprint started publishing in November 2009. The seventh volume will ship in early summer.

>Other stories by Gatoh that have inspired anime include Full Metal Panic! and Amagi Brilliant Park.

Mob Psycho 100 Gets All-New OVA Planned by ONE

>Bones again animates OVA premiering at event on July 7

>The official website for the anime adaptations of ONE's Mob Psycho 100 manga announced on Monday that the franchise is getting a completely new original video anime (OVA). ONE is providing the original concept for the anime. (Note: The announcement confirmed that the OVA announcement is not an April Fool's Day joke.)

>Yuzuru Tachikawa is returning to direct the anime at Bones.

>The OVA will get an advance screening at "Mob Psycho 100 II Psycho Helmet-kyō no Tsudoi Special Event Natsu" (tentative title) on July 7. The Mob Psycho 100 II anime's first and second home video volumes, which ship on April 3 and 24, respectively, will bundle forms to enter advance tickets lotteries for the event. Mob Psycho 100 II cast members such as Setsuo Ito, Takahiro Sakurai, and Takanori Hoshino, as well as theme song performers sajou no hana will appear at the event.

>The anime's first season premiered in Japan in July 2016, and the second season premiered this past January. Crunchyroll streamed both series as they aired in Japan. Funimation streamed English dubs for the anime and released the first series on home video. The first series joined Adult Swim's Toonami programming block in October. The Mob Psycho 100 REIGEN: The Miraculous Unknown Psychic event anime debuted in March 2018, and Crunchyroll streamed it.

>Funimation describes the story:

>Kageyama Shigeo (a.k.a. Mob) is an 8th grader with powerful psychic abilities. Workingunder his not-so-capable master, Reigen, Mob uses his powers to exorcise evil spirits. But his will to be normal causes him to suppress his powers and feelings until he hits 100 percent — a point where his pent-up emotions are unleashed and a darker power takes over.

Tachikawa and Ito will also attend this year's Crunchyroll Expo event. Crunchyroll Expo will take place at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center in California from August 30 through September 1.

Anime Limited will release a Blu-ray edition of the film K: Return of Kings.

>The official website for K: Return of Kings described the story of the new anime season:

In modern Japan, where history has strangely overlapped with reality. There, seven "Kings" with great superpowers existed. Along with their clansman to whom they shared their own power with, the kings each formed clans. Order bound by blue, red flames that cause chaos, irregularities that shine in white, and reforms branched off into green. The Kings, each with their own abilities, now...

The Blue King Reisi Munakata, the leader of the Blue Clan "Scepter 4," held great responsibilities on his back. The tower that Gold King Daikaku Kokujōji supervised called the Dresden Slate was still on his mind, and he felt a great burden by killing the previous Red King, Mikoto Suoh.

On the other hand, the former Red Clan "Homra" clansman Anna Kushina experienced the attacks from the Green Clan "jungle" and awakened as the next Red King. By doing this, she bound her comrades through a strong bond once again.

Finally, White Clan members Neko and Kuroh believe that the White King Yashiro is still alive, and seek his whereabouts. However, it was not just them searching for the White King. The Green King Nagare Hisui once again...

With "jungle" once again jumping back into action, the fates of the various Kings are brought together.

>Shingo Suzuki served as the director and character designer for the new season at studio GoHands. Suzuki previously directed the first season and the K: Missing Kings sequel film. Yui Horie performed "Asymmetry" as the anime's opening theme, and CustomiZ performed "Kai" (Solution) as the ending theme.

>Tenjin duo work on manga adaptation of original anime

>Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ app began publishing a manga adaptation of director Tsutomu Mizushima and scriptwriter Michiko Yokote's original television anime project Kōya no Kotobuki Hikōtai (The Magnificent KOTOBUKI) on Wednesday. >Funimation to screen film by Afro Samurai's Fuminori Kizaki this fall

>Toho Animation began streaming a clip on Friday for the Human Lost 3D CG anime film. The video highlights Yozo Oba, the film's protagonist, played by Mamoru Miyano.

>The "new sci-fi, cyberpunk film project" is an adaptation of Osamu Dazai's No Longer Human novel. Funimation will screen the film in theaters in the United States this fall. The film is listed with a 2019 worldwide release. The film will screen out of competition at this year's Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June.

Yozo Oba isn't the richest. Troubled by strange dreams, he flippantly joins his friend's biker gang on an ill-fated incursion to “The Inside”, where society's elite lives. This instigates a journey of terrifying discovery that will change Yozo's life forever.

Katsuyuki Motohiro (FLCL Alternative, Psycho-Pass) is serving as executive director. Fuminori Kizaki (Afro Samurai) is directing the film at Polygon Pictures. Tow Ubukata (Fafner, Psycho-Pass 2) is writing the scripts. MAGNET and SlowCurve are credited with planning, and TOHO Visual Entertainment is distributing the film in Japan.

>Dazai's original Ningen Shikkaku novel follows a young man's deepening alienation from the rest of the world, despite his attempts to maintain a cheery facade.

Dropkick on My Devil! Anime's 2nd Season Premieres in 2020

>The official website for the anime based on Yukiwo's Dropkick on My Devil! (Jashin-chan Dropkick) manga revealed on Monday that the anime will have a free mini exhibition at the Marui department stores in Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka in June through August. In the announcement, the post stated that the anime's second season is planned to premiere in 2020.

>The original comedy manga by Yukiwo centers on Yurine Hanazono, a college student who summons Jashin-chan, a demon from the underworld. Now they must live together in a run-down apartment in Tokyo's Jinbōchō district. If Yurine dies, Jashin-chan gets to go back to the underworld, so she constantly plots to kill Yurine.

