‘Serial Experiments Lain’ is Going Open Source

https://www.otaquest.com/serial-experiments-lain-open-source/

20 years may have passed since the premiere of the seminal Serial Experiments Lain, but fans haven’t stopped loving Lain – not one bit, especially as the series only gets more and more relevant in today’s world. Faced with such fan support, NBC Universal has taken the unprecedented decision to hand over their intellectual property almost entirely to fans – making Social Experiments Lain, as they describe it, ‘open source’ under the moniker Time To Live.

Such a decision comes, more concretely, from the massive success of various events held to celebrate the series’ 20th anniversary, such as the Club Cyberia fan event as well as the CHAOS MARKET pop-up.

Let us all love Lain!

'Rike ga Koi ni Ochita no de Shoumei shitemita' or 'Science has fallen in love, so we tried to prove it' gets an anime adaptation 2020

>Yukimura Shinya and Himuro Ayame are two scientists that want to find out if love can be solved by a scientific theory. These two scientists also have feelings for each other and want to be able to solve their feelings through similar theoretical facts. With this perfect opportunity, these scientists will attempt to solve the theory of the love they express for each other.

>An experimental-sciences love comedy with laughs and kyun kyun with the laboratory where individual researchers come together as a stage.

The first two chapters of the manga were shit, the humor is similar to the Big Bang theory.

Kadokawa Reveals Maesetsu! Original Anime With Lucky Star Creator Kagami Yoshimizu

>Yoshimizu draws 4-panel manga for project

>The August issue of Kadokawa's Comptiq magazine revealed on Wednesday that Kadokawa is producing a new original anime titled Maesetsu! The project involves scriptwriter Shōta Gotō as a main staff member, and the members of the Freak! otaku-based comedy duo as cast members. Lucky Star manga author Kagami Yoshimizu is drawing a four-panel manga for the project, and also drew the below visual for the project.

>The project will center on four girls at the height of their youth, attempting to achieve their dreams even as they struggle gallantly.

>Yoshimizu put his Lucky Star manga on hiatus in 2014 due to a "new project" that was then under planning. Until then, the manga had been running in Comptiq since the magazine's January 2004 issue. Kadokawa has so far published 10 volumes for the manga.

>Kyoto Animation produced a 2007 television anime adaptation and original video anime (OVA) for the manga. It also inspired the 2013's Miyakawa-ke no Kūfuku spinoff anime. Bandai Entertainment released part of the original Lucky Star manga, the television series, and the OVA in North America. Funimation later licensed and re-released the anime.

>A man who ran an illegal online manga comic library read by around 100 million people each month has been arrested in Manila, Philippine authorities said Tuesday.

>Romi Hoshino, 28, managed "Manga Mura" (Manga village), which shut down on its own in April last year as Japan launched a manhunt for the website's founder for massive violation of copyright.

>About 100 million people each month used the popular pirate website, which made around 60,000 manga -- Japanese graphic novels or comics -- available to the public for free immediately after publication.

>Manga publishers lost about 320 billion yen ($2.94 billion) in potential revenues over a six-month period to February 2018 alone, Japan's Content Overseas Distribution Association said.

>"It's an enormous amount and Manga Mura was a very big issue for manga editors," an official from the anti-piracy group told AFP.

>"The Japanese government created a task force just to take measures against Manga Mura," the association official added.

>Hoshino, who holds a Japanese passport, was arrested on Sunday at Manila airport after the Japanese embassy in Manila sought help in locating him, immigration commissioner Jaime Morente said in a statement, describing him as the Manga Mura manager.

"His presence in the country is a risk to public safety and security," and will likely be deported to Japan, Morente said.

Publishers claimed they lost billions in potential sales because of the Manga Mura website

Well you see if filthy pirates had no alternative then they'd be forced to buy their products. That's their reasoning. They just take every download / visit and extrapolate it to equal one lost sale even though you already know that's bullshit. Most people who read this shit for free is because they're cheapskates already, otherwise they'd already be buying it. I wouldn't be surprised it would be as low as 10% of people would end up being actual customers if there was no alternative.

Disgusting. So this is supposed to be the future of anime? They should at least use good CG like in the Gantz movie instead of the type of animation that looks like it came straight from a videogame.

>>110361

I probably would have never ended up watching anime if the only way to do so would have been through legal methods and I'm sure that goes for a lot of people. If you can consume media for free, then you don't mind as much wasting your time on watching a few episodes/reading a few volumes to figure out if you'll like the whole thing or not. But when you have to pay to do so, it just wouldn't seem worth it to most people.

Neil Gaiman once claimed he stopped worrying about Piracy, when he realises the people who pirated his work the most were also buying it the most.

If your product is at all good piracy can be amazingly effective marketing.

I'm currently in the process of collecting physical copies of a lot of things I would never have known about if not for piracy. I imagine it's the same for a lot of you.

The real drawback that companies hate is that in a world of try before you buy, people will generally only cough up money for things that are actually good.

 No.111218

>>111211

>The real drawback that companies hate is that in a world of try before you buy, people will generally only cough up money for things that are actually good.

That is true. In a world without piracy, people will simply buy whatever is popular/mainstream because those are the only products they have heard other people's opinions on and is sometimes the only option available. There's no way you're going to spend the extra cash on a somewhat obscure IP if you can't know beforehand if it's good or not. Those anime magazines aren't exactly good resources either because they only talk about the newest series and are often in cahoots with western licensors to only promote whatever they expect to get the most sales.

So you could say that really big companies who produce media that no one with common sense would want to spend money on if they had alternatives, like the ones in Hollywood, do get hurt by piracy. But that's only because people are allowed to have a choice thanks to piracy whereas in a world without it, you only get to have one flavor so to speak.

Telltale sudoku'd through pure retardation. They put out a trillion "games" on the same engine, where the only gameplay was QTEs, and with generic stories sold on choice-based systems that didn't provide actual choice.

If a single one of these variables had been different, they'd probably still exist.

Any Fighting Fantasy book has a thousand times more choice than Telltale shit. And it's better written to boot.