>The first anime season premiered in July 2018. The anime is streaming exclusively on Amazon Prime Video inside and outside of Japan. Amazon Prime Video premiered the final bonus episode on October 1.

>Yukiwo launched the manga in Flex Comix's web magazine Comic Meteor in April 2012, and the series is ongoing.

‘Serial Experiments Lain’ is Going Open Source

https://www.otaquest.com/serial-experiments-lain-open-source/

20 years may have passed since the premiere of the seminal Serial Experiments Lain, but fans haven’t stopped loving Lain – not one bit, especially as the series only gets more and more relevant in today’s world. Faced with such fan support, NBC Universal has taken the unprecedented decision to hand over their intellectual property almost entirely to fans – making Social Experiments Lain, as they describe it, ‘open source’ under the moniker Time To Live.

Such a decision comes, more concretely, from the massive success of various events held to celebrate the series’ 20th anniversary, such as the Club Cyberia fan event as well as the CHAOS MARKET pop-up.

Let us all love Lain!

Kadokawa Reveals Maesetsu! Original Anime With Lucky Star Creator Kagami Yoshimizu

>Yoshimizu draws 4-panel manga for project

>The August issue of Kadokawa's Comptiq magazine revealed on Wednesday that Kadokawa is producing a new original anime titled Maesetsu! The project involves scriptwriter Shōta Gotō as a main staff member, and the members of the Freak! otaku-based comedy duo as cast members. Lucky Star manga author Kagami Yoshimizu is drawing a four-panel manga for the project, and also drew the below visual for the project.

>The project will center on four girls at the height of their youth, attempting to achieve their dreams even as they struggle gallantly.

>Yoshimizu put his Lucky Star manga on hiatus in 2014 due to a "new project" that was then under planning. Until then, the manga had been running in Comptiq since the magazine's January 2004 issue. Kadokawa has so far published 10 volumes for the manga.

>Kyoto Animation produced a 2007 television anime adaptation and original video anime (OVA) for the manga. It also inspired the 2013's Miyakawa-ke no Kūfuku spinoff anime. Bandai Entertainment released part of the original Lucky Star manga, the television series, and the OVA in North America. Funimation later licensed and re-released the anime.

>A man who ran an illegal online manga comic library read by around 100 million people each month has been arrested in Manila, Philippine authorities said Tuesday.

>Romi Hoshino, 28, managed "Manga Mura" (Manga village), which shut down on its own in April last year as Japan launched a manhunt for the website's founder for massive violation of copyright.

>About 100 million people each month used the popular pirate website, which made around 60,000 manga -- Japanese graphic novels or comics -- available to the public for free immediately after publication.

>Manga publishers lost about 320 billion yen ($2.94 billion) in potential revenues over a six-month period to February 2018 alone, Japan's Content Overseas Distribution Association said.

>"It's an enormous amount and Manga Mura was a very big issue for manga editors," an official from the anti-piracy group told AFP.

>"The Japanese government created a task force just to take measures against Manga Mura," the association official added.

>Hoshino, who holds a Japanese passport, was arrested on Sunday at Manila airport after the Japanese embassy in Manila sought help in locating him, immigration commissioner Jaime Morente said in a statement, describing him as the Manga Mura manager.

"His presence in the country is a risk to public safety and security," and will likely be deported to Japan, Morente said.

Publishers claimed they lost billions in potential sales because of the Manga Mura website

I probably would have never ended up watching anime if the only way to do so would have been through legal methods and I'm sure that goes for a lot of people. If you can consume media for free, then you don't mind as much wasting your time on watching a few episodes/reading a few volumes to figure out if you'll like the whole thing or not. Neil Gaiman once claimed he stopped worrying about Piracy, when he realises the people who pirated his work the most were also buying it the most.

If your product is at all good piracy can be amazingly effective marketing.

I'm currently in the process of collecting physical copies of a lot of things I would never have known about if not for piracy. I imagine it's the same for a lot of you.

The real drawback that companies hate is that in a world of try before you buy, people will generally only cough up money for things that are actually good.

>The real drawback that companies hate is that in a world of try before you buy, people will generally only cough up money for things that are actually good.

That is true. In a world without piracy, people will simply buy whatever is popular/mainstream because those are the only products they have heard other people's opinions on and is sometimes the only option available. There's no way you're going to spend the extra cash on a somewhat obscure IP if you can't know beforehand if it's good or not. Those anime magazines aren't exactly good resources either because they only talk about the newest series and are often in cahoots with western licensors to only promote whatever they expect to get the most sales.

So you could say that really big companies who produce media that no one with common sense would want to spend money on if they had alternatives, like the ones in Hollywood, do get hurt by piracy. But that's only because people are allowed to have a choice thanks to piracy whereas in a world without it, you only get to have one flavor so to speak.

Youtube streaming did pretty much kill Telltale, but they also made a lot of shitty games, and after a point people decided they'd rather watch them on Youtube than actually play them. You have to put some blame on them as a company, after a certain some point.

Well, you can't expect people to pay for games when there isn't any real gameplay after all. I never saw the point in playing visual novels for that same reason.

Telltale sudoku'd through pure retardation. They put out a trillion "games" on the same engine, where the only gameplay was QTEs, and with generic stories sold on choice-based systems that didn't provide actual choice.

If a single one of these variables had been different, they'd probably still exist.

Any Fighting Fantasy book has a thousand times more choice than Telltale shit. And it's better written to boot.

If they're anything like Aussie's Police Media Team, their 'Community Outreach' in `date +%Y` is posting normieshit on Facebook.
